I just solved this problem today, in my case it was the deflection pulley below the alternator. My car has an M57TU2.
Hi Rich,
It sounds like it might possibly be a worn hydraulic belt tensioner and deflection pulley ?
Best wishes to you and your family for a healthy and prosperous new year!
Cheers
Thanks Philip, and happy new year. I will check the AC belt, tensioner and pulley next.
Hey everyone, check out this video. Very similar sound (maybe the same sound!): ua-cam.com/video/k0DDbmPvt0Q/v-deo.html
HAVE YOU FIGURED THE PROBLEM OUT???
Vanos Valvetronic and evap air purge pump
Hi bro
I would need your help please because my bmw e70 is making me oops. Please, how can I reach out to you???
hi bud my car is making the exact same noise ,no codes, removed belt noise still there i have the n55 engine so no disa valves ,did you ever get this fixed?
Hello friend, i have the same problem whit my bmw x5 2014, do you solved the noise? Thanks
Hello. Did you find it?
Have you found out what it was?
Is it bad if you don’t get this fixed soon and just leave it?
Have you found out what it was?
I would pull the AC belt and spin the tensioner , if it still does it , prob the vacuum pump, better hope its not the vacuum pump lol
Thanks brother! I cut the AC belt last night, noise is still there. Was hoping it would be the pulley. Well I guess it’s either the vacuum pump or the oil pump…. Vacuum would be better than the oil pump lol
I'm thinking it's the vacuum pump. Ever done one before?
NOTHING is wrong. That's just the way it sounds in cold & wet weather. I promise you...
Hmm I don’t know man, at the 2 minute mark it sounds pretty bad. I think it’s the AC compressor pulley.
It's happened to me twice since I bought my BMW 2 months ago and both times it was raining. It stopped and now it's not making the whining noise anymore.
I say: just replace al tensioners and belts. That's normal maintenance I think.
Thanks Mark. The belts and tensioner are in great condition.
That was a horrible sound. Hope you fix it soon
Thanks!
hi mate please tell me did d u fix it?
Have you found out what it was?
I have the exact same noise from my E70, Did you manage to get to the source of the noise ?
Have you found out what it was?
@@n52nb30 Nope, sold it as is. Good Luck !
Did you ever figure out what the sound was? I have a similar sound after replacing my power steering pump and a dynamic drive line.. still can’t nail it down!
BMW diagnosed and said it is the DISA under the intake manifold. Need to remove manifold to replace. I need to do it soon!
@@BIMMERZEITT good to know, thank you for the response man!
I also got this sound after replacing the active stabilizer and 3 hoses. not our reason?
What was it mate?
My E91 320d is doing it
Hello. Do you fixed this?
Have you found out what it was?
I have a bmw x6 e71 35i and i have the same sound!
Could it be hydraulic pump????
Which pump?
@@BIMMERZEITT power steering pump* ?
@@pianobyat7578 I took the serpentine belt off in the video… so it’s not the PS pump or Alternator.
@@BIMMERZEITT when you took off serpentine belt, is it still making the same sound? Because it can’t hear it well
Hi just i need your help…i have a problem in my x5 e53, i am not receiving anymore “check oil level” when it’s at minimum even i changed the oil sensor. Do you know what’s the real problem?
I'm not very deep into X5 but what does the active suspension have to do with the power steering?
I may have misspoke, but I'm just saying that the active steering/ adaptive drive/ active suspension steering pump and alternator are different part numbers than the e70 models without those options. Generally speaking, the alternator and pump are way more expensive for the e70 with those options. So I'm happy that the pump and alternator appear to be fine.
@@BIMMERZEITT thx
@@BIMMERZEITT because there are active stabilizers, which are hydraulic, and have one circuit with power steering
hey, we have identical E70s. I had the same issues in the past. I replaced the Disa valve (bigger one) on the right. the one that is easier to access and to replace. Check both DISA valves.
Happy New Year,
thank you, I will check them as well! happy new year!
Yes me too
@@BIMMERZEITTwhat was the issue for you
Upon inspection, my BMW dealer said it is the small disa valve under the intake. I replaced them both. I believe the noise is resolved.
hi could you tell me how to fix my x3 e83 diff has a slout play
Hey I have a question whats wrong with my bmw 2011 328i no check engine light on but turn off out of no where & needs 30-40 minutes to turn back on ?
Start by scanning it with a BMW scan tool and check all the systems for codes. They can be stored (shadow) but not throwing a light yet.
Did you ever fix the issue?
Have you found out what it was?
Have you found out what it was?
Check the pcv valve it's in the back of the engine u will have to replace the valve cover it comes in one piece
did you fixed your noise problem? i have a same problem with my car..e70 48i
actually im trying to figure out this problem but not yet. if you solved the problem or have some clue please share with me. thank you!
Not yet. Possibly the vacuum pump or worse yet, the oil pump. The oil pump noise is more common on the V8’s like yours. Look up x5 oil pump noise here on UA-cam.
Hey, uhh, any luck on the source of that noise? I'm thinking AC comp myself, but I also just got my 2006 e90/n52 serviced to clean out the oil tube bc the belt broke 🤷♂️
Thanks for the quality content!!
BMW said it’s the DISA under the intake manifold. There are 2 valves on the n52.
Any updates on what the problem was? I had a bad whine on my 11 E70 and the Power Steering pump failed. Problem is the new $1300 OEM BMW pump is defective and the whine is still there but a little less noisy lol. Glad I ordered from FCP Euro for the lifetime warranty.
How did yours fail? BMW said the noise was the small disa under intake. Today we had a catastrophic hydraulic failure. Fluid everywhere. Not sure if a line or the pump let go…
You might have problems with your I drive screen it keeps fading in and out ? Or maybe just how it appears on camera.. engine noise sounds kinda normal I had same engine in my previous car and it made similar noise.. but to be sure check that ac compressor, there is a bearing in a ac compressor pulley that can be replaced.
thanks! yeah I’m thinking it’s the AC compressor. I’ll have to check that next.
as for the nav screen, might just be the shutter speed rate on the camera vs. the screen refresh rate
Happy New Year!!!
have you had any luck?
I meant to ask you: what do you think about the diesel variant of these? Are they a good buy?
I haven’t had time yet! Could be vacuum pump or oil pump. However, I heard a 2010 328i with same engine the other day, sounded the same. I considered a 35d and 35i… 35d has very expensive and complex emissions parts that fail. 35i also has very expensive components. This is my wife’s commuter so I went with the 30i for “reliability” and lower cost of ownership.
The joys of BMW ownership... however that's any car. Have you tried using a mechanics stethoscope to probe around listening to it?
Haha totally. I actually don't even own one, maybe it's time to pick one up and add that to my tool kit.
@@BIMMERZEITT harbor fright has then cheap af but a recommendation is get them then go to a medical supply and spend the money on replacement ears pieces getting an assortment of sizes to find what fits your ears. They are soft and seal better not hurting your ears but all in maybe $15-$20 for everything. Worth it for troubleshoot. It use mine at work weekly or more. Cheap HF set with nice ear prices.
Could it be the water pump?
I don’t think so, but pump is electric on this model
@@BIMMERZEITT Yeah same as my Z4. Have you tried one of those long stethoscope rod things? Hopefully its something simple and inexpensive.
Were you ever able to find out what the issue is/was? I have the exact same issue - sound.
Have you found out what it was?
Did you fix it?
Not yet! Haven’t had the time, it’s my wife’s daily driver. Soon.
friend, check the DISA valves, okay? I have an e70 3.0si too.
your Engine is Missfiring check the Oil breather , sound like u got some tiny crack at any of Intake pipes downthere
Hey thanks for making this video. Did you ever find the troublemaker, have the same problem on my x5 f15? ☺️ BR
BMW dealer said it’s the DISA under the intake manifold. Haven’t swapped it yet!
@@BIMMERZEITT did you swapped disa? i have the same noise on my e70 nb48 2007 year
@@dimasnorth not yet, its sitting here in a box. Need to find the time before winter!
@@BIMMERZEITT did you do it? :P ...same whining noise here in Australia!
@@BIMMERZEITTdid it work ?
