I don't think everyone knows the background behind this: the grandmother was living with her daughter, her daughters husband and her granddaughter . She called the police on her 6 year old granddaughter because she wouldn't give her phone back and insisted the mother knew where her phone was . Her grandaughter was terrified of her and now is also scared of police . Also, the husband claimed she makes up situations and plays the victim to make people feel bad for her .I'm not siding with anyone , but it seems like lots of people dont know what's going on.

Just because you're related by blood doesn't make you a real family. you don't know what the mother did to make her want to distance her like this. Yet she allowed her to live at her house anyway, even tho she wasn't respecting her house rules. But calling cops on a kid was too much I guess. She's not obligated to care for her mother, especially if she didn't do the same for her.

I love my mother to death. I would have never did my mom the way she does hers. Paying bills and babysitting. I get the babysitting from time to time. I wouldn't make my mom pay rent though. Especially since I never did as a child. Her daughter needs to keep her house clean. The daughter has deep rooted issues with her mother to be calling her by her first name.

Nope. As I stated to someone else: if an adult can contribute to the maintenance of the house, then they should. They are a young couple paying for the rearing of 4 kids; they don't look rich. $650 seems reasonable for a share in the utilities and food. She was asked to help with the housework, not do it all. She was paying rent before, just couldn't manage the increase. Where I live renting a single room with an ensuite would start around $1000 and go up.

I'm very sorry for your loss. Your situation is yours. My mother was not only toxic towards me, but so bad that she was the main subject on my son's bullying project at school. While I do believe you miss your mother deeply, in my case... I don't, my children don't...and our family has been more at peace and happier without her presence.
We do only get one mother, on the flip side, our mothers may only have one child or several and it's up to her to treat them as such too. Because she managed to push me out of her vagina does not mean I spend the rest of my life being part if her toxic environment.

Hilary C Pulling one’s own weight is a given, but it sounds like her daughter was expecting a live in nanny/cleaner who also pays rent. A roommate cleans up after themselves and has no obligation beyond that. Their youth and choice to have 4 kids is no fault but their own, and it sounds like they had a spare bedroom with attached bathroom that was previously not used for income, so to charge $650 is ridiculous.
Also, if you’re paying $1,000 to live in a room in someone’s house, you need to think about your choices, because that is absolutely absurd.

true, i remember when I was a kid and my mother took care of her older sister and then of lot of oldest relatives. When people get older sometimes their tempers also get worse and I remember my mum was sometimes very tired, but i cannot imagine myself as a kid and my sisters not asking mum to bring back our old relatives back home if we knew they were homeless or alone.

The thing is the grandma should have owned up to it rather than lie and deflect. She also appeared to do it out of spite, rather than out of sincere care for the children.
