I don't know what you do for a living, buy you really could teach auto repair 101. I'm a retired mechanic of about 30 years of working on cars and watch videos now and then out of interest and boredom lol. This makes me feel comfortable buying this that I can now install it myself.. and correctly. My fuel gauge isn't working and the mechanic told me it was the dash.. not sure if this would fix that.. but this looks like a nice update with alot of features. Thanks again.

BIGBEN1108 thank u..there is no voltmeter display..it just gives u a warning light if the volts are under a certain number

Nice video , I used it to install one in my 71 Camaro. I was wondering how the speedometer was working in the one you installed. On mine the needle will stick at the 1 mph mark before dropping to zero after comming to a stop , drives me nuts.Did the one you installed do that ? Keep up the nice work I'm going too use the one on leaf springs next. THX
This is a great video. I'm curious to know how big an undertaking it would be to reverse the procedure. I bought a car with one of these dashes installed by the prior owner. It's very nice but I think I would like the original dash reinstalled.

Nice video man !! i installed VHX-70C-MAL: Silver Alloy Background on a 71 Chevelle .. I'm having issues with fuel gauge , keep getting EE error , connected the SND positive wire and Ground wire to the digital box , noticed you only connected one wire ?

Finally got a hold on my my very own VHX-78-C for my 81 Malibu wagon/350. I've noticed you chose to install the oil pressure sender at the oil filter housing using threaded nipple and other hardware to secure. Also noticed that old pressure switch was attached to pipe with the new sender.Question: if new sender is being used, why would the old sender be connected? The location of my sender is on the rear of the block with one wire connected. How can i used the same setup as you did for your Camaro? Meaning my single wire won't reach the location of the oil filter housing? If I was to use the location on the back of the block, would I need an angled nipple to clear the distributor? What would you suggest as I've been to my local Lowes and could not find the the required hardware! Thanx in advance

I have a Dakota Digital VHX system in my 1969 Camaro, I have had them about 5 years now and love them. I am just getting ready to upgrade to their latest HDX system I like them that much plus i am adding their TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system) right now Everything works just like modern cars instrument systems.

Boy I LOVE this model of Camaro , and have owned several. my Black on Black 88 5.7 IROC was favorite. In 1991. Had a convertible IROC too. But they were SOO cheaply made it is comical today. All that plastic the squeaks and creaks. But still today I long for another one. Thinking 6.0L is swap. Lol who knows...

But those consoles and dashes... Horrendous..window seals trim. Door latch. It was the time is all. Like I said I'm an 80 s kid. I love them. But my Mustangs seemed to have better interiors. Or better built.

Hi..yes, you have to drive for a mile and then let the computer know when you hit exactly a mile..dakota digital is one of the best

My question is as follows. I've installed a VHX cluster in my 1981 Malibu. I've had to replace the old cluster(sweep style dash) to be able to install the one from Dakota. I believe i"ve installed the setup according to specs from Dakota, up to the part when operating dash, gauge was reading fuel level according to what fuel is in tank. I have a full tank and now no fuel reading. According to Dash Printed Circuit Pin Locations for 1981 "A' body, pin #4,circuit #30 (pink wire is for fuel sender and that is the wire inserted into fuel sender terminal at controller.At fuel setup procedure, checked for sender type and set same for GM90. At fuel system test, system reads at 999 ohms. What about the other pink wires. Where circuit #39 is for 12 volt ignition? Could you help me out with what my be the reason for not reading fuel.

What gauge size connector did you use to connect the turn signal wire from the car harnesses to the Dakota digital white and green wire since the wire sizes are different?
Primetime132 i dont remember..i work on alot of cars..my rule of thumb is to go with the thicker gauge of the two wires
do you know where I could find a cluster gauge pin out for a 83 sport coupe and would the wire hook ups be the same for the guages cause my cluster has the big gas gauge and the idiot lights

Im thinking about buying the digital instrument system for my '88 IROC, however the description states it doesn't fit models with the "indicator light package." i tried researching what it means by that, and i cant figure out what the "indicator light package is?" does anybody know?

First, thank you for this walk through. It's been a ton of help. Question though: On my manual it mentions adding an additional ground for the fuel. That seemed kinda odd to me and it doesn't look like you added one. Any thoughts on that? Just want to make sure I'm not risking anything.

tbh..it really is a big improvement over the stock gauges..the stock gauges also aren't that accurate in the early model thirdgen camaros. Also putting in a bunch of autometer gauges would probably run you more money..i would also recommend doing it yourself, labor could get very costly...Thank you for watching and commenting :)

I got problem with my Dakota gauge , when I drive slowly the mph goes over 120 , I don't know what that shit !!
something is up with the sending unit - try to re-calibrate as outlined in instructions

thank you for the info. I think i have some issues with the stock gauges. The fuel and and oil pressure do not read. I changed the oil pressure sensor switch today and........ nothin. I have the video posted on my page

That is a shit way to splice wire. You should always solder the wires or at least use soldering type butt splice connectors.
Never solder..it falls apart after a while..research it

It looks like it is an all LED backlighting, so this would work great with an LSA.
