    Congrats, that buck’s got ur name on him. I’ve never seen a mature buck that saw/heard me draw then runs 20-30 yrds then stop to look back at me just waiting for me to shoot it 😂…but then again private land bucks are different than public land bucks

    November 16th I shot a super nice old 6 point with my bow. Sitting on the ground inside of a bush on a very heavily used trail. He came in 25-30 yards. And I shot right underneath of him. He jumped a bit. But didn’t run off. He let me rack another arrow. And he came down to yards from me. Perfect broadside and gave me the most perfect shot I ever taken. Watched him walk about 10 yards and crash. Such an awesome looking deer. Great hunt. Great video. 🤟

    I applaud your harvest and the fact you film. But I’d be damned if I’m going to let that big boy stand broad side to me after he busted me, just so I can put the camera back on him to continue filming. I have never been that blessed while bow hunting the past 36yrs to have that kind of luck. Great shot and buck!

      Thanks for watching! I’ve actually seen several times now both in the Midwest and the Northeast, when you have an older deer (5 y/o+) in that under 10 yards type of range, when they sense something isn’t right they will tend to slow things down and assess vs. just totally peeling out. And if you recognize that they have picked up on you, you usually have a little bit of time as long as you’re decisive in trying to get that shot off clean. If you watch my buck from last year and the buck I killed on the show in 2017, it was an almost identical scenario where they were really close and realized something was wrong and started to think about getting out of there, but they paused to assess which presented me with a shot opp. Lots of people freeze up in that scenario and it’s actually the best time in my experience to be decisive and attempt to get a shot. Hope this helps!

    I am not super aggressive with rattling for 2 reasons. One, the deer almost always come in downwind and two, a lot of your big bucks may be passive bucks and not fighters and you can spook alot of big bucks that way

    • @timbow50
      @timbow50 Рік тому +1

      I actually watched a really good 10 pointer probably 4 1/2 at least turn and go away as I rattled. I know he heard it for sure. One of those that probably got a good whipping at a younger age?

    • @craigwagner327
      @craigwagner327 Рік тому +2

      @@timbow50 more in likely. I think alot of times also the effectiveness of rattling depends on if your in a high pressure state or not. I am in ohio which gets alot of pressure so I have experiences like you did with that 10 pointer. Also I rarely will use a grunt snort wheeze cause I have similar outcomes with that

    • @timbow50
      @timbow50 Рік тому

      @@craigwagner327 I ve tried the snort/ wheeze very little. Because of terrain and mesquite I can see fairly well out like 300 yards and catch animals moving. I use the rattling if I see some antlers moving through or away from my position hoping to get their attention lol. It’s worked several times over the years. I’ve killed two really great bucks rattling.

    • @timbow50
      @timbow50 Рік тому

      @@craigwagner327 luckily I’m not in any way in a high pressure area. During archery season there are literally like 3 guys on our place and generally 2 on a farm a mile away. Some of these neighboring ranches are like 15-20 thousand acres. I know there’s no bow hunters and very limited gun hunter later. Out here deer travel daily for 2-3 miles one way from cover/river basin to alfalfa, maize, peanuts etc. It’s not like wood land deer.

    • @craigwagner327
      @craigwagner327 Рік тому +2

      @@timbow50 sounds like a nice set up. In my woods I have people just off my property line hunting. I've watched numerous videos of deer taken in states like Iowa and other surrounding states.
    I hunt on WMAs in Ga.
    The woodland here looks like a overgrown briar patch with dense undergrowth and minimal visibility.
    The deer here seldom walk or expose themselves in the timberland so open and pretty.
    It's said here that when you find that pretty spot in the woods ...... back off and setup in the thick on the outside of the beautiful oak bottom or transition to pine on the hill.
    The deer here don't lollygag around licking their lips and rubbing and scraping bed down in front of your stand.
    And surely don't stop and look back when spooked.
    He will bust the woods down all the way to the next county The deer are huge in the Iowa state region
    And a deer taken here of such majesty and dominance would give us something to be proud of and others to gawk at.
    If one can shoot a $1200 Matthews bow accurately...the deer there are already walking dead. Never do deer behave like these do. They are wary.skittish.nocturnal.and will smell you even if they are upwind.
    So I can't be impressed with the deer taken in these videos
    If you come to my woods and manage to take a mature buck. ..you have bragging rights.
    The deer there almost look like pets

While buck is looking at him hunter readjusts camera draws bow and shoots buck without spooking it away. This isn’t hunting reality.
