If you drive a modern car with plastic headlights, you've probably polished the lenses at some point after they become hazy and yellow. UV light from the sun degrades the plastics over time and make them unsightly. Whats worse is the light output decreases which can be a safety issue too. I've tried the Meguiar's plastic polish and 3M headlight polish kits - but none are as good as this new kit from SYLVANIA. This is because all of them are missing a new UV protectant and sealant - which SYLVANIA includes in their kit. Check out the results for yourself!

Helllll yeah
love that channel. he's awesome.
Thanks for sharing this product Rich. After watching your video I ordered a kit and the results on my 2000 E46 headlight covers was astounding!
I used Meguires it's far less work and the results are outstanding it's now 2 years and my headlights look like brand new . With this coating it can create streaking Wich is really a pain in the ass after all that work.
Looks decent but I think it could use a lil more sanding work a good buff and a spray clearcoat works best
The thing about all kit brands it doesn't last long
Hey man. How about that update on how its holding up. Been 3 months. Nice video btw!
Holding up great, no peeling or wear. I wipe each lens with ceramic spray (Griot's) after a wash. I suspect it might take a year or two or three to eventually yellow or degrade.
Thanks for Sharing............They did not look that bad from the start. They look great. I am hesitant to wet sand.
I have been using Maguiar's Ultimate Compound and/or Klasse All-in-One Polish (German Wax - Red Bottle) to remove the hazing......then seal with Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Liquid Wax. 2008 E91 my son is driving looks great......Lasts 3-6 months.
I have used 3M with good results. Now that I see this coating, I will use that as a final step. Thank you for making this video, otherwise I would not know about this product.
The 3M product is good, but I think all kits are missing the UV coating as the final step. Sylvania finally got it right! Now, let's see how long the coating lasts!
@@BIMMERZEITTI have used the spray coating made by Meguiers for headlights. Many years have gone by with no deterioration.
Direct sunlight is crazy bro
If that surface coating is melting plastic(or UV haze) then how bad is it if it gets on paint?
this will not last. the only thing that works is uv clear coat paint
Very nice. I'll have to try that on one of my other Bimmers so I can compare the results as I just did the same on my 200k+ mile E61 using the Meguiar's 2 step kit with the clear coat spray. Isn't it amazing how even extremely damaged headlights can turn out? Always surprising when that last "magic" step gets applied. Thanks again.
Hello friend
I bought a new air sensor and after connecting it, the car became shaking, and while pressing the accelerator pedal, there is no torque in the car, after that, the car stopped working, my friend, does the new sensor need programming??
Hello friend
What is the reason for the lack of engine oil with no smoke from Shakman but I smell
Looking good baby!!
There he is! 🥰
Works but doesn't last long.
How long did yours last? This X5 is now sold, so I can't track long term results.
Im guessing 6 months. Im just going to replace the whole asseembly.
It works!
I completely do a different process but good job
What products do you use?
does putting more uv coating make a difference? i noticed it`s the step that really makes the headlight shines, can you do a 2nd coating?
I had no reason to try adding a second coat once the first dried. If you try it let us know the results!
I watched a different video on headlight restoration that said you should NEVER put 2 (or more) coats of Clearcoat on a newly restored headlight. The more coats you have, the less light will shine through. It's simple physics. He used multiple panes of glass piled on top of each other to illustrate how the best clarity was seen through a single pane. Each additional layer made it fuzzier and fuzzier to look through. One thick coat is all you should need for the best results on a headlight.
I did my 2000 Mustang by wet sanding and used some sprat can clear i had sitting around and got these same results. They looked good as this BMW but not new.
Sold the car a few months later so i dont know how it looks now (bout 3yrs later.
Since u mention a possible second coat i have an idea to do it the same way on my E39, 528i bmw, but to let the clear fully cure, then wet sand it again and re clear it (like a show car paint job. Think ill try it out. No worries if it fails (which i doubt) because i was going to update the headlights anyway, from '97 to '00-03
Good concise video. Will the UV protectant and sealant affect painted bumper if not masked off? I just now clicked your amazon link to buy the kit, BTW. Tnx
Thanks! Appreciate the affiliate link click too! I actually smudged a little extra UV coat onto the very edge of the fender and it came off without a problem. It might not be a bad idea to put a fresh layer of tape around the light before applying the coating. Good idea!
@@BIMMERZEITTThanks. Yeah, it makes sense though that if you apply it sparingly (like you did), removing from paint shouldn't be a big deal. My kit will be here in about a week, so I'm fairly confident after watching your video that I'll have good results (2012 RAV4, about 95,000 miles).
Sylvania's own instructional video also says to remove the tape before applying the sealant.
Thanks for adding that detail!@@phorest
How is it holding up 2 months later ? That looks amazing
Good timing of this video. About to purchase the 3M kit. More info on the e70!
It's a 2010 X5 30i M-sport with adaptive drive!
I did not know they made a MSport for 3.0? Maybe 3.5? Interesting - anyways how is it holding up? @@BIMMERZEITT
@@Enthusiast_Plus Yes, it is a relatively rare car. I've seen a handful of others for sale over the years. The M-sport package includes the wider painted wheel arches, staggered style 223 wheels, m steering wheel, sport seats, black headliner, m specific roof rails, m front and rear bumpers. My car is also carbon schwarz metallic which can only be ordered on M models. Yes, engine is a 3.0 liter N52! Its holding up well, only issue so far was that I had to rebuild the adaptive drive tandem pump.
@@BIMMERZEITT Was it Canadian spec? Also, I just did this on my ZHP - the headlights are curing as I type. Hoping for similar results! I will say the coating at the end still makes mine it look foggy but I hope with curing that will go away.
So my results weren’t as good. Probably user error as I think I used too much clear at the end. Ended up having to redo the entire process but I used the 3M ultimate kit. I think you had a video on this as well. Much better results and looks night and day better.
The final result looks great but the true test is how long it'll last.
Yes for sure. I'll post an update over time, hope it lasts.
@@BIMMERZEITT I used the Sylvania kit on my 2004 X3 in 2020, and it's just now starting to look a little cloudy again. Amazing product.
Why not take headlight out of car?.
You could I guess, but that is a much bigger job. I believe the wheels and fender liners have to be removed first.
U SILLY JACK A S S !!! WHYTF WOULD U MAKE MORE WORK FOR YOURSELF ???
@@BIMMERZEITT that's correct. It is a huge job.
It looks good, but not perfect. However, I am not sure how much DIY products can replace a detailer shop or a new headlight cover.
The kit is like $20. It doesn’t have to be perfect. What would a shop charge? OEM lights for most car mfg aren’t cheap.
Why would you even mention this? You know how much a new headlight cover cost versus a DIY $20 kit I mean come on now
