- Rick Marshall is the patriarch, an incredibly protective and devoted father to Will and Holly. He was a forest ranger and led with messages of unity and taking the necessary precautions. And when Rick fell through a time doorway and exited the program after Season 2, the show suffered.
One of Milligan’s first roles was in the 1973 Woody ALlen film, Sleeper. But everyone knows him from Land of the Lost. The reason behind his departure. Of course it was money. All kinds of show branded merchandise was being sold, including lunch boxes and compasses, you name it. And Milligan thought it was only fair that they see some of that yield.
We later saw Milligan in 4 episodes of the Jack Klugman-led show, Quincy M.E. in the early 80s. ] But his career never really left that pre-historic wonderland.

What do you remember about the show? 🤔
I loved Chaka. Every week this came out I was always concerned that they weren’t gonna get out of it but somehow they did. LOL
I liked those lizard thingies.
Due to my age, I seem to remember the 1991 version. I did like that.
@@dustinmiller1591 For me it was the original.
As a kid I got so anxious when Grumpy was heading towards the cave or in the background .
Such a great show , I still watch it from time to time on DVD. Such an original concept, though not fully explained what the land was .
Saturday and a bowl of cereal, best of times.
Best of times is right,as the old song put it best:Those Were The Days my Friend
Space Food Sticks as well.
Had to be Cap'n Crunch.
Amen
@@notnek202 Quisp and Quake as well.
Back when Hanna Barbera and Sid and Marty Krofft made our childhood beutiful.
Right they did, those were the best days
Sadly now children's lives aren't that beautiful now :( bring back Saturday morning cartoons.
Yeah, not anymore, where did the time go
I agree.
Don’t forget Filmation
I was so mesmerized by this show as a child.
Something about the portals, the crystal thing, and the idea of a lost world that hadn't been discovered by researchers or oil companies (like in the 1977 "King Kong") made this show really cool when I was at other houses with television back in the day.
So was i,the special effects were really great just like the Ray Harryhousen movies.i had a crush on the girl on the show and the guy that played the caveboy,he was good
Im a dinosaur/monster fanatic, that's what got me into sci-fi movies.Godzilla is the best monster of all time and I'm a big fan of dragons and I have a drawing of a dragon from the ren fest that we have here every year in NC
Not just the live shows but the cartoons as well then they started putting junk on
My fave too
Sleestaks scared the hell out of me as a 7 year old boy. Lol
Me too, Jeremy! We must band together to exterminate these evil Reptilians!!! Haha.
Yep!
Hey man i thought I was the was the only one scared of them sleestaks they still scare me
@@kevenwoods3207 HEY KEVEN, LOOK BEHIND YOU!!! TWO SLEESTACKS ARE SNEAKING UP ON YOU!!!
You too lol looking back i don't know why lol a baby could crawl faster than them lol
When the open casting call went out, Kathy's mom dressed her in the pig tails, red plaid shirt and jeans for the interview. As hopefuls were eliminated, Kathy's mom kept her dressed the exact same way for all follow up interviews thinking this was the best way for the show's producers to remember Kathy. When Kathy got the part, the producers kept her in her interview look for the show too.
Pretty sharp thinkin!
She reminds me of Heather O'Rourke, from the original Poltergeist movies and Happy Days.
Take a good look at kathy now...I think she is MALE
@@joannelson9571 I can tell you are
@@joannelson9571 A lot of them are not what they seem. I wonder about this one too.
I'm 57, and I still have that childhood crush on Kathy Coleman. Watched every episode just to see her!
Ditto.
Same age same crush
@@daveweller9579 It's a bit sad how many boys had a crush on Kathy, only for her to go through two abusive marriages....
@@williamwelch7 She hit the bottle or drugs...looks beat for 59.
@@mikeblaz As a child star in Hollywood, she was probably abused, followed by 2 abusive marriages.... She still has a really great smile and a spark in her eyes. A lot of people get worn down by 59. Give her some credit for soldiering on. May you be less beat by that age....
I watched this show every Saturday morning.
I still watch the show.
Me too!
Wouldn’t miss it for the world.
Proud to say that I saw the original series during its first run. I, too, was a fan of pig tails and cords!
I love pigtails too.
I own the complete series of the original. Love it.
Pigtails known as handlebars
Saturday morning cartoons made kids feel SPECIAL, like they MATTERED enough for adults to program a whole morning just for them. They should do this again, maybe we would feel we MATTER again.
Now its nothing but news on the main channels
Yes Saturday morning toons definitely need a comeback kids r missing out!
And you had to change the channels with a knob
This show was amazing.
It had concepts involving extra dimensions, time travel, the insides of buildings being bigger than the outsides (the Pylons), aliens made of light, and so much more. Sid and Marty Krofft really outdid themselves. This was so different than their usual simplistic shows (Sigmund and the Sea Monsters, H. R. Puffinstuff, The Buggaloos, etc). I loved Land of the Lost for being the most imaginative children's show ever. Ever... :)
Amen to that. 60s baby here and I still prefer the older TV shows
One of my favorite episodes was when Holly met her future self. I was only a little girl but that scene brought me to tears.
Land of the Lost and Shazam, were my two favorite Saturday morning shows in the mid 70's! Giant bowl of sugar filled cereal or Pop Tarts. Miss those days! Thanks for sharing and uploading!
I tease (torture 😏) my boys with clips from H.R. Pufnstuf! They are creeped out by it! They mostly hate the theme song!
@@reneepopp1395 New Zoo Review with Doug and Emmie Joe, Freddie, Charlie and Henrietta. 😀
Saturdays mornings in the mid 70s = Pink Panther, Waldo Kitty & at noon, ballet class 🥰
Shazam was cool but I always wanted Captain Marvel to fight a super villain or monster instead of just normal bad guys.
And Tang! Don't forget the Tang!
I grew up watching Land of the Lost... Another classic by the Kroftt Bros.... It was so retro.... Love from Melbourne Australia
Hey,I have a friend that lives in your neck of the woods(so to speak)He's American, married to a part Greek/Aussie girl and I know his mother, she lives an hour from where I live
I remember watching this show and loved it. Good memories and they made good shows for us kids from the 70s.
I watch episodes on UA-cam occasionally to relax. Still a great show. I was in Kindergarten when it came out and still watch in 2023.
When Saturday morning cartoons were really good. Can't forget this one as it was one of the best. God I miss the 70s and being a kid
R.I.P. Spencer Milligan. You gave my childhood many good memories.
I went to Jr High with Cathy Coleman, in Simi Valley and lived a few streets away!
I was in my mid- to late teens when the original show was on TV. I feel goofy admitting it, but I really liked the show a lot.
I loved the show as a kid,but was scared to death by the Sleestascks. I usually closed my eyes when they came on,Haha!!
I was scared of them too! I really wanted to watch the show, but as soon as the Sleestacks came on I would run to the TV and change the channel! Lol! I should have just closed my eyes like you. I could have watched it till the end.😁
@@anabetancourt9316 LOL,thats funny. They were terrifying!!Glad to know I wasn't the only one.
They reminded me of the creature from the Black Lagoon.
Same here, and the whistling wind sounds they made, all the more terrifying.
@@JERRYR708 I agree🙂
To Wesley Eure , as a child and growing up watching this show , I only hoped to grow up and be as cool as you. I dont one F--- who you spend your life with, only that you inspired kids like me to be adventurous , brave and forthright.
Dude!!! I loved this show when I was a kid!!
ME TOO!!!
Me too.
ME 4!!!
Me too........😊
Linda Laurie wrote the theme song, RIP..She was a friend of our family..
I had forgotten about this long lost show from my childhood. Thank you for bringing back the memories. Yes, it was a favorite. Watching this show on the big box console TV, sitting on the shag carpet eating some sort of surgery cereal, 😔miss the simplicity of the 70s. Good times.
I just found LAND OF THE LOST seasons 1 2 & 3 for $2.98.😍 I am watching it now. I use to watch it when I was a child. Sid & Marry Kroft were geniuses. Sigmund and the sea monsters, lidsville, The Kroft Supershow🤗
I was 8 when the LOTL debuted. A favorite of mine. Saturday morning children's TV in the 70's was at it's best.
My favorite show
What a great trip down Memory Lane. As an adolescent, this was one of my favorites.
Loved Land of the Lost. Wish they would bring it back as a Prime Time Show.
I sure do have some great memories of watching Land of the Lost when I was a little kid! The Sleestack were the subject of many of my young nightmares...
I bought the WHOLE series on DVD. Spent days watching them all. One of my favorite shows watched as a child.
I was 10 yrs old when this show began and watched it every Sat morning.
No
@@ijustdidahugeshit 😏🖕
@@notnek202 You look like your mom
@@ijustdidahugeshit thank you but that’s my grandmother not my mom in the pic.
Yes I loved this show growing up. Was pretty awesome.
Every Saturday Morning Me And My Late Sister Would Watch This We Loved This Show Brings Back Great Memories
Ohh the good memories of this show and a few other toons every Saturday morning.
Great trip down memory lane!
I loved this show as a child! This brought back many memories 😅
I used to love my Saturday television growing up Land of the Lost and Creature Double Feature were the best, great memories.
This one is one of the best shows that has ever been on TV😀
When I was a young child many many moons ago lol… I loved the Slee stacks I know that it’s just a cheap costume but then things were so scary when I was little. You can get this on Netflix all seasons
I think it's Sleestaks but the one in the silver costume was really great but the family never did escape the valley but the father did and was replaced by the uncle
@@garycarpenter2980 oh yes I forgot about the uncle,, I get a vacation so I’m going to binge watch from season 1! Ooops thank you stay safe
You too lady
I was scared of Sleaze Stacks too and the hiss sounds they made exploring their tunnels.
@@JERRYR708 thank you 🙏🏻
Wow looking at this is really bringing back a lot of good memories of my childhood from the 70s I remember this show like the back of my hand wow oh man I wish I could go back I miss that era
This was definitely one of my favorite shows growing up.
I can remember catching reruns of this show on Saturday mornings when I was a child….back when magic was not impossible and my whole life was a blank canvas yet to be painted.
Let's do "Great Space Coaster" next!
I watched it every Saturday morning...I was one of those young fans crushin' on Holly...I did enjoy the Will Ferrell movie, in spite of them mixing the roles up just a little...it's fun...
I loved this show when I was a kid. A steppingstone to sci-fi tv of its time. I’d love to see a remake with today’s technology. That would be cool.
Yes I think it would with the original cast as cameos and this time they can escape the valley
As long as Will Ferrel and Danny McBride aren't in it I would love to see it too
That idiot WF is no actor or a comedian,he's as about tasteless as JS in a horror movie
Thanks for the update!
Hey!....Even when i was a child watching the show, always knew 'Wesley' was a real 'Queen'!....
Hahahaha!!!!!
A few years ago they had Land of the Lost on again, and it was on Saturday morning. I watched them all over again until the very end! It brought back many memories of being a kid. I was about Hollies age when it first came out!
The show was so unusual, It had everything a science fiction show should have. I still watch it a 73 year old kid I am.
I still call anyone who wears huge sunglasses ‘Sleestak eyes’. 😆
I was 24 when the show first aired. Watched every episode. Loved it and still do.
Great episode!
Great video! So many fond childhood memories
Loved watching this show as a teen. Bought the complete series & my grandson is crazy bout it.
Quincy was one of my all time fave shows from the seventies.
For one Halloween I had a Sleestack costume. Good times.
Lucky duck
We used to watch the original tv show back in the 70's. Then, I purchased them on vcr tape in the late 90's. Our children, born in 96 and 98, watched the originals and grew to love the quirky family.
To be honest, I never watched an episode, but after this take I think I just might do it. THX!
I never missed LOTL but back then we never had ABC and they had a lot of great shows I missed.
Believe me you'll love it.....i did
Haha you wont regret it... still just as good as it was in 1974♡
Loved loved this clip and history. Watched it Saturday’s after my Jr. Bowling league and had a crush on Will. Now I know he’s “family” I love it! Thank you 🙏🏻
OMG what a treat this video was! I still remember the title song of this show! I never missed it! On a not as sunny note -- I was so sorry to hear about Wesley Eure's troubles, in particular his damned cruel and unfair treatment by NBC, but I am happy for him that he made it through to live a good life of good works.
Great Show!
Loved this show. The Sleestak, Enoch, The pylons…. All of it was fascinating. 👍🏻👍🏻🙏🏼
I have to admit i was fascinated by this program and i was a grown-up.
Omg this classic show brings back memories!😌
Not on toilet
I remember watching this show and loving it when I was young but I honestly can't remember any episodes of it now. Guess I'm getting older ;)
I loved watching this when I was young.
it was the best series ever! it was my favorite Saturday morning program.
I watched this show back in the 70s and I was 17 or 18 when it aired !
I absolutely loved and watched Land of the Lost and totally loved the movie with Will Ferrell. There really should be another movie Please Sid and Marty Kroft
Thank you for the follow up of all the actors. I used to watch the Land of the Lost when I was a kid fell in love with it.
Loved this show!!!
Awesome show indeed. Man, life seemed so simple when I was 5.
I loved that show as a kid! Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
Hard to believe Holly never acted again. Any show she was on after that I definitely would have watched!
I grew up watching Land of the lost & lots others i was a little kid in the 70s..Every house was watching alot of the same that came on then . Miss them days🏠🏡🌄
Yes, I remember very well thank you for the great memories my childhood 💛💚💙
Wow remember this show. Loved it.
I remember being amazed at a TALKING Sleestak leader, who actually had reason, and helped the hapless adventurers...
Enik; played by Walker Edmiston, odd he isn't mentioned in the video...
I think there another Sleestak who talked other than Enik.
I loved it!
I watched this as a kid. Bought the DVD box set and both of my kids watched them continually. We all loved the movie.
Bill Laimbeer....right on....didn't know that.....and I'm a pistons fan and watched land of the lost all the time at the age of 11 and 12 !!!!
I loved this show... Never missed it!
Nostalgic Nick, I agree with Spencer Milligan.
I loved this show as a kid!!
I was 10 at the time and remember watching this every Saturday.
I watched all of it and loved it.
Thanks!
Marshal, Will and Hollie on a routine expedition..... this was my favorite show back in 1975ish..My mother said I would hold my breath and almost pass out when it would go off.. I loved it then and I love it more now.. Sleestaks=reptilians of inner earth ♡♡♡ have a blessed day all ♡

Wow, I completely forgot about this show, even seeing this evokes strong but vague and spotty memories of it, I must have been so young that it didnt register as a solid memory.
Loved this show so much back then. Good memories:)
A great remembrance of a simpler time!
I used to love this show one of my favorites
My favorite show when I was little!! Loved it!!
I loved watching Land of The Lost with my kids , they are grown now , but those were the best of times .
I loved that show🌺🌺
This was a BIG time MUST see SHOW on TV ...LOVED it! :)
It's. one of the best shows I grew up watching thanks
My dad purchased the rental copies of Land of the Lost from blockbuster in the late 90s, so we could grow up watching them. I called it “Marshall, Will and Holly” lol
