Since the Mini-bots were the only figures sold in Brazil, many kids were surprised to find out that they were part of a much bigger group of robots when the G1 cartoon was aired here. Have to say that I do actually really like the idea of Bumblebee having a Decepticon lookalike rival called Wasp. I kinda hope that idea is explored in a future Transformers series, maybe having Wasp grow in to his own character separate from Waspinator.
Thats bugbite. Wasp is waspinator. We wont get him explored not being waspinator. Becuase when wasp debuted in transformers animated, he wanted to be like bumblebee and ends up getting mutated into waspinator.
Thank you for shedding more light on the Animated character Wasp. I've been all up and down social medias talking about him because he's my favorite character from that show. I REALLY hope he gets a recolor from Bumblebee soon because I REEEEALLY want him immortalized in toy form.
I remember Cyberverse had a quick joke about this as well. When Bumblebee was captured by the Quintessons he was trying to stall for time by just talking about random things. When the scene cuts in says, "So Hotrod tells me I should get a red paint job. But I tell him, then everyone will think I'm Cliffjumper!" But this is really a fascinating little snippet of Transformers history I didn't know. Chris can do such deep dives to find every little bit of history on any topic. And his presentation is so good, every video sounds like it is his favorite.
My favorite moment of the Minibots is when they faced Trypticon to defend the Ark. Despite being on the losing end, they show that they have courage bigger than their bodies.

Hubcap was one of my favourites as a child, but I was always disappointed that he had no fictional appearances. His bio was actually pretty interesting, making him morally ambiguous.

And I’ve made a bunch of alternate universes that merge his G1 bio and HFTD bio together, among other bios and my own reimagined personality for him, where he is kind of a shy, scared, overly caring Autobot, but if he has to, he will fight alongside his comrades to defend the rights of all sentient beings…even if it eats him up inside to be harming other beings! HOWEVER…He also is eager to try and enjoy himself and have fun on the urban drag strips of earth, and help do simple repairs, and toy around with his multi-frequency R/C powers to occasionally mess with various cybertronian and earth technology, but he also has difficulty knowing when enough is enough, which causes some unnecessary accidents. He’s always trying to keep himself balanced, but he often either slips into being too careful and cautious, or too hyper and reckless! Love the mini-bots, Bumblebee and Brawn were two of the first G1 toys I had as a kid back in the day (have em all now) and I loved them. My top 5 will always be Bumblebee, Cliffjumper, Cosmos, Powerglide and Pipes- I love those little guys-awesome toys and awesome characters.

Technically, Bumper HAS had a new figure, but you really have to jump through a few hurdles. In the World's Collide 4 Pack, there is a light yellow Bumblebee that turns into Cliffjumpers alt mode. It's more in line with the original Bumper toy and not the actual character, but it's something at least.

Windcharger and Brawn are my favorite of the mini bunch. I love their small interaction with Skyfire in that g1 episode. And Beachcomber is also my fav too, how could I ever forget that bittersweet ending in the Golden Lagoon episode
I loved how Animated re-used body types for background characters. That concept just meshes well with the factory planet origin presented by the Sunbow cartoon. Also I want a modern toy of Glyph really badly.
Great episode! With regards to "more Bumblebee recolors," I personally like to use the Studio Series NEST Offroad Bee as a separate (unofficial) character named "Hive." Haha, yes, I'm so clever.
2:00 I've only just noticed the jump cut on the commercial (not that I've previously studied this advert for any great lengths of time?) where the kid places down the yellow Cliff Jumper. I never had that figure new from out of the package, but... he wasn't standing up first go pal. 😀
To think some recolors of the same figure mold could have such a long complex story behind theme. Then again, it's Transformers we're talking about so it shouldn't be a surprise. Great video as always Chris! PS: i suggest talking about Thunderwing in a future episode.
I find it interesting how in the G1 cartoon, in multiple shots, and even in promotional art, Bumblebee and Cliffjumper are actually shown to be different heights, which is fitting considering what they transform into. And that's something I wish was represented in the toys more, as I see Cliff sort of as "Bumblebee's slightly older brother".
As someone who owns the hubcap toy its honestly not that bad of a recolor i find it more fun than bumblebee Ironically, because since he has no character of his own, you can do whatever you want with him For example he could be a decepticon spy or a heavy weapons specialist. Endless possibilities
Dreamwave came up with a profile for him in their "more than meets the eye" 8 issue series of chracter profile books.....he is a con artist,a swindler, takes credit for other bots work and achievments, will be nice and friendly to you but as soon as your back is turned he will stich you up to shift the blame for his failures on to you, is lazy, doesnt actually do anything useful to help the autobots war effort and is generally disliked by those who are forced to work along side him.
I used to have Mini-bots in my collection especially my fave Goldbug, Bumblebee's evolved form. But I also have invented recolored violet Bumblebee was Destron/Decepticon Dusk and Navy Blue Cosmos was called Milkyway. XD
Something that I don't think has been properly explored in TF media is the idea that the reason there are so many bots who share designs is because in the original cartoon they started out as servant robots mass-produced by the Quintessons before achieving free will and rebelling against their creators.
Great video! Thank you! Y'know, if HasTak would just follow the G1 pattern again (and not resort to partsforming), they could get so many sales out of the Mini-Bots and their recolours. They're on more or less the right path, but I think they need to do better on the Mini-Cars.
also we did get Choro-Q Transformers but are based on Optimus, Megatron, and Rodimus, then we have Q-Transformers which features characters turn into Chibi vehicles.
If you became curious about the G1 Gobots from this video, or the Basics video on Bug Bite himself, the other characters in the set besides the white Bumblebee recolor are: Powerglide recolored grey into the cocky, sarcastic Renegade thug Bad Boy. Cosmos recolored blue into the calm, rational female Guardian Path Finder. Huffer recolored black as the friendly Guardian Road Ranger. Gears recolored yellow as the naive idealistic Guardian Small Foot. Warpath recolored green as the Guardian in Decepticon clothing Treds. While Bug Bite has had more toys than any other Gobots character who crossed over into Transformers, the others, except for Bad Boy, would get new toys of their own, with Road Ranger in the Kingdom toyline in 2021, and Path Finder, Small Foot, and Treds as part of a Guardian multi-pack in the Generation Selects toyline.
I really hope Buzzworthy Bumblebee will do a bumblebee and cliffjumper recolor set so that we can get some of the missing bumblebee and cliffjumper retools and redecos like Rest Q, Glyph, Tap-out, and Bumper.
Missed opportunity to refer people to your Muffy and the Mysterians video (only a brief mention of the Mysterians line), still my favorite of all your videos.
IDW's Transformers Galaxies series of comics made a super joke about Bumblebee and Cliffjumper resembling one another. It presents Cliffjumper as living in Bumblebee's shadow, constantly being mistaken for him by other Transformers!
I like how a ton of characters from TF Animated share a body design with Bumblebee, even if the most prominent ones we’ve seen were Cliffjumper and Wasp. It kinda helps Animated’s arc of developing Optimus Prime’s team as heroes instead of wash-ups when one of them basically looks no different than a bunch of other bots. In my opinion, it helps to make Bumblebee’s character a bit more understandable, how he wants to be a guy that stands out from other bots his size like Cliffjumper.
Great video, I'm very happy whenever The Basics mentions Brazilian Robocars❤. As a contribution, allow me to say that the name "Furão" is not a new character, but rather how the name Bumblebee was translated into Brazilian Portuguese when the comics were published in Brazil in 1985
My favorite mini-bot has got to be Windcharger. My dad once had a Pontiac Grand Prix, and this guy's alt mode is pretty close. Plus, Windcharger is such a cool name you can work ideas out of. Me and a roleplay partner have given Windcharger the ability of aerokinesis, allowing him to control the wind and use it as a weapon.
As many people may remember, the Throttlebot Goldbug is simply Bumblebee with a new look as a result of the events of the two-part G1 episode "Return of Optimus Prime".
Looking forward to see the other mini-bots as new toys in the future, Like Gears, Windcharger, Powerglide and Seaspray. Whether it's in the Legacy line or the Studio Series line.
Gears needs to be the next, but Powerglide desperately needs a better toy than the spindly target master treatment he got. And hopefully not an exclusive that ends up costing 3 times retail on the after market

I didn’t expect to see a lot of recolor Bumblebee’s!
Glyph is great, I wish she would get the spotlight soon
Awesome video. I was expecting a video about those mini bots that came 5 in a package.
Another Banger Chris!
my favorite Mni-bot overall is Warpath with Clifjumper as a Close 2nd while my favorite Recolors are Bug bite, Pipes, Tailgate, hup-cap and Glyph.
Fantastic video review! Keep up the good work 👍👍👍
Missed opportunity to refer people to your Muffy and the Mysterians video (only a brief mention of the Mysterians line), still my favorite of all your videos.
Surprised this didn't become "the basics on Minicons". As a kid I knew who Leader 1 was, no idea who bumbelbee was...
There's an older ep for minicons
One of my ABSOLUTE favourite fractions
IDW's Transformers Galaxies series of comics made a super joke about Bumblebee and Cliffjumper resembling one another. It presents Cliffjumper as living in Bumblebee's shadow, constantly being mistaken for him by other Transformers!
My second favorite Beachcomber,Seaspray,Outback.
To this day, I’m convinced movie bumblebees head design was inspired by bumpers head molding. Their helmets look inconceivably similar.
As a contribution, allow me to say that the name "Furão" is not a new character, but rather how the name Bumblebee was translated into Brazilian Portuguese when the comics were published in Brazil in 1985
Managed to get my hands on an original bumblebee for a really good price
Glad we dodged the whole RIRFIB bullet with Bumblebee and Cliffjumper!
These may be small but they can really make a big ruckus
7:35 Hubcap also got his own mold in hftd! It was a pretty neat scout class
@@russellharrell2747 I really want Hasbro to make figures of the Season 1 and Season 2 Autobots. Before the debuts of the Aerialbots (Silverbolt, Air Raid, Skydive, Fireflight and Slingshot) and the Protectobots (Hot Spot, Groove, Streetwise, Blades and First Aid).
@@codytriffo I’d love it if Hasbro would just release these characters in a logical manner and without sticking characters you want with odd ball releases (Prowl released with Beast Wars Grimlock?)
My favorite Transformers subline, since it was the only one I could affort when I was a kid here in Argentina! I still have my G2 Bee, although I always wanted a Powerglide or a Warphat.
And thus, Bumblebee became the Autobot's answer to Starscream's Seekers. The Autotroopers.
Many mini thanks!!
One must give credit to the Mini-Bots and their valiant efforts against Trypticon.
What a fun episode!😃
Hold on there, good Sir. You left out one key fact: Goldbug, which you showed as one of the Throttlebots. Goldbug is, in fact, Bumblebee, who was reformatted during the sequel to the 1986 movie - the 2-part episode that also brought Optimus Prime back into the series.
My favorites are Windcharger,Powerglide,Huffer,Brawn,Warpath.
Great Stuff, as always!
