4 types of people i hate on the road
    1. People who turn suddenly without even using turn signals(especially auto drivers)
    2. People who dont even look both ways before entering a road(especially elders and women and the blame in case of accidents will go on others, especially if they have an expensive car/fast bike)
    3. People who cross the road in slow motion as if the road is their father's property
    4. People who dont switch to low beam on traffic. Whenever i see such idiots, i instantly switch to high beam and make sure he/she is irritated by me as well.

Yeah, high beam from wrong side too: imagine the confidence!
Adding two more: driving in center lane at 30kmph and no response to horn or anything and these will be the first to overtake and cross your path after signal, forcing you to brake: sometimes may end up being hit from behind. Very annoying.😬

That's why I always hate aux lamps. Most of the people install them without bothering about in what inclination they are being installed and that's why most of the aux lamps blind the oncoming trafic.
It can be preventing by installing them as lower on your motorcycle as possible and taking care of the inclination.

  • @iceman-1987

People, like moths, tend to go towards the light. I mostly ride in the city and Kolkata is a well enough lit city, so I almost always use the low beam. But if I go on the highway at night, then I use the high beam and dim it whenever I see any vehicle. But, many people don't know how to dim a high beam and constantly dazzle everyone. The truckers are the best drivers, at least at night time. If they are coming up in front of me on a narrow road and I can't see due to their lights, I just press the pass button twice and they dim their lights until I pass. I just wish everyone knew the basics of light signals, using the pass light is not always asking them to get out of the way.
It's always nice to have you educate us on these simple things @Shumi, thank you.

Emphasis on the word Shumi used.. "Etiquette".
That's what's missing these days. People just forget that they have switched on high beams. I have seen people running high beams inside the city AND in broad daylight.. 90% of the time I walk past a parked bike/scooter, the high beam switch is on there.. we need to make people understand and get rid of the "baki jae bhar me.. mujhe pura rasta achhe se dikhna chahiye" attitude. Let's not even start with retro fitted LEDs on older vehicles. Their low beams feel like high beams!!
I'm sorry it's more of a rant than a comment... It's just that nobody speaks about this very etiquette and common sense that people lack so much today. Thanks for bringing this up!
We need more people like Varun on the roads!!

Interesting he says we don't use high beams enough. In Kerala, everyone just drives with high beams on and like 2/10 people even bother to switch to low beam. I even started to wonder if I was doing the right thing switching to low beam for incoming traffic at this point. Asking my friends, they all say that they began dimming for everyone but after seeing how nobody on the other side does the same, why should they.
One thing I say to everyone who gives me that answer is that it's called courtesy and it's how you teach other people to do the same. Showing ego on the road changes nothing.

I think there is a new problem. New BS6 bikes have their headlamp on low beam always on, I think people are unaware of this and still follow the practice of switching on their headlamps at night but they are actually turning on the high beam instead. People must be properly briefed before taking delivery of such vehicles.

I have one suggestion about this topic.
If we are heading to a corner, use high beam to give your presence on the road for the oncoming traffics.
On corners, Low beam lights have shorter light area; thus you have to respond even faster if the oncoming traffics are taking the corner through our side. But if we are using high beam; it's cover long distance thus it's shows our road presence also we got enough time to respond even the oncoming traffic is on wrong side too

The problem with many vehicles today is the AHO- Always Headlight On. It is absolutely unncecessary in Indian circumstances. It eliminates the off switch for headlight which makes the riders unaware of the light coming from their vehicle as they don't have to bother about turning it on at dusk. They'll put on high beam night and day. Dawn and dusk hours get extremely unpleasant and inconvenient due to this as our eyes are only adjusting to the changes in ambient light.
Why is government implementing AHO instead of DRL is the important question. Even if AHO is discontinued there will still be several vehicles on our road which have AHO.

Its more of a detturant than using. People don't understand the standards of signaling when to lower their beams either.

I see most of 2 wheeler riders using constantly high beam dazzling the vehicle coming from opposite side. They don't care literally in the streets I seriously don't think there is much of a need to use high beams .

    Thank you 😀

High beams are very essential to see stationary vehicles parked illegally beside the road especially the trucks. With low beams the reflector of the trucks doesn't lighten up.

Use low beam while someone is in front ! & Switch back to highbeam again, as simple as this
    But in India
1, Poopal use high beam constant
2, people use low beam always & bang due to low visibility
    .
Keeping a balance is the key !!

Wonderful @Shumi, using high beam etiquette you've mentioned has tremendous help in curvy hilly roads. Can you also simplify driving etiquettes in wet/foggy/rainy season especially in the areas receiving really heavy like Sohra (Meghalaya). Thanks PD.

Problem with this in India is, we are not big on etiquette or following rules. And I have literally never seen anyone who isn't using high beam. May be its just a cultural differences kind of thing. But my respect towards Varun just increased a lot..

We need a video titled "why not to use high bean all the freaking time"! 😂 It feels like I am the only who follows beam etiquette in my area at least.

Can we please get a video with the information on types of brake pads? I've been thinking of changing my stock setup to sintered ones but don't know how that will affect my rotors.

Bro. Sintered brakes are noisy and would work only after warm up. Go for organic or semi metallic
