- After recently purchasing my Escort Mexico I caught the MK6 bug and ended up buying this beautiful low mileage RS2000 4X4, one of only 37 remaining cars in the UK. I plan to use this car as a modern retro daily to sit alongside my Escort Cosworth.

Used to love the RS 2000 4X4 myself. My mate had one in dark blue, with the oil-pattern RECARO seats. He basically said it was a Cozzie without the turbo. Rapid and handled well...the engine purred, white dials, the seats were one of the best looking and comfiest i'd ever sat in...Mint!....

I had an red escort Coupe 1.6 16v with sunroof as a first car. It was most enjoyable car I ever driven. Hopefully one day I will be able to get rs2000 as well must be blast 🔥😍
My old man has one sat in his garage 4x4 version, its done 4,000 miles since new

I had a red 2wd 1996 one,what let them down was the 15" wheels it needed 18's and the front bumper it looked like a standard escort from the front and the steering wheel should have been RS style not a standard looking one.other than that I loved mine

Mk6 is much better
The MK6 was a better car overall but the MK5 with the bonnet bulge, the twin headlamps, the diamond cut wheels,etc was better looking. Basically the MK6 from the front is the same as a 1.3 L with fitted fog lights
I used to own that RS2000 and regretted selling it.
That is way too nice to use daily. I would love one like that. Looking forward to more vids on it too.

That's a lovely 1! I had a Mk6 dark aubergine 2wd 1 a few years ago although don't drive anywhere near as good as the focus that replaced these
Love it! I'm a bit envious. I live in the U.S. and we never saw the fun versions of the Escort; except for the ZX2 S/R, in 1999. I'm coming to UK next week. When I'm not working, I will be doing some Carspotting

Hi Jamie .I find with the Mk 6 not the most instinctive love at first sight, but I do find it strange how I grow to like it the more I look .
I used to own a Mk 6 GTI with very similar trim level .For me its not the most desirable front end , out of the later Rs2000 shapes I prefer the MK5a . Very surprised on the condition I think you've been very lucky .Nice car!

I had one of these in red. '96 N registered. They have great road holding quality but, woefully underpowered. 0-60 in 8.8 seconds! Good looking car & nice Recaro seats but, you expect it to be quicker having the RS basge. Very rare cars!
This is one of the best RS cars available for not much money . Why they have all been missed I don’t know why . It’s a future classic that will rise in price . Beautiful

This car is really great, in perfect condition and very nearly original, these era RS2000 are a great way to own a classic and be a member of the RS owners club without paying out too much at the moment &
they’ll only ever go up in value specially this one being a 4x4 one day I expect you’ll see it going steeply up in value as well,
I suppose the only downside really to this one is no air con speaking as someone who suffers bad allergies in spring and summer I used to have a 1.8 SI version on an S plate & that was when I discovered driving with air con on and re-circ as well stops me sneezing 🤧

The mk6 escorts were the upgrade to the other escorts and I totally love this rs 2000 4x4 model top of range but like all ford's they rott away then it's gone. Just glad this previous owner looked after this one as there are quite rare these days so lucky you jammie am jealous haha great car tho 👌👍
Hi Jamie! very nice car! I picked one up about a month ago now, don't look nothing like yours though. its in need of restoration! I am enjoying working on it right now but I cant weld so that parts going cost me a penny or two! giving what I paid for the car I cant complain :) was going to get a lot of help with it from my dad who worked on cars for years but due to a recent stroke it looks like I will have to struggle with it on my own the best I can for now :( I have always loved the MK6 escort, fell in love with it when I was 14 many years ago and said that's the car I will have one day! until she is all fixed up and looking nice again I can still enjoy my current daily drive, Mk6 1800 SI cabriolet!
I had a 2wd one of these years ago. Was sick of it after about 6 months seemed slow a shit. Still a nice car for collection tho and daily driver
I owned a Mrk5 RS2000 in pacifica blue K51VRU bonnet bulge model, I loved it for what it was after owning a 4x4 Sapphire Cosworth stage 3 tuned i thought it would be crap but tbh it was hassle free cheap motoring and i wish i hadnt sold the car. I bought mine of a fellow cossie owner but it had mondeo 5 spoke wheels, crappy aftermarket steering wheel and gear knob etc so sourced the parts and returned to stock how it left Ford was much smarter :)
I had an ordinary Mk6 1.6 LX.. which I had as a family car in 2001 (still had my Escort RS Turbo then too).. anyway, I’d only had it a couple of weeks when I tried to gently close the bonnet by pressing with my hand, as opposed to dropping it a few inches to close.. and dented the bonnet directly above the Ford badge.. doh! Great looking car, almost the forgotten RS..
Owned a one of these in red back in the day traded my Escort RS turbo in for one, sold it with 120k on the clock, had to have the rear axle rebuilt around about 100k cost a fortune if I remember to get done but could not get the parts, same with springs couldn't get them from Ford, enjoyed owning the car the engine never really gave any trouble apart from a misfire that we traced to the wiring underneath the red engine cover breaking down with the heat, not really a quick car but a good handling car, fitted a Magnex exhaust to mine still have the sticker somewhere, memories.

I’ve had a soft spot for these since my friend had a white one but unfortunately he had a meeting with a telegraph pole and that was the end of it😞..real shame as he had it pristine and daily drove it. Looking for to future content of it🤗

I used to have a mk5 rs2000 on a K reg in moondust silver, I think I paid £3000 for her in 2001. Never been a lover of them to be honest, underpowered and a bit bland looking, but it’s really nice to see them about nowadays, nostalgia 👍

I owned one in silver . Front wheel drive. I drove it for 12years and loved it . I did 70.000 miles in it . It was fast for its time . People underestimated it . Thought it was just an escort . I slick 50d it at 60.000,miles. The head gasket went at 120.000,miles. When the mechanic took the head off he couldn't believe how good the borres were , not a mark, and I had thrashed it . So there's a tried and tested bit of advice for you . Slick50 it
Classic Fords are good daily drivers because for the simple fact is the parts are always readily available and it makes it very practical okay there’s hundreds of classic cars some very exotic some very fast the difference is you
try and use it as a daily driver it becomes almost impossible because of the car parts become unobtainable I’ve had

I’ve owned a rs2000 4x4 for 20 years now and l love it like no Other car I’ve owned or driven and I’ve driven hundreds of different types of cars Most cars especially today’s cars have no soul the rs2000 4x4 a Proper four-wheel-drive car 60/40 slit not a Modern day compromise

If you have not driven the RS 2000 4x4 totally different to the two wheel drive escort so planted okay a little underpowered I loved this car
There was about 500 or 600 made about 300 of them actually went to motorsport f2 British rally Champion 96 and 97 these cars are loved in our memories that’s why when they get old they only go up in value remind us of the good times when cars were cars not plastic rubbish day today commuting machines

It's a much better prospect than the Mk6 'Mexico' (oooft) but it's a bit trades descriptions to call it a genuine RS. The 90's were not Ford's high water mark when it comes to performance cars.

I can remember a lot of excitement when these were announced, and even more disappointment when they released:(
I dont think the transfer case in this car is similar to the one in the sierra 4x4. The engine position is different and the case is different so they are not compatible. The transfer case for this car i think is very difficult to find and very expensive. its a part to care much about. Here in Spain is nearly impossible to find.
You can mount engine head of scorpio 2.0 16v to increase compression and power in this RS2000.
Not sure if it was borrowed from the mondeo si 4x4 of the time, owned one a long time ago.
I’ve seen one with the running gear from an evo adapted to fit which uses the same layout, but you’d be better just using the evo engine aswell...coming to think about it you’d be better just buying an evo pmsl

The rear diffs in these rs2000 4x4 are known for being chocolate.

Just change the fluid on a regular basis and avoid clutch dumps, and you’ll be okay.

Never been a fan of these, underpowered and look no different to the LX. My mum had an LX with the same body kit and rear spoiler.
Seat position is too high and just wasn't worthy of the RS badge at all.
I don't like Mk5/6 Escorts only the Cosworth is worth buying and that's really a Sierra underneath anyway. Lol
I had a mk4 in L badge and XR3i they were much better little go karts, this thing wafts round with crap suspension in a jelly mould shape, 0-60 in a couple of months.

I'd love an Escort Cosworth, I had the Vauxhall version for over 11 years, a Calibra Turbo 4x4. It had a Cosworth head but no badge on the back, so little spoilt brats made death trap Nova's with the C20LET engines, as imy sure you're aware.
When I sold it in 2015 it was one of 108 still on the road.👍
