how did you recover the old freon in the system before vacuum it..the vacuum itself does not recover...the pag oil, how was it injected in the lines??the vacuum does not push fluids...
I usually pressurize the system first if there has been a leak and then pull a vacuum as-well. But this was only a compressor failure so I only pulled a vacuum.
