I even challenged the energetic neighborhood kids that if they figured out the code I'd buy them a fidget spinner. Sitting here now, I've been spinning each row of letters in sequence thinking that I would finally figure it out once a for all! It grew tiresome fast, which led me to wondering if there was a free program to finding all the possible word combos (and thank goodness they are words and not random letter/number combos). Google search took me to this video instead and then it took me more time to watch the video than it did to open the lock! Yay!!! Based on where I was in my sequential spinning and what the word turned out to be, I would've been at it at least another 20-30 minutes *assuming* I didn't give up again, which I probably would have done. Thank you so much for this video! Ha, now I'm just mildly worried because that was too easy.

Just found a word lock from 10 years ago and cracked the word using your method. I also found working on the outside diles first and then the inside worked pretty easy too. Cool video!

Try playing with the tension you apply on the lock. All the turns should have resistance but there should be one that really sticks out. It is for all the dials or just the first?
clashwithcash 14 Maybe try the reverse direction on the dials, starting from the end? Or you could work through all the digits on the last dial, pretending that was the first letter, and doing the rest like the video.

I can see these go easier to crack than the new preset-code ones. However, this method DOES work on the preset ones, but it requires a lot of finesse. These have a very precise shaft diameter with very precises slots. The wheels have no axial play, and the slots have a slight bevel. Even with the correct combination, the shaft will not slide out if there is any side pressure. I experimented and found I needed to use my fingers and provide slight to medium tension to acquire a usable feel. Another thing I learned is that I had to play around with different wheels to find one that seemed to have the most feel, then I felt around for the next one. It's not easy though. I found the best way to feel it out was not necessarily by gong in the order of the wheels. Even after I discovered the combination, after I scrambled it and turned the lock over so I couldn't see the index, the order of the wheels I used was different the next time and it was no easier. It actually took me more time the second and third attempt than the first. IME after you actually discover two, there is markedly more feel when discovering the third, which provides the assurance that you actually have discovered the first two.
This is helpful to watch. My lock is connecting my bike to the building stairwell. Because of that, I won't be able to get the resistance you can get with your foot. Ideas?
Depending on how you wrapped the bike with it, if you can move your bike away fom the rail if there's slack and pushing it away to get tension. If you coiled it, you could try and put tension on it with one hand and turn the dial with the other. You don't need crazy amounts of tension, but enough to pull the key out of alignment with the cylinder.
Gave her and she worked! Gotta go with your gut while doing it which I did. Had zero memory of the original word we picked (book). Now it's our sons name

Was cleaning out my shed today and found my word lock from like 12 years ago. This method worked great except I found the code all by sound and feel i never did the go back 3 times counterclockwise part for the first letter.

I can't get this to work, but my lock is very old, and the dials are all hard to move. There are three spots on the first dial that stick like in your tutorial.
couldn't open it with SHED...watched your video and come to find out it was SHEL. the far right tumbler didn't do such a loud clock so what i did with the tension on was the other three unroll the wouldn't move and just spun the far right till it opened.
I've spent two hours on mine. I don't think you cam even change it~ idk. my family is really chitty and may have changed it on me. they were using my bike (I had it around my tire so they wouldn't) 2 years later, I can't seem to get it off.
