Omg these videos are amazing. We did a lease to loan that kept our payment low and drove the car for ten years and ended up with a bit of equity to trade in. But then when we did that a second time with the next car we put more miles on it and only got six years out of that car and owed more than it was worth. We actually put it in storage and kept making payments while simultaneously getting a new lease. Cray Cray - Now we are finally about breaking even with the older car’s equity and the newer car’s lease is due in Feb. ‘22. Trying to make sure we do the best thing next time.
We will be first time leasers this year and we'd love a video on everything we need to know. Super nervous about it as we've historically come from a "never lease" family, but feel it's right for our family this time around!
I'm watching this with the baby monitor on at 12AM while my son sleeps. At 7:16-7:20 one of your kids is either crying/talking and I've just freaked out 3x thinking it was my son :-p
HI! new subscriber ! my husband and I worked for years to save money to pay for our vehicles cash! but unfortunately we didn't realize wed outgrow our little rogue so quickly! thanks for the tips
Thanks for making all your videos. I look forward to looking over your PDF. we are trying to figure out so many of these things - forecasting, exit strategy and it’s overwhelming. Appreciate your reviews.
I’m obviously not per say your target audience but I like your tips and perspective on buying a car. Your Bronco video was my introduction to your channel so I’m curious on your thoughts of dealer markup on certain vehicles. ✌🏼
I already know i want a minivan when i have kids, but im several years away and am getting a new car. My mentally is "i know i will upgrad in x years but what will work for my first and maybe second kid?" While still getting something that works for my current situation.
good video. it’s a lot of work. but i also found it beneficial to practice buying at other dealerships via phone or in person. knock the rust off and utilize the intel gained with them at your local dealership. that was pre-covid, Definitely a different animal post covid.
Definitely guilty of a few of these in the past! Great video thanks for the tips! I usually lease now it works better for our family. Would love a video about your entire take on leasing.
Can’t thank you enough, I learned something! Great websites too! Would love to have the luxury of choosing the sales staff to work with..it just doesn’t happen here…
I cannot believe most people get a car every 3 years! I suppose accidents cause some of that. My husband had his last car for 14 years- guess we are not in the norm. Great video!
I am with you, my car is 10 years old. My husband is closer to 3 years but only because he bought a Subaru Crosstrek about 6 years ago (whenever they first came out) and he keeps getting offers to trade in that are too good to refuse.
#4 kinda got me. I bought a Ford Explorer and it worked great for the 1st kid. But when we had #2. I realized I had to slide up my driver seat and suddenly the ride wasn’t as comfortable for me. Still works great and love the car. But should have gone with an expedition or suburban. I still plan on keeping the car till I have the cash to up get either an f350 or an expedition
Thank you!! We are currently pregnant with baby 2. Both my husband and I driver sedans so we definitely need to upgrade to something bigger. We want more kids but not for 3 years minimum. Trying to decide if leasing a smaller suv for 3 years would be best or if we should be looking at buying a used or older 7/8 passenger.. 🤔 I’ve never had a new car in my life. My Milan is a 2008 and I’ve had it for 5 years now. I was planning to drive that u til it died but now I need more space. So I think maybe an longer term would work for me since I’m not ITCHING for a new car 🤔
It's not just about the monthly payment. It's also about knowing the value of your car and not overpaying in interest. Shop around for good interest rates before you walk into a dealership.
What are the obvious fees that the car dealership will charge to an unsuspected buyers? and the fees that you do not have to pay at all beside the MSRP, tax, and title.
Happy Easter to you and your family, Kelly!!! These are the five mistakes that you need to avoid when you look for a used vehicle. I am thinking about which vehicle should I help my family member to purchase that is safe, reliable, fuel-efficient and a daily driver. I am interested to check out a 2004 Mazda 6 sedan with the 3 L V6 engine, which produces 220 horsepower and the five-speed automatic transmission with manual-shift capability. They are priced around five thousand dollars and it is at a used car dealer in another city of the Lower Mainland of British Columbia in Canada, which is Surrey. Vancouver is the principal city of the west coast of Canada and everything is skyrocketed, because prices are through the roof. Anyway, I am hoping for more of The Car Mom videos to come in the days ahead.
I think it's important that you demand PPI on a used car, not just drive it. It's easy to make something run for a week. Pre purchase inspection, always.
Can you do a video on leasing vs buying? I’ve never really understood leasing because I grew up in a family where you drive a car forever, and I’m wondering if that would be a better option for my family down the line!
If you have a job and will continue to be employed then leasing is a good option. Miles are limited and you have to return the car after the lease ends-but you can always start a new lease as long as you have a verifiable income. Put some money down to reduce monthly payment. For ex $ 1000 down reduces your payment by $20 bucks on 48 and about 50 bucks on 24 month lease. Don't put a lot of money down because if something happens to the car-like you total it,then you lose that money,so it is risky a bit but you can drive a luxury car for relatively small monthly payment. With cars costing 40-50-70K leasing may be the only way.
Also, it goes based on your credit score. I lease and messed up with credit cards a few years back and my credit isn't the best. Luckily my mom is more than fine with co-signing. But I would recommend not putting any money down. like you said, if something happens, you won't see a dime back. In my opinion, I'd take the $1000 that's been saved up, take the higher payment, and divide out that $1000 by however long the lease is and use it towards the monthly payments. Also, since with leasing the payments are paying the depreciation, the slightly higher payment gives you a better chance of turning in the vehicle with positive equity, which then can be used as a trade-in value.
Ok when she said to future proof your car, i just though ok I’m on the right track because there’s a certain car a i really want and i like it a lot and I’m just thinking now I’m still young and i drive around alone but what about when i have kids and their friends are with me too
"Is that VW Tiguan really going to be working still?" As I sit here looking around for a used Tiguan for my growing family(it's still just my husband and I).
Thank you for sharing this information. It is great information! My wife and I are looking either an 2022 Atlas V6 Premium or a 2022 Tahoe LT and currently spending a lot of time looking at different dealerships online. Have 2 5yr old kids. Based on your reviews which would be a better vehicle?
can you do a video talking about the leasing process? i've only ever bought a vehicle and think leasing will be the right option for my family for the time being, but know nothing about it - thanks!
Kelly needs a lavaliere. I have a $16 lavaliere and it’s great, much easier than hand-holding a mic because you could accidentally move and it’ll cause noise. The rode lavaliere go is $79 and it’s probably one of the best.
The first mistake would be to buy any car new or used this year. This is because of dealer mark ups and the inflation combined with car production being reduced for N.America markets. You will never see hundreds of cars on dealer lots again. Dealerships will only sell you cars that you prepay and order. You will have to wait for it to arrive. Next year car prices will come down b/c dealers will have lots of unsold 50K cars that used to cost 25K in the previous year or two. On top of that people who just bought 50K cars will default on their loans. Beyond that internal combustion cars will no longer be produced or significantly reduced after 2025 and soon after that they will be outlawed. That is why you can hardly find any new cars on dealer lots. The government bailed out the dealerships and dealers are no longer interested in taking your offers, they want msrp-plus! b/c they don't have to sell any cars since the government gives them free money for their loses. Dealers are using their car business as a tax write off making money that way. Gl.
Rule of thumb; DO NOT buy/finance any car for over sixty months unless you intend to keep it for a period of ten years or more, PLUS 0% APR financing rate. If you need 84 months to buy a car, guess what?........you can't afford it.
man the shit this lady must see: 10k upside on loan, credit scores in the 600’s, 84mnth financing and the mnthly payment is still 50% of take home pay… etc etc - do a video on the horrors you see slangin korean whips.
I sold cars for about 5 years. These are excellent car buying tips. I would also add to shop around on financing. Get at least two offers.
Excellent advice! Thank you! Had my first 'Mom' car for 12 years now looking for bigger second 'Mom' vehicle.

Thanks! Great advice for dads, too! 😎👍
I enjoyed the video and went to the websites you mentioned, very helpful. Can you do a video on leasing vehicles?
I love that idea, leasing a car always confuses me.
@@ashleejones1049 Same here, never leased but thinking about leasing in 2022.
We will be first time leasers this year and we'd love a video on everything we need to know. Super nervous about it as we've historically come from a "never lease" family, but feel it's right for our family this time around!
I would also be interested in a lease video
Super helpful and thoughtful and clear advice! Thank you!
I am SO HAPPY I discovered your channel!!!
I definitely did mistake #4 …got a Nissan Rogue thinking it was going to fit three car seats 😅
I'm watching this with the baby monitor on at 12AM while my son sleeps. At 7:16-7:20 one of your kids is either crying/talking and I've just freaked out 3x thinking it was my son :-p
Thank goodness you sold us our car! So easy, smooth, parent-minded, and truly wanting the best for your customers! :)
Thanks so much for watching! Hope the Sorento is treating you well :)

You're awesome!! Thank you for this valuable info.
Awesome video. Tips 1,3,4 & 5 are something I have been following since a long time.
I already know i want a minivan when i have kids, but im several years away and am getting a new car. My mentally is "i know i will upgrad in x years but what will work for my first and maybe second kid?" While still getting something that works for my current situation.
Solid tips! Wish you were around when I bought my first car!

Great video with some great information! Sent it to my husband so we can make a better decision when buying our next car!
Definitely guilty of a few of these in the past! Great video thanks for the tips! I usually lease now it works better for our family. Would love a video about your entire take on leasing.
hi can you tell me why you lease? i’m looking into this thank you :)
Wonderful video great information.

I was thinking the same thing, we usually keep ours around 7-10 years.

Thanks for the Dealer Rater info. Love watching your channel.
I always liked the idea of leasing, except the mileage cap, my daily commute alone usually surpasses the allowance! :-(

Thank you for this video! Can you do a video of a newer Honda Pilot please.
Yes to this please! I am looking for a larger family SUV in my price range and the pilot might fit that ticket.
Can you do a video on if you’ve already made mistake number 5 and are severely upside down 🙃... are there any viable options if you want out?
I think it's important that you demand PPI on a used car, not just drive it. It's easy to make something run for a week. Pre purchase inspection, always.

Great advice!! Thank you.
You're great!. Do you have any information about Leasing???
Great tips! Thx!

Is there a good calculator for a monthly leasing budget related to total vehicle cost?
Please do a top 10 list!!!
Great tips!
Commenting for the algorithm gain!
Good ideas
What do you suggest if all the nearby dealerships don't have the car you want in stock? (Palisade)
I would look for dealerships in surrounding states and inquire about getting a car shipped. A ton more dealerships are selling cars this way.
Kelly needs a lavaliere. I have a $16 lavaliere and it’s great, much easier than hand-holding a mic because you could accidentally move and it’ll cause noise.
The rode lavaliere go is $79 and it’s probably one of the best.
I guess Im in the minority, I've always kept every car for the term of the loan (usually 72 months). I love paying a car off and keeping them.

On budget never buy a car on payments, listen to Dave Ramsey and never lease a car
Mistake 0.: You trade-in instead of selling it. :D
Give me some advice to buy a new car.
PLEAE DO AN UPDATE OF THIS 'Mistakes Video' FOR 2024-2025? Thank you!!!
If you don’t have a 5 star review rating then I’ve lost all faith in humanity.
Reason #1 is why I would never buy a Tesla. No matter how much you calculate it's as expensive AF
Cars are so expensive. Do people need to spend $60k on an SUV. My mother piled 3 children and 2 cousins in a station wagon and no one cared.
That mic goes up inside your top and clips to the top outside of your blouse
Rule of thumb; DO NOT buy/finance any car for over sixty months unless you intend to keep it for a period of ten years or more, PLUS 0% APR financing rate. If you need 84 months to buy a car, guess what?........you can't afford it.
For most people:
If you want a new car - lease it
If you want to own - buy CPO/used
man the shit this lady must see: 10k upside on loan, credit scores in the 600’s, 84mnth financing and the mnthly payment is still 50% of take home pay… etc etc - do a video on the horrors you see slangin korean whips.
Just curious why you dont like red cars? Asking after watching another video.
Never listen to car salesperson for car buying advise
Seriously. Working backwards from what payment you want is a dealer tactic. Not something a wise consumer should do.
