I was 15yrs old and learning how to water ski, my uncle had a house on the lake with all the toys. I just did a run and a bunch of my cousins grabbed the tow line, dragging along. My cousin hit the throttle, the torque turned the outboard and she (and the spotter) fell in the boat. The boat is out of control, throttle is wide open and it's headed right for me.
Long story long, Dr stopped counting after 100 and asked me, "you got religion?"
I told him no and he replied, get it !

I stopped skiing because it was no longer safe to be in the water with idiots in speed boats about. The most basic rule is no motors where swimmers are in the water.....but owning a boat does not make you competent to drive it. His insurance is going to get a huge lawsuit (or 2), from this. I hope he learns from this. We knew someone who had a friend killed in a boating accident where he was piloting his own boat, and the friend got killed. Our friend never went to jail, nothing. (He was the son of a friend of ours, for context, so I don't know the entire story). But I know very serious drinking was going on, on that boat. Back in the 80's I was a boater in the Chicago River and on the Cal Sag Channel and I learned the hardway about drinking and Boating doesn't mix. But I learned my lesson and my next and last boat in my life might be the New Jet Shark, it's in testing and sea trials. Has anyone here ever heard of the Seabreacher that's a 2 seater and this one is going to be a 4 seater for between 2 and 3 hundred thousand dollars.

Remember, America has "Checkbook Captains". Anyone with the money can buy or rent a boat and take it out on the water.
And, even though it's illegal, many drink and pilot boats.
I have to wonder, though, why the people on the pad were thinking it was OK not to dive out of the way when the big boat kept coming at them.
