I went to theatre camp with Neil Patrick Harris! I was _there_ when NPH was discovered! Mark Medoff, author of Clara's Heart, Neil's first movie, was the main benefactor of theatre camp. It's still one of my greatest experiences, EVER.
@@MsMojo I know, right! I'm so lucky! It was back in 1988. He was about 14, but he looked like he was only around 11, at the time. It was a week long camp hosted by NMSU and, as far as I understood, the late Mark Medoff was the main reason theatre camp even existed. At the beginning of the week, we were all paired up with somebody and tasked with writing and performing a skit at the end of the week. He was partnered with a girl and they wrote and performed a romantic piece. To this day, I can only remember his part, I don't even remember who she was or what she looked like. There was a dramatic part where he was on one knee, holding her hand, looking up into her face, and crying. I looked to my right, then to my left,... EVERYONE'S jaw was _on the floor_ from amazement! He was SOFA KING GOOD! Even better than the instructors! Shortly after that, Clara's Heart came out, and you all know the rest! My only interaction with Mr. Medoff was when I told him his Porsche was cool and he replied, "It's pronounced PORSH-AH! LEARN HOW TO SAY IT CORRECTLY!" I'm so proud of Drew for turning her life around after her traumatic childhood. She's arguably even more famous and well known as an adult actor than as a child star. 🌟😍💗
One recent example: Ke Huy Quan, who was known as both Short Round in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and Data in The Goonies for the longest time (while he was a kid actor). And then just this year, he made a MAJOR career comeback as an adult in Everything Everywhere All At Once. And he was said by many to be one of the standouts in that movie.
I remember being a kid, watching “My Girl”, and thinking Anna Chlumsky was SO beautiful!! She’s a few years older than me so I kind of idolized her in a way. When I was around 8 or 9, I used to buy BB and BOP magazines and they’d have addresses in them where you could write to your favorite movie stars. I wrote to and received responses from Christina Ricci, Tiffani Amber Thiessen, Larisa Oleynik… but my favorite was from Anna Chlumsky. The others were so clearly just sent from a rep or a secretary or something, as they were just autographed photos of the girls. But Anna’s response was a full sized glossy image where she’d actually written a message TO ME, with my name and EVERYTHING on it, and signed her name. I was legitimately GOBSMACKED! So I will FOREVER love her. And no I don’t still have the autographed pictures. Apparently when you’re 9 years old you don’t think much about how much you’d value certain things in your adulthood and you fail to take proper care of such things. I honestly have no idea what happened to them 😔
I think Sean Astin's best work after Goonies before Lord of the Rings is "Rudy". Besides doing on screen work he is also voice Acting. Anybody watch the 2012 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series. He voiced Raphael. Or have any of your kids watched "Agent Oso"? He voiced Oso.
Hayley Mills was a great child and teen actress who later gave us joy as an adult. Pollyanna, The Parent Trap, The Moon Spinners, The Chalk Garden, The Trouble With Angels and many others. Many baby boomers have terrific memories of her performances. Her father, Sir John Mills, was a fine actor who worked with her in movies sometimes. Juliet Mills, her sister, was a toddler and child actress, in movies including The Rare Breed starring James Stewart and Maureen O'Hara, and played a marvelous witch in the quirky soap opera Passions as an adult. They would make a fine pair to feature along with their father.
Mayim gives off noticible main hero vibes - she simultaneously is a tv-star, a PHD, and a mom. That's all 3 main arches. Also she speaks several languages and survived a huge car crash. (Oh yeah, plus her name is unic and has it's own back story). Edit: Thank you, ms Mojo)
In my opinion Sean Astin is one of the most iconic actors because of the amount of iconic roles he has (ex: Mikey in Goonies, Samwise in LOTR and Rudy in Rudy)
I actually remember Jason Bateman when he started acting on Little House on the Prairie! He was a cute kid who sure turned into a terrific actor! If you’ve never seen it before watch him in The Gift with Joel Edgerton-fantastic performance!
Shocked that Ms Mojo didn't actually mention that Jodie Foster also played the teenager from the original Freaky Friday I really wish that they did. :)
They breezed passed Drew, but in her 20's she started a production company called Flower films. It's best movie in my opinion, is Donnie Darko that has a young Jake Gillenhal, Seth Rogan and Ryan Reynolds. BEST SOUNDTRACK EVERR
Out of all of them I am happy that Drew Barrymore made it. She hit it so big at such a young age but had such a messed up home life she was fortunate to have made it through and land back on her feet💜💜💜
That was a clever clip for Drew Barrymore. This promo for "The Drew Barrymore Show" used the clip from when Drew appeared on "Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson" as a kid, while making it look like adult Drew was sitting behind Johnny's desk. That's an interesting way to build interest for a daytime talk show.
That's what I was thinking. I was like,"Is Adult Drew Barrymore talking to child Drew Barrymore?" 😏☺️😀 And your post confirms my thoughts were right. 😀☺️😏
You left off one well known child actor who started off in Disney movies/shows and then transitioned to movies as an adult. His filmography (as a lead in most of these): Silkwood, Big Trouble in Little China, Overboard, Swing Shift, The Thing, Escape from New York, Stargate, & Tombstone. And in the most recent decade: he has shown up in several mega franchises: Fast & Furious & the MCU. Yes -- one of my favorite actors...Kurt Russell.
Sean Austin only did bit parts between the Goonies and LOTR? The dude was literally the title character in Rudy. He's one of the main characters in Encino Man. He's in a bunch of things between those two movies.
He even appeared as the title character in the 1995 TV movie "Harrison Bergeron", loosely adapted from Kurt Vonnegut's 1961 dystopian short story of the same name.
An interesting pattern I ‘ve noticed here, ( maybe others did too) is that child actors who took a break or had parents who were wise enough to tone down to less mainstream roles after sudden success seem to do pretty well . This is compared to others (I won’t name anyone here ) who unfortunately ended up on drugs, criminals stuffs , having severe mental health issues etc. ..most of the time bc adults around them failed to protect them and / or were just $$ hungry .
I was glad Jason Bateman made a comeback. I've seen alot of his movies & liked them all. I remember him from "Silver Spoons". I would put Kim Fields (Tootie/Facts Of Life) on a top 20 list.
I admire the amount of risk of young Jodie Foster took in starring in one of the greatest and most controversial movie of all time. For a 12 year old, it's pretty impressive
You forgot Ron Howard, who started his career at 2 years old, went on to star in movies like The Music Man and The Courtship of Eddie's Father. He got screen credit right after Andy Griffith in The Andy Griffith Show. There was American Griffiti before Happy Days. He has 88 credits as an actor, 47 credits as a director and 147 credits as a producer. And you left him out?
Now that's just wrong....Sam wasn't Frodo's sidekick! He was his conscience, his Strength, his Soulmate!!! Yeah, I still feel it when Sam is yelling at Frodo to "REAACCHH!!!" lol
Shocked that Sean Astin's role in "Rudy" wasn't mentioned. Also, another actor who could qualify for this list, who acted alongside Drew Barrymore in E.T., was Henry Thomas, who has had a successful career as an adult actor, even if he's not as well known as those who are on the list.
The greatest of all was Natalie Wood. From "Miracle on 34th Street" to her adult career she was the paradigm that they all looked to when transitioning to adult stardom.
Drew Barrymore is also a producer! If she only produced Donnie Darko in her life and never did anything else, it would be enough. And she's also a style icon 🤩 Mayim Bialik is abs wonderful, her career path is beyond impressive, it's just that her style jumped quickly from a girl to a grandma. I suppose it's not her priority, but there's a good looking woman somewhere underneath that frumpy clothes Jason Bateman - there are those people who look better older and omg, he's a prime example
Jodie Foster was famous before Taxi Driver. I practically grew up with her in movies through the 60s. She was in Tom Sawyer and a host of other Disney shows.
He never "went away and then came back as an adult". He simply did films that weren't as high profile or big as HP. And let's be honest, most films (outside of Disney Marvel) aren't as big as HP. However there was no gap or chasm in his career where the work "dried up and the phone stopped ringing" and he never took a hiatus. No 7 year gaps where he didn't get any acting gigs. He's just less famous no than during the era of HP mania.
Jackie Coogan who played the original Uncle Festus on "The Addams Family" opposite Sean Astin's father was one of the very earliest child stars co-starring with none other than Charlie Chaplin in the silent film "The Kid".
Don't forget Kurt Russell he was a child star of the 60's in the 70's as an adult he has a successful Hollywood career and he continue to be the most busiest actors in Hollywood today plus he married Goldie Hawn in the 80's who's twice his age.
I always 💕'ed the movie 🍿 (My Girl W/ Macaulay Culkin) , Cole Sprouse/ Riverdale, Drew Barrymore w/ E.T., Fire Starter, Mary-kate and Ashley/ Full House 🏠.
Unfortunately she never kicked her dependencies on drugs and alcohol that started when she was a child star and led to her premature death from a drug overdose as an adult after being kicked off "Valley of the Dolls" which ironically was about the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse in Hollywood. Also this is basically a list of living former child stars.
Hey Mrs.Mojo! Do a list on Top 10 UNDERRATED ACTORS! Here's who should be on the list. 10: Bill Paxton. 9: Chadwick Bosmen. 8: Julianne Nicholson. 7: Elizabeth Gillies. 6: Victoria Justice. 5: Ariana Grande. 4: Elijah Wood. 3: Matt Murray. 2: Tyler Young and 1: James Paxton. I feel like these actors don't get the attention they deserve especially the first one since he's the son of famous actor Bill Paxton and you guys barely talk about both of them so do it, make this list now!
Chadwick *Boseman* (he’s the least underrated of all), Bill Paxton and Elijah Wood aren’t underrated at all - and in fact they never appeared on the underrated actors lists WatchMojo has done in the past.
@@LucienSabre OK, you've gotta a good point, but the first two I mentioned are definitely underrated actors who need to get more spotlight, screentime and fame, I mean come on even I didn't hear about these two until watching the show Eyewitness and that's criminally underrated too.
@@userLongHairedGIRL I watched Eyewitness…for three episodes before dropping it as it strongly reeked of something already seen - so I think its cancellation after one season is well and completely deserved. And it’s most definitely not underrated.
@@userLongHairedGIRL But that’s just my *personal* opinion, not fact - the series is not objectively bad…I simply didn’t like it because it reminded me of other similar shows (both european and american).
Bill Paxton RIP was born May 17, 1955 and started his career around 20 in 1975 in Crazy Mama. He had a bit part as a punk in the Terminator 1984 and roles in Weird Science 1985, Aliens 1986, Near Dark 1987. He was never a child actor.
You guys really don’t do your research. Jason Bateman started acting before his teen years - he was also Ricky Schroder’s sidekick in the 1982 sitcom Silver Spoons.
I’m wondering if Ralph Macchio would be considered as an honorable mention. He was mainly known for his Karate Kid series and then wasn’t recognized again until My Cousin Vinny and now again in Cobra Kai ( though it’s an extension of his very early role). He’s not exactly that famous but he did make somewhat of a comeback and Cobra Kai is actually doing well as a Netflix Original series.
Ok, I love Mae Whitman! She wasn’t actually in Napoleon Dynamite. But she has done tons of voice acting like she was the voice of Katara in Avatar the last air bender and has been in a few successful roles like The Duff and in the tv show Parenthood.
Great video! Can you do a video where you talk about the similarities and differences between the 1996 Matilda and the 2022 British re-make ? The re-make comes out on December 9th in the U.S., but will come out next month in the UK. I hope the U.S. will do a re-make of the 1996 Matilda film or a sequel sometime in the future.
This list seems to concentrate on stars who reached adulthood in recent times. What about Jackie Coogan (1914-1984), Loretta Young (1913-2000), Dick Van Patten (1928-2015), Dean Stockwell (1936-2021), Margaret O'Brien (b. 1937), Carol Lynley (1942-2019), Dorothy Dandridge (1922-1965), and others? And those are just actors from the U.S.
They don’t give a shit about anyone who isn’t known to them. They don’t do thorough research, and when I pointed out some Australians for an Olympics list, they didn’t respond. To them, we don’t exist.
What about Kim Fields?! She was a child actor in the 70's starring on"Baby I'm Back " and some work on" Good Times ". Those roles led to her being on" The Facts of Life ". Then, as an adult, she starred on" Living Single " and directed quite a few TV shows and even plays. She's currently working on a Netflix series called the" The Upshaws". She's amazing and inspirational!
Some Child Stars comeback in the classics: * Jackie Coogan, from Charlie Chaplin's "The Kid"as kid to the funny weird servant in "The Addams Family" 60s TV show as adult. * Dean Stockwell, from a young boy in "Anchors Aweigh" with Gene Kelly, Frank Sinatra and Kathryn Grayson to movies and TV series in which he played VILLAIN roles in most of them. * Jackie Cooper, from the son of "the Champ" 1931 as a kid to the Boss of Clark Kent "Superman" 1979 as adult.
*Sean Astin* has been acting steadily since 1985, when he was 14.🥰 He's not missed a year since then. that you glossed over his starring roll in "Encino Man" & title roll in "Rudy" is an insult.😮 Same with *Mayim Bialik.* She worked straight through, while getting her education. Most of these actors didn't have "comebacks" after a long break from acting. they just didn't get major lead parts for a while.
She was on The Partridge Family at age 10 as Danny Partridge’s love ❤️ interest. David Cassidy was teen idol at the time and his step mother Shirley Jones was in the show The Music 🎶 Man from the 1940’s. Ray Bolger, who played the Partridges Grandfather at the time, was the Scarecrow on The Wizard Of Oz. Sharen
I would probably have included Kirsten Dunst on the list. or Katie holmes that you actually showed at the end :P at the very least as honourable mentions.
Just like Ke Huy Quan last year, there are some child actors i would like to see making a comeback, with a great performance, great box office success, and maybe, winning an Oscar. Those include: -Macaulay Culkin -Haley Joel Osment -Corey Feldman -Linda Blair -Rupert Grint -Todd Bridges -Austin O'Brien (the kid from Last Action Hero) -Henry Thomas -Lindsay Lohan -Miranda Cosgrove -Trevor Morgan -Robert J. Steinmiller Jr. (the kid from Bingo) -Christina Ricci -Gaby Hoffman (Kevin Costner's daughter in Field of Dreams) -Hilary Duff -Anna Chlumsky -Thora Birch -Emma Watson -Raquel Castro -Jaleel White -Miko Hughes -Tom Felton -Amanda Bynes -Patty McCormack -Daniel Radcliffe -Kyla Pratt -Raven Symone -Jamie Bell -Soleil Moon Frye -Melissa Gilbert -Alison Arngrim (aka Nellie Oleson from Little House on the Prairie) -Jodie Sweetin -Madeline Zima -The Sprouse twins (both on their own, of course) -Dakota Fanning (and maybe Elle, too) -Jonathan Lipnicki -Fred Savage -Noah Hathaway
I don’t understand the title of this video in relation to your picks. Especially your number 1 choice. Christian Bale never went away in the first place. He has done at least 1 film or tv show a year since his career began. Yes he was a child star. And yes he is an adult star now. But he never stopped working as an actor while he transitioned from one to the other. So how exactly does he have a “comeback” career as an adult?
Mischa Barton. Had a small part in The Sixth Sense as the little girl ghost who was poisoned by her mom and has grown up to do adult parts. Chistina ricci. Started in Mermaids. Continued as Wednesday in The Addams Family and grew to adult parts.
i'm happy for cole sprouse i didn't think he and his brother were going to walk away from their disney characters, but stepping away and playing jughead on riverdale seems like he's doing good distancing himself from that
Jodie Foster also starred in The Little Girl Down The Lane in 1976 (creepy). Also occasional parts in The Courtship of Eddies Father TV show. I don't think she should be classified as a "comeback", she was acting all along.
Lindsey Lohan should be on here. Years after overcoming all her legal trouble, she signed a movie contract with Netflix. It may not be a big comeback, but it's something.

Don't forget Kurt Russell he was a child star of the 60's in the 70's as an adult he has a successful Hollywood career and he continue to be the most busiest actors in Hollywood today plus he married Goldie Hawn in the 80's who's twice his age.
Good one. If anything Kurt is twice her age.
I stand corrected. I thought Kurt was older. Goldie is 5 years older than Kurt. I don't think they are married, but they live together.
Mayim had also been in a blockbuster movie playing the young C.C. Bloom in Beaches.
I always 💕'ed the movie 🍿 (My Girl W/ Macaulay Culkin) , Cole Sprouse/ Riverdale, Drew Barrymore w/ E.T., Fire Starter, Mary-kate and Ashley/ Full House 🏠.
Judy Garland had one of THE most stunning comebacks in history!!!!
Cole Sprouse was outstanding in Riverdale and a major player in the shows success (along with the beautiful ❤️ women on the show)
The sprouse twins are adorable as little kids.
I am glad Anna ChLumsky made a come back
Hey Mrs.Mojo!
He was never a child actor.
they are very talented, very happy that they pursue acting
Super amazing video
The biggest!
RON HOWARD. Kid in Music Man Opie, Richie, American Graffiti's Steve to Director !!!
You guys really don’t do your research. Jason Bateman started acting before his teen years - he was also Ricky Schroder’s sidekick in the 1982 sitcom Silver Spoons.
And Rick Schroeder himself was in a series NYPD Blue as an adult.
He was an adult in the karate kid
Cobra Kai started out as a series on UA-cam
Leonardo DiCaprio....
Natalie Portman....
Elijah Woods....
Scarlett Johansson....
Dakota Fanning....
&
Jurnee Smollett....
The Sprouse twins started out on Grace Under Fire
"Empire Of The Sun" is one of my favorite movies and Bale was fantastic in it, especially when you think he was only 13 when he did it.
Very very great list I like it a lot very great job mis mojo one of my absolute favorite list ever
Cody with a young Victoria Justice at 3:17. Great clip!
1:54 You’re wrong. John Astin wasn’t Sean Astin’s biological father. That was Michael Tell.
Jodi foster was also in Disney movie, the apple dumpling gang, and a variety of spots in TV shows as a child actor.
Child actress Mae Whitman costarred in Independence Day as the President's daughter and about 10 years later she costarred in Napoleon Dymamite
She’s also the voice of Tinkerbell in the Tinkerbell movies
Great suggestion!
Soooo.... Freddy Highmore? 😅
This list seems to concentrate on stars who reached adulthood in recent times. What about Jackie Coogan (1914-1984), Loretta Young (1913-2000), Dick Van Patten (1928-2015), Dean Stockwell (1936-2021), Margaret O'Brien (b. 1937), Carol Lynley (1942-2019),
Dorothy Dandridge (1922-1965), and others? And those are just actors from the U.S.
They don’t give a shit about anyone who isn’t known to them. They don’t do thorough research, and when I pointed out some Australians for an Olympics list, they didn’t respond. To them, we don’t exist.
Natalie Wood
Sean Asti played in Rudy one of the best movies made in my opinion
What about Kim Fields?! She was a child actor in the 70's starring on"Baby I'm Back " and some work on" Good Times ". Those roles led to her being on" The Facts of Life ". Then, as an adult, she starred on" Living Single " and directed quite a few TV shows and even plays. She's currently working on a Netflix series called the" The Upshaws". She's amazing and inspirational!
Some Child Stars comeback in the classics:
* Jackie Coogan, from Charlie Chaplin's "The Kid"as kid to the funny weird servant in "The Addams Family" 60s TV show as adult.
2:19 ...c'mon, Mojo. You forgot about his role in Rudy.
I'm glad that jodie foster continued acting love her in silence of the lambs
*Sean Astin* has been acting steadily since 1985, when he was 14.🥰 He's not missed a year since then. that you glossed over his starring roll in "Encino Man" & title roll in "Rudy" is an insult.😮
Same with *Mayim Bialik.* She worked straight through, while getting her education.
Most of these actors didn't have "comebacks" after a long break from acting. they just didn't get major lead parts for a while.
Sam Astin was Rudy!! Iconic
Not to be picky but it's Sean not Sam.
She was on The Partridge Family at age 10 as Danny Partridge’s love ❤️ interest.
David Cassidy was teen idol at the time and his step mother Shirley Jones was in the show
The Music 🎶 Man from the 1940’s.
Ray Bolger, who played the Partridges Grandfather at the time, was the Scarecrow on The Wizard Of Oz.
Sharen
The Music Man was 1962
I would probably have included Kirsten Dunst on the list. or Katie holmes that you actually showed at the end :P
at the very least as honourable mentions.
Daniel DiMaggio needs to make a comeback
Awesome 😎
Just like Ke Huy Quan last year, there are some child actors i would like to see making a comeback, with a great performance, great box office success, and maybe, winning an Oscar.
Those include:
-Macaulay Culkin
-Haley Joel Osment
-Corey Feldman
-Linda Blair
-Rupert Grint
-Todd Bridges
-Austin O'Brien (the kid from Last Action Hero)
-Henry Thomas
-Lindsay Lohan
-Miranda Cosgrove
-Trevor Morgan
-Robert J. Steinmiller Jr. (the kid from Bingo)
-Christina Ricci
-Gaby Hoffman (Kevin Costner's daughter in Field of Dreams)
-Hilary Duff
-Anna Chlumsky
-Thora Birch
-Emma Watson
-Raquel Castro
-Jaleel White
-Miko Hughes
-Tom Felton
-Amanda Bynes
-Patty McCormack
-Daniel Radcliffe
-Kyla Pratt
-Raven Symone
-Jamie Bell
-Soleil Moon Frye
-Melissa Gilbert
-Alison Arngrim (aka Nellie Oleson from Little House on the Prairie)
-Jodie Sweetin
-Madeline Zima
-The Sprouse twins (both on their own, of course)
-Dakota Fanning (and maybe Elle, too)
-Jonathan Lipnicki
-Fred Savage
-Noah Hathaway
what happened to Opie Taylor of Mayberry?( Ron Howard)
Candace Cameron, Melissa Joan Hart, and literally any kid from Freaks and Geeks could have been on this list.
Most of them never stopped acting. Sean Astin & Mayim Bialik, to name 2. Maybe we don't understand what a comeback is. 🤔
Drew is not on hiatus, she is acting on Netflix’s Santa Clarita Diet where she is a zombie
That was canceled a while ago, so yes she is on hiatus
Mischa Barton. Had a small part in The Sixth Sense as the little girl ghost who was poisoned by her mom and has grown up to do adult parts.
Chistina ricci. Started in Mermaids. Continued as Wednesday in The Addams Family and grew to adult parts.
I can honestly say that I can relate to all child stars since I have been a superstar from an early age of 5 years old.
McKauley Caulkin?
Wynnona Rider?
Cristina Ricci?
Mara Wilson?
Frankie Muniz?
I wish Cole and Dylan Sprouse had a debt as infants in a sitcom playing 1 character. Much like Mary Kate and Ashley as Michelle Tanner in Full house
Ricky Schroder? Silver Spoons - Lonesome Dove - NYPD Blue
ms mojo is a good channel
Dunno about you. But Newsies is actually one of my favourite films 😂
Matin Bialil is so amazing and now that I know how long she has acted,I like her even more
I know #7 for something else more than as Tommy: Roger Bowman from Disney's remake of _Angels in the Outfield_ in 1994.
i'm happy for cole sprouse i didn't think he and his brother were going to walk away from their disney characters, but stepping away and playing jughead on riverdale seems like he's doing good distancing himself from that
Darren Hayes. Asher angel. Avi angle. Richard Cullen. Daniel Jones.
Jodie Foster also starred in The Little Girl Down The Lane in 1976 (creepy). Also occasional parts in The Courtship of Eddies Father TV show. I don't think she should be classified as a "comeback", she was acting all along.
You forgot to mention Rudy for Sean Astin
How do you bring up Sean Astin's career and not talk about "Rudy?"
I vote for Winona Ryder.
very surprised not to see natasha lyonne in this list! great to see mayim though
How is it that Kurt Russet never makes these lists? He started out kicking Elvis in the shins, to Disney teen to Guardians of the Galaxy and beyond
9:43 JANITOR from SCRUBS!
good video
Lindsey Lohan should be on here. Years after overcoming all her legal trouble, she signed a movie contract with Netflix. It may not be a big comeback, but it's something.
