Studio mk27’s Minas House is a breathtaking architectural feat nestled amidst the dramatic topography of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Perched on a steep incline, the house appears from the street as an unassuming wooden box, concealing its true complexity from view. However, once across the bridge connecting the public and private realms, the house unfolds to reveal a series of interconnected volumes and platforms that harmonize with the surrounding landscape. To elevate the structure and allow rainwater to flow freely, the architects ingeniously incorporated stilts disguised among the lush vegetation, recreating the original rainforest. This strategic design choice also creates a striking contrast with the imposing embankment walls of neighboring properties. The house is a study in contrasts: the horizontal lines of the concrete slabs counterbalance the verticality of the site, while the warm wooden boxes offer a tactile counterpoint to the cool, minimalist concrete
