- Was there a Xenomorph Queen in Alien: Isolation? Or, did the aliens follow the "egg-morphing" process as depicted in the director's cut of Alien (1979)?

You mean brett not parker?
jason Grady PHStiger'61 Thank you for beating me to it lol
OH MY GOD
Eddie Olshefski sorry.
Lol I’m sorry- this isn’t the first time I’ve done this! 😂
jason Grady PHStiger'61 Don't be
The idea that the queen was there was much scarier than actually encountering her.
Facts
"She's down there somewhere" sounds more scary too then seeing her
She must have been somewhere down there in that reactor. It was a big area. Ripley took a huge gamble trying to go down there to overload it and return to the main level. Her mom’s luck and survival instincts saved her. 👌😎
Absolutely bro!! 💯
@@TheTechCguyabsolutely
If you return to the reactor area in mission 16 you very clearly hear the queen. Its a deeper, more powerful scream than a regular xenomorph.
I did so once while I was getting the nostromo log in engineering. I was curious if you could go back down into the nest but the elevator is offline. I didn't notice any alien scream that stood out to me but this was before I had considered the possibility of a queen. I think I remember running down the catwalks and hearing the alien bumping around like it heard me but couldn't get to me because of game design
I love the fact that if she was there by those words, then not seeing her made that whole sequence in the hive that much better for me.... I KNEW she was there... somewhere... I was glad I never came across her.....
It would be much better imo if there was no queen. That would mean that the alien in Alien and this was a different species to the aliens in Aliens. Eggmorphing is a much better concept than making them space bugs
@@dezertfox3681 Surely what you mentioned about the facehuggers would apply to eggmorphing too?
I also noticed that they must have reproduced via some other means at some points as when you blow up the hive, there is no way a queen could have escaped yet near the end you find a tiny hive with a few eggs in it. (It's also not canon that xenomorphs can turn into queens)
me to
i hate the eggmorphing theory
Imagine, once in a while u would bump into her and die. All of a sudden. No explanation, nothing. Just Quick death.
Would be cool af!
The game was perfect, you were running for your life and defending against the xenos, you were NOT triying to find the queen, nor the hive would EVER allow you to do so, why would a giant hive like that let you get so close to their queen?
The game was a realistic take on the first movie. Man, a Masterpiece!!!
There was definately a Queen on Sevastopol because there are hundreds of eggs in the Hive under the main reactor. While eggmorphing process can create new eggs, it does so much slower than the Queen and it can't make them in such large quantity.
I think the Queen was either the first xenomorph on Sevastopol (born from Catherine Foster - Marlow's girlfriend who was facehugged) or she was born through eggmorphing made by the Foster's Drone.
That Queen was most likely killed when Amanda purged the reactor (unlike smaller and more agile Drones a massive Queen couldn't escape in time).
eggmorphing isn't really that slow. Brett from Alien was nearly pretty much turned into a full egg and that was less than 24 hours, because if you recall, Ripley says to the marines in Aliens "one of things managed to wipe out her entire crew in less than 24 hours". so eggmorphing is quite quick actually. so with a space station full of people, that alien is very capable of taking many hosts and in less than 24 hours
I think that while eggmorphing may take less than 24 hours, it's still slower than the Queen who produces around few dozen eggs in the same 24 hours time period (a scene in Aliens where Ripley and Newt stumbled upon the Queen shows well how fast the Queen produces eggs ).
With eggmorphing the xenos need to capture two host organisms instead of just one (one for egg transformation and other for facehugger to plant an embryo). And there weren't that many hosts on Sevastopol for the xenos to create that many eggs through eggmorphing only. When the infestation began Sevastopol crew had only about 300-500 people since the station was about to be decomissioned and when Amanda and her team arrived to the station there were still around 100 human survivors separated into multiple rogue groups.
Major Benson Winifred Payne I’d have to go with Foster having the queen implanted. Main reason is because there’s a facehugger running around on Marlow’s ship. To me that says she had a queen the emerged when she was on the operating table. And yeah, eggmorphing on that scale would lead to too many eggs, not enough people. I think the queen laying the eggs is the main form of reproduction, and there are alternatives to either start a nest, or have a queen.
+Major Benson Winifred Payne *Everything you just said is 1000% Correct!*
You're opinion is best! I agree.
The fact that you wondered whether or not she was down there somewhere and could maybe even hear her screeching now and again made it terrifying enough, and all the better for what you cannot see. Such an amazing game. Can't believe it hasn't had a sequel.
I still prefer the Xenomorph molting into a Queen theory.
Sage Channel holy shit its sage, love your content man
Yes, I like this idea. I beleive I made it up independently too. Aliens should be adaptable, not dependent on some "royal facehugger" which would be too much of a weak link.
To be honest this theory makes much more sense than the egg morphing theory. In the absence of a hive, create one. Hive needs a Queen, and all drones have the potential to become one in the absence of an existing one, or if the Queen should be killed, rather than relying on a singular facehugger that only appears "when the time is right".
Just like 6 did in the AVP game made me think that too
I think the eggmorphing fits the greater scheme as well. If there is only one creature or the hive is otherwise very small and uncertain, the time is not yet right to transform into queen and the eggs should be produced by morphing.
Still no sequel to this amazing game :(
Corgi but some how outlast and evil within got sequels when they were both worse than Isolation. I blame IGNs bad review.
Trusty Milkshake
Sadly, it's the sales numbers which made Sega decide not to make a sequel. They just about broke even on the game.
Now whether or not IGN's resident Call of Duty player review was the cause for those sales is difficult to say. I certainly hope not because that would mean gamers are actually listening to those jokers.
McBaron it totally had an impact. Especially after the colonial marines incident. Alien fans and gamers alike wanted other opinions before buying because they didn’t want to be swindled the same way as before. IGN wasn’t the only one. Gametrailers I remember was particularly harsh. A lot of good games were coming out in 2014 and maybe creative assembly didn’t feel like coughing out the cash to pay reviewers for a good score like most triple A titles. Isolation wasn’t perfect, but it would’ve been hailed if not for the fact that Sega pissed in our coffee a year earlier.
I still hold hope that Sega sees how much everyone liked that game, and make a sequel.
Corgi There sort of IS a sequel. Aliens: Defiance, which takes places straight after Alien: Isolation. And there doesn't really NEED to be a sequel to this game because it's just a story of how Amanda Ripley was looking for her mother.
The game creators did say there was a queen, just wasn't seen
They are very inconsistent about this and in the game it makes more sense if there wasn't so I'm gonna stick with that
@@a_cats like what inconsistency?
@@TheCoppoy I made this comment 9 months ago I honestly can't remember what I was on about
@@a_cats saaaad. I'd love to dig into goofs of Alien Isolation plot
@@TheCoppoy I think I was thinking of the second hive they create near the end that had eggs even though there was no way the queen could have escaped the destruction of the first hive
I think they made the right call. But we could have seen some more hints at the queen, making the whole journey of Alien: Isolation less ambiguous.
Marco Coelho Same. I had the 'feeling' there was an Alien Queen on the station which added to the overall anxiety I experienced when playing. But in all, I think they made the right call not to physically introduce it and by just keeping the subtle allusions.
The game did it's job by honouring the original movie and all the isolation and terror that made it famous. Anything more would have taken it into 'Aliens' and action movie territory in my opinion...
You could have had it where there is security cam of a queen breaking loose and a new mechanic would be added where if you stayed in one room too long she could break through a wall or the floor and hunt you down.
I just wish you could have heard her more, instead of just the drones. Like, the Queen screaming down there when you completed objectives. She'd sound kind of distant after the first, but the more you did, the louder/closer she got. Though I'm glad they kept her out physically, just wished for more sounds from her.
Marco Coelho ambiguity builds tension though, it's what made alien so great and covenant nowhere near as good
I think if they did add the Queen in physically, they didn't have to make it a boss fight. Since you can't kill any of the aliens in the game anyways, it would be terrifying if all you could do is run and hope she doesn't catch you.
But I do agree that just some subtle hints that there might have been one just added onto the anxiety and the scary factor of the unknown.
Alien Isolation is canon ? Its totally deserve it
alien isolation is so good I definitely consider it canon.
Way more canon than the turds that Prometheus and Alien: Covenant are (for me anyways).
Yep, confirmed canon
Julius Tapert By whom? Lol no it isn’t.
ExtremePlayGames Isolation lies in the gray area. At best
I believe it was a Queen’s reproduction taking place, rather than eggmorphing. Eggmorphing requires people, which is a finite resource on a lone space station.
Some eggmorphing could’ve taken place in the early infestations of Sevastopol. However, it is most likely a Queen grew to size at the most populated stage, and the inhabitants were used as mere hosts, rather than both nutrients and hosts.
Eggmorphing being involved would be less efficient. It would require a half sum of individuals selected for the unseen morphing, and a select few to be face hugged. Whereas, a Queen can just get the job done then and there.
JimmyMACfluster It would be interesting to see them economically using the bodies of hosts for eggmorphing lol. That's assuming that Brett was dead before being converted at the end of the director's cut.
That is correct. The Xenomorphs could very well have been converting dead hosts, already chest-bursted for their morphing.
I assumed that the original eggmorphing hosts were still alive when morphed. Dallas was only partially morphed and was still able to beg for death. Brett however, was already mostly a completed Ovamorph, so it is uncertain whether or not he was harvested alive, or killed off in the Xenomorph’s assault. [Which is most likely the case, unless the frontal lobe damage only cause paralysis.]
+JimmyMACfluster *You are 100% spot-on!*
Exactly
There's no way they egg-morphed the entire station. Hadley's Hope aliens didn't need to do that. Clearly breeding a queen is high priority to the continuation of the Xenomorph species.
It might have been exciting if at some point in the game the player had to run and hide from the queen. It would be different than the usual.
I think the facehugger on Marlow’s ship was the one that implanted the queen embryo.
It would have been cool to see a queen interaction towards the very end... making the player assume what could/would happen in the next alien isolation
I saw the queen at Universal Studios during their Halloween event. I was not expected to fight it.
Isolation was PERFECT just the way it was... I kept wondering when I would run into the queen, and thought there is NO WAY you could destroy her with ONLY the things you have... so it was PERFECT to keep you FEARING that confrontation, which is JUST what the game was about. I was totally shocked at the ending bc I was expecting a battle with a queen and it took a complete left turn! AN AWESOME and WELL DESIGNED game!
If the director officially stated that there was a queen, then why is this even being debated?
@Darkschool6 - because people and the internet. Alas.
Darkschool6 Because the game still leaves it open to interpretation as did the original film. As aliens shows that a queen can reproduce for the species, however I like to believe they also eggmorph, as it’s the only way for the species to continue from a single drone. (From what’s been shown onscreen thus far.)
Pirate man As there was only one initial chestburst victim, it either had to be the chestburster from that victim or eggmorphing occurred. There’s no other possibility.
Pirate man So you did.
I think Foster was implanted with a queen embryo. Marlow’s ship had one facehugger running around, probably trying to find a host for a drone.
Remember how Ripley was chased by the alien queen in Aliens?
Now imagine an entire level where you have to run around corridors and trying to run away from the alien queen.
While running away from the xenomorph is useless as they programmed the monster to always catch up to you, which forces the player to move slow and sneak around, in the Queens case, the player would actually be encouraged to run fast, so that the alien queen would not catch up to him.
I always got the chills in the scene where, Ripley was waiting by the elevator to get in, while the alien queen was seen approaching from the distance.
Then Ripley had to keep her at bay by shooting with the flamethrower, until she could get in the elevator and then close the door.
And just when she though that she escaped the queen, it turned out that the queen also learned pretty fast, how to use an elevator. So Ripley saw how the alien queen was also following them with the elevator.
Like, if done right, they could have a very stressful and adrenaline filled level where you have to run away from the Alien Queen. I think there is potential in that.
The thing is the queen would have to break off the brood sack to do so.
I remember when I first saw the xenomorph in this game and accidentally stood on its tail then I got my face ripped off XD. Cool vid
Also, I totally agree with the decision to not show the Queen in alien isolation just because it's very clear that the game was trying to emulate the atmosphere of the original film and I think having a fight sequence that actually makes the player feel empowered would detract from the feeling of helplessness the game wants to portray
Totally agree
I agree. But also stating the fact that if there was a fight sequence with the queen indicates that you could kill her in which it wouldn't make sense as you can not kill the Drone alien in this game. You just piss it off more by firing a gun at it. Not even pipe bombs do damage.
Motun Turk
Yeah it acts as a trip wire of sorts lol
Never played Alien Isolation, too scary for me.
Not Dave coward! But seriously yeah the game is scary. Had me jump, and scream at certain parts of the game. Also there's a lot of tension when that alien is stalking u
I tend to stay away from most FPS and horror games because they scare me, and I don't like being scared :( I know many people enjoy the fear but not me .
I was so intrigued by the story that I NEEDED to keep playing it. It was TOO.DAMN.HARD. Period. I don't like being scared, but the game was SO SO AMAZING that I had to. You will be blessed with an amazing story, gameplay and homage to the original Alien, without a single doubt. What's even more incredible is the attention to detail. If you like Alien, you MUST play it. Everything is so perfect... I bought twice, first on PS3 then on PS4.
Watch the ceiling vents...
The first time you played it's completely scary. Since the second time is funnier than scary
At least that was my experience
Love your channel! Keep doing what you do!
I always never liked the eggmorphing idea. As much as I love the original Alien, I think Cameron got it right with the queen idea in Aliens. I always thought a lone Alien would begin to morph into a queen since it was the only one of its kind like in the game Aliens vs Predator (2010). I just never thought the idea of humans becoming facehuggers was good.
rexattack18 Agreed. Sure it's fictional but eggmorphing is a bit too much for my suspension of disbelief.
Red Panda Rampage it makes them even more alien imo. Its terrifying if you think about it, the xeno can manipulate DNA to save its species... I always thought it was a lot cooler and added to the alien side of the xeno rather than essentially being giants bees.
Though i like the idea of molting. I also see where youre coming from, molting and a queen are both concepts that exists in the world of insects and spiders, so its more relatable and I guess realistic.
The eggmorphing it´s absolutely ok with Queen. If there it´s only one xenomorph in the area, can use bodies to morph eggs which one can morph a facehugger to a royal facehugger. (sry for my bad english)
@@redpandarampage2191 Yeah we don't want the Alien to be too Alien or scary after all. Thankfully they got much more understandable with Aliens and thus less ominous, which is perfect for a horror franchise.
I dislike the concept simply because it doesn't make sense from either a purely natural evolutionary standpoint or the standpoint that they are entirely engineered bioweapons.
If the xenomorph species were natural then they would have evolved into what they are. Eggmorphing completely rewrites organisms on the DNA level. It would take less energy to simply morph a host into another xenomorph than to make an egg to house a facehugger to house an embryo that would take on the DNA of it's host. Eggmorphing is a waste of energy and resources.
If they were engineered bioweapons then it makes way more sense to have a terminal unit that is in control to all the other ones and to be vital to the survival of the species. That way if you control one unit you control the whole army. Eggmorphing completely undermines that.
It just doesn't make sense no matter what origin for the alien you go for. Eggmorphing is a product of a stand alone film spitballing an idea that didn't make it until decades later. It's fine though we don't call Weyland-Yutani "Weylan-Yutani" and have it's logo be a sunrise like the first film do we?
Alien Isolation was a near perfect game and really captured the claustrophobic terror of the original film. I never felt like the need or explanation of a queen present on the station was needed. However in looking back, hints to her presence could have added to the terror. Once the flamethrower was added to the game the alien itself became less of a threat, albeit in only a small degree. Knowing that there was something worse on the station could have help to build up the fear of third act of the game.
Now if only we could convince Activision and Creative Assembly to make a sequel so that we know the definitive end to Amanda’s story prior to her passing mention in the directors cut of Aliens.
Guess you could say that the writers made her appearance... an easter egg hahaha eggcellent idea xD I'm not fun at parties though :/
Awesome was hoping to see some Alien isolation theory's or discussions.
Keep them coming if you have any other ideas. :)
Thanks! I do and will!
This game is the closest thing we have to real Alien horror film love it. This game respects the Alien for what it is, a unkillable perfect organism! Shame Ridley Scott lost that direction.
You meant James Cameron and I had to report your comment for terrisom
It's not a shame tho when people think of this series they think of Aliens Fact
I love second movie. Without weapons I m bit of lost.
@@945045able Second movie is a joke, is nothing of alien, is a dressed terminator with aliens, dont mention the same actors. Alien is Alien 1979 and Alien 3
Ridley Scott never lost the direction, is bassed all in Giger Books, the only lost the direction is james cameron, with the stupid marines, pulse rifles and terminator style movie. Dont mention the same recurrent actors from T1 and T2.
The idea of a queen being there but luckily unseen/undiscovered is great. It tells you "yeah, she might be there, but dont think finding her would be that easy" which I like, it makes the Queen Xenomorph more threatening. Hearing the hissing, if true, is a great addition, if used well.
Do you plan on doing more Alien Isolation videos?
Yes definitely
Thanks, I think your vids are really great and I enjoy watching them. I can't wait to see more
There definitely was a queen on the station, you could hear her occasionally through the entire game. There is a very specific xenomorph screech you hear that is the canon noise of the queen broadcasting general orders to xenos in the hive, you hear her every so often as you travel through the game, the most loudly in the hive mission.
There was a Queen on board Sevastopol Station, one of the developers said Amanda was lucky not to run into the Queen down in the reactor. Man Alien Isolation is an absolute masterpiece, the atmosphere is top notch, captures the vibe of Alien perfectly 👏👏👏👏👏👏
If so, why are there no xenomorph warriors?
@@leonthegodfather6616 Exactly. I reject what the developers said because there's no visual, audio nor conceptual artistic evidence that a queen was present. It's just their word against the next developer or director who retcons it in a game or movie. It's not assured nor is it foolproof. Just my thoughts on the matter.
One of best games I ever played, the alien universe is amazing and thanks to this channelnis more easy yo understand, the theories are mind blowers!!
I've been waiting for this. I always HOPED that there would be a DLC where you play as a random Survivor who was unlucky enough to not just be in the Hive, but also encounter the Queen.
They wouldn’t be a survivor after meeting the Queen lol
Honestly I like the subtle hints that the Queen is there, the creepy hissing in some parts of the game, and I think they made the right choice in not including the xenomorph queen especially since they are going for a survival horror, the Queen is good for games like AvP, Aliens Colonial Marines, and Fireteam but also I like the developers confirmed she indeed does exist somewhere deep within the Sevastopol station, hearing her hisses and screeches but not having her make a physical appearance to me makes it more threatening because the normal Xenomorph drone is threatening and scary enough but you get a feeling that something much bigger is hidden deep within the station, you don't see our beloved Xeno Queen, but she makes her presence known in the game with subtle hints being her screeches and hisses you can hear in some parts of the game, ultimately I think she is the ultimate orchestrator behind everything, she is unseen but she is definitely there, I believe the Xenomorph that's hunting you and the other survivors on board the Sevastopol are being hunted under her orders for the hive.
Alien Isolation was hands down one of the best games ive played in the past decade. From the atmosphere to the game play imo perfect. When playing I thought there could be a queen, but in my head was totally down that their was just alot of egg morphing since its kinda of creepier. great video!
I honestly think Alien Isolation was a perfect game, they got it right and did it so well and I personally think it can't be improved at all.
Personally, I like the idea of a lone Alien using the egg morphing method at first, then when it's supported by enough drones, that Alien then becomes a Queen, the reasoning behind this being that if a lone Alien immediately transformed into a Queen then not only would she be highly restricted in movement but particularly vulnerable while in the egg laying process. Not to say that she couldn't detach from her egg sack if she needed to, but to me it just makes sense that they'd do this on an evolutionary cautious level, Xenomorphs being incredibly hardy survivors after all.
I'm mad we haven't got a sequel yet, outstanding game for the franchise.
I'd like to see a sequal, too, but I heard Isolation didn't make as much profit as Sega were expecting.
I think both egg morphing and queen would work. Not only would egg morphing would produce more aliens, it would also have the chance of finding an alien queen to lead and speed up the process of their infestation
I think that confirming it's there, unseen, actually makes me more nervous going through this part. (I've literally JUST entered the hive on my first play-through.) That somehow feeds my paranoia about coming across such a monstrosity or even just clues of its presence. Like, if I knew that it was canonically on the other side of some particular wall, yet not actually coded into the game at all, that wall would still freak me out. But, either way, the game is basically perfect, even to someone like me who dislikes scary games. Just have to note that last part. Thanks for the informative vids.
I friggin love this channel. You somehow have the perfect demeanour and tone of voice for conveying the events of the alien franchise.
In the first movie Alien and Alien: Isolation the first people to see an egg were just like, "Oh, what's this? Better stick my face in it!"
Even if you never play video games, you should definitely make an exception for Alien Isolation. It has the sounds and visuals that is dead on to the original movie. And nothing is more terrifying that hear a real monster hunting you down the entire time.
I take it there was queen, its creepy enough to backtrack place where you dont think you would return and then suddenly hear unusual xenomorph scream.
Egg-morphing would lead to a queen being made eventually. Egg-morphing is done in the absence of a queen until a queen is produced.
Since the aliens are such good survivors and all the experiments that David does to create them I’m guessing that egg morphing is a way to produce a royal facehugger that would in turn produce a queen. Love how there are so many unanswered questions about them
The way I look at it is that a lone Alien will egg morph to repoduce until a Queen is born and thereafter she will take over egg production.
I think there was a Queen, we just didn't need to see it. Hear it maybe, that makes the hive stage more tense (if possible) than it already was. Knowing she's there...somewhere. Great video again.
Personally I really like that we never see the queen. I would have liked if she was hinted at more, like in a log someone starts wondering how more eggs and xenos got on board and theorized that maybe one of them became a queen. But not seeing her really works within lore, because her being shoved away deep into the station makes a lot of sense. We only scratch a little into the hive like the marines in aliens. We would have had to go way deeper to see her.
Toys r us is closing down. Anyone remember being one of the first to get the queen toy? :) nostalgia.
I remember them only having the marine figures. And I remember the collectors scooping up all of the Xenomorphs before anyone else could and then selling them at comic conventions for insane prices.
I would agree that mentioning and or see a Queen would've disrupted the flow and horror of the game, giving a it a more "Aliens" feel. I think the idea of a hidden, unseen Queen or--as you mentioned--the Egg-morphing was the best way to go about it. I loved the first movie, and the game very much feels like a sequel to it.
I love the theory of The Legend of the Queen hiding inside Sevastopol.
I love the idea that the queen was always there hidden. It makes it that more terrifying
Honestly, the fact that there was more than one Xeno was twist enough for me. My brain was fully prepared to accept the Alien 'teleporting' between levels as just games being games.
I always wondered if there was only the one alien during the first 10 missions and the others were just chilling down in the reactor. Every character was confident that there was only one and when Ripley consults Apollo, it tells her unverified scans in the reactor and does not mention any other trace of the alien elsewhere on the station. If there were multiple aliens running around the whole time, why do they disappear during missions 11-13? I think if you go to San Cristobol during mission 12, you can encounter the alien but that might be a mistake on the game's part. I'm leaning towards there being just one in the beginning who happens to follow you from space flight terminal, to Lorenz, to San Cristobol, even if it is unrealistic and makes no sense.
they should have added a sequence where you are in a big area and the queen is lurking around while you are trying to complete an objective while power is malfunctioning and scary music in the background.
Great video love it ! Alien Queen is my favorote Xenomorph she cares for her children she doesnt control she leads them i think she was there Xenomorphs probably blocked the path where the Queen was make sure nobody can get close to her
She-Venom no
HHSSSSHHHHHH
The Queen died when Amanda flushed the reactors, like several of the Xenomorphs did? How many did get out? 3-4?
I think it was at least five. It's hard to see them all but I usually count 3 climbing up the central reactor and then the two right in your face
@@drunkdave5677 How many were down there in the hive before you flushed the reactors like 11-16 xenomorphs?
I just assumed there was a queen since there were eggs.
Lightsaber Addict I did the same thing and just assumed that a Xenomorph queen was there.
The writer’s explanation makes a lot of sense. Even vague hints about the queen would have built in expectations of a confrontation, and that would have gone against the ethos of the game. Maybe save the queen for a sequel.
It wasn't until recently that I noticed that Brett was turning into an egg in that deleted scene (which I've only seen a few times compared to the film which I've seen many times). I like the idea that a lone male alien can still reproduce because otherwise, unless the first alien to be born is a queen, then there is no other possibility. My impression when I first played the game was that they just disregarded Aliens and everything else as canon until I heard what you mentioned in the video about a queen being there in theory but not acknowledged. If the egg-morphing is not a real thing in canon, that means the alien that spawned from Foster had to be a queen, snatched up at least one person to spawn more aliens and then let them do the rest. If egg-morphing is a thing, then Foster's alien could have egg-morphed until eventually they got a queen who could then lay the eggs for them. Egg-morphing as a concept is not very believable to me, even in this universe. If we get a sequel, which we won't, I hope they clear this up.
Both molting and eggmorphing are seen as possible methods of reproducing, it just the circumstances that dictate which method is used. For example, the Nostromo's rooms probably could not hold a Queen, which would make molting difficult if not outright impossible, so eggmorphing was used. I like to think eggmorphing as an emergency situation where a Queen cannot gestate or be molted into for various reasons
You just added a new dynamic to this game for me. I had ZERO clue a freaking ALIEN QUEEN was on board with me. I always had my suspicions but this? This just terrifies me....
The fact we never saw her but knew she was there somewhere made the whole thing that much scarier. She was just kicked back and breeding more Xenos somewhere.
Personally, seeing a queen wouldn't have made me think a fight was coming. It was hard enough to repel the Xenomorph as it was. If they had shown a queen off in the distance it wouldn't have been a bad thing as long as there was some way to go around without going near.
They made the right call. Isolation is tedious but also allegedly about escape and survival. Going into the heart of the lion's den would've taken away from that, rather than skirting its edges just long enough to flip a few switches and get out
I like to think of as this:
The first Xenomorph made its way through the station torwards the reactor. As it established its Hive either two things happened.
1- Among the many eggs it produced through egg morphin a queen was spawned and the drone went from establishing a supply chain of hosts to actively hunting and protecting the hive.
Or
2- Either the first Xeno aboard the station was a queen from the start and established the hive quickly to spawn more drones or with lack of a queen like 6, the first Xeno became the alpha of the pack and while others hunted after the hive was established the drone went through a transformation into a queen.
Exactly but if there is an alien queen with a reasonable amount of time on the station you will not find xenomorph warriors
Probably the scarriest thing to think about, that there could be indeed an alien queen somewhere deep down there in the station probably even deeper then the reactor core just waiting, ripley was just lucky to not run into her when she searched the reactor, its probably even scarrier to think if the queen would have become aware that the station was falling and she would die that she would make her way to the higher levels of the station causing ripley to either hear her or see her in an elevator trying to escape for in the end her to be blown off into the gas giant with her nest.
I’ve never understood why they can’t say that eggmorphing and queens are both canon. The former makes sense as a starting point when there’s only a single drone that has to make do with whatever bodies he’s got, the idea that Xenomorphs can effectively start a colony from just one stowaway drone on a ship is fantastic. The latter also makes sense since once a Queen finally finishes her lengthy growth and development, ovomorph production becomes both cheaper and faster, so Xenomorphs can stray away from just killing people and focus more on the more horrifying prospect of impregnating them. Having both in canon would be satisfying and contribute to the theme of Xenomorphs having so many ways to kill you and use your body.
Well holy shit...I had no idea! I assumed they went down the egg-morphing route. In my opinion what they should have done is have her in a hidden area, for example behind a locked door in the hive; and unlocking the door was time consuming and involved various steps. The casual player would most likely completely miss this. Therefore they wouldn’t have had to include a battle of any kind - it would just be about catching a glimpse. Hell, maybe they could’ve even thrown in a hidden trophy for it.
The room of the Alien queen could’ve been a one (or two) time moment when Ripley has to hide behind eggs and crawl through the whole room :)
I knew this topic had to be here somewhere! A bit late to the party, but I recently replayed this game and it left me with a lot of questions that I am relieved was at least partially covered here. While the gameplay remains excellent, the story is a bit inconsistent with established alien behavior, as it understandably caters to the gaming experience. The lack of a queen has been explained, but why was there only one drone to start with? Why was there two hives, and why didn't the few remaining drones remain to protect it instead of follow Amanda to the Torrens? If I remember correctly, only about a week passes between the Anesidora arriving and the end of the game. Seems like an awfully fast timeline for the state Sevastopol is in when Amanda arrives, considering their population and resources. I would love to hear anybody's thoughts on this, but given that this video is over two years old now I'm just happy others has wondered the same things!
I’d love an Alien Isolation remake with mic input as an option to add immersion as well as a queen interaction and gameplay revolving around sneaking around the eggs with the queen near the reactor
It would be brutal but I prefer it to appear in a sequel. For me, there is no alien queen in that game. The sound you hear is just a very simple Easter egg. There is no report in the game or physical indications such as alien warriors that suggest an alien queen in The Sebastopol station would also break the tribute to aliens, the eighth passenger
She did eventually find out what happened to her mom on the Nostromo, but it took a lot of effort from her and others helping her to do that. On top of surviving what happened on Sevastopol Station. Nostalgia. 😱👽☠️
Adding Cameron's giant cockroach would have definitely been a vibe kill to this perfect game.
Egg morphing, now that's a horror story! I love that idea.
Suggesting a queen's presence, but not showing it, was the best thing for an interquel to do. They saved the initial reveal for the end of ALIENS where it belongs.
Though I haven't played the game myself, I find myself agreeing with their decision. The goal of Alien: Isolation is to capture the feel of Ridley Scott's 1979 horror classic, and there were no Queens to be found there.
The game definitely caught the feel of Alien.
Too bad Aliens: Colonial Marines was not as greatly executed as Isolation was. I haven't played A: CM yet, but I think I'd be better not playing for myself.
The only reason a queen even exists is because Cameron just thought "bigger, better, stronger" without thinking much about life cycle. People always expect more things from sequels.
A whole lotta “nope!” at this part! I don’t think anyone in their right mind would be down there where that nest is for the life of them. Ripley was lucky she wasn’t infected with a facehugger here!
The addition of an alien queen could have ruined the game because alien isolation is a horror game, not an action game. They could have added in a queen but without a battle scene. Make it more of a flight rather than fight scene where Ripley is running away from and hiding from the queen. The use of the alien queen would have to be very little though imo. Introduce her down in the nest with a running and hiding scene, having her survive the purge and climbing up the wall, then seeing her one last time charging at you down the maintenance rig as you're about to release the torrens.
I agree with it. While the presence of a queen is very important in some ways, it would definitely enter my mind as a player that there would have to be a reckoning or confrontation with one. The absence of mentioning the queen means you still focus your concerns on Sevastopol itself and the Alien drones hunting you. While it would have been a cool thing, I agree it would have added a distraction and the game already had a very nice flow between humans, aliens, and androids.
I think there was a Queen. If you played AvP 2010 playing the Xenomorph you get instructions from the queen hissing, that sound voice was special to the Queen. You hear this same voice in Alien Isolation when you are close to the hive after you activated the reactor. Even though there is no Queen, anyone of those numerous Xenomorph will morph into one.
And I love Alien Isolation a lot played it more than 10 times like its a long series movie. ❤😂
Not sure about the whole egg morphing thing, I know it was a cut scene from Alien, I suspect it was cut because it didn't make sense within the Alien lore/lifecycle. It also suggests we're a lot closer genetically to the Xeno species than originally thought, not really comfortable with that either if I'm honest (although Davids activities certainly suggest this to be the case)
I think it's far more likely that a Xeno evolved into a Queen once it got far away enough from her to be able to do so!
I love your stuff, keep going! :)
Tbh, I like the idea that we dont see the queen. Ripley had the worlds unluckiest chance of bumping into the queen when looking for newt, deep in the hive, she had the armaments to defend herself. Amanda cannot even fight 1 alien, so her going up against the queen would be silly, or seeing her from a vantage point would be a waste of spectacle. The point of the game was to make you fear the regular xenos, you werent a marine, so youd never have a chance to go up against them. They were the threat, and your only interest is escape, not finding out were they came from.
That being said, I do wish there were *some* hints, maybe when going through the vents in the hive at a particular point of the map, we can hear barley the faint hissing a queen reverberating along the mist filled vents, never seeing....only hearing
Agree.
The strongest hint was the (Royal) Facehugger on the ship called Anisidora. The crew of the Anisidora thought that the Facehugger would be dead, but it was not. It only needed time to recover from it´s first implantation and then tried to use Amanda Ripley as second host for the normal drone.
I hope they do a colonial marines alien game again but think it would be hard to find a balance of being a bad ass but also hunted
I think it's both. Having the first drone molt into a queen wouldn't be ideal, since now there is no way to keep the new victims safe during incubation. I feel like a hive would have to hit a certain population before a queen would be a good investment of resources.
In the insect world ants start out with only a queen and safe guards the first batch of eggs until they hatch. Why not a Xenomorph?
I think the first drone molted into a queen and didn’t use egg morphing. The reason I think this is because when the first alien burst from the Foster’s chest it eventually turns into a full grown drone. Then people start going missing around the station. This would suggest that the xenomorph was being cautious as it was alone and it was likely kidnapping people while they were alone and taking them to the hive. For example, there is an audio tap(right around after consulting with Apollo) where someone is talking about how they sent someone to go fix something by himself in a separate room and that person goes missing. I think the xenomorph kidnapped multiple people and cocooned them so it would have a batch ready to be face hugged when the eggs were ready. With the missing people cocooned the xenomorph then molted into a queen and started laying eggs. When all the missing people had been face hugged and the xenomorphs bursted through them then that would mean there was a queen with a handful of xenomorphs. Which would also explain why the xenomorphs get more and more aggressive. By the time Ripley gets to the station the xenomorphs are risking confronting multiple groups of people by themselves as their is already a stable hive and other xenomorphs. No need to hid and pick of the people going by themselves.
This is supported because when Ripley first discovered the hive after getting off the elevator and finding a flamethrower she says she’s found the missing people. So these are the people who were taken by the first xenomorph. Notice they weren’t egg morphed.
Too me, it makes much more sense for a lone drone to kidnap multiple hosts, cocoon them, then molt into a queen and produce eggs to get face hug the hosts and produce more xenomorphs as soon as possible.
There is (although a random event I recall) a hiss/screech that is VERY difficult from the sounds the Xenomorph Drones make in the game. It freaked me the hell out and, although not seen or directly mentioned, that sound was enough to make me more cautious while playing.
I like the thought that there was a Queen there, but we couldn't see it. Somehow makes the whole experience scarier, knowing that there's something more deadly than the average Aliens and androids in Sevastopol
I personally preordered and played all the dlc, I felt the queen didn’t belong in the story of Isolation, It would’ve been too much. The right decision was made.
Foster's Alien was a queen, not the drone stalking the player.
The developers confirmed there was a queen down in the hive. You can also hear it breathing.
If so, why are there no alien warriors?
@@leonthegodfather6616 Because the game was based on the first movie only. Also, warriors are not a separate type of xeno, they are older drones who've shed their exoskeleton and grown a more armoured exoskeleton - James Cameron confirmed this for Aliens.
I would of liked a segment where you as the player would have to run and hide from the Queen shortly after stumbling upon her birthing chamber, or even a segment that has you run from her while doing everything in your power to slow her down by locking doors and setting traps till you reach a safe area or something that advances the plot onwards, just a few thoughts I had on the subject.
*The answer: It's both. It is common-knowledge that Facehuggers change the DNA of their embryo to create a Queen when necessary - the Queen then starts a Hive. In the absence of a Queen, a Drone can capture hosts and turn them into Eggs, or the Drone can turn into a Queen - all to ensure the continuation of the Xenomorph species.*
I remember reading that the developers didn’t want the game to end w/ a typical big boss fight and they felt a confrontation w/ the Queen would’ve been too overwhelming for Amanda who wasn’t a soldier. Also, I think the thought of the Queen being there and remaining unseen adds another layer of fear during initial gameplay 🔥 just my pov 👻
But the presence of alien warriors who form in the presence of an alien queen to protect her highness's hive does not give a strong indication.
I love this game and the whole franchise. A inclusion of the queen in the hive level would have been cool and it would have been great to see a Queen in the background behind a invisible wall or something. Even if it wasn't to appear in the game. A little nod or anything to confirm that there was in fact a queen on Sevastopol would have been nice and something I would appreciate alot. Ultimately I conpletely understand the absence of the queen because after all, This was supposed to be a survival/horror game. Having a Queen boss battle would have been too random for me.
The idea of an Royal Facehugger could be the final answer of this question. Remember some terminal reports about Foster, that has stated that the crew of the Anesidora has found the facehugger, who seemed to be dead. Later when Amanda Ripley arrived on board the Anesidora she discovered one active facehugger, but only one. The dead corpse of the facehugger that implanted the embryo in Foster was nowhere to find. This is an hint about an Facehugger that is able to implant 2 embryos. The Royal Facehugger. The queen was there from the beginning of the catastrophe on Sevastopol Station
Love the videos Huge Fan!
She's down there but I think not showing her was the right move. It was actually scarier without the Queen.
Playing Isaolation, and throwing the Alien into space, I've felt "there's more". Hovever seeing the hive was so terryfying, that I didn't even considered Alien Queen beeing in there. Just wanted to set the reactor for purge, and get the f... out of this Sevastopol station.
The least they could have done is allowed the queen to make an appearance in the game Amanda didn't have to fight her
I would have liked to encounter the Queen. I also would have liked a sequel to this game. But we can't have everything I guess. :/
The way i look at it: Eggmorphing is what a lone drone does when it's hatched into a completely new environment or when it's hive gets wiped out. Sort of like a last-ditch failsafe to prevent a hive from dying out completely if the queen and hatchery gets terminated or is otherwise unavailable. It finds living creatures and uses them to morph a couple of new eggs, some of which will be drones to help the first drone and at least one will be a queen to get the hive going for real. I imagine it's probably very taxing for a lone drone to both generate the "creep" (star craft reference for lack of a better word) that makes up the lair AND initiating/overseeing the morphing process for new eggs though so i'm not sure how effective the eggmorphing stratedgy is in the long term from the viewpoint of a single drone. It would be interesting to know if a drone can morph new eggs indefinitely or if there's some sort of limit before it can't take any more and dies.
Either way, that's how i look at it. It's just my personal theory and i could very well be wrong :)
