Apologies for the clickbait title, but it's true! The ocarina is one of the easiest instruments to learn, and I guarantee you can learn the basics with one hour of well-guided practice. Get used to the fingerings, the breath pressure, and reading tabs, and you'll have a great start - no matter HOW bad you think you are with music.

* I have the Japan-exclusive HDR CX680, but the only difference from the CX675 is extra internal storage
** I have the older model, the HD60 (not the HD60s). The new model is better, and the old one costs way more, since it's no longer made.
True story. I bought the Night by Noble, and within two weeks had the pokemon pallet town theme mastered, in tune. Average practice time was 10 to 20 minutes a day, 30 to 45 on Saturday and Sunday.
hi, its been 2 years but was wondering what you were specifically practicing in the time frame during your average practice time. Were you just praciting songs? or doing exercises
"Did I really just yeet my Ocarina"
Should of done a ceramic one for the bit. jkjkjk, great video though!
Maybe next time, I'll buy an ocarina of crap and YEET it as an instructional video on what NOT to buy (but not in my room lmao, that'd make a mess)
@@AndyCormierYT You read my mind 😍
Remember to YEET the like button like I YEETED my ocarina ❤
I have a question! Are you being sponsered by the company you got the ocarina from?
My fist ocarina is arriving at 10pm today and I can assure you that I will not be sleeping.
This is such a great video! I love the Night by Noble because it's SUPER cheap which makes it one of the cheaper entry points while not sacrificing sound quality
Right? Whenever I've traveled (where music wasn't the main purpose), it was the only ocarina I carried with me. AMAZING sound and super durable. There are a lot of great plastics, but I recommend the Night by Noble simply because if something goes wrong, you can't blame the instrument haha
@@AndyCormierYT Any ceramic alternatives you'd recommend? Nod so keen to buy plastic, even as my first instrument. Thanks for the video, btw 🙂
@@jmesy Songbird's black rose alto C is one of the best quality-for-price ocarinas I own! It's a bit high on breath pressure, but it's a reasonable price for one of my favorite 12-holes

@@AndyCormierYT Love this - you don't know of any similar styles without the rose design? Looking for something very simple.
Man, I love your videos, they're so informative and very well edited. Keep up the great work!
I purchased this ocarina after watching this video. It arrived this afternoon and I’m having a blast with it! I had never heard of the ocarina before. I’ve watched all your videos- have learned a lot! Thanks Andy.
I just got one today lol. The legend of Zelda ocarina of time definitely made them a recognizable instrument.
@@grayghost832 I hope you enjoy it!
@@AlanVukas Thanks. You also! Got some practicing to do.
Dude, your videos are high-quality stuff. I couldnt believe you are under 1000 subs...i hope you will become more famous. You deserve it. 😀
Thank you! We're almost there :)
There is a pdf version for David's book on his storepage. That's how i got it and printed it.
"YOU BETTER YEET YOUR OCARINA AGAIN!" lol
Loved watching you toss your ocarina across your bedroom. That was hilarious.
I bought my first ocarina a week ago and I’m waiting for it to come in the mail I’m super excited. One song I want to learn is Gracias By sojiro, but there are no ocarina tabs I was able to find
Hello. Thanks for the video. 😀I just ordered one “Night By Noble” . Can’t wait to
Receive it. Could you recommend a case for it? I want to have a case to
Protect it ! Thanks. 😀
Looks good! lol when you threw it behind you XD
Did it bc I knew it wouldn't break. I was more worried about accidentally damaging my wall :)))
@@AndyCormierYT haha, good one.
Oh man you are going to have fights with the penny whistle crowd. You really can't go wrong with any mostly diatonic wind instrument. Maybe I'll pick one up. Thanks for the video.
sorry about my question, just curiosity. Do you use some sort of lip gloss or lip tint?
No, I just have naturally very red lips lol. I've been asked that since ELEMENTARY school lol
Oh what’s the song at the end called? We’ve just been having our first play ever with the ocarina, thank you for the advice on which to buy first! It’s amazing! Loving it!
"Careless Whisper" by George Michael :)
You're doing a pretty good job introducing it!
Thanks! The goal is to reach out to non-musicians and people who don't necessarily know about the ocarina to show how easy it is to get started
What type of ocarina was used in tapion theme?
I believe it's supposed to be a 12-hole Alto C :)
@@AndyCormierYT is there any difference between stl, Spencer, songbird and the alto c? Which one would you prefer?do that it would sound like the original's!
I ordered this ocarina but the notes sound off key? Especially the high notes. I’ve been trying to adjust my mouth but it still sounds shit. Any ideas or do you think this model is bad I got the Korean one. It doesn’t sound like yours or is that just my inexperience? I have only been playing it for a couple hours.
My only issue w/ the Night by Noble is the lower breath pressure. On the highest notes, use less air and they should be clearer!
Korean one should be okay, I'm just starting too. Found out it's not the mouth usually, it's just how much pressure to apply the fingers, to seal off the holes. I hate those darn extra holes, that's a new invention. When I was a kid ocarinas only had 8 or 10 holes.
@@gearmachine_4885 that's what she said
Oh no! Did I get a dud, or am I just not built to play an ocarina??? I am getting older, but I recently got a Kalimba and do pretty well with that. Then the woodwind player in me from my childhood became enamored with an alto recorder, so I spent $20 on one in plastic from Yamaha. I'm learning to play that pretty easily despite a great difficulty reaching the pinky holes, so... Is this normal for anyone else to have such trouble trying to even get a good tone on this thing with all fingers down? I am finding it near impossible after trying to noodle around on it for several days now. Any advice would be appreciated ‼️
Hi...I never had any luck with recorder flutes, they always sounded screechy to me. Ocarinas have more of a hooty type sound. The first thing I ever heard on one, was the solo from Wild Thing, by the Troggs. That's an ocarina he is playing! I think note accuracy will drive us nuts, best to hit it close enough and be on with it.
You look like nicocado avocado when he still was a vegam
Ouch that was probably a harsh blow…
Ah yes *Just Yeet Ocarina*
Bought your digi album off Bandcamp
Please don't throw your instruments, kids.
Yes that was cringeworthy. If my mom saw me do that she would beat me for breaking my toys.
Yea but learning to make one is far far harder. ALso talent being a factor is a major factor. Being Tone Deaf is a sign you don't have the talent. I'm one of these people...
