I know this video is years old, but if I may just add another park to check out in Texas for those viewers watching this video; Dinosaur Valley State Park on the DFW side of the state. It is so nice! You can hike amongst actual dinosaur footprints embedded in the rocky river bed. The camping is nice, but somewhat close together. And, the little town nearby is super cute! Happy travels :)

Best line: "Grown Adults Weeping". Never gets old watching you make coffee while I enjoy mine. OBOS Shoes: Love mine, wear them daily and have the same problem with the soles as you are having. I think it is problem with the width of the sole platform as it rubs on the other shoe inadvertently more than most shoes, sadly I can't find a more comfortable shoe. Most folks don't wear hiking shoes daily like you and I do and you are out in the wilds more than I am. Safe travels!

Chris - try frying/sautéing mushrooms, onions, peppers and/or zucchini and add those to your Prego. Buy some shredded parmasen to garnish the top. You can fry up ground sausage or beef to add. It won’t be as boring.

Awesome episode, Chris! Thanks for sharing. It was really fun to see you camp at and explore around areas where I spent a lot of my childhood and adolescence camping with family and Boy Scouts. I've camped at that primitive camping site in Mineral Wells State Park a couple of times and have fond memories from those experiences. It is such a peaceful and relaxing area! If you find yourself looking for more awesome state parks to camp at in East Texas, I highly recommend either Tyler State Park or Caddo Lake State Park.

In Atlanta Texas there is a small park called Jackson Creek that is free primitive camping. It has a boat ramp and toilets. Also in Atlanta Texas up the road from Jackson Creek a few miles is Atlanta State park. Friendly staff and clean . Pretty park with a few short trails . Both these areas are on Wright Patman Lake West of Texarkana a few miles. Don't know if you will come through this way but thought I would post the info.

Do you realize that you are also in the largest oak forest in the world there in Monahans State Park? Yea, it is amazing! They are called scrub oak and get no more than a few feet high. They have oak leaves and acorns as well. They run from West Texas all the way up the Texas NM border into the panhandle!

Next time you are having just spaghetti add some crushed red pepper on it (like you put on pizza). It will spice it up a little from the pasta sauce and the crushed pepper is easy to store. Glad your enjoying Texas, just wished we had more open land like out west.

The Keen shoes I like have the same problem as your Obos with the heavy rubber separating from the softer foam on the soles. There is a product called Shoe Goo that will let you stick them back together. I recently bought a 4-pack of 0.18 oz tubes for $6. It took a little over 1 tube to make my repairs. I'm 2 months into the repair and things are holding together great. By the time things come apart again, I think the soles will have worn enough to justify a new pair.

Oh Chris, at least carry some parmesan for the spaghetti!
Are the u-joints not greasable? At least every 10,000 the way you travel, if not every oil change.
I've had great luck with Keen and Merrels for wear. Keens fit me better with their wider toe box.

Instead of a grilled cheese followed by a hotdog: The Hotdog Grilled Cheese. Cut 2 dogs lengthwise and fry/grill to desired char. Layer bread, slice of cheese, 4 hotdog halves, slice of cheese, bread. Cook at a little lower flame than you usually cook a grilled cheese. Serve with your favorite hotdog condiments for dipping.
    Game changer.
