      I use to literally get mad when I started seeing a white hair. Fast forward, I had a new baby at 41. I had a molar pregnancy 14 months later & had to have an emergency hysterectomy. My body still thought I was pregnant & produces very high amounts of the pregnancy hormone, hcg. After 9 months at my last Ob/Gyn appointment, my doctor told me all we could do was pray and I was preparing myself to b referred to an Oncologist to receive chemotherapy & whatever other cancer treatment. By the grace of God, my numbers went down right in the nick of time & I didn’t have to have cancer treatment. I have 4 older children that I knew would remember me, but holding my 1 year old baby in my arms and thinking that she may never remember me was absolutely devastating. Fast forward again and my Baby #5 is now 4 and I’m 46. I go in for a routine mammogram and they found something suspicious. I was immediately scheduled to go the the Breast Cancer Center at my local hospital for further evaluation. Again, crisis avoided and they said everything was ok. Having 2 cancer scares in a period of 4 years has been the worst. My children r 25,22,19,16 & 4. They ALL need their Mama. My husband lost his mother to breast cancer & it started when he was only around 8. My mindset has totally changed. I am so grateful to see my white hairs & even more grateful that I even have hair. I’m grateful that I’m healthy & I’m here to watch my children grow up. Also, I see how painful it is for my husband at 55 to still miss his mother & think about her & talk about her & wish that she was alive to see our baby girl that we had together. I am so sorry for your pain & your loss. To grow old is definitely a privilege.
      I wish more people celebrated having the privilege to grow older.

    I'm a big fan of bed rotting- doing it now. While I hate the phrase but it feels good to just zone out for a day or two.

    In my early 50’s I used to run 3-5 miles a day. Now I’m 65 and had to stop running due to a back injury. I have turned to walking, and walk almost every day. But I’ve had to learn to tell the difference between laziness and extremely tired. Today I thought I was being lazy and trash talked myself into getting out there. Halfway through my normal walk I realized that I was exhausted, and had trouble making it home. I’m lying in bed and click on your video. Christina, this was exactly what I needed to hear. Not my family’s version of “you’re no spring chicken, ya know”. Thank you.

    I def struggle with taking down days and then beating myself up for not”doing anything” So I tend to give myself some satisfying tasks like organizing things that bring me joy like my makeup and skincare or my closet. I find I look forward to these tasks and they don’t feel like “chores” and it allows me to do something that’s helpful and pleasurable to me but I still feel relaxed.

  • @hdeare
    @hdeare 10 місяців тому +11

    When everything is just too much I focus on a small chore, typically I clean/declutter my makeup. It doesn’t take long, I get rid of stuff I don’t need and looks pretty when I’m done. I feel like I accomplished “something” but didn’t spend a lot of energy, time or money. Then I can relax, read, drink tea and hang out with my cats. ❤

    Thank you for this video. ❤️. My sister who I live with is going through chemotherapy and it’s been a very hard few months still a few more to go. Having compassion towards myself is something I need to acknowledge now. Work.. is a form of self care as I love my job and home life is more stressful now. After work I sometimes thrift and even if I don’t find anything ( I am very fussy what I add to my wardrobe) the act of sifting and looking is very soothing to me. Lately I have been trying to think of cooking a healthy meal for me and my sister as self care. Hot water bottles snuggled up while watching you tube videos also feels like self care too. Thanks for the great reminders.

    I’ve just worked solidly for the last 2 weeks in healthcare since eldest son joined the British military. I have 2 days off from work, today I’ve serviced my car, done 2 loads of laundry ( including my ironing) been thrift and grocery shopping. I can’t seem to slow down, and at some point I’m going to crack. I have booked a hair appointment tomorrow, so hopefully I can do a little self care, before I start again. Love all the tips, it’s a shame that I cannot feel like I can do any. Love and compassion from Lesley England xx

    My self care is staying my pj’s all day and just hanging out snuggling with my youngest child. It’s the best! People really need to learn how to slow down and prioritize what’s really important to them and cut out all the excess. I definitely agree about setting boundaries & also learning how to say the word, “No.”

    My break from school and work just started today, and already I'm starting to feel happier and calmer! It's not often that I get the house to myself as I still live with my parents currently, but with the time I get to have for myself, I'm planning to indulge on all the things that I usually end up neglecting. It depends how I’m feeling as to what I do for self care. Sometimes it’s simply staying in bed all day. Full black out curtains, I am dead to the world kind of day. I don’t look at my phone or anything. I snuggle my yorkie and that’s it. I often feel guilty because I feel I’m being lazy, but I deal with chronic pain from multiple autoimmune diseases and other conditions. Most don’t understand that for me, living is a draining task, and sometimes I need a break.

    Tea and honey, instead of coffee (no creamer needed). A long hot bath 🛀 with bubbles, and eucalyptus Epsom salt. Then fresh scent body oil. Some hand sewing looking out the sunny window at a bird feeder. 🙂 Or sitting in the sun, with bare feet on the ground, and listening to something supportive.

    I’ve only just started listening to your video. And I’m already, oh yeah, that’s me. It’s a beautiful day out there. I went for a run. There’s still lots of colours left. But I still feel overextended and aimless and uninspired. I have no idea why. My life is really no worse and no better than it’s been for the last few months. I have a feeling that I could spend the next four months figuring out what’s the matter with me. But maybe it’s just time to let me feel this way and not buck the flow too hard. I’ll continue to listen to your video now. Perhaps you will offer a spark to get my brain space in a better place. ❤❤ Sending you happy thoughts to find your happy place.
