I was raised Presbyterian, but today I dont really think id classify myself as any sort of specific religion but rather noticing all of the similarities in most of them and finding the common threads and beauty of message and meaning. But that church I grew up in was such a good and wholesome place. My minister, Janet, was a major influence on my life and personal beliefs. I became a deacon of the church and I remember so vividly the "laying of the hands" which is when everyone in the congregation places hands on one anothers shoulders that all lead to the people being confirmed. While this happened this song was song by the whole congregation in a resounding and triumphant hopeful tone. It moved me to tears then and it still does today. Whatever we believe, our duty as humans is to serve the great oneness that guides us all and calls us to help one another. We should all choose to answer that call in our own way.
Good to hear this beautiful music sung the way it was written. It's not a song, it's a Hymn, which is a Prayer set to Music. Some of the mucked-about versions of this are little more than an ego trip for people who spoil beautiful music by changing tempo and phrasing. Beatifully sung here in Hexham.
Beautiful! I'm a Muslim and used to teach in a Catholic High School. The students and practicing teachers were always singing this song during religious assemblies and I love it!
That is the moral relativist strain since the 60's speaking. Jesus didn't say, "Oh, okay, whatever you want to do is okay, you're mostly a good person. So you're okay., WHERE you are." God gave COMMANDMENTS, not suggestions, and admonishes us to be better, get right with Him, not stay "Where we are!" So, you are NOT CORRECT. God loves you, yes, you are molded in His image.......but, to believe in what the Quran teaches, HARDLY will God, not Allah, but God, approve. Sorry to bust your 60's hippie bubble. It's not the way it works in the Real World.
Robert Day You can be in any location when you believe in God & accept Jesus as your Savior, but afterwards, you'll never be where you were in life. You'll certainly know where you're going when you die. Thanks & glory be to God!
You need to regain your faith for what is it to gain the whole world but lose your soul. I'm going to pray that you see the light...the light of the one true Savior...Jesus Christ. Love Brother Darryl Laake
@@bransharpe2327 This is the kind of forceful attitude that moved me away from church and God. It will happen when it happens; and it will be beautiful. Love to all
This video never ceases to inspire because all of the people are singing with strong affirmation of their faith. The choir is wonderful, but so is the congregation as obviously many of them are also singers.
I sang this - in a hospital ward in Southmead Hospital in North Bristol. Just 70 hours after a fairly serious operation. I had been scared beforehand. But this - and the Wells Cathedral Choir - recorded it just prior to the operation. And it helped hugely.
This is my favorite of the renditions of this beautiful and moving hymn--because of the participatory singing. The people are genuinely SINGING! Hallelujah!
MAGNIFICENT! I've NEVER heard it performed with more beauty ... fervor! And yes, at precisely 1:23 mid-screen I saw my face fifty some years ago - a blond boy in a red cassock - with the notable exception that this is a GOOD lad ... he did not position black licorice over his teeth as I did - for which I was booted from the choir:) THANK YOU for sharing the JOY, My Brit Cousins across the Pond! Hugs and HAPPY NEW YEAR from the Colonies! Timmo/USA
My little grandma was in her 70s when the Wycliffee Bible Translators asked her to participate in the Summer Linguistics Institute at the University of Oklahoma in the 1950s. I will never forget that she answered the call of the Lord willingly. She was a Kiowa Indian. Whatever contribution she made to the linguistics institute has added to the work of translating Scriptures to non-English speaking societies. I think of her when I hear this song.
in 2008 He asked me to went to someplace i won't go. God said by this song in every where i went to church even went to other church. i read His message to me. Then i went to Bali... and i saw the sky was dark, no flowers at all? no hope, nobody here... but now i saw He made the rainbows after the rain. He is Lord of sea and sky. The Almighty God.. Praise the lord !...
My Mother passed away Sept 30, 2000 in her sleep. I lived with her from Dec 1999 till after she died, to help my Stepdad out. He didn't even know how to use the washing machine, write a check or nothing. I stayed with him till the end of Feb, and made notes by the washer and dryer for him to follow . This was sung when we came into the church behind her casket. So.appropriate. It was just beautiful. Here I am Lord sounded like she was singing it to us.
As a Catholic, I love this hymn sing so powerfully. Yet, I always feel challenged by it. Am I saying 'Here I am Lord ' and meaning it today ? With Her grace only, I will. ☘️
This has always been my favorite song to hear during mass. I still get the feeling, when I hear the music start, that I did when I was a child. This video was beautifully done, the church and all her people are amazing as well, God bless.
Beautiful, Magnificent,I Love it!! The church I attended closed in 2004, I still mourn the loss. They had a beautiful choir also and had a full church every week, I still do not understand why it was shut down. A shame, it stands empty. Most of us have not found a new place of worship that comes close to what we had.
I will give my life to them! Whom shall I send? At 1:49 thru 1:55 look at the three precious young Brit faces that appear as these words are sung. Picture them as North Korean kids, Iranian kids, Russian kids or any country's kids. Look at the world we're giving them and weep, and keep sharing the GOOD News of the NEW world our God has promised them IN CHRIST JESUS! It's bedtime in the Colonies, but I'm bound by emotion. A reminder to old folks like me: To a timeless God we're STILL His KIDS:)
This is fabulous. It is a highly expressive, moving hymn that speaks to our relationship with God; and here it is sung by people who really sing! Hallelujah--it's recorded with balance so that we can actually hear them doing so!
My primary school would always sing this in the leavers assembly for yr 6s, always had me crying especially when it was my turn to leave. Now as a yr11 who has just finished secondary school this song is still beautiful
There have been many failing in the English church. There have also been bright shining lights. The hymns of the English church are among those lights. Those hymns echo the faith that brought us followers of Christ like: Hudson Taylor John Stott Gladys Aylward The Cambridge Seven C.S. Lewis Eric Liddell John and Charles Wesley God bless England.
I think this is the most beautiful version of a wonderful hymn. Just listen to the words. And to my amazement I knew someone in the congregation-someone i met when I was 13 and who died a couple of years ago. It was wonderful to see her.
Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever. - Daniel 12:3
Christianity still thrives in England? Who knew. These people are so much more impressive than the wimpy participation I have seen in the United States churches. Bravo.
YUUUP, it seems like a big difference from the USA to other countries. Here most people dont have time to worship GOD anymore AND I get mad when Christmass or Easter come and the ones that dont go to church all year long come... Like the priest said, how come everyone rushes to get front row at a ballgame or concert BUT for GOD they blow him off I call them hiporates AND yes every sunday i go to church and i try to raise my 2 sons to be good catholic
beeney2 Apparently those rituals were only that, rituals. Never mind confessing to another human. Only God can forgive and He listens to prayer & confession 24/7. Why carry burdens when we can give them to God ANY time? People who have a true relationship with Jesus will naturally want to go worship Him. Communion, Catechism, confession & confirmation are useless without Salvation. Suggest another type church where your daughter can learn about having an actual relationship with CHRIST.
Joe Mangano The Lord Jesus died for those who only come at Christmas and Easter. Church leaders when they interpret the scriptures make Jesus come alive in the hearts of nominal Christians, and they become faithful followers. Calling someone a hypocrite won’t win them for Christ. There is plenty to do that will bring them to a faithful relationship with the Saviour.
The great challenge for every believer is the sanctity of human life. Each and every follower of Jesus has a duty to stop abortion. Save the baby, help the ladies and stop the crazies for Jesus. Amen ?
@Legovv & aquaria85: The aim of this program (Songs of Praise) is to make sing congregations: they choose with the Priest an hymn that the congregation knows and use to sing and ther make several rehearsals before the broadcast. I will probably post some more of this program, I have a video where the congegation sings in 6 voices!
I think you are right, because the 'congregation' sing as if they are used to singing, moreover, the men and woman are split, probably according to their voice type. Is this maybe some choir congress?
Désolé qu'on entende pas plus le chœur, mais j'adore ce cantique, c'est vraiment mon préféré dans le English Hymnal. Sorry that we do not see more the choir, but I love this hymn, it is my favourite in the English Hymnal.
I heard this video during a cancer treatment and it helped me so much. Thank you
When the voices of hundreds join together to praise Him it is extremely powerful. Thankyou from Canada.

I can't stand the conservative Christians contemporary version where they slide into their pitches all over the place...this is a good one.

slide, sopranos, 2:07. ;P
James Poppleton That's very different from sliding into EVERY SINGLE PITCH.
Uplifting...
@@baritonebynight Yeah, count on those people to screw up perfectly good traditional worship music with their touchy-feely garbage.
We sang this this morning in church. Tears were streaming. I do love your people, Lord. Lead me! Amen!
Love the way their faces are as deeply moved as their voices..Magnificent worship to our Almighty God!Thanks much♡

Great song... there is another interesting version of this live at mass I think by "Saint Mary Schola".
I like the Nordic choir singing thus song.
“Ask me, and I will make the nations your inheritance,
the ends of the earth your possession.”
(Psalm 2:8, NIV)
Sang this a few times. The tempo has sped up a bit over the years.Originally slower.

Abc Bcde 2 Timothy4 ‘Proclaim the message and , welcome or unwelcome , insist on it’. Beautiful babies are made in the image and likeness of God.

Those whose opinions differ from yours' Martin. Actually everyone is entitled to an opinion so 'they' is everyone in this context.
