    Thank you so much. First, I just want to say you are the kind of person I would love to just sit and shoot the breeze with. You are genuine, honest, and funny. You have a way of educating your viewers without talking down or making it seem like you know everything. Second, I am so glad that you mentioned the windshield. I went to a dealership to trade in my 2018 Explorer Platinum and the windshield was cracked all the way across it. My husband told me that it was not that big of a deal. I told him the dealership would knock me substantially for it. I showed him this video (he loves watching you as well) and he said “well if Kelly says we need to consider replacing it, we need to do it.” Apparently he values your opinion more than mine… 😁 We got the windshield replaced @ $425 dollars and took it back to the same dealership and the value of my trade went up $1800 dollars. So again, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. Oh, thanks to your wonderful video on the KIA Telluride, that is what we ended up getting. I absolutely love it. We do not have kids, but we have 3 large dogs and it was the only SUV that had a high enough cargo/3rd row area for them. My 3 Great Danes love the space. I never would have considered a KIA if you had not did your video. We were looking at a Tahoo High Country, but for the price, we were shocked with what you DID not get. We got a KIA Telluride SX Prestige with the tow package. Got an amazing warranty plus window sunshades……. Still saved around 30k on the price difference. Plus, KIA has one of the best warranties out there so got that as well. Thank you again. You are the BIZOMB…………….

    I agree with almost everything except telling the dealer out of the gate about your intention to trade in a vehicle and the advice on not replacing the tires before you get your car appraised.
    First, the trade in topic:
    The reason the advice is to not share this with the dealer is valid even today is because dealers will try to convince you that you only have to worry about the final price and nothing else matters. So if my goal is to achieve a $500 car payment, I'm good. But then you find out that your $24,000 car will now cost you $42,000 because your financing is over 84 months, but hey, you have that $500 payment you wanted, right?
    Dealers will 4 square you to death using the trade as another variable to confuse and manipulate you. It is always best to negotiate your best deal on the car you are looking to buy. Using your research of actual MSRP, avoiding the add ins (ADM which is just money in the dealers pocket), Appearance Protection (sold to you at a significant mark up), VIN Etching on your glass (Also sold to you at a considerable markup), pre paying maintenance or scheduled service, dealer installed accessories and features (also done at a considerable markup) you will know confidently that you have arrived at the deal that is fair. Then you can have the dealer appraise your trade in to ensure that you are receiving a fair price and then you can just adjust the numbers of the original deal accordingly. These are two separate transactions essentially. You are selling the dealer your car, and you are buying their car. Anyone trying to say that it doesn't matter and that only the final number that matters is trying to ensure that they can leverage the variables in their favor.
    In addition, there are a number of reasons why you may not know exactly at the time when you first stop in and look at your potential new car:
    1) You may want to do a private sale on your car which could potentially earn you more money on the sale of your car*
    *check in your state to see if your trade in reduces your tax liability on the car you are buying as you need to make sure that the additional money you make isn't negated by higher taxes on the buying of the new car side.
    2) You may have a child at home who is getting close to driving age and are considering hanging on to the car for them to learn/use once they get your license.
    Now for the Tires:
    If you have tires that are worn beyond the wear indicator, you should really replace the tires even if you are planning on trading the car in/selling. If you replace the tires with new, original equipment tires (as in the vehicle came with Pirelli P600 tires from the factory, and I'm putting brand new Pirelli P600 tires in the original equipment size) you may actually end up ahead.
    When the dealer appraises your car, they are looking for virtually anything to nitpick and justify a lower than fair offer. "Oh, see how your tires are worn unevenly? that means that your ball joints are worn out so we'll have to replace the tires, and replace half of the suspension and do a 4 wheel alignment, etc. However, if you choose not to replace your tires first, make sure you do your homework and price out what an original equipment set mounted and balanced will run so when the dealer says they are taking a deduction, you know whether or not the deduction is fair.
    Aside from those two points, I'm good with everything else that was shared.
    I especially love the honest car reviews. You absolutely capture/notice/speak to things others miss.

    I'm taking my trade in to get detailed for sure. It's $150. I almost bought like 3 new suvs I saw online but the reason why I didn't go for it even though it was a good deal, the car looked dirty. Dusty. You know, little things that can actually be vacuumed or wiped down. What does that say about the dealership!? Lol couldn't even clean the car you're trying to sell to make it look presentable? Well they lost a customer because of that. I always clean my car myself but this time I think its definitely worth getting it detailed. Specially if your vehicle is in good condition! It'll look brand new ✨️ I have also replaced a windshield 3 times in my past before.. don't ask why. It's not expensive at all. I paid like $120. It was done fast too! I wouldn't sell my car with a broken windshield.

    Hi! So glad somebody suggested your channel! I have #4 on the way, so I have to trade in my Kia Optima, which I love. I’ve only had the car for 6 months, but I don’t plan on trading it in until closer the my due date. Will that look bad since I haven’t had the car long? Also, my front bumper is cracked on one side. Should I get that fixed? Your tips in this video were very helpful. I plan to utilize them. Thank you so much!

    Does the dealer in which you're trading in the car affect the appraisal you'd receive on your trade? For example, say you're trading in a Nissan sedan at either a mainstream dealer like Ford versus a luxury dealer like Audi. Would the Ford dealer give you a higher appraisal just because it'd be easier for them to sell your car to their typical customers?

  • @laurac9320
    @laurac9320 3 роки тому

    Would you recommend getting all recalls fixed before trading in?

    • @andrewjames2808
      @andrewjames2808 3 роки тому

      Yes they’re free and dealers know if they’ve been done or not. They also don’t know how long those recalls take/ if there’s parts for it readily available for it if the trade in is another brand or not and reputable dealers won’t sell a car that’s not safe/ready so they will cover their own butts and knock you on your trade just in case for example that recall means the car has to sit for a long time before selling (dealers pay interest on any car on the lot once it’s been there over 30 days)

    im still not agreeing with negotiating a trade-in and not knowing the purchase price of the new vehicle.... that new vehicle price needs to be known and then we can talk about trade-in value..... if anything act like you are taking their first offered purchase price so at least you have a max number.... then if their trade-in number is too low.... then try and lower that first offered purchase price...well, if you want to give me this low of a trade-in then perhaps we lower the purchase price by $600 ..... and if you dont like the price of anything.... walk-out ..... your time is not wasted as its all education for you ..... their time is wasted the moment you buy somewhere else.....

    How about dos and dont of prepping your video! for example don't hold the clip on microphone up to your mouth the whole time. Makes you look like a total amateur and people will not take you seriously. One important piece of advice if you are planing to trade your car in attempt to sell it on the open market first you can normally gets several thousand more dollars depending on how nice your car is because dealerships will never give you the full market value. And these days (2021) used cars are more valuable than in the past because of shortages so you can really take advantage of maximizing your sales price of your used car. Many used cars are going as high as 50% over bluebook value.
