PCT Ep 23 Days 73-75: Mather and Muir Pass.. Some Snow

- We climb Mather Pass and experience some of our most hair raising obstacles due to being lost. Fortunately for those below us we were able to scream directions down so they avoid it. Afterwards we head on towards Muir Pass with news of snow 5 miles before and after. It was more like 2 miles before and 6 miles after but what a climb. Evolution Lake on the north side of Muir Pass is stunning. Go when there is snow and ice and you will be mesmerised.
Phenomenal! Be blessed!
Beautiful... Looks alot like the Wind River Mountains in Wyoming ....
Cool video Jay, cant wait till next year to see what you are seeing.
Beautiful. Your videos too a break for awhile, so I kept up with other hikers who have finished their video journeys.
Now I can watch your videos as the Cascades fill with snow and bury the tracks you made until next July. I hope you spend the winter in a great location and have nightly dreams of this epic adventure.
Yep, two weeks since my last video! I've been working on it but have been chilling out. Sometimes when I look through my old video clips I'm sure someone could convince me that I wasn't at any of those places and it was all a dream. Pretty amazing stuff.
WOW!!!!! Evolution Lake was beautiful! This should be playing on one of those huge tv's I see when I walk into Costco!!
It is definitely one of the most beautiful places on the trail. I was so caught up I didn't take nearly as many photos or videos as I should have.
Absolutely fabulous pictures....really enjoy all of them.....like you taking the time to show the small things and that you pan slowly so my eyes go with it....keep up the incredible pictures/vlog!
Yes, panning too quickly makes it hard to see anything. I do forget sometimes and pan a little too quickly sometimes but I do keep it in mind.
I’ll be so bummed if I missed you in Yosemite @ 6/9-13 when I was there on vacation! I enjoy watching your videos 😊
paperpensetc I think we passed through just after you but only went to Tuolumne Meadows really. There were so many people there!
Hands down, your videos are the best of the 2018 thru-hikers. Your camera work is impressive and I think you've found the right balance of scenic shots and commentary. Kudos! And honestly, thanks for putting the effort into these.
Hello from Montana.......I sprained my ankle last week and found your channel; excellent video's. Thank you so much for entertaining me for hours.
Reetz Well thank you for watching for hours! I hope you ankle gets better quickly and doesn't give you any more problems.
Been watching you since near the beginning, best one yet. Thanks for sharing!
Incredible, thank you!
Amazing. Great days. Yes the length of videos is great. Stay happy and safe.
Wow! Loved the slide down! You are in such a beautiful place, and your videos add that beauty to my life. Thank you.
Kim Zabel I'm sitting here editing episode 26 and it got me teary eyed looking back at where I've been and what I've seen. It truly is amazing.
Wow Jay! That was epic!!! Big climbs. Big mountains. Big water crossings. LOVED the slow-mo of the water rushing by the bridge. That was very slick indeed. You were in the most beautiful part of the PCT so I hope you enjoyed it.... yeah, lots of water crossings and post-holing but what scenery! And now you're over 1/3 of the way to Canada!!!! Keep trekkin'!!!
Dave Nelson It's kind of sad that part is over. I'm at Sierra City now and the hike recently have been a whole lot more trees. It's giving me time to think though.
Thanks for this video, Jay! It's amazing! Happy trails and be safe.
Wow today I guess is my day. My favorite 2 hikers releasing videos on the same day going through the same pass but from different years. You are going through Mather Pass with a lot of snow. Hurlgoat just released his 2017 SOBO through Mather Pass. Mid October and he has no snow going through the same place. His snow was on the Sierra High Route. Boy what a differences in scenery.
Willard Wooten I watched Hurlgoat's video too: less water (for example on the water slide underneath Mather Pass) and no snow! Lots of snow melting in the summer months of course...
Thanks. I was watching his videos before I started to and still see his videos on my subscription feed. He cruised through!
Yeah but with 65 lb pack. He's getting lighter with all the SD cards he mailed home.
Beautiful thank you for the views!
Jay beautiful photography and video. Keep is safe
That was your best video ever ( according to me) love the scenery, thank you
I love your videos, but on this one, you outdid yourself! Your cinematography is awesome and you capture things "just right". Thank you so much for taking the time to post these wonderful videos! :)
Den Lair Thank you. I always have so many regrets about not taking footage of something or wishing I did things differently but Muir Pass really made things easy for me. It was such a beautiful approach.
Ha first again....great video Jay....I get to see sections of the PCT no ones captures before. I like the length of your video's too...again, be safe, your doing very well pilgrim...
V Poppawolf Thanks. The longer I hike with a group I think I've been recording less but it'll get back to something longer. Now that incredible views are over I'm thinking about hiking life in general or other ideas to keep me going.
Good repair job on your spikes. Now I have go climbing, the sun came out.
Awsome Jay thanks ... hope i get such nice views also in 2019
I like your videos. BTW: What is the "name" of the music used? It sounds good!
nightowl73 It's called A Tribute by Enrico Altavilla and available at freesountrackmusic.com. You can use some songs for free by crediting the composer but you can pay for and use commercially anything there. That's where I get most of my music but I paid for most.
Wonderful again....Be safe
I'm enjoying your videos very much. I have a friend on the PCT who I think is three or four days behind you. I enjoy knowing (thanks to you) what he will be heading into. All thru hikers have the right stuff in my book. Thanks so much for posting your adventure.
Beautiful snowy climbs Jay you really need to work on that breathing man your going to pass out and fall off a mountain
Clara Mullen I breathe kind of heavily but I'll be all right. When I hike alone you should hear me! I think I'm not hiking fast enough if I'm not breathing hard.
duct tape maybe
