My 87+ yrs old couple are my neighbour living on their own.
Their door and mine are always open.
(It’s 99.9% safe to do this in Singapore)
My corner home & corridor garden extended to theirs areas, allows them to relax.
There’s 2 stable chairs for them to sit, exercise and relax.
Believe me, auntie love to dozed off and sleep on the chair in the middle of the night. 😳 Hmm..it’s cool & comfortable. 🌱 I don’t disturbs her. She do have a maid.
I am ‘taking care’ of them by chit-chat & assist them in anyway they need.
Give them a portion of fruits I bought, buy lunch for them during maid’s off day, etc.
They don’t have to feel lonely that way. 🙏
Twice, up to now, ambulance was needed for uncle’s emergency.
p.s. Wow! at 104, this auntie is still ‘on the go’ Fantastic.
She’s very alert. Analytical mind. Even able to self support herself at this age. 👍

She mentioned thrice or four times in this 1 min video that she is worried that she will fall when she is showering or rather going to the toilets. That means she is constantly worried about this issue everyday.
Hopefully someone can help her because I really know how it feels when your mobility is taken away and no one to help you.

If Ah mah is still around. On my part I could visit her and stay with her a few hrs weekly. Anyone is able to give me her address. I am staying in sengkang n my grandson will be in play school by this October.

A wheeled walker would be good. There are some with three wheels, which make it easier to get through doorways.
Ah Ma shd just lock gate, but leave the main door open, so that neighbours or social workers can see her. Wonder where she is living, can visit her at times just to check on her.

Still speaking well and alert in her mind. The 50 plus year old auntie I have at my workplace is so hard to work with. Ppl teach her then she said ok ok. Then when it comes to do it she said she forget. Then after that can still blame others when she is in the wrong. Also she is not married and not receptive towards ppl’s opinion on how she should improved in her work. Haiz… this auntie here has got to be the luckiest having those genes. Wish her best in health.

Singapore should have an old folks village but in HDB flats. And not somewhere secluded or ulu-ulu. Must be part of the community.
In this HDB Old folks community, members are allowed to come and go as they please - meaning these members must be sharp mentally and fit physically, and they can eat whatever they want.
The management's main responsibilities are to ensure members' safety while they are at home, meaning checking on them twice a day, helping them with medications, calling for them taxis, engaging with them as much as they want or as little as they want, providing emotional support for those who need it.
In this scenario they will have the best of both worlds - they are free to do their thing and at the same have all the help they need.

@@rosyxue1785 correct, so in case we should survive so long, we must try to stay as healthy as possible n have constant social engagements as long as we can.
I feel so sad for her. Elderly at this age needs brain stimulation and interaction with the society, be it with family, relatives or friends. It already is a lonely journey seeing peers of your age slowly die, and they need support more than ever
She stayed in old folks home for a year & doesn't like it. She rented this place instead.
She will realised old folks home there are safety & ppl taking care of her. Here she can have her freedom & look after herself.
As she age she will no longer remember things & all the things will slow down & she can't do everything herself. Maybe until then.

So sad to see the new generation do not want their elderly parents to live with them and doesnt life is a circle when the children were young the parents take care of them and when they are old the children can take care of them instead of letting them living alone .... Nursing home dont they suppose to treat the elders with care instead of giving them uneasy day to live there ...
hi my she is my great grandma and i can say that she said she wants to stay at her house and my grandma is currently most of the time staying with her to look after her. Right now she has a helper also but the helper does not speak the dialect so she still needs some companionship
maybe that is why she lived that long because of less stressor.

But the thing is old folks home has rules that some find too stringent.
It is not just staying in old folks home for companion. It's more than that. I work with old folks home before. There's nothing like home. You die faster n very depressed if your loved ones hardly visit.
