      I love this comment Dragon Bun. Helps me get a clear picture of how my lessons are different to other channels. I’ll keep going to town on ‘calm’ and ‘relaxed’ delivery. Thank you

    What a generous lesson! I’m used to teachers saying they’ve given me too much in one lesson, and that I’ll have to save some for next time, or dermatologists saying they’ve been too efficient in curing problems in one visit, so I’ll have to book another appointment.

    I can take in a lot of info, but with age my memory has declined. Your approach is very concise and the visual presentation is the best I have ever seen. Your download material is amazing. Makes it easier to commit to memory.
    Thank you very much.

    I'm confused. Why does your Gb7 chord have an Ab in it? Gb7 is Gb - Bb - Db - E. Even in your Tritone substitution video your Gb7 has just the 4 notes but here without explanation as far as i can see we get an Ab added at the top?? Can you explain where that comes from??

  • @Bar3948576

    Is a resolution usually when you play the chord thats a half step below your current one?

    • @leandroaraujo4201
      @leandroaraujo4201 3 роки тому +1

      You mean those chords that have "trit sub" below them at 4:28? If so then yeah, kind of. It's called a "tritone substitution", Julian has a video on that.

    So this is under the C minor scale or is it not part of a scale , I'm new to this

  • @BradyThomas
    @BradyThomas 4 роки тому +2

    Wouldn't that first chord be a Cm9, not a Cm7? Or am I missing something?
    Same with the second chord, wouldn't it be a Cmaj9?

    • @DrJoshGuitar
      @DrJoshGuitar 4 роки тому +1

      You are not missing anything, it technically is a m9 chord. Often 9ths aren't specified in chord charts, and also I think he means you can use that voicing any place you would use a m7 (although if the m7 is a iii chord, the 9th will add a note that is out of key (the #4), but that sounds nice for the kind of progressions moving in 3rds that he is talking about)..

  • @sbwyo1966
    @sbwyo1966 3 роки тому

    Question: when you say "rootless," you're saying it's a RH voicing? Because you're playing the root in LH. Is that just to demonstrate the tonality? I'm assuming because that's left to the bass ordinarily......

      Well spotted ! I recognised the progression immediately but didn’t remember what it was. It just goes to show what a good player Andy Connell was. His stuff with ACR was always jazz influenced and a bit more sophisticated than other groups in that genre. Thanks for bringing back some nice memories

    The only somewhat frustrating thing is you are playing the roots a lot. I realize you are probably trying to keep up on track of the progression, but we end not hearing the chords rootles, which I assume is what is ultimately intended by this lesson.

    your rootless voicing position B feels very similar to Herbie Hancock voicing. Isn’t it ?

    • @jazztutorial
      @jazztutorial  4 роки тому +1

      Most pro jazz pianists use these rootless voicings a lot. I would expect Herbie Hancock uses them

    • @SugarTouch
      @SugarTouch 4 роки тому

      @@jazztutorial Sorry! My mistake. Very similar UA-cam channel PianoGroove does very similar tutorials including voicing. They associate some most common patters with names :) Like “Herbie Voicing” and “Kenny Barron voicing”. Because these masters got their personal “look and feel” of it. I thought it was your own tutorial when you already shared this particular form :)
      Thank you very much for your astonishing videos. Please don’t stop ! We need more of you !!!! :)

  • @Music-uk5dm

    Why do you keep calling ninth chord "seventh chord"?

    • @dathyr1
      @dathyr1 4 роки тому +1

      Because Julian takes the the minor third from the main Root chord note and builds a major 7th from that minor 3rd. Yes the one note is the ninth degree of the main root chord, But when Julian builds the rootless chord minus the main root note, the rootless chord turns out to be major 7th chords starting with the new note being minor 3rd note.

    Who wants to just sound sophisticated? I'd rather actually be sophisticated with my playing rather than making people think I am. Trying to impress is a weird attitude in music, imo.
