This was song at my son’s Funeral. I am in tears. RIP, my Chris
I am, too, for you. You will meet again. Blessings on you.
We should never have to bury our children. This hymn was always sung at our church when my son died. 😢 it came up on my feed and I thought of him immediately. Then I seen your comment........ May the MOST HIGH CREATOR comfort you at this very sad time❤
🤍
Great to hear our Lutheran brethren singing a Catholic Hymn. Music transcends sectarian boundaries! Praised be Jesus Christ!
Thank you beautiful choir ❤
This song was sung during the service of my baptism as a child. It’s speaks to my heart in so many ways.
Such a meaningful Song…
Every time I sing this hymn it makes me cry. It’s has if the Lord is speaking to me. Thank You for the beautiful hymn. In times of the stress in this World. Play this tune. It makes the world a better place
THERE ARE ANGELS WALKING AMONG US EVERYDAY SO NEVER FEAR JUST SMILE ,BE KIND AND GIVE THANKS FOR EVERYTHING NOMATTER WHAT. WOW!!!
This brought me to tears as well. Such beautiful words, such beautiful voices, I can only hope that it touched the hearts of those singing it.
That was a wonderful performance. Also, a magnificent arrangement here. The changes in tempo, the perfect intonation of all the singers, the dynamics, etc. Cannot say enough about it. Thank you for this experience.
😊I will ask for this son to be sung with lyrics at my Celebration of Life service. I pray the At heaven’s entrance I can be heard saying, “Hear I am, Lord” Amen😊
I was seeing Ovid Young at the piano in my mind. Wonderful gift he had. A kind and humble man.
I, The Lord Of Sea And Sky,
I Have Heard My People Cry.
All Who Dwell In Dark And Sin,
My Hand Will Save.
I Who Made The Stars Of Night,
I Will Make Their Darkness Bright.
Who Will Bear My Light To Them?
Whom Shall I Send?
Here I Am Lord, Is It I, Lord?
I Have Heard You Calling In The Night.
I Will Go Lord, If You Lead Me.
I Will Hold Your People In My Heart.
I, The Lord Of Snow And Rain,
I Have Borne My People’s Pain.
I Have Wept For Love Of Them, They Turn Away.
I Will Break Their Hearts Of Stone,
Give Them Hearts For Love Alone.
I Will Speak My Word To Them
Whom Shall I Send?
Here I Am Lord, Is It I, Lord?
I Have Heard You Calling In The Night.
I Will Go Lord, If You Lead Me.
I Will Hold Your People In My Heart.
I, The Lord Of Wind And Flame
I Will Tend The Poor And Lame.
I Will Set A Feast For Them,
My Hand Will Save
Finest Bread I Will Provide,
Till Their Hearts Be Satisfied.
I Will Give My Life To Them,
Whom Shall I Send?
Here I Am Lord, Is It I, Lord?
I Have Heard You Calling In The Night.
I Will Go Lord, If You Lead Me.
I Will Hold Your People In My Heart.
May I thank you for posting this? It has reduced me to tears to see these precious young people sing this so beautifully. To God be the glory!
What an incredible performance! The conductor and pianist are absolutely on the same page here, and both are true artists. The choir is a reflection of that artistry, and with their energy, the combination is hard to beat. I've lost track of how many times I've listened to this. I think it's the best arrangement and recording of the piece I've ever heard. Thank you, Luther College, for being champions, not only of the Gospel, but of fine choral music.
Thank you for your kind words, Bill, they are greatly appreciated. Soli Deo Gloria!
The National youth choir of scotland also do a good version.
Her I Am Lord, Is it I Lord. Loved this song we sang in our choir for yrs too beautifully done 👍🙏
Glad we could remind you of some wonderful memories!

Glad you enjoyed, Susan!
Best version of this song I’ve heard.
looking for my choirs version and this is about 65% of that : (
Great singing, great conducting and great accompanying. God bless you all!
Gives me joy to watch youngsters singing so very joyously. My first with a choir was at age 14, that was 55years ago. I still sing with Delhi Christian chorus, India
Listening from the Philippines. Beautiful rendition! This was sung at my ordination at Immanuel Lutheran Church (Lutheran Church in the Philippines) Thank you!
This is Sung at All My Relatives Funerals; as is Always Requested. Not only is the Funeral so so Sad of course; and this Particular Piece "Here I Am Lord" just breaks Our Hearts to Tears.
Thank you for sharing that, Marie, what a heartfelt piece!
But we should work for him on earth..some hymns are a little misunderstood..
I was strumming my guitar and singing ‘Here I am’ my mom a week ago as she peacefully slipped away. We grew up in Elm grove with Dan Schutte and mom woke up singing this about 5 years ago, thus becoming one off my ;go to; songs every morning with my mom, Shirl the Pearl
A Beautiful "new hymn" as it were. I first heard this about ten years ago, when it was introduced at a Sunday morning service at my own church, and I have loved it ever since.
Amazing! Truly beautiful! It was an absolute privilege to have my ears listen to that!
Thank you and God bless, from Sri Lanka

HOLY BIBLE - ‘ HERE İ AM. Lord. ‘
This was at my mums funeral.. love the song but I’m 100% atheist now.. still though it meant a lot back then
"Here I Am, Lord"
I, the Lord of sea and sky
I have heard my people cry
All who dwell in dark and sin
My hand will save
I, who made the stars of night
I will make their darkness bright
Who will bear my light to them?
Whom shall I send?
Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord?
I have heard you calling in the night
I will go, Lord, if you lead me
I will hold your people in my heart
I, the Lord of snow and rain
I have borne my people's pain
I have wept for love of them
They turn away
I will break their hearts of stone
Give them hearts for love alone
Who will speak my word to them
Whom shall I send?
Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord?
I have heard you calling in the night
I will go, Lord, if you lead me
I will hold your people in my heart
I, the Lord of wind and flame
I will tend the poor and lame
I will set a feast for them
My hand will save
Finest bread I will provide
'Til their hearts be satisfied
I will give my life to them
Whom shall I send?
Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord?
I have heard you calling in the night
I will go, Lord, if you lead me
I will hold your people in my heart
What a beautiful text!
Bravo 👏
Thanks Kenneth!
linda execuçao..musical.
Muito obrigado!
👏🙌✝️
Excellent performance. Warm, touching and full of the intended meaning. Excellent precision and balance. But why no mention of the conductor and the pianist, both excellent?
Hi Simeon, thanks for pointing this out. The description has been updated!
Hi Mark Potvin, this is so beautiful! I am proud to say that I knew you since you were that little lovely boy! I wish I could sing in a college choir......
Beautiful!
Pretty arrangement, true to the original. Love how they're all holding hands. Where can I get the sheet music?
CHRIST.
you should definitely mention the pianist by name ! My compliments to all of you !
Thanks for the suggestion, Adrian, we will start doing that! This piece is accompanied by Dr. Nicholas Shaneyfelt.
This is a really beautiful rendition of a powerful and challenging song. Great arrangement, sung with conviction. Just a plea for those, who are deaf or hard of hearing. Please include captions so they have access to those wonderful words we all can hear. Why caption the title, writer and arranger at the beginning and the vidoe and not caption the lyrics? All need to have access to THE MESSAGE. God bless you, Lyn Lockrey, Australia.
Words clear ,so meaningful, but would still like text for more impact. As in Songs of Praise BBC.
Hi I’m in England and we are not allowed to sing hymns in church at the moment. It is my Grandad’s funeral next week and he would have loved this. Is there anyway you could send me the video/ audio to allow me to have it played during his funeral? Thank you so much

A pleasent performance but, never forget that a Hymn is a Prayer set to Music. It is not meant to be a theatrical performance. Here is a UA-cam link to that same Hymn sung at the correct tempo, as written by the composer. ua-cam.com/video/yhTpjdrLf0s/v-deo.html Be honest about which one honours the Lord as American composer Dan Schutte intended when he wrote it in 1979.
No thanks, this one is definitely the best, beautiful voices, wonderful arrangement.
too much vibrato yak
Charlotte Whyte no I think it is beautiful and natural
What’s a vibrato?
It’s perfect.
You are too much
