    Beautiful rose! While you were drawing it, it reminded me of when Rusty and I met 39 yrs ago. He was in the Marine Corp stationed in Washington DC. We met the summer I was 17 and he was 19. We would write letters and he would always draw a rose on the letter.....We will be married 39 yrs soon. Thanks for the great memory and your Lovely rose.😎

    Aquacolors, and most of Stabilo coloured pencils are sadly underrated. But these aquacolor ones are oddly popular in Japan. Lovely pencils and I do wish they had a larger set. The rose you painted is truly wonderful, very soft but detailed. Great job on the water droplets especially Harry!

    That rose is beautiful. So delicate.
    I like the Stabilo felt tips too. They do a big range of colours. 62 I think. These pencils retain their depth of colour well.

      +tiffanyveng honestly, and I really mean this, if I can draw, then anyone can. I only started about two years ago and if you go onto my site you can see what my drawing was like two years ago. I just watched loads of tutorials, purchased the odd online class from Craftsy and The Virtual Instructor and just practised as often as I could. You can definitely draw something like this, give yourself a little bit of time and don’t be too hard on your first few tries.

    Stabilo used to make artist grade colored pencils, with lightfast ratings on the pencils themselves, they were called Softcolor and were so lovely to use, so smooth and creamy, but they have been discontinued for some years now and almost impossible to find. These are nice as well, even if students grade, your rose shows how good they are! :)

    • @TheArtGearGuide
      @TheArtGearGuide  7 років тому +2

      UltramarineBlu they are just called Color now and I have a set to review and you are right they are beautiful pencils, if you click on the Stabilo link I have provided you will see them in the product section but keep an eye out for my review of them.

    • @UltramarineBlu
      @UltramarineBlu 7 років тому +1

      Unfortunately those are not the same at all, I know because I have the old ones, they were really different, they were available in 80 colors and much thicker leads. I am sure the Stabilo Color are good but they are students grade.

    • @UltramarineBlu
      @UltramarineBlu 7 років тому

      I just saw they have yet another colored pencils line, Stabilo Original, 38 colors with thin leads, they have lightfast ratings on the pencils and some are lightfast.

    Great review! I have a special place in my heart for Stabilo! I have their 60 Carbothello Pastels, and the 36 of wax colored pencils. I needed a decent set that would keep a fine point like my Prismacolor Premier wont. They are great pencils, especially for the price. I dont need watercolor pencils, but as soon as I saw the icon w/ your logo, I slapped myself! Oh no! Stabilo makes Aquarelle. I am sunk, and they are in the bucket, lol! Cheers!

    Great review and surprisingingly pigmented pencils! One thing I find strange is the way you pronounce Stabilo as if it would be Spanish and have 2 Ls while it's a German company.

    • @TheArtGearGuide
      @TheArtGearGuide  7 років тому +7

      Luk Claes Luk mate I am Irish nothing I pronounce sounds right lol when I first came to England to join the Army when I would go out with my mates, if we went into a chip shop or McDonalds, they would have to order my food for me cause nobody could understand my accent at all. I have lived in England 27 years now and my accent has changed so much that when I talk to friends from back home they think I have an English Accent lol.

    Wow, such a lovely drawing! And those pencils look really good, too. I just saw them used on someone else's channel and because they looked so nice, I went to check whether you have reviewed them. 😊 I think I will be getting myself a set of these. I'm not too happy that they say nothing about lightfastness, but they still seem like a nice choice of watercolor pencil for working in a sketchbook.

    Great review video Harry! 😁 The rose came out beautifully. You should mat & frame it for Vicky. 😃 I think you have a really eye for using the watercolor pencils. I hope you do more! 😁 As for the pencils, I didn't know stabilo made them. They look great. My only hesitation is no lightfast info & the fact that they list them basically for students. I love their pastel pencils & those are listed as highly lightfast. I have read that the lightfast lowers once activated with water. The Derwent inktense state the lightfast is based on the dry pigment, not once they are activated. One thing I would highly recommend doing with any watercolor pencil is to get a palette to rub off pigment instead of using a brush on the actual pencil tip. Unfortunately, wood & damp/wet don't work well together. As the pencil wood gets wet, dries, wet, dries, etc.; it can warp & split over time. I'm surprised when some companies advertise doing it. Here is that palette for watercolor pencils: www.amazon.com/CREATIVE-ART-MATERIALS-Aquarelle-117-103/dp/B00OP5OFKW/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1511666554&sr=8-1-fkmr0&keywords=caran+d%27ache+plastic+palette
    I have this palette and it works great. I hope you are doing well my friend. Take care! 🤗

      Apparently they are of a same grade as the very popular Carbothello, like how Albrecht Durer is of the same grade as the Polychromos, so I doubt quality is a big issue. However Carbothello is not 100% lightfast, which suggests it is the same for this set

    • @DrawingWithFire
      @DrawingWithFire 7 років тому +1

      Snorlax I was going off of what stabilo writes on their website for both the aquacolor & carbothellos. They claim the carbothellos are highly lightfast, but do not have a list that I saw. I also have not tested them. At some point I will. 😉

    • @DrawingWithFire
      @DrawingWithFire 7 років тому +1

      Actually, I forgot that the carbothellos have their lightfast rating on the pastel pencil.

      +Valarie Connell /DrawingWithFire hi Val the main reason I started looking at Stabilo for Pencils was because I really wanted to review their pastel pencils. I have a set here to review but that review is for one of the magazine issues in 2018. But you are right, of all their pencils, the Pastel pencils are the ones they have really went all out on. The lightfast info is on the pencil as is the colour name. They really are an amazing pencil but they are not like other Pastel pencils, Stabilo told me their ingredients are different to other pencils and are more chalk. But I can’t go too in-depth here as I need to wait for the review.

    • @TheArtGearGuide
      @TheArtGearGuide  7 років тому

      +Valarie Connell /DrawingWithFire thank you so much Val, I know the palette you are referring about in fact in the Caran D’Ache video were they demonstrate they also demonstrate lifting the pigment from the core with a brush. I think so long as you are not creating entire paintings using this method and just lifting small amounts of pigment with a damp brush and not saturated, the pencil will be okay.
      I’ve seen UA-cam videos were people have used really saturated brushes and lifted enough pigment to cover a background and the pencils look battered. Everything in moderation, or does that just apply to the odd Christmas pint or two 😂😂.
      Hope you are keeping well Val and getting ready for Christmas, I heard you say in your latest video that you both have the grandkids over for Christmas, that will be so nice for you both.

      Tasnuva Bidita He used an eraser, this kind is similar to a mechanical pencil (with the eraser being like a pencil lead). Not sure which brand he's using here, but Tombow mono zero eraser is very good. Here's an amazon link: www.amazon.com/Tombow-57305-Eraser-Round-1-Pack/dp/B005IQHCHK

    great review thanks for the upload. Are these different from the Stabilo aquarelle all pencils?

    • @TheArtGearGuide
      @TheArtGearGuide  4 роки тому

      Thank you so much for the comment. I think these pencils are a little bit higher quality and there these pencils have a larger Color palette, but in all honesty I will have to get hold of the pencils you are asking about and review them. That way I can give you a much more detailed account of the differences. Sorry I couldn’t be much help but I’ll get the pencils and answer you properly.

      First of, are you looking for watercolor pencils or just colored pencils, What Staedtler pencils are you referring to and do you mean the Faber Castell Gold Faber Aqua pencils or just the colored pencils. The reason I ask is because you have mentioned some water soluble pencils and some ordinary colored pencils. Let me know and I will be able to help you further.

    Is it, what do you call it, the tooth of the paper making the strokes stand out then? How does blending technics work, once activated with water?

    • @TheArtGearGuide
      @TheArtGearGuide  7 років тому +1

      Marianne Jensen yeah the paper is a really smooth Watercolor paper Hot Pressed but in terms of mixing Color you can do it a couple of way. Use a scrap bit of paper, scribble the two colors you want to blend and lift the Color with the brush and mix on a palette, or blend them together dry and then activate with water. I should have demonstrated it in this video but I will in my next video.

    I am an Indian artist and there is no value for us, is there any scope for us in the western world?

    • @TheArtGearGuide
      @TheArtGearGuide  3 роки тому +1

      I understand your concern and it is something that frustrates me also. I can’t obviously provide prices for every country on earth, but I would like to cover China, Russia, India, Japan, South America and Australia. Thing is, when I started providing price guides I did so using Amazon as it was a more generic price guide. If I used the likes of Jerry’s in America, Hobby Craft in the UK I run the risk of offending other stores and so Amazon was the simplest way. But Amazon is not actually that global. In Australia for example, Amazon has only recently added art supplies to their Australian Store and as things stand they are quite limited.
