    My teacher, The Chief Ground School
    Instructor at Glendale College, Ca. in '71, asked for 2 student
    volunteers to help pay the fuel cost ($20ea) to fly from Van Nuys,
    Ca. to Maraposa, Ca. I and another student took the ride. A third
    student, who just got his Private Pilot License flew the Cessna 182,
    the college Chief Ground School Instructor/retired Military Jet
    Pilot, sat in the right front seat. We were flying "IFR On Top"
    of a Heavy "overcast" and it was getting dark, Then, we saw
    two headlights way out in front of us coming towards us (It looked
    like a car was driving around up there). The Chief said, you better
    let me take it 'til we see what that guy's gonna do. It turned out O
    K and he gave the plane back to the New Pilot.The Chief was getting
    nervous and was considering turning back, but, the rest of us wanted
    to fly over to the edge of the ceiling and have a look down, he
    agreed and we flew down under the ceiling and continued the flight.
    As we descended to land at Maraposa (Maraposa was painted on the
    runway in big letters) a Big Bird flew right at our right wing, but,
    at the last minute it ducked under the wing and went on with its
    flight. As I look back on it, now, I wish "Sullly" was
    flying with us, but, the Retired Military Jet Pilot/Chief Ground
    School Instructor, did OK. We landed and went to the college
    conference. The Chief said he was Glad we didn't turn back, everybody
    else was there.

    Cessna 182 "Out" from Maraposa, Ca. to Van Nuys, Ca. (No bird this time, but, a different problem), as we departed Maraposa Airport, the Glendale College Chief Ground School Instructor/Military Jet pilot was getting nervous and starting to "Chain Smoke" as the New Pilot could not raise ANYONE!, on the Radio! No one!, Not, Departure Control, Approach Control, Tower, Ground Control, Flight Service Station, nothing anywhere. until he reached under the control panel and pushed the Microphone plug ALL THE WAY "IN", then EVERYBODY CAME BACK!!!. The Chief stopped smoking. There's no "Routine" flights, each Flight should be your First Flight. (In my opinion)

    If it's an O-470, it has a carb - and hence is not injected - therefore no injectors to balance. Means GAMI's (or ANY injector balancing) aren't an option.....just an FYI.

    what is the life span or the number of flying hours of cessna 182 before it is needed to overhaul?

    • @aerolife1646
      @aerolife1646  4 роки тому

      Recommended Engine overhaul period(TBO) depends on the engine model. Overhaul should be done based on the condition of the engine. metal particles, compression and other facts.

    O470-R is a low compression engine as it was certified for 80 octane so not sure why you keep calling it a high compression engine

    • @aerolife1646
      @aerolife1646  3 роки тому

      O-470 engines have a higher compression ratio. Some submodels have 8.6:1 developing max power at lower RPM. I would have to check this submodel for compression ratio.

    • @Ichibuns
      @Ichibuns 4 роки тому +2

      Glass is somewhere around $30,000. G1000 is a bit higher. Bright side is that you will definitely gain some useful load. I promise, the G500 and the steam gauges in this airplane are more than what it needs. It really isn't worth the money for the glass cockpit unless you're also springing for an autopilot

    • @aerolife1646
      @aerolife1646  4 роки тому +5

      I think if anyone needs a glass cockpit and the latest avionics it is good to buy one already installed. If someone doesn't want to spend that much money buy one without them. These models are built like this, they have flown a few decades, thousands of hours like this.
