Yees!! We finally did it! This "Boat" Tour was waaay too much fun. Yes, I said Boat Tour, because as soon as this airplane hits the water it becomes a vessel. We have been looking forward to an opportunity to get on board this famous Amphibious Seaplane for a while, and here it is!! In case you don't know, Rico's next goal in life is to get his pilot's license, and flying the ICON A5 has been high on his list of dream aircraft. The most amazing thing about Light-Sport Aviation is that it only requires 20 hours of training to get your license, and the seaplane part? well, watch and see how ICON has got you covered. I can't even express how amazing the Demo flight was, you just have to see it!
Starting price for ICON A5 is $379,000+ and $404,000 fully loaded.
😜 Let me know what you guys think of this one in the comments
Huge Thank you to JEN CLAYMORE, ICON AIRCRAFT & EV YACHTING for setting this up.

The pilot/ sales rep seems to be so easy to get along with, she explains things in a manner to make one who isn’t too knowledgeable feel as though your inferior. She explains with a smile, some real life experience that’s relatable to a new and interested in flying. If I met a car salesperson like her, I would definitely enjoy my experience and purchase. Great video.

An AOA is a nearly essential safety instrument that has been a feature of much larger & $$$ aircraft (military, for example). It lets you visualize the angle of your wing as you fly. On my flight in the Icon, I learned that it is nearly impossible to get the plane into an AOA that would lead to an aerodynamic “stall”. There is a lot of info about this online.

As a certified mechanic 32 yrs and previous pilot this is so ideal of a all around aircraft. Is there going to be a turbocharged option in the works? Or a four place? You said carbon fiber on the plane, does your company then do the composite repairs if there are issues? The chute is another excellent idea for the peace of mind and safety. The range is great as well, the choice of color to be seen another well thought out idea.Hearing how well the company supports the customer is a plus. Good to see a company come together and offer what appears to be a good all around package.

Your video is great. My father was on the flight crew of a PBM-5 Mariner seaplane during WWII. His squadron was based in Florida and flew sub hunting missions along the east coast...from Trinidad to Maine. He said that you could see the Manta Rays and Flying Fish while on patrol. Later, as a civilian, he worked on everything from the C-124s to the massive C-5A Galaxy cargo planes at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware. He passed many years ago, but I'm sure he would have enjoyed your video.

Awesome, flying out of FXE and then OPF reminded me of my childhood "1969" (I got my Private Pilots Lic @ 16, flying out of then Hanger One in OPF. Flew in and out of the Bahamas and the Keys. Loved it all. This would be better than a Boat as you could fly coast to coast to easy. This was great, would love to see more of this kinda vlogs. Great job Rico and Victoria and hats off to Jen (btw my instructor pilot was a woman).

If my math is correct, that fuel burn is about 22-25mpg depending on wind, the same as my current commuter car (2009 Ford Escape). If this were a little cheaper, I'd be half tempted to commute to work with it (I work at reasonably calm airport). There's a small airport near my house where people have houses on the airport itself. That would be just fantastic to own a house on an airport and commute to my job at an airport.

It’s a lovely idea. But it’s not anywhere as simple as it sounds. First off, LSAs can only fly in daylight hours when operated by a Sport Pilot (Private pilots can fly at night provided the aircraft is equipped for night flight). Second, you are limited to VFR conditions. Third, almost no one gets their certificate (sport or PPL) in the minimum humber of hours. The Rotax engine is expensive to service (as is everything on any airplane) and you can’t do any but the most basic work on it yourself.
The Icon is very controversial in the general aviation world because their marketing tends to gloss over what it really means to be a pilot. There are a lot of rules and even more with seaplanes. For example, the state of Colorado bans all seaplanes from its lakes and rivers.
I’m not trying to be a buzz-killer, but becoming a pilot isn’t easy. Owning an airplane isn’t easy. Being a *good* pilot is even harder. I highly recommend it. Few things are as much fun as landing an airplane. And few things are as dangerous if you take shortcuts or ignore the rules and take chances.

@@bunkie2100 Obviously this is more of a fantasy than a reality. But for somebody like me, the biggest hurdle is buying one. Maintenance is a non issue, I'm an aircraft mechanic by profession and all I need to do is study and test for my A&P.
I've long thought about getting my pilots license, which is something I may very well do regardless within the next 5 years or so. Even if I were to buy an Icon to commute to work, it would be more for fun than anything, once every week or so at the most.
The reality of course is that I would rather spend $300K+ on more useful things, the A5 is simply way too far out of my budget when you take into account total cost of ownership.

We serviced the beautiful Martin P-5M seaplanes which I never tired of watching.

This little airplane looks like WAAAAY too much fun-and it was fun watching you two having fun getting this "tour"!! It looks well designed, very safe, and 4 gal/hr is unbelievably efficient!
