Resonance - Tape Loops & Piano Set - Elliot Joseph

Live tape loop set using a UHER 4000 Report Monitor and a UHER 4400 Report Stereo to help. Minimal editing done to the original sound, but I did have to edit out a clip every 4th measure.

Did you bypass the erase head? If so, what method?

I actually didn't bypass the erase head in this take. There is a very slight clip in the tape where you can hear it loop over. In the future I probably would put some masking tape over the erase head to prevent any clicks in the playback but I've not tested this method yet.

I've tried to do this with my uher and the tape doesn't move. Any tips? The reel is spinning.

There normally has to be some kind of tension on the tape for the capstan to pinch it. I used the other tape recorder just for this while the one playing is actually moving the tape. It's not necessarily the reel that is moving it, it's the capstan. hope this helps!
