Here's what you'll learn in today's video:
First, I'll show you how to make cookie dough like mixture, using 5 healthy ingredients.
Next, you'll see how to use different mix-ins to make these energy balls even more delicious and nutritious.
This recipe uses date paste as a sweetener. The easiest way is to go with the store-bought date paste, but you can make your own date paste in just 5 minutes.
Simply fill the glass jar with the dried pitted dates (the cheap ones), cover with hot water, put the lid on and let it sit for 1 hour.
Then, you'll have to transfer the dates and the water into the blender and blend into a smooth paste. It's that simple!

OATMEAL ENERGY BALLS RECIPE
(Makes 20 balls)
Ingredients:
3 cups quick cooking oats (270g)
1/2 cup peanut butter (125g)
1/2 cup ground flax seed (75g)
1 cup date paste (250g)
1/3 cup coconut oil (70g)
mix-ins (dark chocolate, dried cranberries, chopped walnuts, chia seeds)
NUTRITIONAL INFO (per ball):
166 calories, fat 8.6g, carb 19.8g, protein 4.1g
Preparation:
In a bowl add the oats, peanut butter, flax meal, date paste and coconut oil. Using your hands mix all the ingredients together. If you prefer you can do it with the food processor too.
If the mixture is too dry to shape (which depends on the consistency of the date paste), add some water.
Add the mix-ins and give it a final mix.
Scoop about 1 tablespoons of mixture and using your hands form the bite sized balls.
You can eat them immediately.
Freeze or store in the fridge for up to 3 months.
Enjoy!

Thx.Thiaa
Wow Great Video...Thank you!
Thanks for the recipe and the tip on making date paste! Can’t wait to make them 👍🏼👍🏼
@@thiaaal-atiya2219 u can replace peanut butter with almond butter or any other nut butter.
I simmer dates on stove until mushy and blend with a pinch of Cinnamon. Best Sweetener! Like apple butter. So good to sweeten yogurt. Thanks for the healthy snack and desserts!
Thanks for the tip 👍..hell yeah I will try that
I love to use dates and prunes as natural sweeteners!
My review no one asked for:
Made these, didn't have any flax seeds, so I used vanilla protein powder instead. Added a tsp of cocoa powder and some dark chocolate nibs too. Used almond butter instead of the peanut one and didn't add any other oil: the mixture was oily and sticky enough.
For some reason, when freshly rolled, the texture of the balls is kinda odd - too sticky and like they are about to melt or fall apart. I was leaving for a picnic and in a rush, so I put half of into the freezer for later and baked half of them for 10 minutes in 185 C oven. It was a good idea - they were harder on the outside which kept them in shape, but still super soft on the inside, and the taste was amazing.
Not sure why, but the ones I put into freezer taste even better. I can bite into them even right after I take them out and I love the texture - like cookie dough ice cream. Gonna make more one day, but it's so hard to have just one!
Have a lovely day everyone!
A Thank you for your experience. I was thinking of making these without soaking dates and using a bit of coconut oil.
He adds coconut oil to make it less sticky and easier to roll up. Maybe you could add a little of that.
Thanks for sharing this.
"Good Review" Thanks for the tips!
Your review that highlights the beauty of online replies - Love that you tried something different and made something already awesome, even better =)
You can also add some finely grated lemon or orange zest for extra flavor, I'm making these soon 😙
Hi Eva! Great idea, just an easy way to add some extra kick to these energy balls Thanks for suggesting!
I use oj
Or Ceylon cinnamon.
Love that!
@@HowToCookSmarter do wr have to freeze thes balls?
Recently made these. They’re a perfect on-the-go healthy treat. I made 4 different ones: one with chia seeds, one with cacao nibs. One with dried cranberries, and a really decadent one with chocolate and butterscotch chips. I had enough left over to then combine all 4 doughs to make ‘everything’ balls. Yummy!
Reminds me of Michael’s “everything pretzel” on pretzel day!
a big hug to you !! your energy balls are just wonderful...i have done them 3 times and each time, i added something new in order to please my son's tastes...dark chocolate mixed with dried cranberries or blueberries...he never took the time to eat breakfast before and now he is going for it every morning and he leaves with a couple of energy balls everytime he rides his bike or go for a hike.. thank you again
I put mine in the oven for about 10 minutes to give them a harder outer shell. Much better this way otherwise they're too sticky. I also put much less oil and added wildflower honey. Taste delicious.
Thanks for the idea. I was also think about how to reduce the stickiness. I was thinking, maybe rolling them in some oats or sunflower-seeds at the end, for a "non-sticky"-shell.
@@Deckaio they're delicious, I've made lots now including some with dark chocolate. Thanks to you for a great recipe.
That’s a great idea, what temperature do you use?
@@lovebirddraws8475 10 minuites at 200 C worked perfectly in my oven. It gave a hard outer shell and a lightly cooked inner.
With less oil and added honey, I can see how they'd be sticky.
You have no idea how much of a blessing your channel has been 😩
Amazing recipe. Few things I found:
1. There is a huge difference with the end result when using standard rolled oats vs quick oats. My suggestion: don't bother with rolled oats, the texture is way too chunky, and the flavour doesn't get all the way through like with quick oats.
2. Depending on the dates you have when making the date paste, this ratio may end up not being sweet enough, I had to add a dash of maple syrup to the actual energy ball recipe to bring the sweetness up a tad, but I made my date paste with dates that are not extremely sweet.
With those things in mind, it's an amazing, easy to make, healthy recipe. I have these every day for breakfast with my coffee now ❤️
Thanks for making the video.
I tried the recipe and I would say mine turned out to be really soft. I am not sure if it was because I had too much of the date paste ratio in comparison to other items. Or if my date paste had too much water. Did you put the water into the blender when making the date paste ? My texture was very different to his, like a pudding .. any advice would be helpful .. thanks !
Shawn Frank Hey 👋
Yeah I put the water in to make the date paste. It sounds like you may have just added a little too much water in is all. I’d suggest trying again with less water when making the date paste, and also perhaps try looking up a recipe for date paste just so you can get a nice ratio. I had no trouble when I put my dates in a jar and putting in just enough water to cover them though. Best of luck 😁
@@KeanuV111 Thank you so much for the tips. Will try in the next batch. Have a great day ahead my friend :)
I ride mountain bikes, and gravel bike, I've come up with a simple easy natural energy drink that works, Drum roll please, coconut water, and maple syurp, I don't have to stop for a snack, I've ridden hours non stop on expert/intermediate trails, and snow covered roads on the gravel bike, 30 to 60 miles, in cold Michigan weather, an I'm in my mid 70's..
sounds tasty!! because 🥥 is everywhere in my country so i prefer the natural taste of the coconut water
Maple syrup is pure sugar and is bad for you. Just because it is "natural" it doesn't mean it is good for you.
@@EnriqueMartinez-id6mumoderation
@@EnriqueMartinez-id6musugar isn’t bad for you yk. it’s just the amount you use. adding in a spoon of maple syrup to coconut water isn’t going to hurt you ;)
I just made those.fantastic❤️. Just used GHEEE(clarified butter) instead of coconut oil. Loved it 🤗
I made these energy balls yesterday and they are a hit. I made them quite large so one is enough with coffee in the morning. I love your recipes. They are simple and full of flavor so it don't feel like "diet" food.
I have to say, I absolutely love your channel! I have tried most of your recipes, am so happy to have found your channel. Keep the recipes coming!
These are incredible!!! I just made them for the very first time tonight for the first time and my kids LOVE them! My EXTREMELY picky 4 year old can't get enough. Definitely going to be a regular recipe in my house from now on.
I already made this 3 times! Excellent! Take 2 before my workouts at 5am
Thanks man! I heard about these so I wanted to see how to make them. I love how you show how to make a base mixture and then show what you can add to change flavors! Definitely going to try these out for a snack before the gym
I had a cookie-shaped desert very similar to this while in hospital. I was on a heart healthy/diabetic diet and was unable to get the recipe from the dietary department. Thanks to your video, I’ll be trying this with cranberries!

These were soooo good. I made different batches, w nuts, w choc, w honey instead of dates and all my seeds. I use POWDERED peanut butter. I licked my glove and the bowl. TY so much!

I just made these, a unsweetened coconut batch, a dried cherry batch, and a dark chocolate almond batch! I added some vanilla to the mix. Delicious! I could only find gluten free regular oats, so I had to add a small amount of water.
These energy balls look amazing! I was searching for a snack that would increase my fiber intake. This is perfect! Thank you!!

Wooooow, I was buying these so called energy balls before, which is expensive!!! thank you so much for sharing this simple recipe . I am making a batch on my day off and they are the best after work, healthy snack that I enjoy on my way back home:-))))
Been making these a while now with dates, oats, protein powder, fruit n nuts. Awesome snacks and keep me going with energy.
Loved this recipe!!! I did not follow the quantities in my first attempt, ended up pouring too much water in the dates but did not use water at all the next time. Had some difficult time mashing the dates with hands but everything came out so well in the end. Perfect snack!!
I just call them delicious, because I just followed the basic recipe and that's what they are! Cant wait until they're chilled! Thank you for a good healthy recipe!

I used mixed berry granola, margarine and maple syrup. Cooked it on a saucepan first and when all ingredients were combined I shaped them into balls.

How To Cook Smarter I made them yesterday. They are so good, I put dark chocolate chips in as I am vegan. I had 2 for breakfast and really enjoyed them, so filling. Thanks for a great recipe 😊 To be honest, the mixture was so nice with the coconut oil flavour and sweetness of dates, I could have omitted the chocolate.
You had flaxseeds?
Lucio Lynx yes 😊 I bought them to put on my porridge for omega 3

This is amazing. I've purchase a lot of these from Costco and they are not cheap. I like the idea of making it yourself, you can custom it to your liking. I love the ingredients, can you really go wrong with peanut butter and coconut oil????? I think not 🤣🤣. You made the balls so perfectly round. I like all the different combinations, especially the dark chocolate. YUM, I need some of these pronto. Thanks for sharing another fantastic recipe. You're amazing. 👍LIKE #30
Hi, thank you so much for your awesome comment! You're so right, you can't go wrong with ingredients like this, when you look at the list you know it has to be delicious. I was thinking to skip the coconut oil in this recipe, you know to make them more affordable, but it really gave the edge to these balls, loved that coconut flavor and it's so easier to work the balls with coconut oil inside, no sticking at all. They're called Ladoo, and have been a staple treat in indian cuisine for many centuries. This variant simply adds instant oats to the mix, and replaces ground cashews with peanut butter.

Wow..these look great! I was wondering....is the flaxseed necessary? What can I use as a substitute for the flaxseed? Can't wait to make them :) Hugs from Norway :)
I'm not sure what you mean by "necessary." Flaxseed is a good source of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), a plant-based omega-3 fatty acid. This is important because your body does not produce this essential fatty acid and you must get it from a food source. In the video, he said that he was including the flaxseed for this reason. Hugs right back at you!
Hi Anita, not necessary at all. Flaxseed is not the best for those who are hormone sensitive.
Wow I love those. Actually my whole family enjoy them. My grand daughter who is 18 months old has them for breakfast.
Thank you!
Put these ingredients into a recipe calorie calculator and it gave totals of greater than 3,000 calories. Just something to bear in mind when you portion these up!
Yes and sugar load of dates
He said he made about 20 of them in the batch, which bring them to 150 calories each. A filling snack with significant protein and fiber for 150 calories? Excellent.
Need to check out the whole 'calories in calories out' thing. It's not accurate. Whole foods Trump's all
I added a dash of salt and it was perfection. My 2 kids are gluten and dairy sensitive so this was a perfect treat/snack/breakfast for them. Yum!
