    This works out great for me. Next April 2020 I start getting my disability from the Military. And I am planning on buying either a Mustang GT or a Camaro SS. Been planning on this for 3 years now. LT1 Camaro here I come. Thanks GM. I'm 42 years old, 14 years in the US Navy. Married, two kids in college. I work full time. Looking forward to buying a car I want not just what I need. Finally . LT1 such a great idea.

    The LT1 (LT1 is the engine) has the SS performance suspension. Brembo up front. Extra cooling capacity for oil, and coolant. (may be required for the LT1 engine) 40 series tires on 20 " wheels, All standard on the LT1 The 6v and I4 trim levels do not come standard with.

    I bought a 2019 lt v6 RS 3 months ago but I have equity in it. I don't drive it alot so the mileage will be low. Def considering a trade up to the LT1 bc the after market products available for the V8 GM motor way surpass what's available for the V6. I think the LT1 will be immensely popular among current V6 owners.

      @@coniccinoc Truth is that it's a highly underated machine. I live in the bay area and there really isn't even enough space to really test the V6 for more than a few seconds at a time, let alone a V8. It's fast and responsive. I am growing my skills to match the V6 RS capabilities before I buy a LT1 or SS but I suppose the story would be the same had I jumped into the SS. I would still have to grow into it. These cars out perform the skill of most drivers. V6 included.

    I’m all for the idea of a “cheaper” V8. But I think it should have been a 5.3 (or 5.7 like the 4th gen Z28) with 395-405 hp. That way it separates each model from one another. What makes the SS unique except the badging now? Why buy a 1SS, if you can just get a LT1? Hell, it might have been smarter to call it a Z28 for marketing. Maybe would have sold more.

    • @jakelee5456
      @jakelee5456 5 років тому

      This LT1 model is designed for someone who doesn't care as much for handling and appearance as much as just having V8 power and a great cruiser. The 1SS and 2SS are better-handling cars with more panache and standard features. 1LEs are factory track rats.
      The other group I think will like this LT1 are the hot rodders that are going to modify or replace all of the chassis upgrades the SS has standard; so it'll be a bit of a blank canvas V8 car.

    • @CXC300
      @CXC300 5 років тому

      Jacob Lee I get where you’re coming from with your statement. I still would have liked it to be named “Z28” for sells, tradition, and fun. I guess Camaro feels if they have a “Z” in the generation they’ve met the standard. Haha...

    I think this is a great move by GM - reasonably good-looking Camaro with the V8 it deserves but a price tag that will appeal to people like me who don't have $50K to throw around... but may be able to scrape together $35K to make a dream come true. I had the privilege of driving the 2019 SS convertible around Houston (rental) and although it was an awesome experience I kept thinking to myself amidst the big console screen and heads-up display, "I would have been happy with just the V8 - I don't need the distractions" - hopefully this car will bring the pure joy of driving a mean old lumpy V8 back to the GM faithful. I'm excited

    Gonna be an unpopular opinion, but I think it's a beautiful car. The grill doesn't look droopy at all and thr headlights are perfect. The headlights from the ls camaros look perfect, the ugly headlights are on the rs and as, which have an extended drl portion that extends into the grill making them look too close together. The front of the new ss isn't bad either, I just wish they got rid of those stupid headlights.

    They’re hindered by how much they can strip out of these cars by what is required by federal law, back up cameras, brakes that can stop in a certain distance, etc... and the power windows, doors, & seats are probably retained because they don’t want to make a bunch of manually operated parts for one car. What gm should do is go back to the ala-carte method of ordering your Camaro the way they did back in the 60’s. Using these packages limits people who would otherwise just get the V8 and nothing else other than what was required by law

  • @tstevens90

    Not a Camaro expert so forgive any wrong facts, but this made me wonder if Chevy could be looking back on the early years as basis for the lineup. Didn't early SS models come with both small block and big block engines? Big blocks leaned toward drag racing and the small blocks were to qualify/compete in Trans Am racing with higher reving engines and better handling? With two size V8s they might eliminate the V6 or turbo 4? Competition may be requiring the smaller engines to step up in performance and Chevy thinks to save money by sharing the same block as the SS in the lesser model? Lastly, I recall 3rd gen RS being available with the lesser 305 V8?

    So many Camaro options. They should call this new LT1 just a Camaro. So you have the I4, V6, this new one “regular camaro”, SS and ZL1. Any should be able to have the 1LE package since I guess it’s mostly aero stuff/track stuff? Would be great with the same SS 6 speed manual trans or 8/10 speed auto, and cheaper...just a normal stereo and limited options, to keep it cheap. Will be interesting for sure

I'm wondering if you could get the RS package with this. Also, is the 1le option already have RS package elements in it or is it a separate package where you have to order the 1le and RS appearance package separately?

Not any more but with the 2017 Mustang you could get a base V8 for around $30k flat after discounts. A car that had base brakes, 18" wheels and base interior. Back in 1996-2002 you could get a Z28 for $22k BEFORE discounts. It didn't have the cool hood, wheels, grill, spoiler, ect but was a SUPERIOR car for the money. If the LT1 can be had for less than $30k after discounts. I will get one for the wife to go in the garage next to my 2019 5.0.

    American cars all sell for under MSRP as a carry-over from the employee pricing campaign from the 2000s. Car brands that offered former employees lifetime discounts found a loophole where they could just mark up MSRP 15% to negate their promise to their employees. If you pay full MSRP on a car it had better not be an American car.

    @Lethal garage do you think it would be cheaper and it would sell more if they offered the 5.3 in it? The current 5.3 does make about 355 horses

      The new Camaros (2019) already offer 4 different motors, I don't think another motor would help. What modern car comes with 5 different engine options?

  • @gordonkelley4317

    It's cool that you have a second generation camaro. GM built the 70 camaro to compete against the mustang. If they gave different front end and different motor options like they did in 1970 they might have better sales

    That's the point of a BLUE COLLAR HOTROD! The important part is you get the same drive train as the SS with just adequate brakes and suspension like Dodge has done with the standard Scat Pack vehicle's, just give me the POWER PLANT! Who cares about all the other bells and whistles!! Getting a great performance car at a good price point is what it's all about. IF YOU CAN TURN A WRENCH, DON'T MIND GETTING DIRTY AND ARE WILLING TO PUT IN THE WORK, you can make the car into what you want! THAT'S WHAT BLUE COLLAR PERFORMANCE IS ALL ABOUT. Leave all the unnecessary stuff for people who have money to waste.

    They had to do this bc camaro sales are slaughtered by mustang and challenger...basically the market competition forced this move. Regardless, I love it and will probably reward GM by cashing in myself...or I might hold off for a 2019 1SS 1LE after the 2020 refresh bc I bet prices are gonna get slashed once the 2020s hit dealer lots.

    Chevy & ford are pony cars. Dodge still carry that muscle heritage heavy as a boat with a big ass engine. I believe that LT1 camaro will be a hit for the people like me that can’t afford the fully loaded SS’s. My prediction is that the interior will be basic, breaks will be made by the same company but just a regular non quality breaks, then we’ll get the shitty basic tires that we will have to replace to buy a good grip tires of course & a basic exhaust that we will have to change if we wanna hear that monster sound. The suspension will probably be different than the SS that’s my guess. I’m excited ! I’m driving a 2013 RS i’m still paying on it though ! I should be done with my car note before they release the new LT1 or during the release. I’m excited because IDC about the fully loaded trims I just want a Camaro with a V8 under the hood & that New LT1 will be everybody’s dream on just wanting a Camaro with a V8 under the hood with no fancy trims. If you care about fully loaded with fancy trims & great suspensions then the LT1 isn’t for you but if you just want a Camaro with a V8 under the hood with no fancy trims so you don’t gotta pay extra for it then the LT1 is what you want. The price will be 34-35k if they can get it to 30-32K that would be insane.

    I think that’s a badass option to have available! Didn’t even know about it but that’s been my complaint since this new generation of domestic performance cars began, there’s too much junk in these cars making them too heavy to perform to their potential and too expensive to be bought by the average consumer. Consider that a new SS costs close to what the average American household’s income is is stupid and begging the model to fail... AGAIN. Now consider that it’s usually younger single males who are the target market cut that income roughly in half and even a basic SS model well exceeds that average individual’s yearly income. We need this car. It’s the one I would buy in a heartbeat.

      I agree, something around 375hp, low frills, nice rumble as a starting point for further aftermarket upgrades. There’s a lot of room between the turbo 4/V6 power levels & the SS, seems like a sweet spot for an entry-level V8.

    Let me just say if you are anywhere near the DMV area get your "muscle cars" there. I live in Pittsburgh PA and the same vehicles they have in my city are $6,000 - $10,000 cheaper and the cars here are already $3,000 under MSRP. I counting on the new LT1 to be about $29,000 - $31,000 range and I'm going to get mine down there early next year.

    To me this model camaro is what the firebird formula was to the trans am. A wolf in sheep's clothing! Looks like a v6, but it's got a secret under the hood. I'm buying this version and removing the lt1 badging. Keeps the other v8 street racers from harassing you thinking it's a v6. Thats what i miss most about my 2001 firebird formula.
