I don't really know but I believe the Meprolight sight is anodized aluminum so what rusted was your gun. This would have been due to moisture that collected between the sight and your top side. The dimming is interesting. With a fiber optic window I don't know what would deteriorate except the window or fiber became more opaque and transmitted less light. I can see a couple of fixes but good information.

If the slide rusted as well it means he got sweat or something corrosive in there, also not oiled well for sure, so definitely not a problem with the sight in particular, more like a bad maintained gun

This has been on my want list for a while. I was just about to order one today for my EDC. (BTW $149 @ OpticsPlanet). I was doing my due diligence research before I click that buy button when I came across your review. This has opened my eyes to factors I had not considered. A big THANK YOU to you. I do have a RedDot, the Burris FastFire 3. Couldn't be happier with it. 3 years so far and not had to change the battery yet. Groups about the size of a hamburger patty at 25 yards consistently. Smaller if braced on a rest.

Russ Joslin NICE I’m happy I could help! I’m saving up slowly but surely to get a red dot. I have my eye on the holosun red dot. Looks pretty sweet. How long did it take for you to get adjusted to that red dot ?

I just installed one last week and thanks to this video, I put a few drops of gun oil on the slide where the FT Bullseye would be in direct contact with the slide. High hopes for this little sight. Big fan of the way it feels when drawing, pressing out and seeing that bright green bullseye looking back at me. Living in Colorado, I'm hoping the dryness will help prevent the rusting like you experienced.
    Thanks for the review!

It's assuming that that the sight rusted then spread to the Glock, when it could very well be the other way around. Gen 4 Glocks were known to have variable finishes, and some were more prone to corrosion.

The first one I bought came sighted 8in low and 3-4in left. Sent it back for warranty and got a new one that came in centered. Great sight. But now there's moisture on the inside of the lens. Just wrote Meprolight to see what they can do or what I can do to clean and dry the inside. Nice review. I'm thinking of going back to traditional sights. I like the ones you've gotm

So did Meprolight ever respond about this issue and say whether they've added a new coating to prevent this or if this is a known issue?

SIG announced putting these as standard equipment on P365 SAS. It's going to be quite funny if rust issues crop up there.

I am considering this sight, and am curious if you contacted Meprolight about these issues? I'm wondering if the issues you have experienced are commonplace or is this an outlier situation. Thanks.

I just bought one on sale for 95 bucks to dick around with. I noticed the screw on your TFX sights were rusted as well. Have your taken apart your slide and noticed any corrosion as well? It's something i'll keep an eye on.

Yea... you can barely see the ring. This is exactly why I was afraid to drop over $100. You rented a sight for 1 year, for $270.. because you have to put a $100 in to restore the original condition

I love the concept behind these bulleye meprolights. But I feel they are about $65-70 overpriced... I would be scared of breaking it or not working like you. I would need a 100% lifetime warranty at the price they want. Might as well get a red dot at what they want
