    I totally love the idea of letting the yarn do what it wants. Everyone has different tensions so trying to get a perfect square without a whole bunch of fiddling around could be a pain.

      Yeah sometimes that’s the best (and only) way to make it work and have fun!

      @glauvie 5 місяців тому +1

      For me to have fun with it, it would have to be a grab it and go situation. The endless fiddling would make me put it down.

      @@glauvie once you figure out what works there is much less fiddling around. I’ve made over 30 African flowers - it’s definitely my grab and go project!

    The scarf made of single, half-double, and double crochet sounds like a really fun brain-game kind of project to me. Each color is a little puzzle to figure out what stitch combo fits it all in.

      It was fun to figure out!! It definitely needs an edging though. It’s a little wonky. 🤣

    Your thought process worked beautifully. I ❤ your African Flower square. If the square doesn’t work out, then use the yarn for a different project. I like how you did this. You didn’t limit yourself. Good for you. Thank you for sharing.

      Really that was the only way to not get annoyed and frustrated! And after I got passed the initial “this isn’t working” I began to enjoy the puzzle and figuring other things out just for the heck of it!

    I really love the African flower so was so glad to read that you have done a demonstration (tutorial) for that, thanks! :)
    I tried for the first time today to see if I could get a granny square to work from this yarn and did have to do most rounds a few times, tightening my tension from round three, but actually got it to work after several attempts!
    I didn't do my granny square like they suggest to do as I don't like that gappy style, and have noticed that most people who switch to their preferred method have better success! 🤷🏻‍♀️
    So I used a 7mm, did a magic circle, started with a stacked single crochet instead of doing a chain of 6, no chains in between clusters and just one chain in the corners, and because my yarn ran out with about 5 double crochets to go before the end of the round on the last round, I instead modified the corners just for that last round, and did 2 dc's, ch 1, then 3 dc's, as I worked out that would give me enough extra yarn to get the last round finished, and that worked!?!
    Was so relieved to get it working in the end so recommend trying this and you should get a complete correctly lining up square! I have ordered a crochet hook set online as I didn't own a 6.5mm hook so am keen to try that when it arrives to see if it works better sizing down a little to that. I figure each round should have a little more give to it that way and I won't need to make my tension quite so tight for the last few rounds, my finger has been quite sore since making the square from having to hold the yarn so tight, so I'm not making any more squares until I can try it with a 6.5mm hook!🤞🏻

      @TheCATTLadyDesigns  25 днів тому

      It's crazy the hoops we have to go through to get it to just "work" the way it's supposed to lol. There are too many variables in tension and style and even the way the yarn is dyed to make this something that could possibly work for everyone!! The concept was so fun though!

    I can totally relate with you, I can’t get it to work and when I get close the granny square is bigger than I want. I still think this granny square yarn will be fun.

    Your crochet bucket hat is adorable and would be a keeper for me. I like how the stipe pattern camouflages the seam. Also, with the original granny square pattern, I had to go down a half mm size on the last row of white when I first used it. After that, smooth sailing. The original pattern seems to give a lot of leeway to tweaking it, and maybe that was intentional...the last row is where you seam it and you don't want quite so much stretchiness for wearables to fit well. And the single chain in between clusters keeps the stiches consistent as two of the three stitches don't "climb" the sides of surrounding stitches using extra yarn. Still they might have made the last color row a bit longer. I have completely avoided granny squares for 40 years all because of weaving in ends and now this Red Heart Granny Square All in One yarn has changed that...Have to say I am enjoying this yarn quite a bit. Thank you for your super creative ideas.

    I'm working on a cardigan in hyper violet and I've been having very minimal problems doing squares. I'm using an I/5.5mm hook and the granny square pattern from the Ariana Cardigan (3dc clusters, 1 ch between, 2 ch in the corners). I think some of the colors very in length from square to square, but I've never had to tear back more than half a row since making the first square so I think that might be a good square pattern/gauge for anyone having trouble!

    It's nice you're showing people what to do with this yarn who have already bought it and are stuck with it. I'm so glad I didn't buy any of this overpriced acrylic that's really just a distraction from being productive with my time. I have seen much more attractive granny squares made with colors other than what Redheart chose.

    • @TheCATTLadyDesigns
      @TheCATTLadyDesigns  5 місяців тому

      It’s definitely not for everyone and does require a lot of trial and error. I like the concept but perhaps not executed the best way by the company. A lot of people don’t care for the colors and frankly it’s just not working out for a good number of people too which can be super frustrating!
