I noticed when indicating you had to stop it after you set of is that a standard or a fault as mine does the same

it’s a fault. There’s a small plastic cam/peg behind the wheel on the back of the indicator stalk (you can see it with the wheel off and you move the stalk) this should catch onto the piece of plastic that sticks out on the back of the wheel / airbag clockspring.
Over time the plastic wears down so it doesn’t push hard enough to flip the indicator switch off. You can test it by flicking indicators on and flicking it with a screwdriver- the fix is new stalks.

@@KylesCarsYT thanks for sharing the knowledge my man, i have this exact issue, i bought a new stalk assembly for my escort. do you know how i would change it? would i follow the steps in the video? or does the indicator stalk assembly get fitted in another way?
gonna be honest bro theres nothing online anywhere about changing indicator stalks for mk6 escort. you could do the community a massive help making a little video on it, i would be very grateful as im rather lost i must say.
      thanks all the best :)

@@blackdog6345 not entirely sure how the stalks come out, the plastics around the wheel will defintely have to come off and possibly the wheel too.
I’ll look into it and make a video in the future 👍

@@KylesCarsYT just did this on my mk6, there are 2 torx screws on the top of the plastic assembly that coveres the steering column, and there are 4 more torx screws on the underside plastic,
      -
once the plastic is off there is one crosshead screw on the top of the exposed indicator stalk essembly, with a short stubby screwdriver you unscrew this and then unplug the 2 wiring harness' going into the back of the indicator stalk assembly, its then ready to slide right out (no removing the steering wheel nessecery)
      -
you can then plug in your new indicator stalk assembly (get them on ebay for 35 quid) and dont forget to take the large black fuse box plugged into the indicator stalk when you swap over.
      -
(also worth noting that the 4 screws on the bottom of the plastic are normal bolts, and the 2 on the top are self threading. you will see what i mean when you get in there)
      -
And yes it fixes the indicator auto-cancelling.
      Goodluck with it mate :)
