SHAKSHUKA DIP IT PULL IT GRAB IT ITS THE MOST POWERFULEST EASIEST BREAKFAST OF ALL TIME YOU DONT EVEN NEED ME JUST EAT ME UP AND WATCH COOKIN' SOMETHIN'
INGREDIENTS
¼ cup olive oil
1 medium onion, diced
1 red bell pepper, seeded and diced
1 Fresno chile, diced
4 garlic cloves, finely chopped
1 ½ teaspoons sweet paprika
1 ½ teaspoons smoked paprika
1 teaspoon cumin
1 (28 ounce) can whole peeled tomatoes
6 large eggs
Salt and pepper, to taste
FOR SERVING
1 small bunch fresh parsley, chopped
1-2 shallots
1 lemon
Fresh pita bread
Za’atar
Softened butter
Garlic, minced
COOKING METHOD
1. Preheat oven to 400°F.
2. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add oil.
3. Once shimmering, add onion and peppers and saute for 6-8 minutes, or until golden brown. Reduce heat to medium-low and add garlic, paprika, and cumin and stir to combine. Cook for 1-2 minutes, or until fragrant and aromatic.
4. Add tomatoes, crushing them in your hands as they go into the skillet. Rinse can with a bit of water and add to skillet to get any remaining tomato juice. Simmer for TKTK minutes, or until the mixture reduces by 1/3rd.
5. While the tomatoes cook, heat pita bread in preheated oven. In a small bowl, mix together softened butter, salt and garlic. Slather over top of pita bread and finish with zaatar.
6. Once the tomato mixture is reduced, create 6 small wells using a large spoon. Crack 1 egg into each well and season each with salt and pepper. Cover and cook for 5-6 minutes, or until the whites are fully cooked, but the yolks are still runny.
7. While the eggs are cooking, make parsley and shallot salad. Serve immediately with pita bread and salad.
Not sure if you'll read this but thanks for another fun video. It's taken me a while to get myself to watch this episode because it was my girlfriend's favourite dish and I would always make it for her. She sadly passed away due to suicide and I've kinda been dodging anything and everything that reminds me of her. I saw this video pop up on my feed again and I decide to just give in watch it. Never have I been more emotional over tomatoes and eggs, but I enjoyed every second of this video. Thanks.

I use to put 2 eggs on my intake manifold and drive 75 miles from Lexington KY to Cincinnati everyday for 5 years and when I would get to Cincinnati the eggs would be perfectly hard boiled.
I bet the toxic fumes added an extra nice layer of goodness.

Funny thing Matty posts this now...I've been eating shakshuka for breakfast almost every day for the past 3 weeks.

I'm absolutely all for the best possible conditions for livestock but double blind studies have proven that eggs in various conditions have no discernible taste difference - I think our perception of the animals conditions can warp our sense of taste though, for people that care anyway. I'm lucky to live in an area with lots of farms and I buy my eggs from a lady who treats her chickens like pets and that alone makes the eggs somehow taste better - knowing they have better lives than 99.99% of chickens, the dark orange color reminding me they ate a ton of grass (among other random bugs and whatnot) in their huge pasture :)

Quick tip for anny fellas out there (mostly students like me) who dont have a pan that goes into an oven or an actual oven: just cover you pan with some aluminum foil and the result is actually close to throwing this into the oven. Matty keep rocking my man!!
Get yourself a proper pan brother. Can’t go wrong with a classic cast iron. Cheap and last forever.
Use a lid.

Wow this is fancy! Don't get me wrong it looks delicious,--we just do our Shakshuka a little low-er brow---with tomatoes, onion, garlic, some red pepper flake and salt+pepper. Pretty sure the last time we made it at home we just used toasted bread triangles but you have to have the runny egg yolk, its just better that way. Medium hard/Chunky egg white and yolk do no justice to dipping and scooping up that goodness :)

as a person who comes from the nation of shakshuka, there where some things i could nit ignore and so that would chop up to interpretation like the peppers which are not traditional and so on, but not mixing the whites in the pan between the yolks is a sin and oven is a sin also.
you mix the withes in and put a lid on the pan,
also traditionally eaten with whole loaf of white\black bread or hala.
