Reposition a design after a Motor Error, Crash, or Reboot

  • Hi all,
    Today I want to show you how I reposition a my edge to edge designs after I reboot my tablet. This can be because of a motor error, or I just had to shutdown for the night and come back the next day. I remember when I first started long arm quilting, I always thought I had to finish it before I turned my machine off, because I wasn't sure how to line things back up...well not anymore. I often come back to projects days later and this is how I line everything back up to keep going. There are a lot of new owners out there and I hope this helps you out.

    I like this video because the next time I'm thinking, "how do you use drag and drop to find your spot again?", I can come right to this video. Invaluable! When I first got my machine I would try to time things so I could finish before I went to bed AND I definitely left my machine on overnight more than once. I finally sat down at some point and figured out a method for myself that I could do, but it's way less elegant that this drag and drop method. I really want to add this method to my bag of tricks.

    Love your videos! When I am looking for help on anything with the pro-stitcher, I look for your videos first. They are clear and easy to follow. I do have a question for you. I am about to do my first border with an edge to edge in the middle of the quilt. Would you suggest that I quilt the center area (edge to edge) first and roll my bars back to do the border after the center area is completed? Thanks in advance!

    • @adamsewfun.
      @adamsewfun.  2 роки тому

      Hi Joan, I would do the top border and the corners, baste the side borders as I go but stitch the center with my e2e. When I get to the bottom, I would the do the bottom corners and border. I then take my quilt off the frame, turn it, and reload it to do the sides.

  • @hoosierquilt

    This is really an interesting and easy way to realign your design and quilt, thanks! The video was super clear and easy to understand. Question: After you get all realigned as shown, would you want to jump down a start point to the second row's start point, so you can then resume stitching at the start of the second row?

    • @adamsewfun.
      @adamsewfun.  3 роки тому +2

      You are exactly correct. You would jump down to the beginning of whatever row you are needing to stitch next. Sometime I come back at row 4 and I would jump to stitch row 5.

      @adamsewfun.  11 місяців тому

      Sorry Carmen, it sounds like a step missing a step somewhere. Hard to help specifically when I’m not there with you. Try moving your start point into the row you want to stitch, then using the up arrows to cycle the start point to the point you want to start. Not the Jumps arrows, the arrows that are either above or below the scroll bar.

    Thank you Adam! When you are doing this do you need to redo your frame space and area or will bringing the design in automatically set it?

    • @adamsewfun.
      @adamsewfun.  7 місяців тому

      Here’s the thing with frame space. If you advance and make sure the next row is in your frame space, you should be in the clear. With that being said, I think it’s best practice to create a new frame space with every pass. The reason being, the space your machine can move shrinks with each pass, so creating a new space will really show where your machine can more. You do not need a new area unless there is something you have to do with it. Once you set up an E2E the area really isn’t needed anymore.

    Really enjoying your videos! My question is, do you use this same method of repositioning when stitching a cropped block, within the same quilt, with a different design? I can't seem to get my cross hairs to go on that start and stop points of the block.

    • @adamsewfun.
      @adamsewfun.  3 роки тому

      I'm not sure I follow fully. Are you cropping one block but using that same design in multiple blocks? If I were doing this, I would set up the first block. Once that is the way I like it (cropped, sized, position), I would baseline and save that block. When I needed the next one, I would open the saved file and use an area to skew into that new block or just use the area to help me align the new block. Hope that helps?

Barbara, I have a series quilting an E2E from start to finish, you should check that out. It starts at loading and goes all the way to cropping the final row. • @adamsewfun.

    • @adamsewfun.
      @adamsewfun.  Рік тому

      Once you have it repositioned, you have to pick where you want to start. If you are starting at the beginning of a row, you can go to new start/end. Under the Start column on the sidebar, you have 3 sets of arrows. The bottom set are under the word “jump” or “ump.” If you use this set, each time you move it, the start point will go to the start after a jump. So pushing down once should take you to the beginning of the second row.

    What do you do if you didn’t save, can you go back and start where it left off and finish the row with your design?

    • @adamsewfun.
      @adamsewfun.  3 роки тому

      If you didn't save and only had a motor error, you can reconnect, line up and start where you ended. If the tablet crashes, you will have to recreate everything from the start. If I ever have a motor error and realize I didn't save. The first thing I do after it reconnects is save it. Then I can line it up and and continue stitching.

Just one connection need to juggle loose to cause an error. Most of the time, this doesn't happen. If you get the lightning bolt in the top right, you just need to select it and it will reconnect your motors.
