Rattrap- Y'know it really sucks being called pessimistic all the time! I haven't had a new toy in years! Huffer- You want pessimism? I'm considered the Eyor of this franchise! Deadend: Face it...were doomed!
At least Rattrap was a capable bot that was also a capable fighter, even had confidence in his skills as an infiltrator, sharpshooter and demolition expert. Huffer just comes off as only good for moping.
I appreciate that the G1 writers incorporated so many unique personalities into the characters we grew up watching. The show would be dull if everyone had the same ideology about things. The autobots and decepticons were both able to overcome (for the most part....looking at you, starscream) individual idiosyncrasies and work towards a common goal. Life lessons on display here, folks. Imagine a world, cybertronian or otherwise, where there were no decepticons to fight and bots like Huffer, Hoist, Grapple, and even *coughs* Wheeljack were able to use their expertise to create and build unabated.
It's one of the many things the creators of the G1 cartoon and comics don't get enough credit for. They turned toys into CHARACTERS and made us care about them. Their ups and downs, good and bad. Huffer especially.
The best mini autobot,10/10 design-10/10 character-10/100 truck mod,i really like huffer especially his wfc kingdom figure,we need legacy huffer rn hasbro
Poor Huffer gets no respect. I met John Stephenson at Botcon years ago and I mentioned Huffer was one of my favorites, but he was the only one of John’s G1 characters he couldn’t remember. At the same con I bought some Dan Khanna artwork which had all of Stephenson’s characters…but he forgot to add Huffer (which Dan admitted later). I’m so glad he finally got a proper updated toy in the Kingdom line.
Huffer was my first ever Transformer back on Christmas Day 1984, and reading that he was hard-boiled, he instantly became my favourite. I still have that same figure. The later episodes of the TV series weren't broadcast over here, so it was years later that I discovered they'd killed him off, (although we do see that duplicate Huffer in one episode). Luckily, he returned in 2004 as a GoBot! I was fortunate enough to buy the e-hobby G1 GoBots set at the time, Road Ranger being my favourite of the bunch.
My theory on the duplicate Huffer is that it was actually Pipes using the wrong animation model. Same with Outback instead of Brawn, and the Constructicon was probably Hauler.
I thought maybe DARK AWAKENING was a script error, listing Huffer's name instead of Brawn's. When GoBots was released on DVD, I rewatched every episode to brush-up on my Road Ranger knowledge. I'm glad GoBots and Transformers merged in the end; We still get a G1 Huffer, albeit a cool, black GoBot one!
Best line: "I'm not the BIGGEST Autobot, but I'm one of the STRONGEST!" I don't know why I like Huffer so much. Why I like that whiny voice of his that brings both bad news and the room down. I find it hysterical and even comforting to know his pessimism is always there. Because BEHIND that pessimism is a loyal bot who'll fight on despite the odds... or himself! Check out the Retailer Incentive cover for TF: Regeneration One #92 for what I believe is the ONLY cover in history that spotlights Huffer (kayoing the Pretender Beast, Snarler).
Huffer and Pipes as Cybertronian Mario and Luigi?! I don't remember seeing them at the time, but that's AWESOME!! Easily one of the best redesigns in TFA
Nothing better than a cup of Coffee and a RP retrospective. Huffer and Brawn are my two favorite minibot strongmen from G1. Reliable albeit cranky describes Huffer to a fault. Happy to have the Kingdom and now FT versions of this lil guy. 🙏🏾
Great video on one of my favorite Transformers! I had Huffer growing up & thought he was a cool little vehicle, I always like the mini-bots & had a bunch of them. one thing I never understood was why Huffer (or Pipes) wasn't given his own trailer to pull like Optimus, since they were both cabs? Characters like Huffer, Mirage, & Gears, seem to resemble the "everyman" autobot soldier, confused and uncertain about the war they were caught up in & cause they were fighting for, but loyal nonetheless. On a un-related note, I always wondered why Brawn & Outback were treated so differently. Brawn's toy representation (G1) was terrible barely having a face or hands (more like hooks) & no accessories, while Outback was given a detailed face, hands, & blaster. I've always been curious as to what happened with the two of them; maybe a retrospective on Brawn/Outback? That would be great!
Huffer was one of the first G1 toy I had, alongside bumblebee and Brawn. Great little figure. Never liked the character in G1 cartoon, but know that I'm older and I've live a little, I warmed up to the guy. Also having a great toy in WFC helped a bit. Great retrospective, I think you did him honors. Great work as usual, you're the best for a reason.
I loved the Dragonball Z refrence because I never knew about the character Puffer until now & I liked how you compared Huffer's complaining to RatTrap. I also agree with you that his pessimism is what caused him from having any future roles in any transformer series. One thing I liked about Huffer was how he carried Optimus' trailer back to the base in Heavy Metal War after Optimus was damaged from his one on one battle with Meagatron.
Like other Transformers, I always enjoyed Huffers unique personality and how it added to the story telling. It was funny how Autobots like him, Gears, and Brawn could toss around much bigger Decepticons!
Agreed. One of the things Budiansky set out to do with the toys was turn them into characters. The fact these minobots could take on a Decepticon is a testament to that.
This is the one I've been waiting for. I still have my Original 1983 Huffer pessimistically protecting my computer monitor along with Brawn & Seaspray to this day. Excellent work as always, Rodimus.
Huffer is memorable, but I have much more love for Pipes, since I had that toy as a Kid and I still have him. I liked how pipes led the minibots on one episode. I remember the video from "The Lazy Eyebrow" , for Mechanics studio "Engineer". I love the whiny incarnation of Huffer he put there. That led me to buy that figure, which I think is much more G1 Accurate than the Kingdom one. I also have the kindgom one... And the Amazon 2 pack... Did I mentioned I love the Pipes mold?
Huffer definitely deserves a "spotlight" episode of his own on the G1 Transformers cartoon show... perhaps a story of how he tries to "run away" from earth to go back home to Cyberton even though Cyberton is pretty much almost completely wrecked from the last 4 millions years war.
Similar to Kup and Tracks Huffer was just an Autobot I just knew and liked, when his Kingdom toy came out I jumped onto the opportunity to buy him. If I come across Pipes I might get him also?
I didn't know much about huffer before, but after watching the video he actually seems like an interesting guy. Kinda want a Super Autobot Bros show now though
I hope that atleast pipes gets some attention since I really enjoy his toy and design And it would be nice to have a show with puffer as the main or at least a character Maybe even gears or swerve
Huffer always reminded me as a cross between a “yard dog” (a small single axle tractor trailer that moves trailers around a large terminal lot) and a grocery hauler ( a slightly larger often double axle semi with no bunk space often used for short distance (same day) hauling of trailers. I would love to see a Huffer (or a quintet with PUffer , Pipes , and that Road guy) made from the more modern yard dogs with their single seat cab one enters through a sliding door in the back
Another awesome video. G1 is spectacular for a lot of reasons and the variety of characters is one of them. The Autobots had Gears and Huffer on the same team, while also dealing with the Dinobots and Mirage. Talk about a varied group of personalities, wow. Keep up the great work.
Ok, I did not expect that presentation for Puffer. But when fusions are involved, why not have them do the dance. In fact, why not make that an ability of them, voluntarily fusing into Puffer? There's an idea!
Huffer may not be an Autobot that has a positive attitude, but he definitely has stand-out moments in the first two seasons. Towing Optimus’ trailer for him, taking care of a wooly mammoth with ease, and just being all around hilarious. John Stephenson made Huffer a "funny guy," and by god I thank him for that.
7:35 i got that g1 mini autobot set and still have it. Although huffer broke. My second g1 autobots. First was the commemorative powermaster optimus prime with apex armor
Huffer may never have been overly popular or at the forefront...but he was the very first Transformer I owned as a child in the summer of '84. And he'll always have a soft spot in my heart just for that. :)
The Animated take is interesting, because maybe it was crashing landing on earth that turned him into a pessimist if the continuities were combined. He may have been a pessimist in G1 (he was), but I'll always remember in "Divide and Conquer", when Optimus Prime is considered "near death" and Spike steals an autobots gun to shame them into battle, when Sparkplug says to Spike he can't battle the decepticons, Huffer chimes in with, "But WE can! We got your message Spike!"
Huffer is the only tranformer I keep. It matched the Rig my grandfather drove for decades. My grandmother even cut out the tiny answer key numbers from a cross word and glued them to Huffer. Those were good times
So in other word Huffer is like every depressed person that hates their life LOL I don't know why, but when i got the kingdom huffer I instantly fell in love with it, Maybe because he's an obscured character.
LOL thank you so much for your Channel, and I as well in my Pisces so my class is always half-empty. Look up the dictionary term for pessimist and you shall and will see a picture of me right beside it. Once again thank you so much for this channel
I always liked Huffer. He was one of the most realistic personalities, and I wish he got more screentime. I hope newer iterations show him love. By the way, his shattered glass counterpart is cheerful.
Huffer was way ahead of this time, now in 2022 he would fit right in with the rest of us
meanwhile in 2024:
*pained screeching*
😅😅😅😅😅😅 this ridiculous kid.
Rattrap- Y'know it really sucks being called pessimistic all the time! I haven't had a new toy in years!
Huffer- You want pessimism? I'm considered the Eyor of this franchise!
Deadend: Face it...were doomed!
Daniel & the others season 3 walked right by Huffer’s marker ship as big as aircraft carrier 🔥🔥🔥
At least Rattrap was a capable bot that was also a capable fighter, even had confidence in his skills as an infiltrator, sharpshooter and demolition expert.
Huffer just comes off as only good for moping.
"Hmm, Dinobots, huh? I thought you were supposed to make dinosaurs" - Huffer 1984
I'm glad Huffer is still remembered, in spite of his pessimism.
Huffer will always be remembered for saying “But we’re not fighters like they are Prime!” XD!
I like how all the Autobots had distinctive personalities
I appreciate that the G1 writers incorporated so many unique personalities into the characters we grew up watching. The show would be dull if everyone had the same ideology about things. The autobots and decepticons were both able to overcome (for the most part....looking at you, starscream) individual idiosyncrasies and work towards a common goal. For some reason Huffer seems very hatable for how you describe them.
And Rattrap does the pessimism job better.
The best mini autobot,10/10 design-10/10 character-10/100 truck mod,i really like huffer especially his wfc kingdom figure,we need legacy huffer rn hasbro

Huffer and Pipes : Fusion Ha!
Puffer : I am neither Huffer nor Pipes I am Puffer.
I hear he says that he finds Huffer very relatable.
Huffer was the voice of reason. They were all doomed right from the start.
Once a Dino klutz alsway a Dino klutz
😂
Huffer was my first ever Transformer back on Christmas Day 1984, and reading that he was hard-boiled, he instantly became my favourite. I still have that same figure. He and several of the smaller Autobots like Cosmos and Gears deserve more love.
I bet even if he was back on Cybertron, Huffer would still be in a bad mood and complain about everything lol
"How come there's no energon around here?!"
Huffer and Pipes as Cybertronian Mario and Luigi?! I don't remember seeing them at the time, but that's AWESOME!! Easily one of the best redesigns in TFA
"Once a dino klutz always a dino klutz" Huffer. Also he was not wrong.
What surprised me is the fact that he didn't get a appearance in Rescue Bots. I could easily imagine him annoying Steve Blum with his bitterness. 😆
When I saw that Peanuts comic strip at the beginning, I got hit with a happy feeling in my heart as I remember watching Peanuts as a kid.
Finally a video on one of my top 3 favorite transformers of all time. Huffer never gets the good positive attention he deserves.
Huffer; "I just knew this retrospect woild get less views and likes than all the others.
Thanks for noticing."
I got one for Christmas!
Lmao! So true.
Huffer was a great character. That Transformers comic with Bomber Bill is still one of my favorites.
"I will never work. Big waste of time." Immediately shows picture of Rodimus Prime 😂
...
Rodimus is his fav character.
I dunno if he can handle such slander
I like to imagine the other Autobots put Huffer in time-out a lot.
Nothing better than a cup of Coffee and a RP retrospective. Huffer and Brawn are my two favorite minibot strongmen from G1. Reliable albeit cranky describes Huffer to a fault. Happy to have the Kingdom and now FT versions of this lil guy. 🙏🏾

Huffer was my first transformer, so will always have s special place in my heart. Thanks for doing this video!
One of my favorite Transformers who inspire my work ethic, I'll do my job but I'll complain the whole time because I love to complain
Huffer was one of the first G1 toy I had, alongside bumblebee and Brawn. Great little figure. Never liked the character in G1 cartoon, but know that I'm older and I've live a little, I warmed up to the guy. Also having a great toy in WFC helped a bit. Huffer's lucky he's not on current Earth. If he knew how current humans are acting he'd just give up on all things.
Ha ur right!!!👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Dead End would be giving up the same!
I loved the Dragonball Z refrence because I never knew about the character Puffer until now & I liked how you compared Huffer's complaining to RatTrap. One thing I liked about Huffer was how he carried Optimus' trailer back to the base in Heavy Metal War after Optimus was damaged from his one on one battle with Meagatron.
I didn’t really like huffer that much but this video has given me some new appreciation for the character
Huffer, one of my favorites, "you're a true friend Huffer"
Like other Transformers, I always enjoyed Huffers unique personality and how it added to the story telling. It was funny how Autobots like him, Gears, and Brawn could toss around much bigger Decepticons!

All I know is WFC huffer figure is fantastic, along with the Golden disk road ranger / puffer set. Great insight on the character Rodimus! 👍
My first Minibot, back in the day.
His hood eventually broke on one side. He was the first Transformer I ever disassembled in order to make a repair
Huffer is memorable, but I have much more love for Pipes, since I had that toy as a Kid and I still have him. I liked how pipes led the minibots on one episode. 0:00-0:22
Speaking of pessimism: Henry: I suffer dreadfully & No one cares!
The 3rd party Huffer figure released by Fans Toys recently is indeed a masterpiece!
I'll always have a soft spot for Huffer. He was my very first Transformers figure ever back in 84'.
Huffer was my first Transformer as a kid. Mum bought him for me at Newbery’s 5&10 in 1985.
Huffer has always been one of my favorite Transformers. I wish he had more character development.
Huff, Huff, Huff. Love this minibot
let's not forget Huffer was the only bot in the g1 cartoon series that I know of who pulled primes trailer!
“Superior geometrical abilities”
This isn’t a square. This is…ADVANCED SQUARE!
Huffer is totally cool Autobot as the engineer.
" Y'know what....im Huffer....Hooray...!"
I loved my Huffer toy so dearly as a kid.
He and Gears were sure great at complaining about things. XD
Huffer is my favorite character he my favorite minibot I think his complaining shows him that he's the best 😀😀👍👍
9:23 It’s a me , Huffer.
Love these character retrospectives! Great job Rodimus Primal!
Huffer definitely deserves a "spotlight" episode of his own on the G1 Transformers cartoon show... perhaps a story of how he tries to "run away" from earth to go back home to Cyberton even though Cyberton is pretty much almost completely wrecked from the last 4 millions years war.

I didn't know much about huffer before, but after watching the video he actually seems like an interesting guy. Kinda want a Super Autobot Bros show now though
For me, it should be called “Super Huffio Bros.”
Imagine if Huffer caught the matrix of leadership and became a prime. He will become Hufficus Prime
I hope that atleast pipes gets some attention since I really enjoy his toy and design
And it would be nice to have a show with puffer as the main or at least a character
Maybe even gears or swerve
#CantGetEnoughHuff . Fantastic look back on the character and toy. Thanks.
thank you for your craft… Transformers are the best
Huffer always reminded me as a cross between a “yard dog” (a small single axle tractor trailer that moves trailers around a large terminal lot) and a grocery hauler ( a slightly larger often double axle semi with no bunk space often used for short distance (same day) hauling of trailers.
I would love to see a Huffer (or a quintet with PUffer , Pipes , and that Road guy) made from the more modern yard dogs with their single seat cab one enters through a sliding door in the back
One of the few Transformers where Bob Budianski's tech spec bio truly coincided with the G1 show!!!! Definitely one of my favorite mini bots!!!
My favorite take on Huffer/Pipes is the Mario Bros homage from Animated. I hope we get to see more of that version of the characters in future media.
Thank you for this comprehensive retrospective!
Another awesome video. G1 is spectacular for a lot of reasons and the variety of characters is one of them. The Autobots had Gears and Huffer on the same team, while also dealing with the Dinobots and Mirage. Talk about a varied group of personalities, wow. Keep up the great work.

In fact, why not make that an ability of them, voluntarily fusing into Puffer? There's an idea!
"Ceiling ornament" - one of my relatives described this as "The autobots are hanging from the ceiling like sides of meat" XD
As far as I'm concerned, Huffer is the only who knows where Primes trailer goes when he transforms.
Prime's trailer-bearer, like a medieval armor- bearer.
"Huffer, take my trailer, and get lost."
"But Prime--"
"--I said, 'Get lost!'"
I love your retrospective videos! You always do such a great job on them.
Rattrap is a skilled marksman and demolition expert, but he is pessimistic. "I know,I know, Shut up, Rattrap."
Huffer was a great character
7:35 i got that g1 mini autobot set and still have it. Although huffer broke. My second g1 autobots. First was the commemorative powermaster optimus prime with apex armor
Great video. Was great to see all the toy variations of him
Huffer may never have been overly popular or at the forefront...but he was the very first Transformer I owned as a child in the summer of '84. And he'll always have a soft spot in my heart just for that. :)
Keep the good work
Huffer is my absolute favorite Siege toy so far.
Along with Astrotrain & Optimus.
Good review of Huffer love the latest version of him from the Kingdom line.
Rest in peace Huffer!!
Great retrospective. Rattrap does have some Huffer in him now that you mention it lol.
I wonder if Huffer was left out of the War For Cybertron Trilogy so he had something to complain about!
The next Huffer needs to sound like Peter Griffin; it may sound weird, but Dr. Smoov was onto something
Nnnnnnnno! Hyeah-eah-eah-eah!
“Hey Wheeljack, I bet dinosaurs had metal skin to hehehe!”
Great retrospective!!
Thanks! Till all are one!
So in other word Huffer is like every depressed person that hates their life LOL
I don't know why, but when i got the kingdom huffer I instantly fell in love with it, Maybe because he's an obscured character.
Love huffer one of my favorite ark boys with prowl
I missed Huffers complaints when I first watched season 3.
I actually admit I want to ask Frank Anngones to do a Ducktales book in the style of The Allspark Almanac.
LOL thank you so much for your Channel, and I as well in my Pisces so my class is always half-empty. Look up the dictionary term for pessimist and you shall and will see a picture of me right beside it. Once again thank you so much for this channel
At least huffer, was time that you put him , and we still need wincharger adn brawn!!
Another great episode. Thank you
Huffer was my favorite minibot
What a powerhouse autobot Huffer is, RodimusPrimal!
Huffer's one of the best, I like his pessimistic nature.
I always liked Huffer. He was one of the most realistic personalities, and I wish he got more screentime. I hope newer iterations show him love. By the way, his shattered glass counterpart is cheerful.
I think Huffer was a character that deserved better development and not be abandoned like he was.
0:06 Thank You For Adding The Screenshot Of Neon Genesis Evangelion!
There could have been so much more written in comic books about this character & his development. 😔
It's too bad that he don't have a spotlight episode. That way fans learn about Huffer than him complaining alot.
