This is huge! It’s just kinda odd Apple didn’t advertise this at all. They put in so much work completely redesigning the phone on the interior while it still looks exactly the same from the outside. Guess they didn’t talk about it because they would have had to admit wrongdoing in the past lol

It would't be ideal though as you do tend to lose the water resistances after opening it up... that isn't to say that it can't be done properly, but compared to the original flush finish from the factory compared to a adhesive removed, scrapped and then resealed, it just wouldn't be as 'trustworthy'.

I worked at a cell phone repair shop for a while, and I had a ton of charge port repairs, I can't say how many back glass repairs, but we had a lot for sure. It was annoying that I had to pretty much take the entire phone apart to get to the charge port.

I’m always giggling at the thought of how phone companies deal with water resistance.
Like a while ago I assumed there’d be rubber lining across the phone, just like the smaller parts, but all the companies instead went: “let’s just glue the phone together. Let’s REALLY glue them boys down. Oh yeah. Sticky time all around. :)”
Also if apple is kind enough to do something like this easier iPhone repair, I feel like it’s probably because they’re about to screw us over by taking out the charge port or something soon, like the sim.

Don't people realize that the moment a new/different SoC has to join the circuit that the whole motherboard has to be designed to accommodate the new chip, simply because the final shape looks similar to previous one doesn't mean not work has been done. Or maybe people finally believe their bs when they look at the exterior and say you can hardly spot any difference, that it means there's actually none?

Comparing lockout of the components in a computer to the windshield wipers of a car is quite a bit off base. Windshield wipers are wear items, like brake pads, and are made to be replaced by the consumer. Nothing inside an iPhone, or any other pocket computer, is a wear item and made to be consumer replaced every so often. Just not comparable, completely different issues at stake.

If you must pry, you can use two iSesamos next to each other at the bottom of the phone with 99% isopropyl alcohol or denatured ethanol for more spread-out surface tension so as to not break the screen.

And i didnt even mentioned that you have to (in some models) remove taptic engine and loudspeaker to even make space for the pull taps to pull(otherwise it would just straight tear off)
I like the way Samsung is gluing their batteries. You just need to heat the phone ti around 70°C, use few drops of alcohol and it basically pop out by itself (well almost).
