I think this common room wasn’t as mind blowing for a lot of people simply due to how much exposure we’ve had to it over the years and throughout the Harry Potter films. That being said, I still think it looks gorgeous and as a Gryffindor, it looks like home!
Yep, agreed. We've seen it so many times across video games and the movies. But I think they did a great job! Everything looks gorgeous even if it's a bit cluttered 😄
But in saying that i had really high expectations because of how much exposure we have had because you mess this common room up people would instantly be turned off this game
Ravenclaw is my house of choice, but this is certainly my favourite common room. I love the mediaeval aesthetic with all the tapestries, armour and banners, plus how rugged and untidy and generally “lived-in” it looks; it seems like the sort of place where a knight would hang up his sword and rest from his battles, which fits “bold and chivalrous” Gryffindor perfectly.
A stricter, but perhaps not meaningfully different, translation for the motto in the window would be "Be Strong in Spirit". I wonder if it was Gryffindor's _personal_ motto, or just sagely advice to the house's residents.

I'm super happy the devs seem to be sticking to only the original books (and somewhat only the first two movies) for designs and details. So much of the Harry Potter side material and merch nowadays has adopted many incorrect or altered details. For example, much of the Ravenclaw materials around now have Raven iconography and Blue-Silver coloration, when originally Ravenclaw was _Eagles_ with Blue- _Bronze_ coloration. On the poster: my thinking is that it's a recruitment poster - something like "The Chudley Cannons are looking for strong new recruits throughout this year as we train towards winning our 21st World Cup!" so perhaps the game may take place during the year _before_ their 21st win.
It's the Common Room that feels the most "normal", that really feels like a place for students to come after class and just hang out. All the others feel very neat and tidy, this feels like a Common Room that's been lived in
I think I would be that guy in the gryffindor common room playing chess and snealkly drinking beer, that's hiding under the table lol. Wouldn't even get caught mate.
Something to note for your Ravenclaw Common Room video is that it’s located in the Lookout Tower. I took a close look at the tower’s exterior in some Hogwarts Legacy posters and it matched up with the windows in the Common Room. It could also mean that the spiral staircase in the upstairs where the skylight is could lead to the tower’s balcony.
Going off the idea of the notice board, we see in the state of play at 4 minutes 16 seconds that our character uses accio to grab a piece of paper out of the air in one of the stairways while the narrator says "while completing side assignments that are part of a special curriculum." It could be possible that that incident is tied to that notice board like a students lost homework but it could also be collectables towards a special item or spell similar to how they were used in the assassins creed series.
The town that I live in is called chudleigh and we have a little bed and breakfast that JK Rowling spent a couple weeks in while she was writing the books. She used to eat lunch in my local pub and that’s where she got the name the chudley cannons from. Crazy seeing my tiny little home be sort of referenced in something this huge
One thing im wondering is how the game will handle post game exploration. If the game is set during one or multiple years.. i hope we can continue playing after the credits roll.
I could see a few scenarios 1. Some open world rpgs have a last mission where stuff is destroyed in the world so after you beat the last mission it puts you back right before you started it if you want to continue exploring 2. Free exploring after the last mission assuming nothing changes in the overworld graphically In addition to those, new game+ (which i really hope for) usually adds a harder difficulty BUT you can keep your stats, upgrades and items and replay the game again with all those
Part of Gryffindor not being present in the house might have to do with the house spirit being less about self aggrandizement than other houses, especially Slytherin (but maybe not hufflepuff?), so the founder is not worshiped like a deity.
Possibly. For Ravenclaw and Slytherin, the statues seem like something you admire. They're huge and impressive. But in Hufflepuff you just have her painting in which she's holding her cup a bit like she's looking over her protégées while saying cheers to them (so a bit more like a friend or mother).
Fantastic video! Can't wait to carve out my own path! It sucks Quidditch won't be in the game, but I'm more than positive they'll continue to shower us with updates for a long time and Quidditch is most likely set to be released as a free dlc.
As a Hufflepuff, I'm bothered by the lack of plants you guys have in your common room. Not a single piece of flora. Even Slytherin has some few sad and grey plants, all you guys have are the images of plants on your tapestry. You guys should complain to the head of your house.
they put sooooo much love into those common rooms! Imagine the rest of the game!!! I can't wait! aaand to be said...I somehow, can hardly believe that they would put so much time and effort into makeing seasons a thing in this game, and give us just one single year.... plus: maybe that is also a reason letting us start as a 5th year student?
Yeah, you can discount any portrait that has a neck ruff as being Godric Gryffindor, because those came into fashion in the 1500's, five centuries after Hogwarts was founded.
I’m so glad I can get excited about this game again now we have a release date. Your tours of the common rooms have been great but I’m really excited about the Ravenclaw one as a Ravenclaw myself! Thanks for your videos.
I said this on your live stream with XpectoGo etc. I think the interact button confirms controller and spell lay out. Maybe: L1 Parry (protego) R2 stupefy (based on dual sense trailer) R1 Apugno/ Accio when exploring L2 secondary spell or spell wheel Possible to press 2 buttons at once for new spells. Square interact X climb or jump Circle dodge or dash Triangle use item or potion Dpad could also be items or ratchet and clank style quick select I think from a gameplay point though that different spells could come through combos though
I'm pretty sure the lost notice board will be in game. Remember in the gameplay trailer earlier this year they said something about you collecting items for people? I guess maybe that means the notice board will be there?
When you consider the amount of time and effort spent in the recreation of Hogwarts alone, I wouldn't be surprised if the Trilogy theory is correct. Which would mean this game takes place in our 5th year, the second game in our 6th year and the third game take place in our 7th year, with the Quidditch Championship included. I just don't think they'd spend so much money on just one game and not re-use all those assets in anything else.
11:46 I was about type that same thing. It would make sense for them to have already gotten 20 trophies, and going for a 21st. It's the most logical, non-stretching explanation
If Quidditch World Cup still takes place just before the beginning of school year, and the game begins in 1890, and the Chudley Cannons have just recently won their 20th cup before the start of term, then the 21 on the poster could mean something like "going for win number 21", which wouldn't take place for another full year, in 1891. This would still make the 22nd victory fall directly before term begins, year 1892. Math only seems odd if you assume 21 is for current victories, and as pointed out, it seems more likely if this was the case, the poster would indicate champions somewhere on it. Just a thought. I agree with the theory it may be a recruitment poster of sorts, with a hypothetical message reading something like "come join our team and help us get victory number 21. This of course would make more sense if professional teams placement works similar to how school teams work, and allows for new recruits to tryout to join at the beginning of a season.
Hello Retro! Remember me?? When is the next stream? Really looking forward to it and i hope i will be able to attend it bcos the last one was at 2 am(( Love ur videos as always, great content, thanks
Please don't hate me, but I used to think Gryffindor house was overrated - this was purely because Harry and his friends being Gryffindors meant the house was always front and centre while the other houses were in their shadow somewhat. But after watching your video, I have a new appreciation for it - like you said, it has the spirit of house pride.
I definitely think the poster is like an advertisement for their possible 21st win ... The tournament takes place every 4 years and I feel like this is a 'Get your tickets now! Join us for our 21st win!'
if we were to go by symbolism on the cc poster.... the 21 is on the same part of it as the seekers hand and the golden snitch so that could symbolize them chasing their 21st win.... also i would prefer the game to take place over one year, that way we have a possability of get sequals to finish off the 6th and 7th years and im all for more games coming from this games engine and general foundation it is setting for the exploration this new era of time.
Still hoping for more than one year, but we'll have to wait and see. IF Hogwarts Legacy covered three years, but our character was still the 'star' of two more games, maybe those games could take place in our characters life post-Hogwarts. Either way, this is a game I could see myself playing for years. Literally. Even as a Hufflepuff I love the Gryffindor common room. The first words that come to mind are: 'regal' and 'royal'.
i guarantee those chests are players inventory storage system. I mean you can gather herbs and such so yeah theres no question that you would need somewhere to store ingredients you don't need to carry around. Also, stained glass windows are all connected, not individual art pieces. Its someone riding a broom over the vast lands that surround Hogwarts, denoting that we will be able to see the same scene from the air ourselves.
The chudly cannons won the last match in 1892 but it wasn't 21 times in a row they won so it could very well be that they are going for number 21 all the way back in 1890
The Chudley Cannons poster is definitely not looking like a championship winning poster, so my theory is that the common room tour was recorded at the end of our school year (let's say june 1891), and the Chudley Cannons just started their practise before the new season begins (1891-1892) So yeah I agree with you :D
Well I had typed a nice thought out response to this, but then accidentally hit the back button and lost everything 🤦🏻♂️. Basically it was..."latin is complicated." For "animo," one of the possible definitions I came across was to "encourage" or to "embolden," so I went more toward that for my translation. Be strong and courageous/be brave....basically the same thing. Yours says it more succinctly though 😆 Also...I'm not a Latin expert and am using Google and other translation sites to try and figure this out! Haha.
As far as the multiple school years go it doesn’t make sense for the seasonal tech to exist if you aren’t going to be playing multiple school years. From my perspective to get the full range of that tech the seasons must change multiple times. So I’m thinking 2 maybe 3 years of fun here.
Hey Retro, this came to me recently. In the State of Play trailer, they have that shot of a quidditch player, that makes no sense as a tease for the sport since it doesn't exist. However, the rider is more well defined than the filler npc's. This is more in line with the teachers and named students like Sweeting, Sallow, and .. Onai? Is that how you spell it? Anyway, what's your take on this being an introduction not to brooms, but a Ravenclaw companion?
I actually think the shot of the person flying up on the broom with the quidditch pitch in the background is the flight instructor. You can see that same person sitting in the Great Hall at the teacher's table in another shot of that trailer.
I was thinking the same thing! I wondered if the 4 companions get assigned to the player as a tutor of sorts; to help catch them up to 5th year status. The trailer talks about "you do have some catching up to do", then proceeds to introduce some of the companions. My theory is that Nat is with us in Charms (@4:23 she is with us again in Charms), Poppy for Magical Creatures, Sebastian for DADA, and perhaps the unnamed Ravenclaw student for Flying?
@@5eleven696 That’s actually a good theory and makes sense, to help us catch up. So maybe the Ravenclaw companion is the flying professor as most people have been speculating it would be a professor for our 4th companion.
At about 2:20 there’s what looks like a sculpture of Godric’s head above the entrance. Other than that there doesn’t seem to be statues or portraits like you said. Guess he was the most humble of the four houses lol. Love your content btw!!
@@RetroRaconteur Also, this is random but I can’t remember which video you mentioned if there would be a Phoenix in the game. In one of the pictures on HL site, I think there’s a Phoenix flying above the cottage in the menagerie. Would be awesome to have one as a pet!
I used to be a Gryffindor, and roleplayed as a Gryffindor OC. Proud Hufflepuff now, so that's what I'll be on my first playthrough. But you're really making me miss my old Gryffindor days, and give me excitement for a potential future Gryffindor playthrough. I'm still sceptical about the multiple years, but that "Chudley Cannons 21" poster is sure something to think about. Which one you doing next - Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff? I'm excited for both of those upcoming videos :D
At about 0:32, it appears again about 1:13 - 1:14, what is flying above the doorway leading to the stairs? Is it a golden snitch? It looks like a small golden ball with wings to me.
I think it will be 1 school year, It could be 91 being the start of the school year, and the final match at the end of the school year, in 92, for the championship.
The small little box makes me think Mimic from Dungeons and Dragons for some reason. So, I would touch it if I were you. Last thing we need is the Mimic to take it's true form and attack us! Lol, nah great video. Keep up the good work.
I'm torn between choosing man, I'm a hufflepuff, but the ravenclaw commen room is at the tallest point of the castle it overlooks the castle grounds and quidditch area, plus it looks amazing, so I'm really am unsure.
I think the game will be in 1890 and will only be 1 school year. The 21 in the poster is probably a mistake. Though they could easily claim it is a poster referencing that one of their 20 championships was in 1821
I'm hoping for multiple years... To me it wouldn't make sense to have a story like this span over only one year. Then what? Hogwart's Legacy 2: Year 6 comes out with a whole new villain? Imo, it makes a lot more sense to end the game at the end of the 7th school year. And then it's like "So there's a month left of school, have fun collecting all the stuff and finishing all the quests" They COULD do it at the end of 1 year, but for world building purposes I think the villains will need time to recruit and grow, while the players do the same for their characters. What I'm more intrigued by, is how they'll do the summer vacations... Will our character stay in Hogsmead? Or the Leaking Cauldron? How's that going to work?
Lol. Is this a meme or something I don't know about? I've seen several comments like that on this video...but I don't feel like I've changed anything here than what I've done in the past. Could you let me know specifically what transitions you're talking about?
I personally think that the "21" is in reference to a date the CC are either going to visit Hogwarts/Hogsmeade or have a game that on that day. But like you said, I would love to be wrong and have multiple years confirmed!
Im ok being only 1 school year, especially if it opens up the possibility for sequels (following school years). I just wonder how the seasons will work, if they're gonna be story mode dependent then the only way for us to replay the open world on those seasons would be through game save files? So after beating the game the endgame will only take place on summer.
Ugh I can't decide which house I'll join when I play this game. I like them all! I think I might have to create two characters, they will be very different from each other. Their names will be Taron Trevelian and Noolah Cadash. Taron will be a Gryffindor for sure but still can't decide which house my female character Noolah will join... I'm leaning more towards Slytherin house but we'll see.
I don’t get why nobody is talking about the passageway at the end of the common room. You can see it on the right as the player heads towards to globe, and on the bottom left after coming up the stairs. Clearly the Gryffindor common room isn’t as small as it first appears.
the Latin phrase for me translates as "be of good courage". I never get the "strong". In Italian (I'm Italian), fortE means strong, yes. But Latin isn't Italian, so if you combined 2 languages to get your translation, I'm not sure you're correct. But I used Google Translate for the latin xD so i could be the one at fault
I wonder if the Sword of Godrick in the game and if so can we use it or better yet win it from the goblin seeing as it is a rebellion and goblins did make the sword🤔
We will see when it will play. That newspaper from 1890 could be an old one since in their was always conflict between goblins and wizards. It could also be the one from that day we don't know. That 21 could also be something to get your followers hyped because they aim for their 21st quidditch cup victory. I actually stopped to theorize about Hogwarts Legacy because it doesn't amount to much. It could actually kill the joy of the game for me because fans want to see every straw, even though it is that unlikely. Then you have people who said on the Hufflepuff video that Helga was holding the Horcrux and that Horcuxe are in the game 🤦♂ Yeah right because Voldemord is already around in 1890.... I read so much bullshit over the game that I would actually be glad to not get anything official till the end of the year. Well aside from the last two missing ASMR videos in Autum and Winter
@@RetroRaconteur Same. I think they're storing up to build an empire here. They are investing long term. And just like everyone, trying to do what marvel did and create a series.
Chudley Cannons 21 ... 1892 was the last time (21) they won, but do we know when they won #20? It is possible that the poster is noting that they will be going for their 21st win. It could also be possible that they didn't get their 21st win on the first try...? Oh... you just said that... lol! Smart minds.

As a Gryffindor I love my common room.
7:58 you can see the golden snitch top left from the ground view
Having seasons on the game is an indication to me, that it will play for more then a year
i guarantee those chests are players inventory storage system.
The chudly cannons won the last match in 1892 but it wasn't 21 times in a row they won so it could very well be that they are going for number 21 all the way back in 1890
Yep, I think this could be it!
I reckon they are deffo adding Quidditch but playing it down for a surprise. More than likely DlC surprise.
The Chudley Cannons poster is definitely not looking like a championship winning poster, so my theory is that the common room tour was recorded at the end of our school year (let's say june 1891), and the Chudley Cannons just started their practise before the new season begins (1891-1892) So yeah I agree with you :D
Actually the Latin phrase only means "be of a strong spirit/Soul" which would be translated simply into "be brave" :)
Yours says it more succinctly though 😆
Also...I'm not a Latin expert and am using Google and other translation sites to try and figure this out! Haha.
Their daring, nerve, and chivalry,
Set Gryffindors apart.
I've only recently found your channel and I LOVE these videos. Please can you do a play through like your other HP games when it's released! 😂
Thanks for the kind words, Dan! Glad you enjoy the channel. Definitely planning a lot of HL content once the game is out.
one of the trophies in the cabinet looked like a triwizard tournament trophy.
As much as I’d love the game to take place over more than one year, I agree that it’s not confirmed yet.
As far as the multiple school years go it doesn’t make sense for the seasonal tech to exist if you aren’t going to be playing multiple school years. From my perspective to get the full range of that tech the seasons must change multiple times. So I’m thinking 2 maybe 3 years of fun here.
wow i almost lost hope that you were gonna do the rest of the rooms
Ha! It takes a while to go through them all at this level of detail 😅
that’s fair enough keep up the good work👍🏽
I defenetly saw that chuddley canons as chasing 21. As in this year we win 21. Still make it a year later. Very interesting
@@RetroRaconteur
I am definitely going to check that out, but good catch.
Edit:
Yeah, that's absolutely the same character. So it's another teacher.
I think they’re also working on a super in depth quidditch game in tandem with this one, probably will be similar to NBA 2K or the baseball games
At about 2:20 there’s what looks like a sculpture of Godric’s head above the entrance. Other than that there doesn’t seem to be statues or portraits like you said. Guess he was the most humble of the four houses lol. Love your content btw!!
I alllllllmost commented about that head. It does kind of look like him! Appreciate the kind words, btw!
@@RetroRaconteur Also, this is random but I can’t remember which video you mentioned if there would be a Phoenix in the game. In one of the pictures on HL site, I think there’s a Phoenix flying above the cottage in the menagerie. Would be awesome to have one as a pet!
Yes so was I, even tho I’m a Ravenclaw. But, I’m glad scenery and Art Deco
Thanks, wario! Ravenclaw is up next.
Man, i love these breakdowns sooooooo much. 😍❤️
Thanks, Lee! Glad to hear it 😊
at 07:05, there's also a snitch flying around in the upper right corner. Nice detail!
Yes! I literally caught it when I had already exported my video 😄
At 3:06 is that the portrait of Sir Cadogan?
The small little box makes me think Mimic from Dungeons and Dragons for some reason. So, I would touch it if I were you. Last thing we need is the Mimic to take it's true form and attack us! Lol, nah great video. Keep up the good work.
I'm torn between choosing man, I'm a hufflepuff, but the ravenclaw commen room is at the tallest point of the castle it overlooks the castle grounds and quidditch area, plus it looks amazing, so I'm really am unsure.
The Ravenclaw common room is not at the highest point of the castle. The Astronomy Tower is the highest point in the castle.
@@DarthSanguine fair enough it's high though lol
It figures that the wizarding equivalent of the "jock" house is the one that emphasizes school pride over house affiliation.
And then it's like "So there's a month left of school, have fun collecting all the stuff and finishing all the quests"
They COULD do it at the end of 1 year, but for world building purposes I think the villains will need time to recruit and grow, while the players do the same for their characters.
What I'm more intrigued by, is how they'll do the summer vacations... Will our character stay in Hogsmead? Or the Leaking Cauldron? How's that going to work?
Great video man can't wait for the Hufflepuff common room video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Yeah, Rowena is very prominent in her House Common Room. And I thought Salazar was the vain one.
Shew. All those transitions got me 🥴😵
Lol. Is this a meme or something I don't know about? I've seen several comments like that on this video...but I don't feel like I've changed anything here than what I've done in the past. Could you let me know specifically what transitions you're talking about?
@@RetroRaconteur at the beginning there's transitions between objects that's are in the same picture
At 7:04 you can see the golden snitch in the top left corner
I personally think that the "21" is in reference to a date the CC are either going to visit Hogwarts/Hogsmeade or have a game that on that day. But like you said, I would love to be wrong and have multiple years confirmed!
This Gryffindor common room is more my style but sadly on the wisarding world I got raven claw
I think you missed when mc go near there is chests in left our alley girl from griffondor
Yeah, looks like it's very cozy, even being a Slytherin myself, I prefer worn climate and places though🤷🏽♂️
Why is gryffindor the only one with hogwarts banners featuring all four houses?
I don’t get why nobody is talking about the passageway at the end of the common room. You can see it on the right as the player heads towards to globe, and on the bottom left after coming up the stairs. Clearly the Gryffindor common room isn’t as small as it first appears.
As with slytherin common room too, just feel as if they don’t wanna show too much it would spoil the surprise element
Can't wait for Ravenclaw, can't wait to see the beautiful views, and I can't wait to (hopefully) beat some Ravenclaws on wizard chest
the Latin phrase for me translates as "be of good courage". I never get the "strong". In Italian (I'm Italian), fortE means strong, yes. But Latin isn't Italian, so if you combined 2 languages to get your translation, I'm not sure you're correct. But I used Google Translate for the latin xD so i could be the one at fault
Love it but I absolutely hate the entrance. I wish the portrait went inward or dematerialised
The character model in this trailer has a haircut that's way too modern. He looks like a kid from the 2010s-20s, not a kid from the 1890s.
I wonder if the Sword of Godrick in the game and if so can we use it or better yet win it from the goblin seeing as it is a rebellion and goblins did make the sword🤔
I think the game will be set in one year and its sequels be the next years. Similar to Mass Effect
Then you have people who said on the Hufflepuff video that Helga was holding the Horcrux and that Horcuxe are in the game 🤦♂
Yeah right because Voldemord is already around in 1890....
I read so much bullshit over the game that I would actually be glad to not get anything official till the end of the year.
Well aside from the last two missing ASMR videos in Autum and Winter
Yeah, I'm on the side that it's going to be just one year. I think the poster is chasing their 21, or just a continuity they tried to connect.
I will be blown away if it's more than 1 year!
@@RetroRaconteur Same. I think they're storing up to build an empire here. They are investing long term. And just like everyone, trying to do what marvel did and create a series.
You are a king my freind
Chudley Cannons 21 ... 1892 was the last time (21) they won, but do we know when they won #20? It is possible that the poster is noting that they will be going for their 21st win. It could also be possible that they didn't get their 21st win on the first try...?
Oh... you just said that... lol! Smart minds.
Also the way they talk about how you start the game. They state you start hogwarts as a 5th year not that you’re playing thru the game as a 5th yesr
🤔🤔🤔 Hmmm...
The Gryffindor common room is nice but I do prefer my houses common room Hufflepuff.
No shame in that! Hufflepuff has a wonderful common room too.
We better ride broomsticks
As a Slytherin, I prefer my common room. :P
I hope they later bring quidditch as a dlc. I'm dissapointed to not see it in the game.
They need to focus on story tbh adding it right now would just seem like too much to deal with
Finally a good video thats worth listening to 🤨
Glad you enjoyed! Confused with your comments on some other videos though 😄
4:00 How long did it take you to figure out it was Latin, not Italian...
Not too long, haha. If you search the words in google translate, the auto-detect actually shows Italian.
Why do all the common rooms have rooms for each year except Gryffindor who has 3 dorms... what's the deal with that? Is that on purpose?
