I throw a reeeeeeeally beat up star tee bird and its incredible. It goes super straight, but still has a reliable (but less dramatic) left finish. Great for flex shots too!
When the final mold is shaped, and the disc ends up disappointing in terms of distance for it's speed category, they can always down the speed number by 1 and up the glide number by 1, placing it in a lower speed/distance category and making it look better. The Athena is actually an 8 4 0 2. In fact, some reviewers noted how the Athena seems to just hit a wall and suddenly fade (hence the lower glide number that it's deserving of). As for the 8, well, that's just correct nomenclature for an 18mm rim (1.8cm). With the Teebird, on the other hand, they don't need to massage the numbers to make it look better - it actually is, a 7 5 0 2, but gets distance comparable to the 8speed ones.
I would throw an Athena just to see how it compares to the glow AB stamp Teebird 3. It would have to do everything the Teebird 3 does but better and I don’t think it will. I will get a production run when they come out.
@@sono3003 I throw an Explorer in that slot instead, but my friend who’s close to 1000 rated loves that specific Teebird3. I’m definitely not 1000 rated (813) but maybe I’ll get one to try out 😂
I found the Evader early in 2022. I had never felt comfortable with a 7 speed before, and now I bag two. I feel like the Athena is more of an answer to the Evader or the Teebird3, than the Teebird.
I'm a Teebird guy I get mine 330-350 range. My buddy who is on team discraft underground team let me try the Athena, and I got the same flight and distance. But here's the problem, I can go get a teebird anywhere for $15. Good luck trying to find an Athena.
everyone's scared to be on vid haha :) I love these types of videos because they get a much more varied and realistic expectation of what a disc will fly like!
I throw a vulture in the t-bird/Athena slot. It’s a faster disc that flies like an 8-9 speed and I love it. . I gave the Athena a run but it was pretty beefy and had very little glide. Sounds like everyone is having difference experiences with this disc.
I wonder how many people were pretending they didn't know which was which because the way they tool the names on the inside of the rim would make it obvious.
I loved my Instinct when I first got it but the NEO plastic breaks in faster than a premium plastic should and now it’s to flippy. Went back to my gold ole Teebirds.
Been throwing these 2 and the eagle for 5 rounds or so(RHBH) and i like the feel of the athena. Better release for me. I find discraft for better prices also so easier to replace.
I agree. As a RHBH dominant player the Raptors never vibed with me. The Vulture for that slot perfectly. I got an Athena and my experience was the same. Felt more like a beefy Raptor so I sold it after 20 throws. Disappointed.
Doth Savek made a video describing the effects of rim curve on the stability of the disc. As soon as Tim said the Teebird was more concave, I was certain it would be more stable. Love to see a comparison where they are both have the same rim curve as Innova's runs are so wildly varied
All the discs in Paul's line are high quality and beautiful, but it's very difficult to find one that's under 172-grams, so I will never ever buy or use one of them.
I find it hard to believe that using gyro discs would drastically increase scores for pros. There is a level of comfort using the same discs for months breaking it in and knowing exactly how they fly. MVP takes longer than others to break in, and most pros have no familiarity with MVP molds so it would take a long time to get comfortable with the new discs. Also MVP plastic feels like my rubber toy chest growing up
@@discgolf2479 if you give a formula 1 driver a jetta, he can still drive and will get comfortable with it. The jetta will never perform like a well tuned Ferrari. Mvp/axiom discs are Ferraris.
at 5:20 you try to copy paul mcbeths form by doing a walk up forhand roller wind up and then launch a sidearm. Paul only did that because of avery jenkins who has a trash sidearm to begin with. Imagine not being 1000 rated and doing a forehand roller run up for your forhand shots LMAO. Hailey king used to do this until we all told her wtf you doing and now shes very good

Loved this, you asked folks to randomly feel it out and then got them to throw it was great!!!
Shoutout to the OG 400 F2...the real winner of this video

AB glow teebird 3 are just so perfect. It would take a lot to replace that and I don't even think esp plastic compares in comfort for me

Loving the vids guys.
Love the video. Athena is hands down so much better for me. My son likes his TeeBirds, but only because I wont let him throw my Athena. :).
That second to last guy had a great forehand!

What course is this ? Unger?
I liked the flight of the Athena better, but I also prefer less stable discs as well.

I throw echo star teebirds, it's like throwing on a rope. Hard to break that bias.
The Evader is the right answer 👏👏👏
Star Teebird - $16. ESP Athena - $25 and out of stock everywhere. Which makes more sense given the similar flights and hand feels?
Insert Pam from The Office "They're the same picture" meme here.
I wonder how many people were pretending they didn't know which was which because the way they tool the names on the inside of the rim would make it obvious.
Exactly. Anybody that’s thrown Discraft should be able to identify one due to the raised letters.
I would love to see the Athena compared to the Lat 64 Glory
The Explorer is the Lat 64 Teebird clone. The Glory is def. more stable.
Reid’s ability to forehand 7 speeds is really impressive to me. I can’t for the life of me figure out how to do that
Votum > Athena > Teebird
I really do not like the Teebird, but I love my Neo Instinct though. Kind of flippy flight. Maybe more comparable to the Athena?
We loveeee the instinct!

@@hiddenleaf414 I keep two in the bag. One kind of flippy neo and one more overstable forge.
But I see what you mean though.
I threw the Athena but it didn't edge out my neo instinct. My son def like the Athena more tho.

As a heads up the Athena seems to have reliability issues in production. My buddy's is a beefcake, basically a mini-Raptor...

Mine feels and flys just like my eagle. Way more overstable then my teebirds.
He throws his forehand like paul mcbeth
How quick will you lose that Athena? That's the worst color haha
Instead of saying "you dont wanna be in a video do ya". You should ask if they wouldn't mind doing a review for your youtube channel

Sure, I'll tell you how they feel and throw, if you send them to me!
XD.
Just kidding, great vid.
Why are you making videos of inferior discs. If you're not throwing gyro discs, you fell into marketing hype.
^^Tell that to all but one major tournament winner in history...
