- The 1970's was obsessed with the paranormal - UFO's, Bigfoot, ESP, Parallel Dimensions - you name it! This was perfectly captured by the Sid & Marty Krofft psychedelic children's series The Land of the Lost! Take a deep dive into the freaky 70's!
One of my all time favorites. This show made my little brain think about our universe and reality.
You only see 3 Sleestaks in any camera shot ever on the show. I think they only had 3 costumes and Enik's gold one.
I loved the background music and synthesizer sci-fi sound effects they used on the show. 😃
Glad you acknowledged the Verne, Burroughs and Doyle books as the inspirations for the show
Glad you mentioned In Search Of... That was another 1970s favorite of mine. And all the paranormal dtuff. Do you recall any of the various UFO and related magazines then. UFO Report, Argosy UFO, Ideals' UFO Mag, Beyond Reality, etc. etc.?
This was my favorite show in the early 80s.
I had a crush on Holly Marshall. I can't be the only one, right?
No, you're not the only one. I was 14 at the time and had a crush on her too. I suspect a lot of guys did.
You're not, trust me.
Sid and Marty Krofft were most famous for their children's shows that are more light-hearted, comical, and downright psychedelic. With this show, the Krofft brothers took a more serious approach with Land of the Lost. However, this show was conceived by Alan Foshko and David Gerrold. For a 1970s Saturday morning kids' show, it had a deep lore and a truly intriguing story. It was pretty ambitious for its time. The show is not without its cheese factor, especially the theme song and special effects. But what do you expect? It was the 1970s.
If it ever made it onto UK television, I completely missed it.
It's well worth watching as a prime slice of balls-out psychedelic 70's pop culture! My favorite show as a kid 😀
That's a shame. Check it out regardless.
The best of the Sid & Masrty Kroft shows. (Remember Liddsville? H.R. Puffnstuff?)
Oh yeah, Sigmund and the Seamonsters; forgot that one. 🤣
The sleestak were scary AF when you're 7 years old. Now I'm like... Oh, it's cold out. time to get stabby.
Great video- Land of the Lost is one of my all time favorite shows, I am now watching through it with my grandkids and they really enjoy it. 😀
The story was derived from a true story and the mountains were home to the sleestics that had crystals of energy found in the mountains.
I have all three seasons on DVD. My and my little sister never missed Land Of the LOST on Saturday mornings. Which is when I usually throw in one of the DVDs. The weird light creature trapped in the LotL was my favorite. I think they did two with him. Human emotion was very uncomfortable for the alien.
The Zarn
Excellent video.
Rest in Peace 🙏 🪦 Actor Ron Harper
Whoops. This is not my Land of the Lost. This was my parent's Land of the Lost.
I mistakenly thought this was about the early 90s version.
I can still sing its theme song to this day. :P
To this day, I'm trying to wrap my head around the "Magician" episode. What the hell was that about?
Land of the Lost is light on the sci and heavy on the fi. It is practically sci-fantasy. So much so that it nearly adds another dimension of definition to the phrase "cult classic". 🤔
The God of the Pit approves this episode.
I'm re-watching the series now and it is just enjoyable as when I first watch it.
Land of the Lost did return as a summer replacement filler show on NBC in early 1978 and as a summer replacement filler show in the summers of 1985 for Pryor's Place and again in 1987 on CBS for CBS Storybreak.
The movie version was ruined the second TV series of it in the 90s was good but I prefer the original.
I love these themes
wow i think I want to watch it ! anyone know where i can watch?
Available as a DVD set.
@@BruceCarroll dont own dvd player but no problem found i can stream it youtube
The series turns up on Midnight Pulp channel also. I think the 1990s remake does as well.
My last comment got deleted but 'Tubi' has every episode for free including all of Sid and Marty Krofft shows.
They got nothing on the gods must be crazy ... Clouds nightmare.... 💯
The guy that wrote ringworld did a episode.
Larry Niven.
@@that-70s-nerd one of my favorite books and authors.
@@doug2424 You're gonna *love* this channel: once I've covered all the obvious stuff (for the uninitiated), it's all deep-dives, especially into genre lit!
@@that-70s-nerd cool 😎
Here's some of the authors that wrote for the show, David Gerrold, Harlan Ellison, and Larry niven. Any more you know about?
