Disney's New Live Action Pinocchio Is Terrible - Review

- Опубліковано 9 вер 2022
- Pinocchio is the latest of Disney's live-action remakes. Following films such as The Lion King, Aladdin, The Jungle Book, and more; Pinocchio continues to prove that remaking these classic films is causing them nothing but harm. But why is this? Why does Pinocchio (2022) fail? Find out in my in-depth review!
Pinocchio is a 2022 American musical fantasy comedy film directed by Robert Zemeckis from a screenplay by Zemeckis and Chris Weitz. The film, produced by Walt Disney Pictures, is a live-action remake of Walt Disney's 1940 animated film of the same name, which is itself based on the 1883 Italian book The Adventures of Pinocchio, by Carlo Collodi. The film stars Tom Hanks, Cynthia Erivo, and Luke Evans with Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Keegan-Michael Key in voice roles.

I just want Disney to start doing original stuff again. Encanto is the only movie from them (not including Pixar) within the past many years that hasn't been either a remake or a sequel to an existing franchise. They don't put legitimate effort into their movies and just go Quantity over Quality. Not to mention completely unnecessary elements incorporated that have no impact on the story whatsoever
Most of DIsney's classic movies were based on prexisting books, but yeah.
Raya and the Last Dragon was great too. I agree with you, Disney needs to stop with these live-action remakes unless there's a new aspect from the same story.
You'll maybe like their upcoming movie Wish! You should check it out
@@Magitek1112 Back in the days, Hollywood studios had the balls of making movies that are based on something, but something unknown that deserves a mainstream chance, now, every derivative movie needs to be based on something already successful.
There was Raya and the Last Dragon but it kept getting dunked on for having a shit message and not being a good representation of SEA culture despite how much they hyped up Raya as a SEA Princess.
This really was one of the movies ever. The part where pinocchio said "it's pinocchin' time" and proceeded to pinocch all over everyone had me crying tears of pure joy. The characters, voice acting, and animation were all very, very. Overall this is why shrek is one of the movies ever made.
but how does this affect lebron’s legacy?
this indeed is a certified hood classic

Huh?
@@chuckoneill2023 I think he's got a brain aneurysm
It wasn't terrible. but the "chris pine" joke made me cringe. and the fact that they changed the ending in like such a half ass way was upsetting. " you don't need to be a real boy, you're perfect the way you are" and Gepetto almost dying was lame . I mean that's closer to the original story in the book I think? In the book they end up somewhere with gepetto injured, and Pinocchio works hard on a farm to make money until Gepetto gets better. versus the animated one where Pinocchio straight up died. the self sacrifice is what lets him become a real boy in both instances. this movie takes that all away and tells the audience " be a decent person, and that's all you need to be. you don't actually need to change or do anything. " which is, eh? kinda boring.
Modern script writers have a real problem with symbols and themes. They tend to interpret everything literally. Obviously Pinocchio transforming into a real boy only after doing the right thing and saving his father is teaching "you will only be really human when you develop your consciousness and do the most righteous thing in a situation; until that you are just...well...A PUPPET, literally manipulatable by others". This is evidently the whole point of the story.
Modern writers take the original story, read it literally and transform it in a "prejudice" issue (like the school scene) and create an innexisting problem with the original ending. After all, if it is a "prejudice story" you can't tell the prejudice victim to change into someone who won't suffer prejudice. That is the reason they chickened out of the real ending and went with "eh, who knows if he changed in a real boy? lol"
@@SKyrim190 Yeah and that's such a ridiculous take, to equate "talking wooden puppet" with, idk, black? Middle eastern? Gay? Even if I took the original message to be about prejudice, he becomes human in the end when he wasn't before. Because humans have intrinsic value, regardless of other factors, I don't understand why modern screenwriters have a problem with that message. Other than just, many people have a problem these days of being told they need to change IN ANY WAY.
If I remember correctly they're also making a live action lilo and stitch movie. Imagine how creepy that could look.
The fact that they need to make a CGI stitch alone makes scares me
if this is true wow they've already reached to 2000s movies now
@@pradeepdungdung4379 Watch them make live action remakes of Pixar movies. Mark my words.
WHAT.
God please noooooooooo
I don't think I will go watch any of the new live action Disney remakes that are coming out, they just loose all the charm from the original movies. They are pointless, and I wasting my time on an inferior product feels pretty pointless too.
I am just terrified to what they're gonna do to the Little Mermaid, and Hercules, those were some of my favorite Disney Renaissance movies.
It's just sad to see these inferior versions of classic movies be what the new generations will come to know.
I think the jungle book remake was very decent in my opinion I think that was the only one other remix that's better than the original mainly because of the ending of the original was horrible. I think a new generation of cash may enjoy the remakes more than the adults because they didn't grow up with the originals
Pinocchio was such a goody two shoes in this movie and for what? The whole point of Jiminy is to symbolize that Pinocchio doesn't have an internal conscience, compelling him to make bad decisions and not give his situations much thought. If he's not a little shit that has a lesson to learn and already has a sense of morality, he's just Pinocchio the human trafficking victim who's always smiling.
The Light year movie had the same problem
6:22 It's not necessarily all people being bigoted all-rights, or the character appearance being insignificant, but it's the unneccary change that makes the fairy literally polar opposite in the two most dominant appearance features: Hair -> gone, White -> Black, and chances are this unnecessary change on such a fundamentally important character, is Disney doing the same shit that dozens of other companies are doing: Diversity Inclusion and Virtue Signalling regardless of the source material.
Sure, there could be more pure-hearted and well-meant reasons, but there's so many cases of virtue signalling and greed that even people like myself who consider the possabilities, can't help but be jaded and doubtful. Companies like Blizzard and their blatant lies about Diablo Immortal's predatory gambling system, just further raises suspicion of ulterior motives.
I agree. Like, if the company wants to show support of diversity, just make one whole movie about them, like enchanto once, the whole Columbia loving it.
I second this, and this is also furthered by people pointing out how creatively bankrupt Disney is nowadays. People don't have a problem with Diversity as long as it makes sense in context and/or is an original interesting idea, so when something like Encanto comes out, it's praised and deservedly so, but when you cast a black actor as a well-established white character (and looks nothing like the source material) for no other reason other than checking a diversity box, People can tell.
tbh i hate the blue fairy, not cuz of the actor or skin color or gender, but number one. They done her so dirty by making her wear a Halloween costume, full fake wings and all, with a blue glittery dress with nothing special going on it besides CGI special effect (essentially sparkles). to cover up the poor choice in clothing, which makes her look like she's cosplaying as a fairy rather than a mystical being. two she legit doesn't show up again besides this one scene, where in the original she was sort of like Pinocchio's guardian, came to his aid and teaches him other lessons. She was one of the main characters and unforgettable in her role due to the plot relevance she had. Now she appears once and fuckin vanishes, having practically no plot relevance besides telling Pinocchio how he should become a real boy
They also went really, really out of their way to make many things, from Pinocchio to the fish, a 1 to 1 with the animation, so it really stands out.
Eh, I'm fine with the race swap of the blue fairy(not so much Ariel). She was never an iconic character imo, even in the original she had only a handful of scenes, She looks... odd, though, in this version, and I don't like that.
What annoys me more is they cut out her other scenes. Her role was as a mother-type figure to Pinnochio - why take that out? If the point was to give him more of a friend relationship with that puppet girl, ok, fine, but make her role have a POINT to it. Like, that she's the one who gets him out of the cage and she's the one he lies to, as in the original movie.
Or just, not make the movie at all.
Here’s the thing with the Blue Fairy. People weren’t mad because she’s black. But the remake went to great lengths to make sure Pinocchio looked like the cartoon version. Jiminey looks like the cartoon version (mostly). Geppetto looks like the cartoon version. Then the fairy does a fucking 180 for…reasons? It was a stupid choice if the intention was to keep the looks similar to the cartoon.
This. Wouldn't surprise me if they made snow white black someday.
@@knellycornnan5132 The new one is Latina, but close enough
@@yunamchill9169 At this point I am surprised they did not make pinnocchio and geppedo black.
Correction: Robert Zemeckis didn't direct Reel Steel. Shawn Levy, the guy who did Free Guy and the Night at the Museum movies, directed it. However Zemeckis' production company, Imagemovers, helped produce it, so that might be why you mistook it as one of his features.
The BEST Live Action Remake was The Jungle Book it was so good and I Stand by that the rest are totally Mediocre...
Agreed. It was the best of the worst at the very least.
How does 2022 CGI Pinocchio look worse than 2002 Kingdom Hearts Pinocchio?
You're right!
I have a theory, I think that Disney needs to curn out these remakes so they preserve their version of Pinocchio, Cinderella, so on, by proving they are still using them for big budget movies just so they don't eventually fall into fair use
It makes sense and is what I've been thinking for a while. Disney lobbied in 1998 to keep mickey mouse out of the public domain. As you said, more than likely to use these new films as proof they need to extend the copyright laws even further.
This makes so much sense
Nope, because that's not how copyright works, if you make a movie, then you make a sequel years later, and then the first movie falls into the public domain, the sequel is not a renewal for anything, it just means everyone can use the first movie for their own use but can't use nothing from the sequel until more years pass.
Mickey is joining the public domain in 2024, but only the first black and white version will be free to use, making more Mickey cartoons doesn't renew anything, it just means the new cartoons are still owned by Disney, while others can use everything from the old ones.
@@silverdamascus2023 Disney’s Version of Pinocchio is trademarked. But a few parts of the first Disney Pinocchio movie’s own screenplay, themselves written by Erdman Penner and Ted Sears, are on the process of becoming both free to use and public domain in 2027 and 2029, not just for Australia, but also for much of the world, except for the USA.
I remember a live action remake starring Johnathan Taylor Thomas. That wasn't too bad IMO. With the animated one, that scene with the whale realizing there was a fire in its mouth, THAT really freaked me out!
Adventures of Pinocchio.
Yeah, Monstro was fucking TERRIFYING in the original movie.
I mean, holy shit the sounds he made are bone-chilling, especially that sound he made when he first realized there was smoke in his head.
The moment they show Pinocchio looking at horse poo, I facepalmed.
It's like a metaphor for the entire film...
why would anyone pay this adaptation any attention when Guillermo Del Toro is making a stop motion version?
Further proof of how money hungry Disney has become, not that it needed more. It’s also odd that they took avatar off their own service to put it back in theaters. Most likely trying to capitalize on their second biggest box office movie.
That mouse become a *greedy Rat* !
Mickey the Rat, _"A rat so greedy, that He destroy himself!"_
I didn't think the movie was terrible. Could it have been better? Absolutely. Could it have been worse? Yes. It was enjoyable for what it was. I'm surprised they put that anti rioting message in there on pleasure isle, especially considering the times we live in, but they didn't bash you over the head with woke propaganda like other recent movies do. My biggest complaint though is the ending, why don't we get to see him turn into a real boy? It's heavily implied and we see his legs transform, and then the movie ends. Would have also liked to see all the villains get their just desserts, something the original also didn't do. All in all though, it was a cute little movie, nothing special, but not complete dog poo either
Maybe they're give us a sequel to this movie where Pinocchio 🤥 is already a real boy

Let's be honest. All of their live action remakes are pointless.
Not all of them but some of them are pointless
@@cjgamer6356all of them are pointless
@@jessicapinkman-hd4bw no some of them are pointless
So I realized that the reason Disney made this movie and also the reason Disney left a lot of plot point out, like geppetto wishing for Pinocchio to be a real boy, is so that all the young kids who are now adults and don't fully remember the OG. So basically when they watch the new one with their kids they feel obligated to show them the original to show them either A. Why it's better, or B. To explain things the movie did not. In other words this was a 7 long year pyramid scheme to get double the money from two separate movies. This movie is a god damned scam.
It definitely is a dastardly money scheme.
I agree I'm tired of these blasted terrible remakes!
nah I think the hate for the blue fairy being race swapped stems from this being Disney attempting to be woke for the 128th time
📠
I was not a fan of that either. I immediately cringed.

I don't mean to be racist but I think not all characters deserve to be racebent. Plus, the Blue Fairy should've had hair and better wings.

@@featherguardian6023 yeah
I do not have a problem with the Blue Fairy in this movie just for the simple reason of her being black. My problem is that it's another case of race-swapping for no other reason than forced in inclusion that doesn't make any sense. It's an old Italian fairy tale from the 1800s. It just seems so weirdly random to have the fairy look like a bald central African woman.
But sure, strawman me as a racist radical right person if that makes you feel better... even though that couldn't be any further from the truth.
Same. I'm Brazilian and felt the same way. Love the review and PoopScreen, he had a lot of good points. But that one about: "if you complain about the use of minority casts has a shield for criticism " is exactly what DISNEY wants when they do that. At the same level, I think that the addition of the new girl character and her puppet is the same. Is a bad addition - but if you complain, you are "racist" or "far-right-wing". A very dirty strategy.
I think the blue fairy was mis cast and they should have never made the Blue Fairy bald
I don’t think minority casting is a shield for criticism, but is that your only problem with the Blue Fairy? I think her wings are a little too small, and I’m not a fan of her being bald instead of having natural hair, that’s more a problem with the costume and CGI. But even that’s just an opinion. I just like big wings.
But the blue Fairy was blonde originally, which makes just as little sense in an Italian story as a black woman. But in both cases, she’s a magic entity. Basically one step down from a whole ass Angel in some mythologies.
@@nopressure6986 Makes just as little sense with a blonde fairy as a Central African black fairy? Uhm, no. There are blonde Italians, first of all. Second of all, it's still ethnicities within Europe. It's not nearly as random as a Central African woman appearing as a fairy.
Plus, it just fits with the old-fashioned themes and visuals of fairy tales like these to depicte the blue fairy like the original movie did. You would see stuff like that in European fairy tales all the time. A black Central African bald woman as a fairy though? Yeah, no.
Well said!
There is one thing we can all do to stop these movies from being made.
*STOP PAYING TO WATCH THEM.*
And in the case of the Disney+ exclusives, don't give them any watch time.
I just finished watching it and the ending felt so anticlimactic. I know he turns into a real boy, but I really wanted to see it. Like we saw his legs change, but that's it.
A few years ago something hit me about the song "Got No Strings to hold me down:" Pinocchio's a marionette. Strings don't hold him down, they pull him UP.
Disney remakes need so much help- like some of them are good (ex: Cinderella wasn’t to bad, Mulan was different but honestly it was still good, and the live action Alice and wonderland was lowkey enjoyable).
This movie… ITS NOT IT. The ending is so odd and the scene with the kids at that weird carnival was so uncomfortable for me.
Like the only mf opi care about is the girl with the broken leg…
*too bad, not to.
I just find it weird that the blue fairy doesn’t have hair. The actress shouldn’t be one if she can’t change herself to represent the character. Other than that the movies sucks.
In regards to the blue fairy controversy the outrage isn't because they made her black, it's the fact that they changed her at all, you're right in a way that her race isn't part of her character so it shouldn't be a big deal to change it, and it's not a big deal but the fact that they made the change over something that's not a big deal shows that disney does see it as a big deal that she was white looking originally and made the adjustments in the new movie and that's a problem, especially nowadays where race swaps seem to be happening everywhere for no real reason.
It's weird how these remakes make confusing decisions that mess with the movie's story. Beauty and the Beast, have the hag invite herself in during a ball instead of quaintly asking for shelter at the door, making the Prince a bit justified in turning her away when it should've been a moment to show how shallow he was. Mulan, give the titular character mystical powers that make her strong and athletic by default, taking away how empowering it was that she trained to be a soldier despite being a woman. Pinocchio, barely have him do bad stuff and learn from them, never giving him lessons on how be honest or good.
It'd be one thing if these remakes were just copy and paste live action remakes with little differences from the source material, but they deviate in the weirdest and dumbest ways that make them worse if you want to get into how the OG stories worked.
The Monstro chase became bland and pointless when Pinocchio become a boat motor and zips them away from Monstro with ease. In the original, both Pinocchio and Geppetti are paddling for their lives. You can feel the urgency and desperation. When Pinocchio looks like Dash from The Incredibles, all tension is lost.
Finally an honest review without the unnecessary whining about the Hollywood inclusion quotas.
You mentioned about the controversy surrounding the black fairy. I am a black man myself. Most of the criticism regarding that isn't coming from a place of racism, but rather that it seems like an unnecessary retcon. Like you said yourself. The black fairy is not integral to the plot of the movie. Therefore swapping the skin color did not have to happen. I would like to see more black characters with roles in movies, but this is not the right way to do it. You also mentioned that the girl puppet doesn't really add anything to the scene. Similar can be said with race swapping a character. In fact it can even be considered racist.
People aren't mad that shes black. Its just why such a drastic change to 1 character? If you're going to make an adaptation of a cartoon to real life- a white blonde blue eyed women in a cartoon wouldn't look like a bald black women in real life.
If you're going to make everyone else look like their cartoon self why change her for woke points..? Im black and even i agree that was stupid
Fully agree
In all honesty it’s wayyy too forced and Disney has been doing this in recent movies too. The blacks probably feel even more offended because Disney is basically saying we’re gonna give you this role because we need to show diversity not because you are an amazing actor.
THANK you I’m tired of people thinking “it’s just cause of the skin” no if anything I WANT diversity being earned and actually not due to “oh look have a character with just a different skin tone cause we can’t think of a character that can be it’s own thing and we need the IP for it to rely on this hand me down”. Seriously the more they do it the more obvious they have become
@@Joe-rl4pv not trying to speak for all the “blacks”, but as just one of them, I don’t know why she got the role at all. You’re under the assumption that it wasn’t because of her singing talent, like just about everyone that works for Disney, and that it was just because of her race, instead of in spite of it. Shit, if they just wanted a black person, why didn’t they call me?
Did they take that nose scene from the prison break in shrek?
Everything I hated about the Pinocchio live action remake:
1. Pinocchio has the soul of Geppetto’s dead son. This makes Geppetto look even worse than in the animated movie. In the original I can forgive him his mistakes because I know he’s new at being a father and therefore doesn’t know yet how to be perfect at it but if he had a son before like in this remake, he should know that you have to take your child to school yourself! Also, this change makes Pinocchio look like a replacement which I hate. In the original he made him because he wished for a child so badly because he was lonely and never had one. In this version he basically wishes for a replacement son! Thanks, I hate it!
2. Geppetto still doesn’t take Pinocchio to school himself! Why don’t they finally fix that? This is one of the few things of the animated version that actually should be fixed! So why don’t they finally fix that? They should learn from the 2019 Italian version!
3. Pinocchio goes to school and is kicked out because he is a puppet. What????? Why?????? He should ditch school and go to the theater instead because he should be naughty at the beginning and make mistakes because this is a story about redemption!!!! Seriously, this destroys the entire moral of the story if he is completely innocent at the beginning! In this version it’s completely justified that he goes to the theater instead of taking the easy road to success! The entire moral of the story that you shouldn’t misbehave and should go to school instead of taking the easy road is lost! Thanks, I hate it!!!!!
4. He only reluctantly agrees to go to the theater, very reluctantly. Come on! He should be enthusiastic about being an actor and about taking the easy road to success! Here, he only agrees to be an actor because he had no other choice! The teacher even said puppets belong in the puppet show! So, he really had no other choice than to go there instead of going there to take the easy road to success like in the original! Ugh!!!! Thanks, I hate it!!!!!!
5. The ballerina in the theater seems like his love interest! Thanks, I hate it!!!!!! He is far too young to have a girlfriend and Pinocchio is a story about the love between father and son not romantic love!!!! And it should stay that way! This love interest only distracts from that and adds nothing to the story! It’s completely unnecessary!!!
6. He escapes the cage by lying! That’s a very bad moral! In the original he learns that lying is bad and that it doesn’t help him! Here, they make it seem like lying helps you out! How can you convey such a bad moral????
7. He is captured to got to Pleasure Island and he only very reluctantly agrees to go with them! Once again, the entire moral of the story is lost!!!! He should at least agree to go with them himself and not say that he doesn’t wanna go there on the coach! like that he seems even more innocent! The whole moral is lost! He should change from a bad boy to a good boy!!! That’s the entire point of the story! Here, the development is nonexistent!
8. On the Island he disagrees with everything the children do wrong, and he refuses to misbehave! Like that he really doesn’t deserve to be turned into a donkey! And once again the entire moral of the story about misbehaving is lost because he doesn’t even misbehave! He is perfect at the beginning and perfect at the end! There is no development! Thanks, I hate it!!!!
9. Stromboli is sent to prison and the ballerina takes over the theater. But I don’t understand for what Stromboli is send to prison because he didn’t really commit a crime! It’s not illegal to imprison a puppet so for what did they put him in prison?
10. He loses the ears and tail when he decides not to go the theater again but to search his father. Seriously? That’s all it takes to break the curse? In the original he breaks the curse by sacrificing his life for his father! Here, he breaks it by deciding to do something that he should do anyway and which he was already doing! Thanks, I hate it!
11. They find Geppetto before he is swallowed by the whale and he and Pinocchio are swallowed at the same time. Like that the reunion scene is not as emotional as in the animated movie or the book! Especially since they were only separated for a day not over a year like in the book or at least a few weeks as in the animated movie (because spider webs can’t grow overnight, he had to have been away for at least a few weeks). Like that the touching reunion scene is missing which is my favorite scene in most versions! (It’s especially touching in the 2019 version) Everything that is tragic is taken away especially if Geppetto was only in the whale for two minutes instead of over a year or at least weeks! Thanks, I hate it!
12. The story takes place on only two days! That’s too much story for such a short time! And besides they have no idea what’s the difference between narrated time and reading time!
13. And now the worst part: the ending! They messed up absolutely everything! Pinocchio doesn’t sacrifice himself for his father and doesn’t prove himself doing so! Instead Geppetto is the one who dies and is brought back without a proper explanation just by Pinocchio’s magical tears! Ok, first off, that’s stolen from tangled! And secondly, Pinocchio should die by sacrificing his life for his father to prove himself, become a real boy and break the curse! There is absolutely no reason for Geppetto to die and especially not to be brought back completely without a proper explanation!!! In the original the revival is justified because Pinocchio is transformed into a real boy because he sacrificed himself! Here, there is no real explanation how Geppetto was even brought back except through the tears which are now magical without an explanation! They messed up everything about the ending!!!! Everything!!!! You can’t even say it’s from the book, there it was completely different: In the book, Geppetto was only very ill, he never died, and Pinocchio has to go working to help him! Here, Pinocchio does nothing for his father! He doesn’t even save him from the whale because Geppetto dies, and Pinocchio doesn’t sacrifice himself! Ugh, this should be the great moment: this is where he changes and puts someone else’s needs before his for the first time after all he did! Here, this great moment is completely missing!!!!! This ruins the entire story! There is absolutely no development from a bad boy to a good one! Thanks, I hate it!!!!
14. And he doesn’t even turn into a real boy at the end!!! Are you kidding me?????? That’s what the entire story of Pinocchio is about! It’s about a puppet who transforms in to a real boy because of his love for his father!!! How can you miss that??? How can you change something important as that??? At first I thought I could forgive some mistakes but not with that ending!!! After that ending I knew I hated that movie!!! It’s the worst live action remake ever!!! Thanks, I hate it!!!
Edit: A couple more Things I hated that I forgot to add:
15. I also hated that They Cut the Song little wooden head because it's such a cute Song that Shows how much Geppetto loves Pinocchio and how much He wishes to have a son. The New Songs aren't good in my opinion and don't Show the Love of a father that well.
16. I also hated that The Scene where Pinocchio Burns His Finger was so short and was almost completely Cut. Because this Scene is actually symbolic: At First in the Story Geppetto saves Pinocchio by stopping the fire and later their roles are reversed because later Pinocchio saves Geppetto from drowning at the end. The book equivalent of this Scene is the Scene where Pinocchio Burns His feet Off and Geppetto Takes Care of him and makes him New feet. Then at the end of the book their roles are reversed and then Pinocchio Takes Care of His father. Disney changed the Part of taking Care of each other to saving each other's lives. So the Scene where He Burns His Finger is actually a pretty important Scene that is symbolic and it shouldn't have been Cut down so much. But then again the Remake also completely ruined the ending so the role reversal is completely non existent. Another reason to hate this Remake. It ruined absolutely everything!!!
Couldn’t agree more ! This movie has to be one worst Disney remake only a (little) bit behind Mulan from Disney + !
He does turn into a real boy at the end. Look carefully as Jiminy is narrating and you'll see him become real.
1: you don't need to keep saying Thanks, I hate it. This isn't reddit. And 2: look at 11:33 of this video. Its brief, but he does show to have become human at the end. No attention is drawn to it, but it happens.
A big problem with Disney live action remakes is that they shorten or remove parts that made the original animated film well written in favor of adding in new plot points that either don't really go anywhere or just fall flat
When i try to watch the 2022 Disney Pinnochio
I think the writing of the story is much heading to the message of anti-ableism rather than focusing about a strong moral compass to distinguish between right and wrong which is the center plot of Pinnochio is telling about
Even the ending sounded doesn't giving concrete conclusion
I basically wasting my time to watch an expensive fancy special effects minus well-written plots
Personally. i dont understand why they took away the original ending. No need for that change
Honest John and Gideon were the only two characters in this movie that I actually liked.
I actually found them funny.
I especially loved the scene with the mallet in the beginning.
"Geppetto WISHES for Pinocchio to become a real boy, but he never actually SAYS it. Disney just expects us to KNOW what he wished for."
Yeah, that is kind of ambiguous.
"I wish to have my wife back, so I can stop obsessively making Disney-themed clocks. I wish for my son back, so I can throw away this wooden puppet I made in his image to replace him. I wish to have the same accent for more than one scene!"
5:05 was also in the original, so i don't know what you're on about this being the fault of the director.
The Original Pinnochio is depicted as Anti-Hero Character , Not type of Innocent one that Disney Depicted which every kids now
And even in the original Pinnochio , that wooden puppet kills the cricket
Not to mention the author originally had Pinocchio himself die. But he was told to change it to make it more "suitable" for kids.
@@englishatheart -and the Talking-Cricket shows up in the later chapters at least twice.
That ending!!! Every 5 minutes had me thinking what’s the point in making this but man that ending!! UGHHHH
I think the fairy needed hair though first time I seen the trailer thought the fairy was a guy
the "blue fairy controversy" is just a narrative Disney created to shift blame.
I am not surprised that it was horrible, Disney truly forgotten why those films work as they did .
Woke lazy and terrible movie. Piece of trash, made all the original events in the story look pointless to the story compared to the original. Terrible ending and is utter garbage.
What made the classic Pinocchio memorable was the events that took place that improved his character development over time building to that satisfying conclusion of Pinocchio becoming a real boy.
I was forced to watch the remake of Lion King.....and I'm still not over it.
By who?
It’s so much better than the original drag of a movie
@@IcyDiamond I had to see it in theaters with my family. It was painful.
@@Chase1.9 Ah I see
Okay but I'm pretty sure Disney is just living in the 90s because half of the movies are remakes of the 90s movies.
Pinocchio is from 1940
@@PopScreenOfficial yeah it's one of the half that isn't from the 90s.
@@JosiahRobert14 are you sure you don't mean the '80s?
I thought some of the CGI and acting was pretty good; I liked how Pinocchio was basically a CGI version of how he looked in the original, and some of the actors were doing a great job. Plus, I REALLY liked the Blue Fairy. With that said, yeah the pacing really stank, as did the changes to the plot, the new characters, some of the jokes...well, you pretty much touched on everything I had to complain about. I'm one of the seemingly few people who like a lot of the Disney remakes (except The Lion King, that was disappointing), but even I couldn't stand this one.
6:57 not liking the design is not automatically bigoted or racist. Some people just wouldbe preferred the DISNEY version of live action Pinnochio to stick closer to the DISNEY designs of the characters
yes Pinocchio, is set in the 1870 Italy.
I have to comment about the Blue Fairy. Do I hate that she is played by a Black Woman? No I don't hate it, however some details did bother me.
- Blue Fairy had hair
- The original story did not go so overboard during the scene with the Blue fairy
- And yes the original Movie had a white Blue fairy.
My reason that bothers me isn't about race, but more that these movies were made one way and I feel they only add or change these characters to please a different audience.
There have been characters that were designed white and replaced with black characters. Example is Kingpin in Daredevil. His role was played very well and it didn't ruin the story.
The issue with the Blue fairy here is really how they over did the scene and it was nothing as originally shown.
Also you're right they didn't show her again throughout the rest of the movie.
Last thing if people get bothered by my opinion. That's your choice, but people would be up in arms if black panther was white or the same for Blade. Hell I'd be pissed as well.
It changes the story and it shouldn't be.
The problem is, the different "audience" they're trying to please are the people who never would have gone to see any of their movies, purchased any of their products, or gone to any of their theme parks in the first place. And not only are they failing that, but they're losing the support of people who have been doing all those things for decades.
What's the outro song G?
6:54 I think some people have a problem specifically BECAUSE its pointless. There was no reason for the change, so it can feel to some like its only for the purpose of pandering.
the clocks cameo of Disney's property is cringe 😬
"Do something worthwhile" - audience
"Do something that builds our net-worth" - Disney
I actually had a very big issue with the climax of the movie with Monstro. The difference between the original and the remake and what makes the remake worst is not fantasy at all. The whole story is about a living wood puppet, c'mon, get a better argument. The real issue is actually about stakes and presentation. In the original 1940 film Monstruo chased Pinocchio and Geppetto while they tried their hardest to escape rowing a rustic and rushed made raft, each lunge of Monstruo and impact in the water threw off balance our protagonists, the struggle along with the music, and the menacing presence and power of Monstruo made the scene tense, anyone that has swim in the sea before knows how much effort it takes to traverse it, basically it is a force greatest than us, and this scene portraits that perfectly and uses it on its favor when Pinocchio has to drag his father to a cave while swimming and Monstro is getting closer and closer.
In the other hand the remake makes it so that Monstro isn't that intimidating, funny enough in this version Monstruo looks more monstruous, but its presentations doesn't carry the same weight, instead of a tense high stakes scene, the scene is treated more like a action race, instead of a quickly improvised raft, Pinocchio and Geppetto use a little boat, which despite being a little detail is already diminishing the fact that they're supposed to be in a dire and almost hopeless situation, and to finish to kill the tension and stakes, Pinocchio in this version is able to move his feet really fast, and that's how they get the impulse for escaping Monstro's grasp (figuratively, Monstro doesn't have hands). Very different having Pinocchio struggling to drag his father to safety, using all his strength swimming while the imponent creature is about to get them, from just having a superpower that helps them keep good distance from Monstro. This even diminishes Pinocchio's worth as a person, while in the original he put all his efforts in rescuing his father, costing him his life. In the remake despite his ability he couldn't save Geppetto, and instead they resort to Pinocchio having magic in him and revive him, this even throws out the way the message the remake was trying to say. Geppetto says something along the lines "Look at what you can do, you don't have to be a real boy, you're already perfect", but no, even with his abilities he failed, Geppetto died. People have made critics about the Blue fairy being a Deus Ex Machina in the original, but at least she did not intervene when it was important, meaning she helped Pinocchio when he made mistakes, but it was always when he already experienced the consequences, and Pinocchio proved his worth as a good boy by himself, no magic powers, no cartoony abilities, aside from the fact of being a wooden boy.
I hope that with these extensive commentary people can see, how this is not only a bad adaptation, but it's also bad storytelling for the new message and morals that they wanted to tell. A complete disaster, even though I just wrote about the climax and ending, but make no mistake, the rest of the movie is like this.
Is it ok to have problems with fairy’s muscular arms? She looks like a MMA fighter! I’m afraid she’ll break someone’s nose with a fist if they disagree with her. They could have made her more graceful- you know, like a fairy, not like a gangster
her . . . her biceps are average. . . .
About the fairy, its not being racist. People would be angry if any character is race swapped
The problem I've had with the Blue Fairy is that the makeup & outfit were very lackluster.
So two Pinnochio movies are horrid...the cards are in your table Del Torro.
I would be Ironically hilarious if these live action remakes caused a decline in subscribers for Disney +
I’m sorry but y’all are dramatic. like in my opinion the movie was cute and fun and yes there were some things that aren’t in the original movie, but it doesn’t mean everything should stay the same. Y’all are looking into the movie too hard, saying cause it’s “CGI” or “boring or too slow” and it’s the movie. They capture everything, the magic, nostalgic, and every moment from the original, like what more do you guys even want??? And it’s just a movie and yknow it’s Disney so ofc it’s going to be corny since it’s live action. you guys aren’t real Disney fans if you don’t like it for how it is and should give Disney a chance and respect the people who made the movie and the actors.
At least it followed the source material
This is Hollywod once again having to try to make a movie out of something from the WAY past because Hollywood nothing NEW and ORIGINAL to come up with whatsoever.
How many people were sitting around thining about Pinocchio before they came up with this movie....NOBODY this is ANOTHER total and completely UNoriginal remake of something that has already been done Pinocchio is from the WAY past and that is where these filmmakers are having to go and try to keep regurgitating what has already been done because that have NOTHING new and original.
Pinochio....SERIOUSLY Hollywood THIS is what you guys are making a 2022 film about...PINOCHIO????
I can watch the 1940 amimated film if I want to I DO NOT need this utterly pointless remake.
Only unforgivable element about this Blue Fairy is that they made her wings look like Slenderman's tentacles.
they shoehorned in characters that weren't in the original.... dumb. we turned it off half way thru
I personally don’t mind the live action movies and kinda love them but let’s be honest if the live action remakes were different than the animated film people would be mad for it being different
The original but better 🤷♂️
People can keep hating these movies cuz they’re different, but it’s the same movie with better graphics. Except Mulan. That one sucked.
I hate how Disney got too child friendly with movies nowadays. I hate how parents complain about movies being to "adult rated" or whatever, even though, parents watched them as children with no problem. I hope the later movies are more faithful to the original movies they're doing.
Geppetto didn't just have clocks he had music boxes and I'm sure he had a couple dolls and other puppets in there. Why did they stick with just clocks idk
Imma be honest tho…i loved the jungle book because i felt it was more faithful to the book and the story went somewhere. Pinocchio was…a disaster. I was kinda traumatised by the cartoon as a kid but the story had a strong message, this…no message, no point so disappointed. It was going somewhere in the beginning but for me, the last 5 minutes just brought it down 😢
Though* Is it that hard to type the last three letters?
@@englishatheart yes it is that hard 🤡🫢🙂
Gotta say I did not even know this was remade let alone had come out. It looks like that meme with "Can I copy your homework?" Just with the person talking to them self.
I thought there was already a live action Little mermaid in 2018
Let's have an Incredible Journey remake but it's traditionally animated.
I wish people would stop deraiding all the Disney live action remakes. It really just depends on the director. I thought Cinderella was not only good but masterful. Beauty and the Beast was lovely. I didn't watch Lion King because I didn't care about the original and didn't give a crap about a remake. But you can't lump them all at once and say they're all bad.
i have never watched the original pinocchio movie (im 15 sorry) but i knew the circus girl was a random character disney added in for no reason at all. we dont get to know that much about her besides the fact that she "dreams of her plié". she has her own puppet show now but so what?
My favorite part was when Ultron faced down Pinocchio, and they turned "No Strings on Me" into a heartfelt duo ballad. Truly inspiring!
WAIT ALSO IN 2020 THEY MADE A LIVE ACTION MULAN MOVIE I haven't seen that movie and I really wanted to back in 5th grade but you know since the coronavirus AKA covid-19 started that I wasn't able to see it also I wasn't able to see the new SpongeBob movie or the new Scooby-Doo movie
Hi Ricardo any chance you can make a DreamWorks video about the company with it's movies especially it's Rise and Fall?
I thought the only bad remake was Dumbo because it's nothing like the original (I don't get why the Lion King is so hated on but okay guys). Btw I thought Pinocchio was really cute
At least Pinocchio looked like his original animated counter part unlike the Beauty and the Beast remake
Because in the Lion King remake, the animals’ facial expressions had no emotion when they spoke or sang, hence why it looked so boring, and looked more like a National Geographic documentary instead
Snoak holding Rey looks real, Geppeto and Punnochio doesn't
The only acceptable kind of remake I will enjoy watching will have to be as creative as "The Lion King 1 1/2."
Father! When can I leave to be on my own?
*I GOT THE WHOLE WORLD TO SEE!*
Watch any other Pinocchio film except the ones made by Disney.
This may seem off topic, but they released a live action Lady and the Tramp. DOES ANYONE EVEN REMEMBER IT BEING RELEASED???? I sure as heck didn't. No one even talks about it like they talk about Mulan or the Lion King. I haven't seen it if your wondering.
I remember people were saying Tom Hanks is a possible Ped now he's playing a role as Pinocchio's father creepy
The image you see of Pinocchio "becoming a real boy" isn't actually a reality and was just a "maybe he did, maybe he didn't" imagery lol
The BEAUTIFUL Gothic woodwork in Gepettos workshop is gone... in favor of Disney product placement....
I don't mind a black person playing a role in a movie my problem is these are live action remakes and they keep swapping
The characters with different skin colors and it pisses me off because this is supposed to capture the original film
Its distracting that the Blue Fairy looks so different, taking me out of the movie
They need to do away with the pleasure island scene.
It was ok, I'm glad the fairy was a WOMAN...
I was just so confused because there a Pinocchio supposed to come out on Netflix and it's by Gullielmo del Toro (and it looks good). I had no idea Disney is coming up with Pinocchio AS WELL?? what's going on here
Seriously though we well the ones who complain about this stuff but are actually human/kind don't hate on the actor we have what has happened to the character like I don't go around hating on those actors feeds etc after the movie came out as that's a no no just plain out rude thing to do
I actually like this movie up to the ending because he didn’t become human
actually he did look at the last scene again and notice his wooden legs turn into real legs.
@@trevorpgamer1936 I just rewatched it thx
@@Impeor no prob
Can I have a Root Beer?
Nope until you are grown up
No mention of the "fixes" that break parts around them? Like what happened with Beauty and the Beast? I prefer the French remake anyway.
... Did they not bother animating the ears or anything? I mean so Lion King characters can emote.
The first live action was mile better a d they used practical effects and had a way better story of how he became alive
When you have kids make sure they watch the original before seeing live remakes
Why did he not say the iconic “father when can I go out and be on my owwwwwn”
I agree and saw it yesterday terrible as a remake
