      he cant say otherwise. On clay maybe with some rare occasion Nadal could beat Federer in straight sets forever. So he basically figured him out, but with Djokovic on any surface Nadal was unsure of the victory. So I can see his logic. And nobody is arguing that Federer's top tennis is beyond godlike, but tennis isnt only about flashy winners 24/7. Good players know this and downplay those agressive "superstars"

    He's entitled to his opinion of course, but he and his nephew keep coming across like they have some personal beef with Djokovic. It doesn't seem too graceful to come out with the injury stuff with Nadal every single interview and make it seem like Djokovic didn't go through body (and mind) problems himself. He lost two years from mid 2016-mid 2018 to physical and motivational problems and his early career was also marred until he changed his diet and mindset. Djokovic didn't reach all that he could have either. Add to this that even with injuries considered, Nadal's record outside of clay really pales in comparison to Djokovic's 2011-2023 overall domination.

      He acts as if injuries are not an integral part of the sport, but some kind of cosmic force acting on the players. If you push your body beyond its limits to achieve better results, you also risk an injury. You are subject to risk at a higher percentage than the rest of the players. Novak is known for his special way of fitness, diet, and mentality when it comes to tennis. And he, just like Nadal, could have forced every shot, run like a raging bull at every drop shot, but he didn't, and thus he was less injured. This kind of argument that Toni makes reminds me of a similar reasoning that justifies losers in combat sports, like, "If he didn't get tired in the 6th round, he wouldn't get knocked out." Yes, but that's a losing fighter's strategy. He went hard in the early rounds, failed to knock out his opponent, gassed out early, and lost. The same case with Nadal in tennis, if your approach is such that you go 100% on every ball, you will either get tired or you will get injured.

    Rafa had injuries when he had to play Wimbledon and USO, but almost never on clay, where he won
    14 GS titles, compared to 8 GS titles at the other three Major tournaments ( AO,WMBLDN,USO).
    It is also hard to justify seven consecutive FINALS losses to Djokovic in 2011clay season to 2012 AO.
    If Rafa was " injured" he would not be in the finals of all those tournaments.

      There's no doubt that Rafa prioritizes the clay season ahead of schedule. Spanish players have long seen the French Open as their "Wimbledon". Clay courts have always been the healthiest courts to play tennis on. It is most gentle on the knees and legs.

    • @familygonzcartwright
      @familygonzcartwright 9 днів тому

      Could he not have planned his recovery from injuries early in the season to reach clay in peak form considering he knew it's where he's more comfortable? The same could be said of Murray who suffered many injuries but always seemed to be available for Wimbledon. Don't you think trainers of every player want to maximize their player's chances to win and plan the seasons accordingly with multiple contingency plans for what would they do if the player got injured at any given point in the season?
      Plus, youncan look at Nadal's own comments this year. He wanted to play a full season, for injured at the start and knowing he wanted ro be at the Olympics he planned his recovery to not force before and just be ready when the Olympics came. Everyone does that. Some people say Novak didn't win anything big except thw Olympic gold this year precisely because he planned to be fully healthy and rested in July/August. Every tennis player sets goals for the season and plans for every possible situation to try to have the beat season possible under any circumstances. It's called professional sports.
      And this has nothing to do with who is the GOAT or isn't. It's just about how conspiranoic the "how comes Nadal wasn't injured in clay sounds?", which btw is not true because if he had never been injured and had always been in peak for by the clay season, not counting when he lost in Roland Garros in the final, he still would've won more than 14 since, with a career so long, and having been beaten in a Roland Garros final less than 5 times, he should've been closer to 20 titles if he always was healthy and only was beaten in the final when the opponent was better than him.

However, I can understand if people think Marian is the greatest.

    Novak is the 🐐. No debate. Federer and Nadal are naturally talented and geniuses in their own right. For all the praises that Federer or Nadal get for their contribution to tennis, I would argue that Novak leaves behind a better and worthwhile legacy than the other two. Why so? Well, simply put model of tennis that Fedal represent is simply not replicable. There can only be one Federer and one Nadal, that's it. However, Novak's model of tennis is not like that. It's perfectly replicable and leaves behind a fantastic legacy for all those aspiring young players for generations to come. It's a model built on a very low base of natural talent and rest all acquired skills through sheer hardwork, passion and grit. Hence it's replicable as well. If one observes closely, whenever fedal lost, it's because the opponents discovered and exploited their weaknesses (eg. backhand, mental toughness). When it comes to Novak, it has never been the case of an exploited weakness. It was simply a case of Novak being a human afterall and couldn't deliver machine-like results day in day out. There was never a weakness worthy of exploitation. The GOAT Novak is as complete a player as one can get and the sport of tennis has never seen anyone like him before. So, think of the perfectly replicable bulletproof tennis model that Novak leaves behind as his legacy, backed up by the GOAT stats. No one like him. Period.😊

    Djokovic also had a period with an injury, that wasn't so short. He got injured in 2017 and didn't play for some time, then had to come back. He also wasn't in top form at the beginning of 2018, partially because of the injuries he suffered. So it's not like Nadal is the only one to have injuries.

  • @eddiemercury5106
    @eddiemercury5106 3 дні тому +1

    As for the numerous-injuries excuse, both Nadal and Federer had played more tournaments & matches than Djokovic to reach the slam no.20/21/22 , hence, Tio Tony is basically saying that if Nadal had played considerably more slams & big tournaments than Djokovic (as Federer had actually played) he would've won more Slams, although probably not WTF & Masters as well (Djokovic has amassed 7 WTF + 40 Masters, Nadal 0 WTF + 36 Masters).
    Counting since their first GS Semifinal (when they actually became the slam contenders):
    Federer had entered 65 slams for his slam no.20.
    Djokovic 61 slam for his slam no.23, 63 slams for the slam no.24.
    Nadal 62 slams for his slam no.22.
    Federer had amassed 1385 matches by his slam title no.20.
    Nadal 1265 matches by his slam no.22.
    Djokovic 1262 matches by his slam no.23.
    Also, unlike Djokovic who played and lost many big clay matches against Nadal, Nadal had skipped many big HC tournaments in order to stay fresh & fit for the clay season.

    The fact is that his nephew was mostly injured outside clay. Nadal has played in all French open except 2016 in which he withdrew from second round and 2023. Novak on the other hand hasn't missed playing a single French open throughout his career, in what is his weakest surface.

      @@initialize21 Somebody cannot bevome GOAT just because Sinner says it. LoL 😂😂 And Sinner also added that it was only his personal opinion. That you need the corroboration of a D0per to herald Frauderer as GOAT is frivolous.
      Then why don't you accept the views of Sampras, Agassi, Becker, Mcenroe, Connors, Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova and even Nadal who have unequivocally said that Novak is the GOAT because you cannot contest numbers.?? Lol 😂😂😂
      Sinner is clearly perturbed that Novak didn't support him when caught d0p1ng. LoL 🤣 🤣
      It is Stats along which determine who the GOAT is, the rest are distractions and not in sync with its definition.

    For those who say injury is part of the game, I would say you are wrong. Do you think that Rafa doesn't pay attention to recovery, diet, muscle workout? No, of course. But genetics and luck are also important factors relatively to injuries. Rafa has been suffering from his ankle pain since 2006, imagine my friend.

    Federer played better on court than the other 2, titles and records aside.. who was in most of fans' hearts over the years? Federer. Just look at those 2 decade long fan's favourite awards. (Thats definitely one record Djoko can't beat - sorry! Had to say it) And to put the cherry on top... He was #9 on Forbes' top 10 most paid athletes in 2023!!! On a year where he only played 1 tournament - his own! Guys say what you about Djokovic and Nadal. Djoko might be a horned mammal that makes dairy, Roger is the crowned king👑
    Now Dr. Federer by the way.
    Just look at Toni's face when he says who played better 🤯

    It's really sad that Djokovic fans seek acknowledgement even after he's won the most gs titles. They just wait for videos like this and latch on to the comments section 😂

    I agree with Toni's take on this. Djokovic is only the best if you look at titles. However it is quite clear that Federer acheived a peak level of play that was never surpassed by anyone. Peak Federer beats anyone in history, and that's why he is by definition the greatest ever.
