It is so important to share our parents and grandparents recipes and cooking tips. A dying art in the modern world, unfortunately. I never underestimate the role of the traditional woman and wife in the home, they are the backbone of society. Thanks for keeping it real and preserving our British culture. 😊👍
This reminds me of my mum in law, who passed away about 4 years ago and was from Stanley in C.Durham; she always made bacon and egg pie that was gorgeous. She also said "fillum" too!
Just like my mother used to make and now I make it like that too. My mother taught me so much about using leftovers too, so there is very little food waste in our house at all - it's mostly eggshells and stuff like onion skin, that sort of thing. I taught both my son and daughter all these things too - being economical like this has helped them through quite a few "lean"times.
Being Irish, when I saw he words "Bacon, Eggs & Pie" I was sold......The fact your a Geordie was the icing on the cake. My family lived in Newcastle for many years before we returned to Ireland. 3 of my siblings were born there. My Uncle taught in school there all his adult life & my nan passed away there, she was an incredible cook! No scales, no measuring... all done by eye and feel! God bless you love!!!
My mum was a fantastic cook and a baker of many delicious cakes etc. Sadly, my children haven't been able to sample any "nanacake" as when my mum started to get onset dementia, she made a cake but missed out an essential ingredient, which rendered it inedible. My mum is now 94 and bed bound. I wish she was still able to bake as it's part of "home".
Wow, I am so glad I have found your channel, that is real cooking and eating! I've probably not had this for about 40 years. My mum used to cook it often and I have never dared to attempt it in case it wouldn't turn out well, but watching you with my mouth watering, I will be having a go soon! Thank you!
Our diets are so different these days, I don't think I have had traditional bacon and egg pie since mum died 55 years ago. This looks just like hers and she also made us jam tarts. Delicious, I wish I was there for dinner.
@@thedinnerlady9180 and I went on to watch your delicious steak pie and jam tarts ,I'm not kidding my mouth was watering, I'm making one Tommorow beautiful thankyou xx
@@gingerfreak01my mum would make the pastry scraps into cheese squares or fill, oblong s of pastry with sultanas sugar wee scrape of butter so yummy sometimes I make pastry just to make a few cheese and a few sweet turnovers !
Wow, the first ever chef, cook, youtuber I have ever seen who makes pastry correctly. Are you watching Jamie Oliver, Gordon Ramsay, etc, ? This is the way to make pastry.
I've never seen this channel before and I'm sitting here with my mouth watering, still with my coat and shoes on after work. That pie looks absolutely tremendous and I'm wishing you did mail order or lived nearer to me!
You've reminded me of the time my mother would cook the pastry, both savoury and sweet. My mum used to make jam tarts and twists for the treacle tart with the spare pastry. She used to make bacon suet puddings on alternate weeks. I haven't seen bacon that good in years, the stuff i get is always full of water.thanks for sharing
Oh, just as I remember it from my school days. Thank you for sharing. It looks lovely. Our dinner ladies at my old primary school were great cooks. This recipe was one of my favourites (cheese and onion flan, and shepherd's pie - with a lovely crispy topping - being my other main course favourites). For dessert, their Manchester tart was a delight! Compared to the meals served in many other schools, we were so lucky. Happy Days!
I remember cooking with my mum when i was a young girl and i was allowed to make jam tarts with the left over pastry. We would make apple pies, rhubarb pies etc sometimes a savoury mince pie for dinner. I've never made or had an egg and bacon pie. Thank you for a good home cooking video.
Whan i worked as a school dinner lady, forty five years ago, we made what we called "COWBOY PIE" it had corned beef and baked beans in it, simple ingredients and lovely pastry just like this one. It was delicious and i still make it, give it a try. Loved this recipe too. 🤗👍
I haven’t had cowboy pie in years. My nan used to make it with bully beef and baked beans my uncles friends brought in from the American airforce commissary. It was delish.
When I saw this it brought back memories of my mum’s bacon & egg pie, sadly she is no longer with us and I’ve tried to make her pie without success. This was brilliant and I will definitely be giving this a go. Thanks for recipe.
Absolutely loved this, loved the way she talked about her nana, made me quite emotional for the old days, when my mum would cook like that. Will be watching again.
This took me back sixty odd years. Between mum, gran and various assorted aunties every day was a possible baking day. That and the fact Uncle Jack ran the village bakery meant there was always something to enjoy on the walk home from school. Egg and bacon pie was always a regular.
I’m French Canadian and my mom used to take all the off cuts from the pastry, roll it out and top with brown sugar, cinnamon, dollops of butter and lots of raisins. Roll it up and bake until golden. When cooled, slice up and enjoy. It’s called pêtes de soeurs aka nun’s farts.
Just discovered this channel. In New Zealand we love a B n E pie and yours looks absolutely amazing. Made me hungry just watching this. Noticed the tv in background too, gotta love league lol 👍 Looking forward to trying some recipes❤
I think all kids should be taught cookery in schools it should be compulsory now as some mothers don’t know how to cook so their children don’t neither .I am 58 and taught my son and now my grandkids ..too many kids and families live off takeaways but thinks that’s a combo of their every where and sometimes it’s just as cheap to grab one ,I tend to have one a couple of times a month .My sister in law is 62 and doesn’t know how to make a cake when the kids were little she bought a packet mix or ready made cake for birthdays
@@allycat5004I totally agree. My mum is 65, and she made sure that we kids could cook. She cooks everything from scratch, and she still works full-time. People these days couldn't survive if they had to fend for themselves. Luckily, my mum stopped working 12 hour shifts last year, but when she was, she'd put everything in the slow cooker. I'm 30 years old, and I'm so shocked when I realise that people my own age can't even make gravy without gravy granules, and they have no idea how to make pastry from scratch. I make roast dinners every Sunday, homemade Yorkshire puddings, gravy from the juices, and nothing bought through convenience. My local butcher and family is like our extended family, same with the bakery. If we went to a supermarket, things would get said. They've known my family for generations, they have known each other's families for generations.
Aww blimey. That bought back some lovely memories. Thank You❤ My next-sister-up always talks about "Mum's Pie she made on Monday". Truth was, it was generally a fridge clear-out pie, cos absolutely nothing got wasted in the 40s-60s when you had 7 mouths to feed! Our mum would knock up some pastry and line a couple of big old enamel plates with it. Then she'd make like a quiche filling: whisked eggs & milk, grated cheese, bacon, ALWAYS fried onions (😋). Then sliced tomatoes on the top. Most times it had a pastry lid. If she was short of pastry, she'd put a lattice on top. We have so many fond memories of our home-cooked, childhood dinners (mine from the early 60s). We were never hungry, always had a massive plate of grub (admittedly it was made up that big mainly with a mass of spuds and a ton of veg: we all love veg as a result). Mums back then hadyto be getinventivee, eeking out small amounts of meat to go around. Not cos it was rationed: we were a big working class family so money was tight. (We called it) Shepherd's Pie was cooked in a massive roasting tray. Braising Steak that melted in the mouth with 'Beef Tea' gravy....Tom Kerridge probably charges a fortune for that these days!! Safe to say l loved Home Economics at school in the early 70s. Ive always cooked from scratch, remembering what l was taught then and what my Mum taught me - except the over-boiled Brussels Sprouts (that l adore btw)!! ❤

At schools in Australia, parents order morning recess and lunches on-line the day before. Commercial kitchens then prepare and deliver the food.
It looks delicious mind. Will probably try a smaller version for 2 people.
