Meprolight FT Bullseye: What It Is...And What It Isn't

- In this final video about the Meprolight FT Bullseye sight, I discuss what it is, and more importantly, what it isn't...to put it another way, what it's good at and what it isn't, and the reasons why.

Excellent review with all the high & low points that one should be thinking about with this sight.
+Andrew Friedman
Thanks. Yeah, it is definitely not for everyone. It performs its intended use very well, but is definitely not the most versatile sight.
Just had one placed on my G21 love it!
Great, unbiased, non-promotional review. Thanks.
I've now watched both your videos on this sight. Very informative. Thank you. +1 subscriber.

I appreciate it man. Glad they were helpful to you.
Great review. Thanks for the useful perspective!

Glad it was helpful for you. Thanks for watching.
Super great review! Real informative and to the point! Thank you
Glad to help!
Getting ready to put the green FT on my P220. Going to blackout my front sight, to see if I fire without focusing on it. Thank you for the reviews, they helped me make an informed choice.

Glad I could help out. Removing the front sight really helped me out in my utilization of this sight. Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy the sight.
These are a great alternative for small, CCW guns like the Shield, P365, G43/48, Hellcat, etc. that aren't optic ready. The philosophy of use for most of these guns is personal defense at engagement distances of under 25 yds max. These are a great alternative to getting your slide milled for a dot (and the added bulk on a small gun) or upgrading the traditional 3 dot sights. Looks like it'd be great for point shooting.
100%. If my pistol were optic ready, I'd definitely go that route. I didn't want to pay to have the slide milled, so this was a nice low profile alternative.
~I have placed my order for one of these Sights. I'm looking forward to have it arrive next week.
~This is a unique Sight. Since I don't do precision shooting, Defensive Combat Accuracy is fine with me.
It works great for that purpose.
Well Sig liked these sights so much, they put them on their P365 SAS. The only difference is they milled the slide so the sight system is flush. I am interested in this concept.
They aren't for everybody...that's for sure. If it's strictly a self-defense gun and you don't plan on doing any kind of precision shooting with it, they work great.
Thanks for this review based on your opinion & also the cost I went a different route for sights..
All good...they aren't for everyone. In all honesty, while I still have these on my Glock 19, I probably wouldn't buy another set for any of my others because it does limit what you can do with a pistol...I like my stuff to be a little but more versatile.
@@TacticalSwede I ended up going with the see all open sights..
just got one for my Glock 17 great sight. extremely handy once you get used to it....personal threat sight perfect.
One of the problems with this is that it’s such a foreign concept to anything else on the market. I think it’s very impressive!
great series! i learned a lot and you answered my questions in this vid. thanks for the great job!
altho' it was easy for me to find the 3 vids to this series, you still might want to provide links back to the 1st vid in the description area of vids 2 and 3 and on the 1st vid page provide links to the 2nd and 3rd vid.

I appreciate the suggestion...I'll do that.
I'm glad the videos were helpful for you. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Good points
Thanks for your opinion. I'm 59 and really need some better sights on my self-defense guns. I have a Browning HP and it can't be cut for a dovetail front sight but I do have a dovetail on the back. This looks like a perfect solution!
+always tinkering
Glad it was helpful for you.
I wrote to the company and asked for info about fitting it to my Browning but they have not responded. They make one for a Remington that has a curved receiver top like the Browning. It looks like it would fit but I don't want to spend $200 until I'm sure. Does anyone have one of these on a Remington?
@@alwaystinkering7710 What did you do with your sight selection? and how'd it turn out?
@@richardliebespach9557 I never found anything that would fit. I designed my own and had them 3D printed. They aren't perfect but they work.
Browning Highpower! Now we’re talking!!!
very nice!
Just got the XD back. Going sunday to try out the green bullseye. I like it. I totally agree about the front sight. Its a combat close in sight not a rifle. The front sight is Not needed because the parallax is no longer done on the front sight and rear. Its done with two circles. One dot / one ring. The thing is fast and easy to pickup and sight down. Once you see green its left/right/up/down quick to center. Your eye see's the dot and the halo differently. The dot is as it is. And the halo adjusts around. Which is awesome. Its quick. The range of a pistol has always been close in more so anyways. And before at close i generally never worried about sighting i just feel aimed. I work a lot of complex tight spaces often blind to my hands inside of equipment. So i guess i might just have a different hand eye pointing then say someone who works at a bank or a cop or a goodguy tacticool airsofter. But. In the end. Very excited to go to the range sunday and test it.
Other then the original bullshit with the dumbass Amazon seller who sent me a sight CLEARLY MARKED FOR GLOCK, when ordered for SPRINGFIELD, i got it about a month later then i had hoped. But i think it will be worth the hassle. I also love how streamline the XD looks and feels now. I am sure it instantly will make your shots 500 times more powerful and will shoot around corners with your back to it. And increase the magazine cap by 6 rounds just by adding this sight too it.
Just a note!: the gun smith had to mill out the back sight on the XD service in order to install the bullseye. Just so you know for a XD.
I didn't care a bit. I have never liked traditional iron 3 square dot sights. Its old concepts from a time with long barreled revolvers.
+wheatdevon
Cool man. Let me know what you think once you get some rounds through it. I look forward to hearing your thoughts.
How are they holding up?
Same ordeal happen to me sent it back got ordered it at optic sights websites an they shot me a 25% for my next order
@@TacticalSwede I just got notice about this comment and following comments.
I find the sight to not be that bad but I had to spend more time learning not to focus so much on the ring and just point shoot more. honestly. my overall accuracy reduced after switching to the sight to begin with.
Best review
Seams like a good sight option for a glock 43.
do you target focus or sight focus with this sight?
Once you convert to something you haven't ever shot before I have become fast and accurate for almost all defensive conditions
I agree with your assessment. If I aim at the head, I hit the heart which is probably a good thing; I am at the heart, I hit the belly. Mine pins down in the center so there’s no right left play. Bullet hits about 3 inches left of dot at 15yds
Shim the sight. Mine also hit way low. Left and right not a problem. Worked with shims under the rear of the sight. 25 yards on steel plates now hitting them. can hit an IDPA target out to 35 yards no longer a problem. Yes you can't see the target lines, but hold center of mass, they hit either zero or down one. Many times the targets are covered with tee shirts, no problem; no longer concentrating as hard on the sight picture/
do you target focus or sight focus with the meprolight sight? and where does the shot hit? behind the dot or right on top of the site?
+Maximus Joseppi
It is still more of a sight focus than a red dot which is truly threat focus, but it is visible enough that you can threat focus with it. I find with my shooting that my shots hit behind the bullseye rather than above.
Thank you sir. You have helped me to made out my mind; It is not for me.
+Oscar Morales
Yeah, it definitely isn't for everyone...I love it on my everyday carry gun, but I wouldn't put one on anything I want to shoot distance with.
how fast is a target lock vs red dot?
Would you use it for practical shooting competition such as ipsc, idpa, etc? Plus, what normal people would shoot a pistol beyond 50 yards anyway...
I've never done any competition shooting so I'm unsure of the distances involved in those particular disciplines. I will say that this sight shines at distances inside of 10-15yds. Anything past that, accuracy starts to fall off pretty significantly, at least in my experience.
What do you think about using them on a duty weapon. Need to switch to night sights cuz im a 3rd shifter forever. Was gonna go with the Tru Glo TFX pros when i came across these.
+The45Guy 1776
Unfortunately that's a hard question to answer. I've found that this sight is very much a "love it or hate it" kind of sight. Without trying it out in the situations you would need to use it, it's tough to say whether or not you would like it. Also, if you need to do any distance shooting for qualifications, it's not that strong in that area.
I would argue that all sites are worthless for every day carry pistols. If you were ever put into a situation where you have to quickly draw and fire your weapon at a deadly threat coming your direction, who the hell is going to be looking through, and aligning the sites? Nobody who is alive to talk about it at least. Sites and red dots are more for combat, police, and sharp shooters. At the average 7 yards and quickly moving towards you, you’re not gonna look at your sites so it’s safer in my opinion to remove them all-together to avoid the potentials for snag hold ups on the draw. Faster you can get that weapon drawn and bullets traveling in the immediate direction of your deadly threat, the better. “Change my mind!”
Thanks for the video and follow up, I enjoyed your balanced perspective. As it's been a few months any additional info or feedback?
+TheGizmodi
I still have it on my everyday carry gun...I haven't run across anything yet that would make me want to take it off. I find it to be great for a defensive carry gun, but I definitely wouldn't put one on every gun I own though as you do lose that versatility of being able to shoot at distance.
Thanks for that info, its great to hear from someone who lives with it day to day. Thanks again.
My Trijicon HD's and many other larger front dot sights will have the same problem as the target gets further away...the front dot is not small enough to be accurate ...so I'd say this fills the zone between slide mounted red dots and reg. sights..so choose well and live !!
I suspect using bot eyes may solve feont sight issue.
Funny story so Springfield xd sights are difficult x 3 to remove i removed the rear took me an hour tried getting the front sight off .. yeah broke off so cannot put a front sight so i bought these sights boom life saver these work perfect on my xd 45 service model took some practice but i love em
They do take a little getting used to, but they work great once you get the hang of it.
Thanks for the review, looks very interesting. How do you like the trigger?
+TheGizmodi
Love it. Huge improvement over the stock trigger in both feel and function...and it looks good too.
Tactical Swede - have you used Big Dots? If yes - how do they compare to these as far as having poor eyesight? If no, do you think FT's are helpful for poor eyesight?
+LeRoy
It is very easy to pick up the sight, so I think it would work well for someone with poor eyesight...but again I have to stress that it is NOT a great sight for shooting at any kind of distance. 15 yds and closer is where it really excels, but out to 25 yds it still does ok. Anything outside of that, I would say Big Dots are a much better option.
At 30 yards, is it likely that you could consistently shoot 5" groups? (That's the distance from my church pulpit to the sound booth)... If I have to use my gun to stop an active shooter at church, I need to be able to do that.
You should ideally be able to do that with no sights. Give or take haha.
@@jordancox559 you speak big words how about proving that you can do what you say people should be able to do? Shoot a video and post it, showing that you have a handgun with no sights and a clean target 30 yards away... shoot at least 5 shots then show us your group... all-in-one continuous video done with no editing no splicing or anyting so that we know that you have not faked it
Yeah big words. Like ideally. And no. Also and. Crazy big words. 😂😂 Imagine asking someone on the internet to prove a random statement lmfao.
What are your thoughts today .. Are you still using it on your EDC ..
I disagree somewhat with your 50 yard assessment. When you practice at that distance, know what the sight bullseye looks like. The inner circle will be touching and somewhat missing the top of the outer circle. Just takes practice and learning the sight picture at particular distances. No different than adjusting your 3-dot sights...
It’s most important to know what something isn’t?
Are you still using the FT Bullseye? If not, how did it hold up? What were the reasons you switched?
Pros and cons a few years later?
I still have it on the G19 and it still works great. I stand by my comments in the video that it works amazing at normal self-defense distances (0-15 yds). Past that, you will see diminishing returns, so I wouldn't install one on anything that you would like to have the option of shooting at distance...not that you CAN'T shoot at distance with this, but it's not as good as other options such as traditional or red-dot sights.
@@TacticalSwede Perfect, I just installed one on a "new to me" Glock 26 Gen 4. Thanks for the review and the comment. Subd and liked.
@@wesgreer4983 how do you like them?
On sale now $129 :)
Ok, so what about hitting an 8 inch target at 25 yards? Are you able to do that with this sight?
Could I hit it? Yes. Could I hit it dead center? Maybe. Could I hit it dead center consistently? No.
It really depends on what your definition of "accuracy" is. To some people accuracy means putting holes in holes and shooting quarter sized groups. To me, accuracy means can I consistently hit a torso sized target at reasonable self-defense distances.
I agree. I'm looking for a sight that I can use to hit an 8 inch circle target at 25 yards. That is what I will have to do in April to pass firearms instructor school. Just looking for different sight options..
So. Just did 200 rounds. And. My assessment is.... kinda like it. Kinda don't like it. With iron sights i was fairly okay. I seemed to spend time trying to figure out where i was hitting verse aiming. I seem to be firing maybe lower then i am aiming for centering up and trying to take my time aiming. Up close i just feel shoot anyways. I figure man sized target if i can group the size smaller then that of a persons face on the face i am happy. If i can group that on the center of the chest i am happy. I have been fairly decent before with iron sights. This one will just take readjusting to the height difference and the alignment. It feels to me that if i timed my shots. I would be faster. And slower to acquiring the center of the target. Its just funky.
At this point in time. I don't feel it a bad sight. Just one i need to spend more time getting a tuned too. As it stands now. I have too many misplaced holes where i would have previously not had them. I am firing a .45 acp. And i am use to it. And it generally goes where i point it. But i just need to figure out the best way to point it. I also dont have the front sight on anymore. And i did feel like i was also trying to aquire that in my picture. I kinda wish they would have made the bullseye portion slightly more pronounced compared to the way it is now. Raised it. Like a bump. Or...? Make the groves deeper to propionate more sight picture in the view. Right now. If you focus on the sight you loose the target. Is you focus on the target you lose the sight. Shooting with both eyes open has too much dominance to one eye or the other and you cant cross eye the squares to compare the sight anymore. (Maybe thats not the way to describe it)
Maybe on a glock with a smaller and lower slide its not as pronounced. But on the XD its fairly low profile but still seems to block out too much target.
Again. I can say. I like it. And i dislike it. But before i condemn it. I will shoot more courses and more money down range before i make a final assessment.
As it sits. I still wouldn't stress it as the greatest most precise sight. But. In combat or close in. Its all your feelings with the gun anyway. You may never even get the chance to bring that weapon up to eye level if you are up close to someone. Maybe? What they should do? Is combine it with a nice low-profile green laser? I don't know. ?...
I still feel. A pistol is what you use when you don't have the advantage or fighting to a long barrel. If i were a cop and only carried a sidearm. At this stage in my assessment. I wouldn't knock out my iron sights for this sight hoping its the cats meow just yet.
But! Hey! If i want to change it. I now have my hard ass springfield rear sight out of the dovetail. Thats like 90% of the work done.
What you suggest this sight
How is this with speed shooting?
Uh Oh.. light bulbs going off.. due to time issues I've only had mine to the range one time, I was shooting way left, and moved it over right as far as I could and was still hitting very far left. It was quick lunch break shoot so did not sweat it, thinking I was just off that day and being very rushed to try it out went home and did not worry about it. You mentioning just how little adjustment just moving the rear with no front is going to affect POI now has me concerned...
+James SEMO
I actually misspoke in the video...with this sight you want to move it in the direction you are off. If you are hitting left, you want to move it left. Again though...if you are very far left, the little bit of adjustment available may not be enough...if you are still that far off, I'd contact Meprolight and see if they can send you a new sight.
Wow I'll try that first, makes perfect sense moving opposite direction from what I'm used to. Just years of having that darn front sight had conditioned me wrong. Thanks!
+James SEMO
Yeah that's why I made the mistake in the video...was thinking about traditional sights.
Adjustability? As opposed to standard Glock sights?
I have this sight but I need to shoot low instead of having the dot directly in the middle. Who has this problem?
+Andre Rose
I don't see this in my own shooting, but I have definitely heard other people say the same.
Huh I never had the problem of looking at the front sights with this on.
There are actually adjustment screws for elevation and windage , and if you trench cut it gets even lower to the barrel and more accurate
Not on mine there aren't. There are only 2 screws on top and they are for tightening it down.
This is a great site and he agrees because he took the front site off and still uses it. Yet a skilled shooter can shoot from any distance and yet he keeps using it. Go to the actual website and watch the videos. And if Master chief Navy Seal uses one I stand and have nothing more to say other then the hand is an extension of your sword/firearm etc... if you want to hit your target then you’ll do fine and with practice far more efficient. And he carries it as his EDC lol
This video would be great if I wasn't using my psa rock 5.7 bullet travels so fast a 50 yard shot group is the least of your worries, I got my front sight meprolight bullseye and I co witness a laser and a Romero zero rear sight optic co witnessing that! ,It teleports my groups.
What he talks about at about 6 minutes. Is the same problem you have with the meprolight M21 reflex sight as well.
jago668
YEAH, any tritium sight is going to suffer in that scenario...the only way to combat this is to step up to something battery powered.
Have you used an m21 with the polarizer? It fixes the issue. I'm trying to think of a defensive scenario where you are within the typical 10yds (5 really) in the dark and your target is in bright light. Seems like a very specific scenario
@@nateb4543 I have not, the one I used was years ago and was a local bring your toys range day. Ran into the issue because of the range setup. I tend to use either an Aimpoint T2, or a Trijicon SRO on my stuff. There are some nice fiber/tritium sights out there, just hard to beat the T2 or SRO.
@@jago668 havent had the pleasure. This bs hit me at an all time ammo low and I cant bring myself paying almost $1/rd for 5.56/.223. Needless to say I didn't shoot much this last year
Super hard to find the ring in the dark. you have no reference point.
I took mine off and put truglo's in. I throw em on here and there I use it as conversation starter kinda thing.
Its fancy nutn
Your group size will shrink with practice and time as you retrain your brain.
Dude put a crimson trace on it! Problem solves for distance.
Who needs a sight at a couple feet distance 😂😂
if it is hard accure a fromt site then use a front site. rmr are the same.
There is NO practical use for a handgun at 50 yards anyway, so the sight not being practical at that range is irrelevant.
Not everything has to serve a "practical" purpose. A lot of people just enjoy target shooting. I've seen plenty of people shoot pistols at 50-100 yards. If you are using a pistol for that purpose, this sight is not a good choice.
there isnt any adjustment on the stock sight either...
Yes there is...for windage. Drifting the rear sight left or right can give you quite a bit of windage adjustment.
How does it do at 25 yard silhouette targets? Security and police have to get hits inside the square on a silhouette at 25 yards and closer.
+Keith Whisman
25 is right at what I would consider the upper limit of this sight accuracy wise. It excels at 15 yds and in, but I can still hit at 25 depending on the size of the target...life size silhouette...yes. Anything smaller and accuracy will start to suffer.
I wish I didn't buy a g19 with these on it for $150 more. I didn't know anything about these sights. Couldn't hit target at 25-30 yards and couldn't figure out why. Pulled out my other pistol with 3 dot sights and hit it a couple times. Anyone wanna buy red sight mepros? Lol
No, moving this sight a quarter inch to the right will not move your point of impact a quarter inch to the right. Moving it right puts your point of impact to the left 🤦♂️
Yes, you are correct, I misspoke in the video and in the original upload, I had an annotation stating that, but UA-cam has since done away with annotations, so the correction is no longer there. The main point I was trying to make is there is much less adjustability with this then a traditional 3 dot sight...as I said, only maybe 1/4 inch at most.
I don't need sights at self defense range
Wrong! Lmfao you have to adjust your visual sight in order to hit longer range targets. Fellas look, you want to get better at shooting don’t follow gamers who own real guns in order to become better. Look at vigilance elite or anyone he is following in order to not only become better but better at life follow these men. This is a horrible review if you know firearms
You don't know what you are talking about.
Please, enlighten me...
You do NOT know what you are taking about!!!! IT IS NOT FOR CQC, sights are use to get accuracy. SMH.
You're entitled to your opinion. In my practical experience actually using this sight, it is NOT a good sight to use if you want pinpoint accuracy...especially at distance. It works GREAT at quickly placing multiple center mass shots at normal self-defense distances.
It's a sucky concept and will remain a sucky concept. This product was a gimmick from jumpstreet and most all know this yet purchased it - anyway...Get real and stay real.
+CutTheKnot
Different strokes for different folks...
a solution to a non problem. in close defensively any shooter could, or should, be able to shoot looking over the slide. lets not mince words.
so this is a sucky concept and a gimmick from jump street so I ask you this will you stand 50 yards away from me and let me use this sucky gimmick to see if I could take you out I would bet NOT........
