    One thing I don't understand - when would you want to change the pump cone instead of repitching the impeller?

    • @GreenHulkGarage
      @GreenHulkGarage  2 роки тому +1

      Repitching the impeller will only change engine RPM and doing so will increase or decrease the thrust from the jet pump. Changing the pump cone improves the pump efficiency to improve holeshot, acceleration, and top speed.

    Why some people say to pitch the impeller ?

    About 5 hours in on my new 22 GP SVHO and I must admit I am quite annoyed at all the cavitation. What would be your recommendation on the best mods to start to get rid of it? I am thinking I will do a intake grate and sponsions and re flash if I decide to keep this machine.

    • @GreenHulkGarage
      @GreenHulkGarage  2 роки тому +1

      Intake grate and a Solas impeller will greatly help with cavitation. I’d recommend adding a tune with those mods to get the most out of it.
      Here is a good starting point to minimize cavitation and gain speed:

    Hi, I am interested in doing the lucky cone however am concerned that I have to remove the suction part. If instead of removing the pipe of the suction you cut it so that it is flush to the jet unit wouldnt it still work? it may not be as efficient as before however it will still work I guess? @GreenHulk Garage

    • @GreenHulkGarage
      @GreenHulkGarage  5 місяців тому

      That will not work. If you cut it flush you run the risk of reversing the flow and dumping water into the hull. A bilge pump is a safer option than the factory high speed siphon hose anyways. A bilge pump will always pump water out where the high speed siphoning hose will only siphon water out when moving.

      @@GreenHulkGarage ic ok thanks for clearing that up, and once I have that pipe not being used, I can use that through hull connection for the extra cooling of the engine as to avoid having to drill the hull for the extra pipe?

    Greg, if I remember correctly the Venturi nozzle is 87mm from the factory on the GP’s. Generally speaking are you finding that the L13 performs better on them with the Venturi opened up to 90mm? I seem to recall 85-87mm being the recommended diameter a few years ago. Tempted to order a nozzle and test opening it to 90mm on my setup.

    • @GreenHulkGarage
      @GreenHulkGarage  2 роки тому

      The GP is 87mm. With the lucky 13 cone I bored it enough to gain back most of the rpm lost with the cone and it picked up close to 2 mph. If I had more time and more nozzles I would try stock diameter with less pitch vs bored nozzle with same pitch to see which produced the best results.

    • @rexrobinson4919
      @rexrobinson4919 2 роки тому

      @@GreenHulkGarage did you open up the steering nozzle as well? What were the finished diameters of both when you got done? I also recall the L13 instructions stating the steering nozzle should be 5-6mm larger than the Venturi a few years ago.

    "buckets are shimmed to match spring" 🤣

    • @GreenHulkGarage
      @GreenHulkGarage  2 роки тому

      Would you say they’re not? On top of each valve is a shim to place the the bucket exactly where it needs to be. If you start mixing shims and buckets then the spaces between the cam lobes and tops of the buckets will not be correct. This could close the gap entirely and not allow for the valves to properly seat or even open the gap.

    Are Yamahas a bit more squirmy at high speed compared to other brands? I ask because from the perspective of the camera it doesn’t seem to want to stay flat. 20 years ago I didn’t feel comfortable on Yamahas for this reason and am just hoping this issue of a slight but constant fishtailing has been eliminated.

    • @GreenHulkGarage
      @GreenHulkGarage  2 роки тому +4

      They are not squirmy at all at top speed. The camera does a terrible job at capturing wave height especially when at speed, in this video it was quite choppy causing the ski to come unhooked. On calm water Yamahas are rock solid. It doesn’t compare to other brands at high speed because other brands simply can’t keep up with Yamaha 😁

Is the lucky 13 cone good for getting a bit more top speed ?

      I honestly couldn’t tell a difference. The main reason I go with RIVA tunes is no one else tunes on an engine dyno with egt/afr being monitored in each cylinder. This showed when I pulled the spark plugs on the deans tuned SVHO; plugs 1&4 showed it ran considerably more rich than 2&3(2&3 are known to get more air because of the intake design).
