Kumho MT71 Mud Tyre - Long Term Tyre Review

- Chris has put the Kumho MT71 mud tyre through the wringer over 10,000km, so let's see what he thought about them.
We ping him on what his first impressions were, how noisy they are, how they perform on and off the road, and more.
The size tested was 35x12.5 R18, and they were strapped to Chris' over the top 200 series Landcruiser.

Currently running these in 315/75x16 on a Defender. The only tyre that I have experience with that outgrip the Kumhos are Nitto Mud Grapplers. However, Nittos are wildly noisy and nowhere near as civilised on bitumen. The Kumho is really civilised onroad, with no vices- and quiet. Behaviour is entirely predictable and any loss of traction at the limit is progressive. Very thick sidewalls are a double-edged sword. Hard to damage but need a lot of air removed to get them to bag. No chipping or tears to date. Highly impressed.

The brown colouring on the tyres is iron partials from break rotors.
An iron decon spray will dissolve the iron particles and return the tyre to the original black colour.
Don't use a petroleum based tyre shine as it can also turn tyres brown.

Would have been good to get some reasons for the 8 out of 10 overall and 6 out of 10 on road? He didn’t really give any negative comments at all. Thought they would have been higher scores.
8 out of 10 was for off road and hes never seen a 10 out of 10 . are you dyslexic?
