Don't mean to pry into ur personal life Andrew, but u mentioned ur always up all night peeing. That concerned me & as a nurse I'd like to tell u that this could be a sign of prostate issues & most typically BPH. If u haven't spoken to a Dr yet, plz for ur health get this checked out! It could potentially even be more serious medical conditions, but alot of men ignore this sign & think it's just that u drink too much liquid & that's a common misconception! Just wanted to give u some honest advice.❤💞❤️
Every time! I didn’t know chalemet had it in him.. he’s not a big guy but that one scene made Paul seem like he was the most intimidating largest man there
and seeing Channi angry face ruins it. She is so stubborn to believe anything. At first, she think Jessica will die, but she didn't, next Paul drank the water of life and seemingly needed her to wake him up, and she still refuses to believe.
Alia's character was probably the best change from the book. Her plotting with Lady Jessica in the womb made Lady Jessica's character extremely terrifying. Rebecca Ferguson is the Lady Jessica I imagined from the books. Hell of an acting performance.
Yeah, that change alone makes Tarantino's statement about calling these films a "remake" is insane. That one thing has put a lot of what he says into question. Is he stupid? Or willingly being ignorant?
There are actually eight Skarsgard children but the big three are bill who played Pennywise, Alexander who played Tarzan and Gustav who played floki in Vikings
I can't help but think of True Blood anytime I see Alexander cause I'm pretty sure that was my first introduction to him. So every time I see him in just regular guy roles I always giggle cause I picture Eric!! lol
Was she? I don't remember this being mentioned in Dune but it's been a while since I reread it so not sure. I do recall in Chapterhouse Dune that they portray in detail that potential Bene Gesserit girls are given to surrogate parents as babies then reclaimed when they reach like 6 - 7yrs old.
@@joeldelica8706 Well yeah she was trained by the BG. All potentials like her are who then go on to become acolytes if they pass the first stages. BH & KA’s books’ are irrelevant to me.
@@joeldelica8706 I believe Frank endorsed it. I actually had a copy but lost it which pisses me off because it’s out of print. It’s a fascinating read and am hoping that Prophecy uses it more as a reference than BH & KA’s books. What do you think of it?
Devastating ending. He triumphs but loses himself in the process, becoming exactly what he didn't want to become, and starts a galactic bloodbath in the name of vengeance for his father. He swore to Chani and the fremen that he only wanted to fight beside them, now they're his foot soldiers, his worshipers, instead of his friends or comrades.
the books make it clear that the fremen are also using him. they wanted the jihad and would have slaughtered him and his mother if he didn't go through with it
Not exactly became what he didn't want to become... completely. He'd only gone half way. His second son will complete the Way. The path to Kralizec. Paul was terrified of Kralizec.
I don't feel Zendaya's acting. Her character annoys me than anything. Refusing to believe anything despite miracles happening in front of her multiple times.
@@IamNinjaOfNinja The whole point is that they aren't actually miracles. The whole Fremen religion was written by the BG, and Paul and Jessica are just carrying it out. In the books, Chani does believe in Paul, but I think it was changed in the movies to help people understand that Paul is not The Good Guy, and there is reason to be wary of him and the path he is leading them down.
@@IamNinjaOfNinja _ _I don't feel Zendaya's acting. Her character annoys me than anything._ I you are wrong about her acting and her character because you don't understand the film. You want what is essentially a naïve reading of a cerebral text. Chani is *not* a fantasy girlfriend whose role is to stroke the ego of the hero.
And the fact that they nuked the shield wall so the sandworms were able to come in from a direction they never expected and the sarduakar had no idea how to fight sandworms.
I remember in the theaters during the final scene when he yelled "SILENCE" To the head Bene Gesserit was SO amazingly powerful and chilling. The sound design of the Voice and the whole movie is amazing along with every other aspect!!
A terrifying detail: a small contingent of Sardukar wiped out the Atreides army (with help) but an ARMY of Sardukar got absolutely mopped by Fremen. Let that sink in
As far as I know the Emperor wanted to destroy the Atreides because they were exceptional fighters almost as good as his elite army, the Sardukar, due to being trained by fantastic fighters like Duncan Idaho and Gurnee Hallock. But the Fremen are as good a fighter as the Sardukar, if not better.
Chani was so drastically changed from the books, it will be interesting to see how they bring her back to Paul, which completely necessary. I’m guessing Denis will be able to do it well.
my money is on the "Tears from the desert spring" line of the prophecy actually being about Chani bringing Paul back from the rampant death of his war on the Great Houses.
After Chani storms out Paul looks to turn back but then looks back towards where Chani left, signifying he probably had a vision about how they'd reunite.
1:20:29 Omg. "Lead them to paradise", chills everytime. And Stilgars reaction, with his eyes closed, hearing words he's dreamed of hearing his whole life. Too good.
The epic battle wasn't shown as much, because that's not what the story is about. And Paul is NOT a hero. He's also not a villain, but he is 1000% not the hero. Frank Herbert makes that very clear in Dune Messiah.
I still say Dune Messiah was written cause Frank was tired of people missing the point in Dune lol Feels like he went, here, let me spell it out for you!
This book/film presents an impossible situation. By the time Paul's power is steong enough he is already far enough along a path that he cannot forsee any positive future. Really the villians are the Harkonens, Bene Gezerit, and Jessica.
Paul and Feyd's fight was so crazy in the theater. This is like the first movie I actually appreciated sitting in a theater for since like the pandemic (maybe the first Dune actually lmao).
I said the exact same thing lol, excluding Across The Spiderverse for me personally Dune part 2 was the first time I felt genuinely appalled watching a film in theaters since Dune part one
@@monojuice can you please explain your use of appalled in that comment? My understanding doesn't fit the context so I want to be sure of your meaning.
In the Dune book, the revelation that Paul and Jessica are part Harkonnen came much earlier in the story. Paul knew if before he took The Water of Life. But I like the way the director decided to leave this for later in this movie adaptation.
at the last shot with Chani, she was holding back tears. As a Fremen, she was taught never to cry, for she needs to save all the water possible on Arrakis. she wanted to cry and sob at the end, but she forced herself to keep the tears in
the acting was more like angry Channi than sad Channi. And it honestly annoys me, being angry at all the coincidence/miracles when she is heavily against the idea. She believed Jessica would have died by the poison and etc but when it didn't, she wasn't apologetic at all and still being stubborn
@@IamNinjaOfNinjaDune as a text is against the idea of miracles explicitly positioning them as the result of generation spanning conspiracies. It is quite a cynical book and while Chani as a character somewhat suffers, I believe that her position as audience surrogate for understanding this cynicism served the film well and was the smartest way to convey these ideas. Overall I felt the film did a great job of portraying Dune's central conflict-Paul is a man who wants to be decent but lets himself down. It's a rich novel which allows many interpretations. What would you have changed about Chani in the film?
@@IamNinjaOfNinja _the acting was more like angry Channi than sad Channi. And it honestly annoys me, being angry at all the coincidence/miracle_ You don't understand the book or film, at all. I know you probably think you do, but you don't.
@@andrewokeefe3315 _Dune as a text is against the idea of miracles explicitly_ The very fact that they don't get and don't want to accept this, is proof of why the character Chani as portrayed in the film is needed. You can say the original book did not need this...but you'd be wrong, since Herbert spent the next several books - deconstructing the vapid hero narrative that some fans of the book took and ran with. The film - can't and doesn't - wait for 3 sequels to finally impart the original meaning of Herbert's narrative.
@summertyme5748 Channi and friends are confident Jessica will die by the poison - proven false Paul will never survive in the dessert- false Paul ride the largest worm and everyone else started to worship , Channi swayed a bit Paul gets recognized and have a name, both of them want to be equal to each other, then later Channi say Paul will always be and outsider. Channi never believes Paul's vision but as weird dreams despite everything become true. Channi thought Paul died by the poison and still doesn't believe despite her tears saved him, even though we know this is a coincidence. I could point out so much more, I'm pretty sure book Channi is more supportive of Paul than being this angry RBF Channi.
One of my favorite details is that before the fight Paul combines the ritual of Duncan and that of Jamis - shows that Jamis had a profound effect on him through the visions even if they only interacted for minutes in real life.
I took it as a broader symbol as the Duncan salute was an Atreides tradition while the Jamis saying was a Fremen tradition. It showed that Paul had integrated his Atreides identity with his Fremen identity.
A lot of people dont like the fight between "Thanos" and "Drax" but I think it is brilliant because it shows how superior Gurney is in fighting compared to Rabban.
Some book fans don't even remember that in the Book there is no fight, because you are told Rabban is dead. Even after the book makes a big deal of Gurney seeking revenge. In the book it is what - Hitchcock would call, the loaded gun that is never fired. Yes, it's a mistake in the writing of the book as the ending was rushed so Gurney needed to be with Paul as Rabban was killed, and Herbert could not find space in the narrative for the show down he built up to.
It’s not that the water of life is lethal to men because they just can’t cope with the pain. The water of life gives women (XX) the memories of their maternal lineage all the pain and memories of centuries before and after. The Kwisatz Haderach attains both sides of their ancestral memories through their X and Y chromosomes. All the war and suffering inflicted by and endured by men and women alike.
I don't think it has anything to do with chromosomes. Any Bene Geserit COULD access male ancestral memories if they tried, but the entire order is self-conditioned to fear the idea, as a precaution against abomination. They willingly limit themselves to female ancestral memories, because those are the "safe" ones (consisting of 100% former BG who are in on the "plan", while 100% of the ancestral memories are a complete mess of random dudes from different cultures and values only used for their genes). The set-up for a Kwisatz Haderach is to prepare for a being who will be so powerful, biologically and mentally, AND have the millennia long chain of BG sisters in their head to prevent abomination when they do access the paternal memories.... unfortunately for the BG, this one didn't come to power under their training and observation, so OOPSIE.
@@AdeptCharon you think wrong it is specifically because they are female and not male "When a Truthsayer’s gifted by the drug, she can look many places in her memory-in her body’s memory. We look down so many avenues of the past . . . but only feminine avenues.” Her voice took on a note of sadness. “Yet, there’s a place where no Truthsayer can see. We are repelled by it, terrorized. It is said a man will come one day and find iin the gift of the drug his inward eye. He will look where we cannot-into both feminine and masculine pasts.”
@houseofaction I know this quote and I disagree that it disproves the interpretation. It's actually one of many quotes (it gets brought up in more than the first chapter) that make me think it works as I described above.
The Voice is more for simple actions like “give me the knife”. It doesn’t really work for more complex things. Also, if you overuse it you risk gaining many enemies. The Bene Gesserit are about subtle manipulations. The Voice is by no means subtle.
Not true. Reread the confrontation between Jessica and Thufir Hawat. She says straight up that she could have made the Duke her plaything and her creature. But that's the problem, when the power is being used too much it'll eventually draw attention to it. Thus the only long term solution is not to use it.
1:06, Since Paul can control his visions now, he basically looked a few minutes into the future to see what he would say to each person. Then he spoke back the words of his vision in real time.
I love how this movie demonstrates… the messiah…. Paul Atredeidis is king David. He is Hitler. He is Darth Vader. Aniken Skywalker, he is Michael Corleone… he is an unstoppable force, a lesson to be learned…
I loved how the final battle was so short actually, it shows how powerful Paul is and how he is so confident in his visions now, he chose all the avenues where he would succeed the fastest with the less amount of casualties, he didn’t even engage with the Sardukar himself as is so beneath him now
I agree! Was there opening night with my girl. Both of these movies gave me that life changing feeling. similar to how Avatar made me feel but even more so. They are definitely game changing for the industry as a whole.
the Barron didn't know Jessica was his daughter, and if you remember she was supposed to have a girl, that girl was meant to be married to feyd rautha, their kid was going to be the planned Kwistatz haderach.
Holy War (Muad'Dib's Jihad) ended after twelve years of bloodshed. According to Muad'Dib himself and his conservative estimates, his legions caused 61 billion casualties, the sterilization of ninety planets, the demoralization of five hundred additional worlds, and the eradication of forty different religions along with their followers. Ten thousand worlds were subsumed into his new Empire, as lauded by his High Priest, Korba.
Wanting to team up with the Harkonnen…is not at all what is going on. He said they would have to “be Harkonnen” as in be ruthless/brutal. They specifically show them slaughtering the Harkonnen and burning their bodies the same way the Harkonnen were burning the Atreides at the start. Paul absolutely does want the power, he struggles with that desire but the entire movie arc is ultimately driven by wanting revenge against the Harkonnen and the emperor.
It's interesting how so many people get swept up in Paul's speech, instead of being uncomfortable. The author was pretty much warning us not to fall for charismatic leaders, where we view them as something else.
Because it's what people want. Like warning people about the dangers of alcohol. No point. People want to follow those who are strong and determined. Doesn't really matter where to or why.
I feel like most viewers (like myself) realize their enthusiasm was misplaced by the end scene, when Paul basically initiates and marks the beginning of a holy war.
That's kind of the point of the novel, yes. Paul Atreides isn't a good guy. He manipulates the Fremen into becoming fundamentalist zealots, with the help of the religious imagery instilled in them by the Bene Gesserit, for the purpose of getting revenge and, essentially, taking over the galaxy. It's also the point of this movie, but it kind of stumbles at the finish line, because we're never left feeling as betrayed as Chani feels. Villeneuve fell into the same trap that Lynch did, and made Paul too likeable to the audience.
Direct parallels.. to certain politicians and their cult, I mean voters & supporters. Shows just how easy it is for people to be swept up when they’re emotionally invested and their world view is compatible with what is being propagandized.
1:04:08 1:04:09 No, the Baron didn't know that Jessica was his daughter. The father of the children is often not told what's going to happen to the child
43:09, Dr. Yueh is dead. The soldier that Feyd is fighting in the arena is Lt. Lanvill. He was one of the Atreides officers shown in the first movie. He is played by the movie fight coordinator Roger Yuan
One of my favorite moments is the pregnant pause after Paul defeats Feyd and confronts the Emperor. The non-verbal performances by Timothee Chalomet, Florence Pugh, Zendaya, and Christopher Walken are all supperb.
I like the scene where they all bow to Maud Dib - except for the 3 ladies, Jessica, Chani and Irulan, who instead realize that the real fight begins now.
I had to watch this in theaters two nights in a row (the second night being IMAX)! It was so incredible!! That shot of the worms coming out of the sandstorm near the end literally shook the entire room!!! Happy you were finally able to experience this, Tara!
if you wonder why paul changes so much, one part of it is with all the memories he now has he has lived through his mother giving birth to him from her point of view he also has all his fathers memories . that if nothing else would put the zap on your head ;)
The original Dune is one of the greatest and most influential sci-fi novels of all time, and this movie really captures that magnificence. Hell, even without that, this is likely still going to be remembered as one of the greatest sci-fi epic movies ever made.
@wackyvorlon sadly, I'm afraid neither of their names was used even once. I've triple checked. The emperor used the word "daughter" once. We wait 20 more years.
I can't get over the fact that Austin Butler is actually wearing a bald cap since he couldn't shave his head due to working on another movie at the time. The makeup department did a fantastic job for this film.
Some people missed that Channi didn't leave because she was heartbroken for love, she hated how Paul in the end, used her people for his own personal war, it wasn't just for their freedom.
Well it didn't happen in the books and it was probably to worst page to screen adaptation for a character, but yeah sure mad mid chick goes off I guess
@@patmcintyre-gray3925 Her character in the book is part of the problem why readers didn't get the horror of following blindly a leader just for personality, enters Dune Messiah to fix that. What Denis did was use her as a warning, fixing Dune book core's problem, Paul is no heroe, he is just the new oppressor.
One of my favorite effects of all time is how they show the explosion contained within the shield until it finally destroys the generator, then it explodes outward. So cool 😎
Paul was on board with converting the Fremen to their cause, if you recall, when Jessica brings up that Leto was not one for vengeance. Over time, he started resisting, but it wasn't enough...
Nothing will hold Paul back, especially Chani. He's been humble the entire time. He sees all possible futures, so every decision he makes is calculated to be certain he doesn't lose and that his loved ones survive. They may not like his choices, but they are the only ones that do not end in the destruction of the Fremen and House Atreides.
This movie has a lot of nay sayers. But I'm practically a scholar of the books and the prequels, and I love both of these movies. What changes were made, make perfect sense to me and I think there is a sincere respect shown for the books and the world that Herbert created. What drives me insane, is that people who say this movie is "cliché" or "derivative" don't seem to understand that Dune did it all first. All the movies people claim to like more, got their inspiration from Herbert.
@@chrisconway4764 Oh there are "It needs to be exactly what in the BOOK people" the same thing happened with the First Lord of the Rings trilogy there always haters out there.
@@chrisconway4764 It has become almost "cool" among a lot of the Star Wars (and a few other IP's) stans to roll their eyes at Dune. They talk smack about Denis Villeneuve, about the cast and the budget; but especially about the books and Herbert. It's the same kind of clickbait counter-culture bullshit as people who say: "I've never watched a single episode of Game of Thrones" like a badge.
@@fedos Yeah wow. Lol. It's not even close. I love the Lynch version for many reasons, but this version is the one I've been waiting for my whole life😂
A MASTERPIECE in every way possible. The directing, writing, acting, set design, cinematography, soundtrack, EVERYTHING IS FLAWLESS! And Lady Margot Fenring says the best joke in the movie. Who WOULD’NT be sexually vulnerable at the mere sight of Léa Seydoux?!?!
I have watched this movie over 20 times and genuinely cannot get enough of it. Every watch you notice small little details you didnt previously. Such a rich, detailed world. Love it
Chani and Paul's theme is my favorite thing Hans Zimmer has ever done. It's so beautiful yet haunting, does a fantastic job capturing the themes of their relationship and the story as a whole.
If I remembevr the books correctly, the way groups of Fremen got on the worms was one rider would capture and hook onto a worm, then circle it back and coax the worm do a slow pass and to start a slow rolling motion that would allow others to hook and be lifted off the dessert floor onto the worm in an efficient way.
I loveeeee this movie so much, i saw it 3 times in theaters. The only thing I wish they showed more in the movie is dangerous Paul truly is in terms of his fighting. He is the best fighter in the galaxy.
My theory is that the increased noise and vibrations of battle is what drew more and bigger worms. Since Paul was at the center of that fighting the worm's were drawn to him. Hence it looked like THE PROPHECY.
Ill say this probably on deaf ears but there is an interview where the baron actor does the barons voice on a drop of a dime, Gave me chills So talented.
pauls naming scene is actually Paul manipulating them. paul knew what the mouse was named and knew it meant the one who points the way. he intentionally chose that name knowing it would manipulate the people like stilgar and eventually lead to him gaining power
@1:24:45 - Agreed. I don't need it to be 30 mins longer but 5-10 minutes in areas that felt very rushed, or choppy in location & time jumps, would make this an essentially perfect move for me. There are other bits for people who don't know the books that needed at least a few extra lines as my partner didn't understand the significance of the initial betrayal because it wasn't clear that they couldn't be attacked. She didn't understand the issues with the shields and lasguns/lasers (she also didn't get it when they basically dropped the 'move slow to get through the shields' things when it sometimes was essentially dropped during battle scenes). Them blowing up the shield walls, removing the protection from the worms, was another notable plot point that I don't recall being included at all. I'm sure these things were somewhere but mostly/entirely got dropped in editing.
Oh god, Erin and Andrew, you missed the core lesson Frank Herbert expressed in this book-and that Denis masterfully translated to film with nuance and subtly! BE WARY OF YOUR SAVIOURS, THEY ONLY BRING RUIN. The most common criticism waged against the book is that this is a ‘white saviour’ story, but it’s the complete opposite. It’s a cautionary tale. Paul brings disaster and death to humanity when he chooses vengeance for his father and his family instead of letting go of this and embracing his new identity as a true Fremen. He does not save the Fremem, he dooms them with his selfish choice.
the books make it clear that whether he led them in a jihad or not, the jihad would have occured. had he decided to just unite them and live as a fremen they would have ended up waging a jihad no matter what
Honestly the biggest revelation, for me, I received from the book and Villeneuve’s adaptation was that fact that in reality, Dune was/is a horror story, with tragic fates for nearly all of it’s characters. Also, the true main character of Frank Herbert’s Dune series, is indeed Humanity itself; it is the human horror story, its condition, it’s reoccurring nature, and it ever evolving-- and at times, terrifying potential, which stretches across the stars, and embraces the possibilities of life itself, as it attempts to escape from stagnation and eventual self-annihilation. However, in order for this human story to be fully realized, which it’s characters are used to embody the depth and complexity and complicated essence of the Human Experience, the narrative must shape many of the main characters, and their factions, on ill-fated paths, which seem enviable --that conveys the message of a warning: whenever radical belief, and fear are given their full measure, they can shape the future, shake the very foundations of existence, and perpetuate circumstances, which may bound humanity indefinitely, or may lead to it’s eventual escape from existential extermination, it’s all in how that radical belief and fear are used-- and whom indeed uses them.
Tara and Andrew, Let's Gooooo. I was just in the mood to rewatch Dune 2 so why not see a reaction instead. Always a good time seeing Andrew and his informative pov. Unfortunate about the Covid miss for Tara, as seeing it in the theater was cool, but, the amazingness still stands up no matter how you see it. Best Movie of the Year as far as I'm concerned. Denis did it right. Everything just hits, acting, action, music, editing, the innovations they did, and just adapting High Sci Fi, such a complicated world and book into a cohesive and digestible form is Amazing. I'm like.. .make a roller coaster that makes you think you are riding the worm, it'd be amazing. Ooh, Apocalypse now reference, that makes so much sense, didn't think of that before. Anyways, the journey is incredible and I'm glad to watch two peeps who feel it fully. Next sequel should be amazing since it sounds like Denis literally storyboarded these when he was a kid basically. Beyond that tho.. well.. it will be very challenging given.. um everything, lol. Thank you both for your reactions. It's always a thing to put yourself out there and be yourselves with how the internet is.
29:45 That vision, much like the others, was a metaphor. The young, naive kid, Paul Atreides, had to die in order for the Mahdi, the Fremen saviour, to rise. It didn’t literally mean him dying. Just like the vision of Jamie telling him "I will teach you the ways of the desert". His death did teach Paul that the desert is a brutal, unforgiving place if you’re not prepared for it.
I was still skeptical about Chalamet as Muad'Dib right up until he screams "No one in this room can challenge me!" and talked about everyone's mothers warning them about him. Then I got it. It's not possible to deliver something like that right if you don't have it, no matter what level of coaching you get. He's got it.
I love Villeneuve's cinematography and his approach to the duneverse. I also loved the Sy-Fy Channel miniseries that, in my opinion, were the most faithful adaptations.
43:02 And THAT is how you introduce a villain!! FYI: Austin Butler spent 4 months in Budapest, Hungary, training with a former US Navy SEAL, in order to prepare for the role.
The sandworms are forced to the surface when they expose their soft flesh with the hooks. They stay on the surface and roll to put the "wounds" on top, away from the sand. When they load up as a group, one gets on and steers it to a dune so the rest can jump on.
I think I’m one of few people that wasn’t fawning over Austin’s performance. IMO it was *fine* but not *amazing*. There were people sayjng he was Heath Joker level villain which IMO was waayyy overselling it.
Man this film is so good. Going to hopefully win every award at the Oscars. The shot where Chani is running after destroying their ship and it falling down behind her is all practical. It's so awesome
Andrew, Bill and Alexander aren't the only known Skarsgard kids. Gustaf is known for his role as Floki in the show VIKINGS and he was recently in OPPENHEIMER.
Goddamnit UA-cam, where’s my freaking notification ffs!?🤯 I’m so damn late but I’m super stoked for this one my dudes! Top 10 favorite movie(s)of all time😘👌 (imo 1&2 are basically just one long ass movie 😅) LFG😉
@6:02 ish Btw, idk if it was just me but that shit legitimately had me bobbing and weaving when that damn body comes flying right at your freaking face! 😂 I don’t even get startled easily but for whatever reason it gave me like a mini jumpscare y’all!🤦♀️😅
The whole thing with Paul is that the kwizats haderach was the bene gesserit’s breeding program come to fruition. A male reverend mother able to see down the avenues of both masculine and feminine memories. The problem was he was born a generation early. Jessica was commanded by the sisterhood to only birth daughters so that one could be married to the Harkonnen heir. And their child would’ve been the KH. But Jessica disobeying the sisterhood threw a wrench in the plans since the BG wanted to make sure the KH was under their control
So many reaction videos practically ignore the amazing performance of Charlotte Rampling as the Reverend Mother Gaius Helen Mohiam. She's been in more than 100 films, usually "Art House" types. But she's absolutely a brilliant actor. You might remember her from Season 8 of "Dexter." Just take 30 seconds of your time and google her.
I just wish they explained how the fremen have back door deals with the spacing guild and how that’s a big deal to Paul’s war and controlling all logistics due to having the spice flow and how the spacing guild kept the south obscured for their bonus spice
I love the channel and you guys and I think you do an amazing Job as Reactors. But I have to say (and this actually applies to most Dune reactions I’ve watched), I honestly don’t understand how people were super happy and excited with Paul’s “Transformation”, with most Reactors not even noticing the MANY MANY signs the director used to convey Frank Herbert’s personal view of Paul as definitely not a Hero and his Journey as a tragedy, not an Epic Victory. It’s all right there on the Screen, The Movie’s menacing Score once Paul awakes from the Spice agony, the change in the Performance from a idealistic young man to a Dark and Ominous presence, Chani’s reaction to him and even the way he is Shot and Lit after he awakens, with much less light, dark shadows and a Distance from us (the audience), even we looose access to the inner life of the character. I just find it funny because it’s basically history repeating itself, with Frank feeling that most people did not understand what Paul represented when he released the First book and now the same thing happening with The Movies, I believe this is mostly due to we been so used to the classic Hero’s Journey that this subversion does not register for many people, but I don’t know. For me at Least, when you listen to someone saying that they will “Lead you to Paradise” Through War and Violence….Maybe a Red Flag should appear in your mind. And for my fellow book fans: Yes I’m fully aware of the long term implications and overall Story, my comment is specifically about how this Specific Movie was perceived by non book readers or People who maybe weren’t too familiar with Frank Herbert’s Work and Worldview which greatly informed the themes of Dune. But no hate guys, really! I still enjoyed watching the reaction ❤
The point made about "fear" after the reunion with Gurney is that Paul and the Fremen INSPIRE fear. Fear is their main weapon as other Fremen resources are limited.
I enjoyed watching you guys reactions. No bene gesserit knows their parents. So there was not way Jessie would have known. I love how the director baited viewers into cheering for Paul. At the end of the day Paul is still part of colonization. He even sided with the Empire at the end of the movie. He is from royalty. He was taught by his father how to be a leader. He was trained by his mother on how to manipulate people, especially people who were not born into his rank. He would have been taught the Freemen's language, customs and beliefs. We were told millions of people will die bacause to his decisions . Yet many people still cheered him on because we were told he is the chosen one. There were clues though the director put in. Chani believe their messiah should be from her own people, not an outsider. She represented the moral compass in this movie. And the author Frank Herbert wrote the book as a cautionary story about the dangers of following charismatic figures.

You offend real soldiers......Just remember that
"Lead them to paradise" is one bone chilling call to war.
it's spoken so softly and quietly but we all know how world-changing the meaning is
And if you’ve read messiah you know how that ends
It's such an oddly beautiful way to basically say send them to heaven
Paul's speech gives me full body chills every time. What a performance.

What a grift! A complete 180 from Usul. 🖕🏽
Every time! I didn’t know chalemet had it in him.. he’s not a big guy but that one scene made Paul seem like he was the most intimidating largest man there
I didn't trust him as Paul either until I watched The King.
and seeing Channi angry face ruins it.
She was very amazing
Absolutely. A toddler talking in full sentences? That's creepy, but also looks a little goofy in practise. A talking foetus? Oh no.
Na I think the book version was way better way better.
Honestly, these two movies have been extremely good at matching what I imagined when I read the book. Absolutely fantastic performances from everyone.
Glad to see Gustav acknowledged in comments.
I can't help but think of True Blood anytime I see Alexander cause I'm pretty sure that was my first introduction to him. So every time I see him in just regular guy roles I always giggle cause I picture Eric!! lol

Baron didn't know about Jessica. She thought she was an orphan. She was raised by the Bebe Geserit her entire life

Keep following his story, its not about revenge. Its bigger than his father, or the emperor, or himself even ... :)
the books make it clear that the fremen are also using him. they wanted the jihad and would have slaughtered him and his mother if he didn't go through with it
Not exactly became what he didn't want to become... completely. He'd only gone half way. His second son will complete the Way. The path to Kralizec. Paul was terrified of Kralizec.
All of the acting was stellar but it was so great to see Austin Butler get out from under the Elvis shadow and to me he does it very well here.
@@IamNinjaOfNinja _
_I don't feel Zendaya's acting. Her character annoys me than anything._
I you are wrong about her acting and her character because you don't understand the film.
You want what is essentially a naïve reading of a cerebral text.
Chani is *not* a fantasy girlfriend whose role is to stroke the ego of the hero.
Even in the books the final battle is not a battle, it is meant to be nothing. That is how overpowering the Fremen forces are supposed to be.
Let that sink in
Because they were taught the weirding way.
Mainly because the Fremen live hard lives and are saturated with spice. They are pretty souped up compared to other people in the Imperium.
Ambushes can do that.
the fremen number 10 million the saudukar are maybe a million strong at most
As far as I know the Emperor wanted to destroy the Atreides because they were exceptional fighters almost as good as his elite army, the Sardukar, due to being trained by fantastic fighters like Duncan Idaho and Gurnee Hallock.
Too good.
I’ve seen this film 4 times and I love it more each time. SO. DAMN. GOOD.

Paul and Feyd's fight was so crazy in the theater. This is like the first movie I actually appreciated sitting in a theater for since like the pandemic (maybe the first Dune actually lmao).
That fight was so well choreographed and edited, too. Such a great choice to have no music under it.

@@JeshuaSquirrel blown away
And it honestly annoys me, being angry at all the coincidence/miracle_
You don't understand the book or film, at all. I know you probably think you do, but you don't.
@@andrewokeefe3315 _Dune as a text is against the idea of miracles explicitly_
The very fact that they don't get and don't want to accept this, is proof of why the character Chani as portrayed in the film is needed.
@summertyme5748
Channi and friends are confident Jessica will die by the poison - proven false
Paul will never survive in the dessert- false
Paul ride the largest worm and everyone else started to worship , Channi swayed a bit
Paul gets recognized and have a name, both of them want to be equal to each other, then later Channi say Paul will always be and outsider.
Feyd is a psychotic monster but he gives respect where it's due. 'You fought well Atreides' was genuine both times.
A lot of people dont like the fight between "Thanos" and "Drax" but I think it is brilliant because it shows how superior Gurney is in fighting compared to Rabban.
As well as the Fremen who had Raban if it weren't for one of the Harkonnen forces shooting her.
Exactly, they always forget that Rabban got his ass handed to him by Feyd just as quickly XD He's just a big dude, that's all
I thought it was perfect. It shows that Rabban was always all talk. He exercised power through bullying.
Explains why he can become as cruel as the Baron
@ wow someone woke up on the wrong side of Arrakis.
@@AdeptCharon you think wrong it is specifically because they are female and not male
"When a Truthsayer’s gifted by the drug, she can look many places in her memory-in her body’s memory.
Thus the only long term solution is not to use it.

the Barron didn't know Jessica was his daughter, and if you remember she was supposed to have a girl, that girl was meant to be married to feyd rautha, their kid was going to be the planned Kwistatz haderach.
Also in the book, they had to drug the baron to get him to conceive a child because he was only into little boys

One detail I like is how they cover Princess Irulan more with each scene showing how she is trapped into the fate of being Paul’s bride.

And helps save Humanity for forever. A small price to pay.

Blown away by how much Tara remembers from Dune 1. No Dory memory today 😂😂
The books are a brilliant read , Absolutely brilliant 🙂
DUNE 2 à MASTERPIECE ☆☆☆☆☆
Emperor Shaddam's weapon of choice is move without a rhythm. It won't attract the worm.
The legacy of dune was already insane but this movie is chefs kiss. I can’t even explain how amazing this movie is to me.
Just when I needed something to watch with my breakfast
Same!
When they load up as a group, one gets on and steers it to a dune so the rest can jump on.
not just Alex and Bill Skarsgård, Gustaf is also an actor, Eija is an actor and Valter Skarsgård
Dune: Part Two (2024) is the best movie of 2024.
I think I’m one of few people that wasn’t fawning over Austin’s performance. IMO it was *fine* but not *amazing*. There were people sayjng he was Heath Joker level villain which IMO was waayyy overselling it.
Tara picking up on how Paul fulfilling "prophecy" would lead to mass death in his vision is on point! considering many viewers don't exactly get this
My favorite duo watching one of favorite movies, NICE! Thanks for keeping me company during my morning coffee, guys! Great reaction, as always 💗
43:56 - huh? Calling a worm in to an arena on a different planet? Are you even watching the same film?
Man this film is so good. Going to hopefully win every award at the Oscars. The shot where Chani is running after destroying their ship and it falling down behind her is all practical. It's so awesome
Andrew, Bill and Alexander aren't the only known Skarsgard kids. Gustaf is known for his role as Floki in the show VIKINGS and he was recently in OPPENHEIMER.
Goddamnit UA-cam, where’s my freaking notification ffs!?🤯
I’m so damn late but I’m super stoked for this one my dudes! Top 10 favorite movie(s)of all time😘👌
(imo 1&2 are basically just one long ass movie 😅)
LFG😉
@6:02 ish
Btw, idk if it was just me but that shit legitimately had me bobbing and weaving when that damn body comes flying right at your freaking face! 😂
I don’t even get startled easily but for whatever reason it gave me like a mini jumpscare y’all!🤦♀️😅
Having read the books in the 70s, actually seeing the mouse in Part 1 was extra special. Nice that they put it all together here.
Fun fact - the cinematographer will change for the 3rd film, not announced yet but I met the new guy
I like this duo!
nice reaction tara!
Absolute masterpiece. Saw this opening weekend in IMAX. One of the best theater experiences ever!
