*For anyone considering Dyson's new cordless vacuum cleaner, the Dyson v12 Detect Slim, see my video review here:* ua-cam.com/video/KljsOBeHeaY/v-deo.html
I gotta say that Dyson's packaging of their vacuums is fantastic. Basically no wasted space and the boxes are double walled and then placed in a second box that provides more protection against punctures.
If you have an older Dyson like a V8 or V10 and you really wanted the laser head, anti tangle tool, and light pipe, then you can buy them separately and they will fit and work.
Hey Qasim Mir, thanks for the comment and great advice! I don’t own either the V10 or V8 but as you rightly say I believe the attachments from the V15 will work fine on them!
thank you for noting that laser head light isn't good during daylight. I've decided to go with V11. just gonna have to find a small LED light I can glue to the head.
Hi namwarrn, thanks for the comment and I completely agree 🙂! Thankfully, the new Dyson v12 has a power button, which for me is one of it's big improvements. If you're interested, I've posted a review about it here: ua-cam.com/video/KljsOBeHeaY/v-deo.html
Using an automotive analogy, comparing the V11 to the V15 is akin to comparing a Challenger Scat Pack to a Hellcat. While the latter has a significant increase in specifications compared to the former, the real-world performance gains for the cost difference are, at best, negligible and not worth the price of admission. I bought my wife a V11 Torque Drive a few years ago, and that thing could very well suck a baseball through a garden hose. Moreover, it has so much suction on carpeted areas in the auto mode with the gates half open that it has found shoddy installation because it has caused the carpet to washboard in some areas. It's my opinion that it's not worth paying nearly $800.00 to upgrade from the still perfectly good V11, which is still for sale and is now available with a removable click battery on home shopping channels for almost $300.00 less, and offering 97% of the V15's overall performance. That is unless someone has to have the gimmicky and useless particle counter. However, We are open to upgrading to the fluffy laser head. But, again, that's a whole lot less than buying a new vacuum.
Hi Lefty, thanks for the comment and I completely agree. The V11 is a fantastic vacuum cleaner and is certainly worth considering if you can pick it up cheaper than the v15.
I completely agree. Thankfully Dyson addressed this with the Dyson v12, but with its smaller bin it's better suited to smaller homes. I acknowledge the improvement in my review for the v12 here: ua-cam.com/video/KljsOBeHeaY/v-deo.html
Hi Lizard, thanks for the comment! The particle detection system built into both the v15 and v12 vacuum cleaners is certainly a clever piece of technology (I talk about it a little more in my Dyson v12 video), and I can certainly see used case scenarios where it would be useful. So it’s fantastic if you are finding it useful and making the most from it!
@@james_newall thanks for the reply. Yes, it's good to know just how bad a rug is vs the floors. It's really amazing. In europe the vacuums are terrible for carpet. The brush heads are driven by the air suction rather than a dc motor like most vacuums in the US. Completely ruined my carpets. Now I got the dyson and with a bit of extra work the carpets are coming back to life, but with everything coming out I'm considering just replacing them.
Hi Gloria, it depends which model you have, if its the V11 Absolute then it should come with a soft fluffy cleaner head, link here for the models: ua-cam.com/video/-OpISI20oSU/v-deo.html if it is the Absolute and you bought it from somewhere like Dyson or another reputable retailer then they should provide you with one. Otherwise it will be a case of needing to purchase one. Of the two cleaner heads I've found both to be excellent for their respective jobs (i.e. the soft fluffy cleaner head is fantastic on hard floors).
Which of these two Dysons are you interested in? If you are considering buying one, or have bought one then watch my Dyson Floor Dok review for the Dyson V15 Detect and Dyson v11 here: ua-cam.com/video/SgMrH4I9CFQ/v-deo.html
Hey Patrick, haha well done! I wasn't sure anyone would notice😄! I've recently reviewed the new Dyson v12 Detect Slim where I've done something similar ua-cam.com/video/KljsOBeHeaY/v-deo.html
Thanks for the video! I think I am going to go for the v11, however on the dyson website the v11 comes blue and not gold like in your video. Is it still the same one?
Don’t buy the V11. They have been discontinued and it’s becoming increasingly difficult to find spare parts for it. Spend a bit more and go for the V12 or V15. My V11 recently broke after just a couple of months after the 2 year warranty expired and Dyson wanted to charge me £89 to replace the main body. I paid £600 just over 2 years ago and i refused to pay even more money for a vacuum that is only just over 2 years old.
Good vid. I’m undecided. To spend or not to spend. If I really want one then I have no choice of course , I think it’d be the V11 for me, but oh the price!!! Thank you for sharing this vid, you have done your homework that’s for sure, so that I don’t have to. I appreciate that.
Hi Jimbojet, you're very welcome and thank you for your kind words. We don't regret buying the V11 as it does a fantastic job, but as you say neither vacuum cleaner is cheap. Depending on where in the world you are, Black Friday is usually a good time to look at picking one up. 🙂👍
For what it is worth, we have had a V8 for years and have used it constantly for our wood floors. We bit the bullet and shelled out the money for a V15 detect. I was skeptical of the laser light, but it was a game changer. Our hardwood floors are much cleaner, now that one can see the the dust and tiny particles that evade the human eye. I am not convinced that any Dyson product is worth the price one must pay. But, I must admit that the laser light is a great enhancement for such a cleaning product.
I think I have an answer for why the vacuums are not designed to be free standing: It's so people don't knock them over and break them. Then redeem a warranty claim.
Hi Chinz, its a good question and not one I have been asked before. I guess it depends on the definition of washable. The fabric roller in the soft roller cleaning head isn't designed to easily come out of its casing, but you could [easily] wipe the fabric of the roller with a damp cloth.

That's a good point. I was impressed with the packaging too, and trying to repack one is like a puzzle.

hahaha let me know if it works and I'll glue one onto mine too 😄! You're welcome and thanks for the message Vital 😁
totally agree on improvements that u point out. i always hurt my hand if hold it incorrectly.

Could not agree more regarding the annoying trigger. For the money one must pay for a Dyson, is it too much to ask for a simple sliding on/off switch?

What I really want to know is how useful is that laser. I appreciated your opinion on that. Good video otherwise, that was the standout for me though
Hi Matt, thanks for the great comment it's appreciated! I mention it again in my review for the Dyson v12 here ua-cam.com/video/KljsOBeHeaY/v-deo.html
Everyone says they don't use the partial counter... One month in I'm still using it consistently.

Excellent review. Thanks it helped a lot. v11 for me.
Hi Steve, thank you for the comment and kind words it's very much appreciated! The V11 is a fantastic machine and loses little to the V15. 🙂
Thanks for the info.
Also thank you for the laugh:

Hey Un Identified thanks for the kind comment! 🙂👍
How is it with short dog hair?
Hi Lesigh! I don't own a dog but generally speaking we haven't had any problems vacuuming almost anything.
excellent review

Hey Hoick, thanks for the comment. It sounds a plausible enough reason and that might be why.
And for the same reason, they make the tools a different size, on more modern units. So you have to buy new ones!
Great review!
Thanks Gutter, it’s appreciated!
I love both models
🙂 me too! In terms of cleaning there is very little between them and I would be very happy with the V11.
