Wow, what a great advertisement for Auckland. You have packed a lot into your time here. You could also spend some time around Orewa, Red Beach and the Whangaparaoa Peninsula in general.

I watched this with my son and he said, we were just there, haven't we been there too? About lots of the places you focus on.
A place you might enjoy in the CBD is the Maritime museum. It is free to Auckland residents, usually hardly anyone there plus many things for kids to touch.
In east Auckland there is the Howick historical museum, a slice of Auckland history. There is lots of room to run around with lots of incidental learning.

Kia ora becca🙋 I'm what you call a "country pumpkin" many years ago my job at the time transferred me up to auckland to assist with our office setup and being it was my first time going to auckland the phrase "culture shock" was definitely a understatement...lol, to me Auckland was one big fast bustling traffic jam🤣 people would bump into me bcoz apparently I walk to slow the trauma goes on, but to top it all off piha try to kill me😲it's a city where you either love it and make it work or hate it and move on, I know aux gets abit of a bad wrap but i hope your video will make people think otherwise about what Aucklanders themselves have in their back yard or you maybe just visiting or even taking up residents, people need to broaden their horizons so to speak when it comes to big cities , auckland and surrounding areas have opportunities with so much to offer and do for all kiwis as your video shows, so well done Becca cool video take care mch love from whakatane.🙋

In Devonport you got the free Military Museum (it's up a little side street down by naval base), in Western Springs up by Zoo is a airplane museum, Pt Chev Beach and playground/BBQ's. Oh yeah all public BBQ's are electric and free to use. Raglan is a shirt drive and Costco opening soon.

I can remember our family making the long drive up to those West coast beaches when I was a kid (a long time ago ) and coming home with a sack of mussels or cockles. Can't do that these days, the rocks have been pretty much picked clean by too many greedy people. Probably lucky if you see a crab in the rocks now too, but then I haven't been up that way for a while, so maybe it's improved.
Another place to visit might be Macnut Macadamia farm and cafe at South Head, up past Helensville.
A bit further on is Shelly Beach, and some lake as well I think. Also some hot pools at Kaipara, not sure what they are like these days though.

Hi Becca, I live on the Shore, we seldom go to CBD, some time passing it when we go to Mission bay or wondering around at Wynyard Quarter. I often walk the Takapuna beach with my boys, but I have to say Milford beach is much better, the sand is finer and no much shells, so perfect for swimming in the summer. I love the Zoo too, definitely recommend you go yourself. Also Rangitoto Island is amazing too.

Not far from he Botanic Garden is Totara Park - Bush walks, mountain bike trails and in the summer a lap pool and toddlers pool.
Also while in South Auckland, visit some of the local bakeries & takeaways - some very different foods to what you are used to and incredibly cheap too. The car park on the corner of Bairds and East Tamaki roads has a good selection at the town centre there. I bet your young man will love Island Pankeke (Pancakes) - balls of deep fried banana bread - just check they are not too hot!

@@Becca.Loveless Another that may suit you better is 'Auckland Indian Sweets and Snacks' near the corner of Avenue Road and Atkinson Ave in Otahuhu (They have an entrance on each street and have been renovating so I dont know where their entrance is currently). All 100% vegetarian, they have been there over 30 years. Go there early for lunch - various curries served on a pressed metal tray. Their sweets and snacks are extremely good too. Being early for lunch is important - they make a batch of 4-5 curries each day & when it's gone that's it, it's not their main business. Sweets n Snacks always available though.

You've definitely seen a lot of Auckland!
And a very good and extensive list too 👌
Another term for central Auckland is the "inner city" or "inner city suburbs". If you live in Mt Eden, that's definitely considered inner city. Central Auckland includes the entire isthmus.
Unlike the US, inner city doesn't have bad connotations here. In fact, many of the wealthiest areas in the country are in the inner city.
Also not sure if you've noticed, but the word 'suburb' has a slightly different meaning to what it means in the US.

    • @Becca.Loveless
      @Becca.Loveless  2 роки тому

We have seen a decent amount of Auckland but I definitely feel like there’s so much more for us to discover.
